"Eight years after the non-biological PM ground the economy to a halt through demonetisation, it appears that counterfeit notes have become rife once again - The number of counterfeit Rs 500 notes of the new series that have been detected has nearly quadrupled between 2018-19 and 2023-24. The number of fake Rs 2,000 notes has tripled since 2020-21," he claimed. "While the Government can claim that the overall number of counterfeit notes detected has fallen, this is an eyewash. Counterfeiting has just moved rapidly to higher-value notes, including those that were introduced specifically in the aftermath of demonetisation," Ramesh said in a post on X. "This admission of increased counterfeiting comes shortly after the non-biological PM himself made a stunning admission of the widespread prevalence of black money during the election campaign, accusing his favourites A1 and A2 of bearing tempos and sacks full of black money," he said. Marketing teams, representing 19% of businesses, utilize AI for trend analysis, while 13% apply AI to improve supply chain management. Financial planning, though less prominent (6%), benefits from AI's efficiency-boosting capabilities," the report added. Based on responses from 1,000 professionals and in-depth interviews with 50 industry experts, the report highlighted a significant shift in how businesses are integrating AI into their strategies. While AI has delivered numerous benefits, the report also highlights some key challenges. "Around 34% of organizations face a critical shortage of AI-trained personnel, which hinders their ability to fully leverage AI's potential. This skills gap highlights the need for better AI education and continuous learning programs. In fact, 31 %of organizations have started mentorship initiatives to help develop talent," the report said. AI's impact varies by sector; in mergers and acquisitions, 28% have seen benefits in personalized campaigns, but data privacy remains a hurdle for 22%. IT and augmented reality sectors report enhanced productivity (44%), but struggle with talent shortages. "In finance, AI improves risk management, though 18% face regulatory challenges. Healthcare has seen advancements in diagnostics, yet ethical concerns remain significant for 18% of professionals. In manufacturing, 23% recognize process optimization benefits from AI, but 21% struggle with legacy system integration," it said. Qualitative interviews with industry professionals reveal that transparency in AI decision-making is crucial, with 21% expressing concerns about the "black box" problem. On May 19, 2023, the RBI announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 denomination banknotes from circulation. The total value of Rs 2,000 banknotes in circulation, which was Rs 3.56 lakh crore at the close of business on May 19, 2023, when the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 banknotes was announced, has declined to Rs 7,261 crore at the close of business on August 30, 2024, the RBI said. "Thus, 97.96 % of the Rs 2,000 banknotes in circulation as on May 19, 2023, has since been returned," it said in a statement. The facility for deposit and/or exchange of the Rs 2,000 banknotes was available at all bank branches in the country till October 7, 2023. The facility for the exchange of the Rs 2,000 banknotes has been available at the 19 issue offices of the <keyword id="19922074" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reserve-bank" source="keywords">Reserve Bank</keyword> since May 19, 2023. This is the second time this year that the Fed has lowered the interest rates, after cutting them down by 50 basis points in September 2024. u Fed chair Jerome Powell noted that monetary policy remains tight as inflation remains elevated at 2.4% as of September 2024, slightly above the 2% mark set by the commission. However, the Fed remained optimistic about the current state of the economy. "The Committee seeks to achieve maximum employment and inflation at 2% over the longer run. The Committee judges that the risks to achieving its employment and inflation goals are roughly in balance. The economic outlook is uncertain, and the Committee is attentive to the risks to both sides of its dual mandate," the FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee) noted in its press release. The rate cut was along widely anticipated lines, although experts were wary of the Fed's way ahead, given that Donald Trump has been elected as the US President. In the past, he has, on multiple occasions, expressed his desire to yield greater influence on the Fed, apart from publicly criticizing Powell. However, Powell continued to stand his ground, noting that Trump cannot legally sack him. He believed in keeping the Fed independent, at least until his tenure as governor ends in 2028. He highlighted that even if he is explicitly asked by Trump to quit, he won't do so. <h2>Trump's regime to inch up inflation?</h2> Trump's electoral promises, if translated into policies, could spell disaster for the Fed's effort to curtail inflation. Reportedly, Trump has promised to levy aggressive tariffs against US trading partners, particularly China, and even extend his 2017 tax cuts. This could mean higher levels of the federal deficit, which would push up prices, wages, and hence, inflation, even as the Fed tries to consistently bring it under control. Apurva Sheth, Head of Market Perspectives and Research, SAMCO Securities, notes that it wasn't a surprise when the US Fed cut interest rates by 25 basis points (bps) to 4.75%. The Fed had given enough clues, and the market too had anticipated these rate cuts. "However, what was surprising was how the <keyword id="23863852" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-10-year-bond-yields" source="keywords">US 10-year bond yields</keyword> moved over the last one and a half months, which have been rising relentlessly from 3.6% to almost 4.5% despite the 50 bps cut in the last Fed meeting. It seems that the market is anticipating slower rate cuts going ahead, and maybe there are even chances of inflation rising. The bond yields have cooled off and slipped below the 4.335% mark. This should be bullish for emerging markets like India," he added.

The few Iranian Emad missiles that did reach their target, a large airbase in southern Israel, also <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/iran-ballistic-missiles-to-russia-questionable-accuracy-2024-9">proved significantly less accurate than previously estimated</a>."When it comes to large-scale drone and missile attacks, Iran has to rely on large volumes to try and overwhelm Israeli air and missile defenses," Tack said."If Tehran could achieve strategic surprise in such an overwhelming attack, it is possible that even more missiles would make it through the Israeli defenses, but the recent attacks hardly impact that reasoning or knowledge," Tack added.Unless the Houthis are capable of firing more advanced missiles simultaneously, it's doubtful they can achieve anything more than an "occasional lucky hit" against their distant enemy, Tack said."For the Houthis, the attack — successful or not — is a political achievement that serves their domestic goals. It will drive recruitment and allow them to deploy this as propaganda," Bohl said. "They certainly have learned that Israel's air defenses are robust, but they probably didn't glean much more from the incident than they already knew from the April 2024 incident with Iran."For Israel, the RANE analyst pointed out that using other, less expensive systems than the Arrow 3 makes sense for attacks with singular or small numbers of missiles. By doing so, Israel can preserve the Arrow 3 for combating larger, more challenging, and technologically sophisticated attacks.In addition to Arrow and the short-range Iron Dome, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/see-israel-defense-systems-weapons-in-action-2024-4">Israel operates</a> the David's Sling system, which covers the mid-tier of its air defense. It decided to begin retiring its older, American-made Patriot PAC-2 systems <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/israel-is-retiring-patriot-missile-systems-that-could-help-ukraine-2024-5">earlier this year</a>.Given their geographical distance from Israel, the Houthis are unlikely to become a priority over other Iran-backed militias in the current conflict, especially Hezbollah in Lebanon, which has <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/wider-war-hezbollah-could-unleash-unprecedented-missile-barrage-against-israel-2024-7">a vast arsenal</a> of surface-to-surface missiles."The Houthis are growing as a threat against Israel, and if there is a sustained supply of such missiles from Iran, it could rival Hezbollah in terms of threat with major attacks," Bohl said."But that requires a sustained build-up that I think is still far-off," Bohl added. "For now, Iran, followed by Hezbollah, are the most direct threats to Israel via rockets and missiles."Steven Horrell, a senior fellow with the Transatlantic Defense and Security Program at the Center for European Policy Analysis, believes Sunday's attack was "very illustrative of the overall positions" in both Iran and Israel."For Iran, the Houthi proxies and others remain a cost-effective and consequence-free way to disrupt the international rules-based order and to hit at Israel," Horrell told BI."For Israel, there is a high level of confidence in the multi-layer missile defense — but this is a reminder that it is not perfect; the risk is never brought down to zero," Horrell said.While the US Navy has <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-navy-cant-stop-houthi-attacks-red-sea-shipping-admiral-2024-8">intercepted</a> numerous Houthi drones and missiles in the Red Sea, the CEPA fellow argued these measures equate to "shooting down arrows and not taking out the archer."
