A report by <keyword id="20478706" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="transunion-cibil-credit-market-indicator" source="keywords">TransUnion CIBIL Credit Market Indicator</keyword> says that it’s because financial institutions tightened the supply of credit. Growth in home loan originations remained stagnant on a year on year basis overall. The reason being a 4% fall in the origination of loans under ₹35 lakh in Q4 of FY24. Those between ₹35-75 lakh grew by 8%, even as those over ₹75 lakh grew at a healthy rate of 23%. Auto loans, credit card loans and consumer durable loans grew in single digits for the quarter. Loans for two-wheelers, loans against property and personal loans kept up with double digit growth, but much lower as compared to the same quarter last year. “The latest CMI indicates continued stability in the Indian consumer credit market, as credit institutions aligned and responded effectively to the market trends over the last year. (<keyword id="20132670" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ntc" source="keywords">NTC</keyword>) consumers in originations dropped to 14% in Q2FY24 as compared to 17% in the same quarter last year. The share of younger consumers in origination volume also went down by 1%, even as that of semi-urban and rural consumers went up 2%. “India’s evolving demography includes youth, women and consumers in the semi-urban and rural geographies who typically make up a larger share of first-time credit seekers. The decline in origination volumes for new-to-credit consumers is detrimental to the development of these consumer segments,” the report says. The delinquencies improved in almost all loan segments with the exception of personal loans and credit card loans where balance-level delinquencies went up by 10 basis points and 23 basis points respectively. “Lenders must continue to focus on strong underwriting practices and regular and nuanced monitoring of consumer behaviour to drive sustained credit growth and profitability,” said Kumar.

Consumption loans take a breather in July-September 2023 period, even as delinquencies rise

Most stocks in these businesses have given positive returns to investors — a few of them by over 50% in the last one year – and the outlook for these industries is bright too, according to analysts. The best performer of the pack remains ITC. And while it’s a conglomerate with interests across fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), hotels and more — its legacy business of cigarettes remains its mainstay. A market leader in cigarettes and its brands like Wills Navy Cut, Gold Flake and more contribute to 39% of sales, and 76% of EBIT or earnings before interest and taxes. This business is expected to remain the cash cow for the company going ahead as well – as its new launches in the premium category gain traction amid robust demand. Added to that, action from enforcement agencies by cracking down on smuggled foreign brands continues to enable volume recovery which in turn boosts the company’s revenue. In the fourth quarter, cigarette revenues grew 13.7%, year-on-year. “The cigarettes business continues to deliver double-digit volume growth and market share gains in the absence of competition from illicit trade, even as the recent tax hike is unlikely to dent sales,” said a research report by Bobcaps. It’s not just ITC that’s gaining from the robust demand for cigarettes. Godfrey Phillips – which sells Four Square and Marlboro brands – also gave stellar returns in the last one year. The company’s board has also increased the dividend to ₹44 per share in FY23 from ₹28 paid last year, giving a fillip to the shares. Other stocks in the sector – be it Hyderabad-based VST Industries that distributes cigarettes and tobacco products or even Kothari Products that sells Pan Parag and Pan Masala – have provided positive The Indian whisky market, valued at $14.9 billion in FY20, is projected to touch $22.4 billion by FY25 on the back of demographic trends, new customers and premiumisation, said a research report by Nuvama. “The market is set to drive value growth with strong premiumisation trends leading to up-trading within the category as well as an increasing preference for high-value products across price segments,” the research report said. “Events and marriages are back to pre-Covid levels and shall drive a spike in alcohol consumption. This could negate the urban slowdown,” the report said. However, three of the listed players — Radico Khaitan, United Breweries and United Spirits have been stressed by margin worries because of high input costs. Apart from steady growth in demand, stocks in the sin category are also gaining from a clutch of other favourable market factors, which bodes well for these businesses. “Liquor industry finally saw some green shoots in margins after tepid three quarters. We expect long-term growth momentum to sustain even as near-term stress on margins persists. Brewing gains: Alcohol as well as cigarette stocks on a high

Sensex down over 500 points; Power Grid Corp, NTPC, Coal India gain up to 5%

As many as 57% women borrowers had a credit score of prime and above compared to 51% of male borrowers in 2022, says a report by TransUnion CIBIL. A prime score refers to <keyword id="147901" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="credit-scores" source="Orion">credit scores</keyword> between 731 to 770, according to CIBIL. Between 2017 and 2022, the number of women borrowers grew at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15%, while this number is at 11% for men. CIBIL also says that <keyword id="8141316" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="credit-access" source="Orion">credit access</keyword> for women has grown from 7% in 2017 to 14% in 2022. By the end of 2022, the number of credit active women borrowers – with an active line of credit — stood at 63 million. “The marked evolution of women borrowers as active participants in India’s <keyword id="1349609" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="credit-market" source="Orion">credit market</keyword> bodes well for the government’s <keyword id="107911" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="financial-inclusion" source="Orion">financial inclusion</keyword> mandates that intend to improve access to financial opportunities for traditionally underserved segments such as women,” said Harshala Chandorkar, COO of TransUnion CIBIL. The number of women who keep an eye on their credit scores is also growing. In 2022, over 8.2 million women accessed their CIBIL score and report – growing 44% over one year. “The increase in the number of women monitoring their CIBIL Score and report reflects improved financial awareness and credit consciousness. It also demonstrates that women are cognizant that credit discipline matters, and are taking proactive measures to continually improve their credit profile,” says Sujata Ahlawat, senior vice president and head – DTC Interactive, TransUnion CIBIL. After checking their CIBIL Score, 45% of them improved their credit profile. And 28% of them improved their score by over 20 points. What are women borrowing for? As per CIBIL’s annual retail credit insights survey, consumption-led credit products like personal loans and consumer durable loans are gaining popularity among women. “As more women borrowers enter the workforce and become financially independent, they are seeking credit opportunities to fulfil their life goals and aspirations,” the report said. There has also been a spurt in activity among women entrepreneurs seeking business loans. Between 2017-22, the number of women seeking business loans has more than tripled — a reflection of the growth in women-led startups. The share of women in over-all business loan portfolio too increased from 20% in 2017 to 32% in 2022. There has been an increase in the home loan segment too with a 6% growth. TransUnion’s latest study on new-to-credit (NTC) borrowers shows that the highest proportion of women borrowers availed agricultural loans and consumer durable loans as their first credit facility in 2022. The share of women borrowers among first-time credit seekers has increased from 32% in 2017 to 34% in 2022. Beyond the cities The rise in loan-seeking behaviour in women is not an urban phenomenon either. <ul><li>Credit demand grew at 1.29 times YoY in the quarter ending September 2022. </li><li>MSME lending continues to be concentrated in the top ten states that have higher industrialization. </li><li><keyword id="6904501" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delinquency-rates" source="Orion">Delinquency rates</keyword> dropped YoY across private sector banks, public sector banks and NBFCs.</li></ul>With lenders being able to supply timely credit to resilient MSMEs, the sector is on an accelerated growth trajectory according to the TransUnion CIBIL-SIDBI MSME Pulse Report. The report also indicates benchmark credit growth in the micro segment owing to an improvement in lender confidence. The measures on formalization of MSMEs and adoption of digital platforms by lenders has enabled them to access granular data on enterprises and improved their confidence for lending, especially to the microsegment of MSMEs. “The progressive reforms introduced by the government for MSME sector resurgence have borne fruit as reflected in the vigorous business activity and improved credit uptake by enterprises across all the segments,” said Sivasubramanian Ramann, CMD of SIDBI. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Rise in credit demand and credit exposure" comment="subhead2" text="Rise in credit demand and credit exposure">Rise in credit demand and credit exposure</cmsannotation> Data from the report shows that credit demand – measured in terms of credit inquiry volumes – is correlated to the improvement in business activity. Bank type wide analysis of credit exposure shows that public sector banks hold ₹7.9 lakh crore, private banks hold ₹10.1 lakh crore, and non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) account for ₹3.1 lakh crore of share. There are about 77 lakh live MSME borrowers – and this number is growing at 11% YoY. The overall delinquency rate on MSME portfolio was 3% for September 2022 (FY23-Q2), down from 4.4% during the same period last year (FY22-Q2). This reduction is due to a drop in delinquency rates across micro, small and medium segments. These findings emphasize that improved credit flow to the MSME segment can help stabilize the sector and provide much needed financial support to fortify it further. Delinquency rates have dropped YoY across private sector banks, public sector banks and NBFCs. Private sector banks showed the highest drop in delinquency – from 2.8% in the quarter ending September 2021 to 1.5% during the same period in the year 2022. For PSBs, delinquency rates dropped from 5.3% to 3.9% and for NBFCs from 5.9% to 4.5% during the same period. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Growth in the micro segment of MSMEs" comment="subhead2" text="Growth in the micro segment of MSMEs">Growth in the micro segment of MSMEs</cmsannotation> MSME Pulse also studied the growth in the micro segment of MSMEs. In comparison, disbursement growth of 24% and credit balances growth of 10.6% was observed on the overall MSME portfolio. Very small ie. Micro1 and Micro2 segments showed YoY balance growth (growth that is sustainable in the long term) of 20%, 15% and 11%, respectively. Interestingly, more than 50% of new originations came through new-to-credit (NTC) borrowers in this segment – which emphasizes the importance of alternate data sources for effective underwriting. Even though the micro and small enterprise segments are dominant in the market, less than half of the micro units have access to formal credit, marking a significant opportunity for credit institutions to accelerate MSME lending. ITC finally starts rallying, but Twitter can't stop trolling it

<keyword id="605544" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mahmud-Jibril">Mahmud Jibril</keyword>, the former head of the Libyan rebel government that overthrew dictator Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, died on Sunday of the <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword>, his party said. Jibril, 68, died in Cairo where he had been hospitalised for two weeks, said Khaled al-Mrimi, secretary of the <keyword id="9011114" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="alliance-of-national-forces">Alliance of National Forces</keyword> party founded by Jibril in 2012. He had been admitted to the Ganzouri Specialised Hospital in Cairo on March 21 after suffering from cardiac arrest and three days later tested positive for coronavirus, hospital director Hisham Wagdy said. "He started... recovering the day before yesterday but then he began deteriorating again", Wagdy told AFP in Cairo, confirming that Jibril died at 2:00 pm. Jibril headed the rebel <keyword id="641894" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Transitional-Council">National Transitional Council</keyword> (NTC), the interim government during the NATO-backed rebellion that toppled and killed Gaddafi. He had been an economic advisor to the Gaddafi regime in its final years, before joining the revolution in 2011 and briefly serving as premier.Jibril resigned three days after Gaddafi was captured and killed when NTC fighters overran his hometown Sirte on October 20, 2011. In the early days of the Libyan uprising, Jibril made several trips abroad to rally European and US support for the rebels against Gaddafi. In 2012, after the veteran leader was ousted and killed, Jibril stood in the country's first ever democratic elections and his party won the vote but failed to clinch a majority in parliament which chose an independent candidate to become prime minister. Amid the chaos and violence that erupted in the following years, Jibril left Libya to live abroad. Libya, now divided between a UN-recognised government based in Tripoli and a rival administration in the country's east, announced its first death from coronavirus earlier this week. Health authorities said an 85-year-old woman was confirmed to have had COVID-19 on examination after her death, without giving further details.The UN-recognised Government of National Accord which controls the west of the country has officially recorded 10 cases. In some cases, GM alleges, fake businesses, charities, and even a fake hospice were used as fronts to move the money."For example," GM writes, "in February 2010, Marchionne, acting in the interest and as an agent of FCA Group, gave [former UAW official General] Holiefield a custom-made Terra Cielo Mare watch worth several thousand dollars in direct violation of the Taft-Hartley Act."From there, things got even more complex."As the bribery scheme grew in complexity and depth," the complaint says, union executives "Holiefield and Morgan, with FCA Group's knowledge, used false front businesses, including Monica Morgan Photography, Wilson's Diversified Products, and even a fictitious hospice organization, in an attempt to launder funds from the NTC and LTLOF."(NTC in the above quote refers to a joint training center financed by FCA and the UAW. LTLOF is the "Leave the Light on Foundation," a nonprofit controlled by UAW official Holiefield.)Marchionne personally approved FCA's financing of the now-deceased Holiefield's wedding in Venice in 2015, GM alleges in the suit. As part of that agreement, the union lifted a cap on "tier two" workers, allowing FCA to hire more of the cheaper, less-skilled workers, and gain a leg up on the competition, the lawsuit claims.Because of those alleged disadvantages, GM is demanding a jury trial and relief for "substantial damages," though the company did not specify an amount beyond "billions."That pluralized word could be key.Fresh off the heels of a 40-day strike that ate into third-quarter earnings and is expected to take an even bigger chunk out of this quarter's financials, GM will likely be looking to recoup as much as possible."There is reason to believe this amount is at least $6 billion and - under one scenario we would regard as extreme high-end - could potentially be $15 billion," Ryan Brinkman, an analyst at JPMorgan, told clients in a note Thursday.Based on the math of a $4 per hour disadvantage for every worker, JPMorgan estimates that GM was spending about $416 million per year more than FCA. While at NTC, Wamsley has spearheaded a program that connects communication equipment that was previously unable to communicate.</div></div></div>Microsoft just scored a tremendous win with the announcement that the United States Department of Defense will be moving all four million of its employees across all of its agencies to the Windows 10 operating system within a year.That 12-month timeline is unusually quick for any large <keyword id="6356323" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Enterprise">enterprise</keyword> - and especially for the United States government, where bringing in new technology can be painful and take years.The Department of Defense was apparently attracted by Windows 10's security features, and so hit the gas pedal, according to an official blog post.Microsoft says that this is going to be its biggest enterprise deal for Windows 10 so far. So far since the operating system came out in summer 2015, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-windows-10-is-on-10-of-pcs-in-the-world-2015-12">Microsoft has gotten over 200 million users on Windows 10</a> with a goal of getting to one billion within the next two years or so. Big deals like this are an important part of hitting that milestone. Back in 2013, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-windows-8-department-of-defense-2013-1">Microsoft and the Department of Defense signed a similar deal for Windows 8</a>, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-fan-says-windows-8-is-a-disaster-in-every-sense-of-the-word-2014-2">much-maligned predecessor to Windows 10</a>. But that deal only affected about 350,000 employees directly employed by the Department of Defense.This new Windows 10 arrangement accounts for all employees who work at sub-agencies of the Department - which means that it gets the additional benefit of having all its employees everywhere on the same version of Windows. This likely makes life much easier for the DoD's IT department, which has had to manage a mishmash of operating systems across agencies.As an added bonus for Microsoft, the Department of Defense has certified Microsoft's Surface line of tablets as having met the necessary security requirements, meaning that agencies are free to buy them for their employees. Plus, Microsoft's very cool "<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-surface-pro-4-windows-10-hello-2015-11">Windows Hello</a>" facial recognition sign-on tech is similarly certified as usable for Department employees.For Microsoft, this is a big deal in all senses of the phrase. Not only will it draw in a lot of cash for Microsoft's Windows business, which has been struggling to gain traction amid a shrinking overall PC industry, but it's a big marketing victory, too.
