Foreign investors have withdrawn nearly Rs 20,000 crore from Indian stock markets in just five trading days (November 4–8), continuing a trend of large-scale selling that began last month. Experts say investors are now moving their money to China, largely due to the high valuations presently prevailing in Indian markets. In early November, FPIs have offloaded as much as Rs 19,994 crore in Indian markets. The month prior, i.e., October, was one of the worst months in terms of foreign outflows, with FPIs making a net withdrawal of Rs 94,017 crore. Before this, Indian markets faced such a situation during the pandemic, when FPIs withdrew Rs 61,973 crore from equities in March 2020. <h2>Why Are Investors Leaving? </h2>According to Himanshu Srivastava of Morningstar Investment Research India, two main factors are driving this exodus. First is China's renewed appeal due to lower stock valuations and new economic stimulus measures. In a bid to nudge the domestic economy and bail state governments, China recently approved a 10-trillion yuan (US $1.4 trillion) package. Per reports, approximately 60% of this stimulus focuses on allowing local governments to refinance the mountain of debt on them. Srivastava explains foreign investors are also flocking to US dollar and Treasury yields, which have appreciated significantly in the recent past, leading FPIs to anticipate a stronger US economy going ahead. Moreover, high valuations in Indian markets are discouraging foreign investors from putting more money in the economy. As a result, over the past week, the selling pressure eroded Rs 74,563 crore in market value for Reliance Industries, while Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank lost Rs 26,274 crore and Rs 22,254 crore, respectively. The combined market valuation of six of the top 10 most-valued firms dipped by Rs 1,55,721.12 crore last week. <h2> Silver linings</h2>Despite the ongoing outflux of funds since last month, November also saw unprecedented applications of about 40–50 new FPI registrations, which are eyeing to enter the Indian market. This was due to markets SEBIs recent relaxation to NRIs, permitting them to participate up to 100% and announcing measures for ease of entry and operations in India. On the other hand, FPIs invested Rs 599 crore in the debt general limit and Rs 2,896 crore in the debt voluntary retention route (VRR) during the period under review. So far this year, FPIs have invested Rs 1.06 lakh crore in the debt market. <li class="whitespace-normal break-words"></li>Going ahead, investors will be looking for certain macroeconomic cues, which include corporate earnings reports, India's inflation (CPI) and industrial production (IIP) data on November 12, the US inflation report on November 13, and wholesale price index (WPI) data on November 14.

Electric two-wheelers continue to form the bulk of electric vehicle (EV) sales in India, with EV two-wheelers making up 62% of Indian EV sales in November 2024 in terms of numbers. <h2>Ola Electric leads, but market share declines</h2>Ola Electric continues to lead the Indian electric two-wheeler market with sales of 29,191 scooters in November 2024, down from 30,073 scooters sold in November 2023. The company’s market share continues to decline, with the company commanding a market share of 24.5% in November 2024, down from 33% in November 2023. TVS Motor recorded a sale of 26,971 electric scooters in November 2024, up from 19,155 scooters sold in November 2023, recording a growth of 40.8%. The company’s market share has increased from 21% in November 2023 to 23% in November 2024. On the other hand, Bajaj Auto has emerged as a close third, with 26,163 electric scooters sold in November 2024, up from 11,843 electric scooters sold in November 2023, recording a 120.92% year-on-year growth. The company commands a 22% market share in November 2024, up from 20% in November 2023. It's not just the second spot, TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto are now inching close to Ola Electric and if the trend continues, may even dethrone the Bhavish Aggarwal-led company in the coming months. Ather Energy is in the fourth position, with 12,741 electric two-wheelers sold in November 2024, up from 9,342 scooters sold in November 2023, recording a 36.38% year-on-year growth. The company has slightly increased its market share from 10% in November 2023 to 11% in November 2024. Hero MotoCorp takes the fifth spot with 7,309 electric scooters sold in November 2024, up from 3,047 scooters sold in August 2023, recording a 139.88% year-on-year growth. Electric two-wheeler sales grow in November 2024 – TVS and Bajaj fight for the second spot

The much-anticipated IPO (<keyword id="20478869" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="initial-public-offer" source="keywords">initial public offer</keyword>) of food and grocery delivery giant Swiggy is expected to go live between November 6th and 8th, 2024, with the window for <keyword id="21330641" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="anchor-investors" source="keywords">anchor investors</keyword> likely to open on November 5, 2024. The offer consists of around Rs 3,750 crore worth of <keyword id="20953853" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fresh-issue" source="keywords">fresh issue</keyword> and an offer for sale (OFS) of around 18.53 crore shares. All in all, the total issue is expected to be in the range of Rs 11,700 crore and Rs 11,800 crore. Per media reports, the fresh issue component is expected to be pushed up to Rs 4,500 crore, with the company now targeting a diluted valuation of $11.3 billion, as opposed to its previous target of $15 billion. The 25% slash is done to aid retail investors. Per the company, it does not want a "bad IPO." Notably, Swiggy's rival <keyword id="19901323" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zomato" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Zomato" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Zomato">Zomato</keyword>, which recently reported a staggering 389% YoY jump in its net profits, also recently announced that it is taking the QIP (qualified institutional placement) to raise Rs 8,500 crore. For the quarter ended September 30, 2024, Zomato earned a net profit of Rs 176 crore. Over the last year, i.e., between March 2023 and 2024, Swiggy saw its revenue from operations jump by 34% from 8,714.45 crore in FY23 to Rs 11,634.35 crore in FY24. The company's losses also narrowed down to Rs 2,350.24 crore in FY24, from Rs 4,179.31 crore in FY23. Swiggy's rival Zomato had gone public in July 2021, with an offer size of Rs 9,375 crore. At present, the company's stock was trading at Rs 251.95, having surged a whopping 138.48% over the last year. As of August this year, the company's quick commerce wing, <keyword id="20255906" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Instamart" source="keywords">Instamart</keyword>, has a network of 605 active dark stores across 43 Indian cities. Some of the major existing investors in Swiggy include Prosus, which holds a 32% stake, SoftBank, which has an 8% stake, and Accel, which holds a 6% stake in the company. Notably, <keyword id="23707337" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="market-watchdog-SEBI" source="keywords">market watchdog SEBI</keyword> had approved Swiggy's IPO via the confidential filing route. She says the series is actually good. What's interesting to me is that this absurd toilet meme appears to be doing a robust business in the toy aisle of your local discount store. I spoke with Dan Meyer, head of brands at Bonkers Toys, the company behind the flush. "Right away we noticed that it was exploding," Meyer said of the skibidi phenomenon online. Bonkers made a licensing deal and started pitching vendors on the toilet toy — an easy sell, he said. Bonkers started making prototypes of the toilet toy in early 2024 — and it's hit the shelves in time for the holiday season, a tight timeline. "When we're pitching it to [retailers], we had enough data to see that in middle schools and elementary schools, the term skibidi was already a thing," Meyer said. Bonkers could point to the YouTube views the Skibidi Toilet series had racked up — its channel has more than 40 million followers — or how if they searched Instagram, they'd find "hundreds and hundreds" of people dressed in homemade Skibidi Toilet costumes. Bonkers Toys, founded in 2017 in San Diego, has carved a niche for itself by licensing intellectual property from YouTube creators. Its first big toy was the giant "mystery egg" toy for Ryan's World. It also helps them with licensing their brands for merchandise, like Skibidi's deal with Bonkers. Merchandising, like with the toys from Bonkers Toys, is crucial to success for these new media brands, he said. "We believe that young people don't want to pay for content anymore," Goodman told Business Insider. "Their parents pay for subscriptions, and the don't really go to movies the way that they used to — but they like buying stuff." "However, establishing robust direct international connectivity requires further support from the Government of India, which we are actively seeking to make Goa an even more attractive, accessible, and globally connected destination," a spokesperson said. He added that after pandemic disruptions, Goa’s international tourism is rebounding, with over 450,000 foreign arrivals recorded in 2023. Alongside domestic visitors, totaling over 8 million this year, the state’s tourism sector is also thriving. Addressing challenges like limited direct flights, Goa’s tourism officials are working to secure new airline agreements, ensuring an easier journey for international visitors. The Rs 10,000-crore IPO of NTPC Green Energy is also set to come in the first week of November. Following them on heels will be the IPOs of construction firm Afcons Infrastructure, which will look to raise Rs 7,000 crore. Waaree Energies is expected to raise Rs 3,000 crores via its IPO. Additionally, Niva Bupa Health Insurance and One Mobikwik Systems are also planning to raise Rs 3,000 crore and Rs 700 crore, respectively. <h2>Positioning oneself in this IPO Euphoria </h2>So far in 2024, 62 companies have already raised Rs 64,000 crore collectively via mainboard, marking a 29% increase from Rs 49,436 crore, which were mopped up by 57 firms through the IPO route in 2023. Recently, NSE has capped the pre-opening price surge to 90% to discourage investors who are investing only for listing gains. However, this is applicable only for SME IPOs, and not mainboard ones", he continues. Reading the company's DRHP or RHP can be a good starting point to understand why the company wishes to raise funds in the first place. It can also help you understand its long-term objectives. Another good parameter is to check how its peers are performing in the markets, as compared to it. Also evaluate if the company have a steady track record of profitability and revenue growth. Check for the shareholding pattern of the company, pre and post IPO. Is there a fresh issue, or is the IPO entirely OFS (offer for sale), where promotors are offloading their stake in the company? While most IPOs are a mix of the two, heavy selloff of promoter stakes should be construed as a red sign.
