<div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image on-image">PR NEWSWIRE/AP</div></div>Phil Martens, CEO of aluminum giant Novelis, says he's a devotee of the "100-day theory" - decide your <keyword id="132743" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="goals">goals</keyword> in the first 100 days, and make your trajectory clear.
"Very quickly, you have to decide where you're going to go," Martens <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/27/business/phil-martens-of-novelis-on-consistent-leadership.html" target="_blank">tells the New York Times</a>. "Otherwise, the organization will decide for you and will become part of whatever existed before you and whatever will exist after you."
Martens was brought into Novelis four and half years ago with instructions to turn the global company around. He says he spent the first 100 days visiting the company's plants and traveling to its international offices, looking for what was consistent between locations and what changed. He also sat down with members of the Novelis <keyword id="34454" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="leadership">leadership</keyword> team to get their input on various aspects of the company.
The message that he tried to send from the outset, Martens says, was that under his leadership Novelis would be a unified global corporation. "I wanted to make it clear that we were going to have uniform approach," he explains. "I had shirts made up that said 'One Novelis,' and I told everybody at the end of the day: 'On the way out, there are tables out there with new shirts. If you want to come in to the meeting tomorrow, you have to have it on. If not, you can go find something else.'"
"I wanted to create the image of order," he concludes, "and that we are together."

In his previous role, Kini served as the company's chief accounting officer. In other Hootsuite news, former Open Text CFO Paul Mcfeeters agreed to join the social media management platform's board of directors. Hootsuite allows users to connect to popular social networks through a single dashboard. <h3>Other finance moves</h3>Novelis named Steve Pohl interim CFO. The assignment follows the company's decision to name Steve Fisher as CEO in August. Pohl has worked at the aluminum manufacturer and recycler since 2009 and was named vice president of financial planning and analysis in 2012.PG&amp;E announced that CFO Kent Harvey will retire in 2016. Harvey has worked with the company since 1982 and was named head of finance in 2009. Springleaf Holdings named Scott Parker as its new vice president. He will take over that role and the top finance spot on November 15 when the company files its Form 10-Q. He is replacing Minchung Kgil, who will remain CFO of Springleaf's subsidiaries. David Morton Jr. was promoted to the CFO role at Seagate Technology. He is taking over the role from Patrick O'Malley. She then went on to accuse liberals of pushing an "anti-gun and anti-gunowner agenda."In a separate tweet on Thursday, Lahren conveyed a popular conservative talking point:Shortly afterwards, people who appeared to be students from the high school began to reply to Lahren's politically-charged tweets:"A gun has killed 17 of my fellow classmates," one person replied on Twitter. "A gun has traumatized my friends. My entire school, traumatized from this tragedy. This could have been prevented."Another person accused Lahren of being the one who was offended by differing opinions:"I lost friends yesterday at my school and your here tying to prove some of my classmates wrong since the spoke out against you," one person said on Twitter. "Your the offended one here, it's better to stay quiet than to come speak out like this bulls--t.Carly Novell, a 17-year-old senior who hid inside a closet during the shooting, drew upon her experience to prove her point:"I was hiding in a closet for 2 hours. It was about guns," Novell said in a tweet to Lahren. "You weren't there, you don't know how it felt. Guns give these disgusting people the ability to kill other human beings. This IS about guns and this is about all the people who had their life abruptly ended because of guns."Novell later appeared on CNN to talk about her reply to Lahren and her experience in the aftermath of the shooting."I just needed to say something," Novell said to CNN anchor Don Lemon on Thursday. "I think it's different when you hear it from someone who was there."During the shooting, Novell, who was hiding in a closet, said she discussed the subject of gun control with her peers."While we were in there, we were all still talking about gun control and how something needs to change," she said. 'You weren't there, you don't know how it felt': Students from the Parkland high school shooting rebuke a Fox News contributor's politicized tweets

<div class="image-container float_right" style="width:480px"><div class="image"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/tpapi/2765541278/">www.flickr.com</a></div></div>As if on cue, around the country individuals and companies have started filing lawsuits against <keyword id="63460" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="JP-Morgan">JP Morgan</keyword> and <keyword id="6361649" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Goldman-Sachs">Goldman Sachs</keyword> for allegedly delaying deliveries of <keyword id="126663" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="aluminum">aluminum</keyword> stored in their metals warehouses, thus manipulating the price of the commodity.
Lawsuits have been filed in Michigan, Florida and Louisiana. On top of that, <a href="http://www.businessweek.com/printer/articles/569602?type=bloomberg">The Commodities Futures Trading Commission has subpoenaed JPM, Goldman</a>, and <keyword id="35149" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="commodities">commodities</keyword> trading firm <keyword id="193092" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Glencore">Glencore</keyword> for documents related to their warehouse businesses, Bloomberg reports.
The thing is — usually, when an issue is this obscure and hard to understand, it's easily swept under the rug.
And so it could have been with a story that appeared in the <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/21/business/a-shuffle-of-aluminum-but-to-banks-pure-gold.html?pagewanted=1&amp;=_r=6&amp;_r=1&amp;">New York Times last month</a>, accusing Goldman Sachs of using its Detroit metals warehouses to hoard aluminum, driving up the price of the commodity for customers and consumers alike. To understand why you have to understand supply, demand, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/how-contango-makes-money-for-Goldman-2013-7">yield curves and a weird trading term — "contago."</a>
But there are powerful people unwilling to let this issue go, including Ohio Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown, and beer maker MillerCoors. The company's global risk manager Tim Weiner, says that these activities have inflated aluminum costs by $3 billion over the last year.
This isn't to say that <keyword id="42111" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Wall-Street">Wall Street</keyword> would take this lying down (have you met them?). In an attempt to preserve this lucrative business from further criticism, Goldman <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/Goldman-sachs-aluminum-fact-sheet-2013-7">countered the New York Times with its own defense last month</a>, saying that aluminum demand is weak, and that its Detroit-based warehouses control such a small portion of the market that it couldn't possibly be impacting price. The bank later promised to speed up deliveries of aluminum to customers.
But that didn't stop the onslaught. It wasn't long after Goldman's defense that JP Morgan's Henry Bath warehousing businesses (picked up from RBS during the financial crisis fire sale) was under scrutiny as well.
So — the question remains: What's in these lawsuits?
We took a look at a complaint filed against Goldman and its warehouses, Metro International Trade Services, in Michigan. It's a class action suit filed by aluminum product manufacturer <a href="http://www.superiorextrusion.com/">Superior Extrusion</a>. The defendants also include the London Metals Exchange and "John Does 1-10".
And here's what you need to know.
According to the complaint, From 2010 to now Goldman has had a monopoly over London Metals Exchange warehouses in the Detroit area, controlling over 80% of the storage space. That constitutes "75% of the LME aluminum in storage in the United States. It is estimated to constitute more than 50% of the total aluminum in warehouse storage in the United States," the complaint continues.
Superior Extrusion accuses Goldman of "extreme monopoly pricing power and abusive agreements in very unreasonable restraint of trade." Those agreements are described as “get paid more to do less” inefficiency agreements.
The LME, say the plaintiffs, have been more than complicit in this. Superior Extrusion alleges that the LME and Goldman have secondary agreements in which Goldman overbids other market participants to get aluminum to its warehouses.
That, argue the plaintiffs, in turn makes costs go up significantly as Goldman is "offering incentives of up to $250 or more per ton to firms to store aluminum in LME Detroit Warehousing for long periods...."
The plaintiffs go on to say that the LME's actions have an impact on American jobs and American workers (from the complaint):
Far from dissociating itself from Goldman’s anticompetitive purchases and diversions agreements, the LME, per Chris Evans, peremptorily announced in New York during January 2013, that purchasers of aluminum should simply stop paying the high prices. In effect, the LME encouraged users to starve themselves of aluminum and lay off their workers. This classic monopolistic and anticompetitive encouragement, was unlawful because Ford, Novelis, Coca Cola and other users of aluminum do not have to further restrain trade and lay off their workers so that Defendants’ unlawful agreements and abuses of their monopoly powers alleged herein, may continue.
In short: The whole thing is a massive anti-trust conspiracy.
The complaints in all these cases around the country will vary, but likely not by too much. These are all companies suing over the same grievances, hoping that one of them will stick on Wall Street.
The banks, on the other side, will be playing whack-a-mole.
