<keyword id="121964" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="central-board-of-direct-taxes" source="Orion">Central Board of Direct Taxes</keyword> (<keyword id="128665" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="cbdt" source="Orion">CBDT</keyword>) chairman <keyword id="225455" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nitin-gupta" source="Orion">Nitin Gupta</keyword> has said that he expects at least 50-66 per cent (two-thirds) of the taxpayers to switch over to the new tax regime in the next financial year itself. "We have left it to the taxpayers as to how many people will shift to the new tax regime. We have left it up to the taxpayers which tax regime they want to live in, but we think that at least 50 per cent to 65-66 per cent (two-thirds) of taxpayers are likely to switch over to the new tax regime in the first year itself," <keyword id="6356160" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="gupta" source="Orion">Gupta</keyword> told in an exclusive interview. The CBDT Chairman, citing the <keyword id="6358021" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="budget" source="Orion">Budget</keyword> announcement, said the income tax rebate limit available for salaried and individual taxpayers under the new income tax regime, introduced in 2020, has been hiked to Rs 7 lakh from the present Rs 5 lakh. Also, the government has announced five slabs in the new income tax regime. On personal income tax, the government announced that tax for income of Rs 0-Rs 3 lakh is nil, for income above Rs 3 lakh and up to Rs 5 lakh will be taxed at 5 per cent, for income of above Rs 6 lakh and up to Rs 9 lakh will be taxed at 10 per cent and for income above Rs 12 lakh and up to Rs 15 lakh to be taxed at 20 per cent and above 15 lakh at Rs 30 per cent. "Not only salaried, even non-salaried people who are also ordinary people, we have widened the slabs, reduced the tax slabs from 6 to 5 slab. We believe that many people will shift to this scheme," CBDT chief said. "I assure you that this scheme will be beneficial for anyone whose income is up to Rs 7 lakh. The person who is salaried class and earns more than 7 lakh then we have given him the benefit of standard deduction of Rs 50,000, this means that if someone's total income is 7.5 lakhs, then even after getting the deduction of 50,000, his income will remain 7 lakh and he will not have to pay any tax," he explained. Two-thirds taxpayers likely to shift to new regime in 2023-24 itself: CBDT chief

The income tax (I-T) department has selected 68,000 high-value transaction cases on a pilot basis pertaining to the financial year 2019-2020 for e-verification. Within six months, it has disposed of 35,000 cases, said <keyword id="121964" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="central-board-of-direct-taxes" source="Orion">Central Board of Direct Taxes</keyword> Chairman <keyword id="225455" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nitin-gupta" source="Orion">Nitin Gupta</keyword>. Gupta said that the I-T department had taken several progressive steps to encourage voluntary tax compliance and facilitate a transparent and non-intrusive tax administration. One such major initiative is the e-Verification Scheme, 2021, which was notified on December 13, 2021. The chairman said that the scheme provided an opportunity for taxpayers to accept the mismatch of information vis-a-vis the original income tax return (<keyword id="6374875" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="itr" source="Orion">ITR</keyword>) filed and it was found that many taxpayers have filed updated ITRs. The e-Verification scheme aims to share and verify such financial transaction with the taxpayer that appears to be either unreported or under-reported in the ITR filed by the taxpayer. The department has been collecting information on financial transactions from multiple sources. Earlier, a part of it was shared with taxpayers in the 26AS statement. However, with a view to effectively utilise the data collected from various sources, the entire information is now displayed to the taxpayer through the <keyword id="12452909" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="annual-information-statement" source="Orion">Annual Information Statement</keyword> (<keyword id="153265" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ais" source="Orion">AIS</keyword>). The AIS provides a facility for the taxpayer to object to any information if the source has reported any such information. The department confirms the said information with the source and if the source states that there is no error, the said information is subjected to risk assessment for e-verification. The entire process of e-verification is digital, with notices issued electronically and responses by the taxpayers also submitted electronically. On the completion of the enquiry, a verification report is prepared electronically without any physical interface with the taxpayer. According to the department, the scheme was getting very encouraging responses as 15 lakh updated returns have been filed so far and the department has got revenue of Rs 1,250 crore from updated returns. This also includes cases of e-verification where the assessee has filed an updated return after e-Verification. The scheme is extremely beneficial to taxpayers as it enables them to explain the financial transaction with evidence. It also helps in data correction and thereby prevents the initiation of proceedings on misreported information. It provides an opportunity to correct updated income that may not have been appropriately reported in ITR filed by taxpayers. It nudges taxpayers towards voluntary compliance by providing an opportunity to the taxpayer to update the return of income tax under Section 139 (8A) of the Income Tax Act, 1961. Income Tax dept selects 68,000 high-value transaction cases for e-verification

IANS takes a look at the nine individuals who are the brains behind the annual exercise. <ul><li>Nirmala Sitharaman, Finance Minister</li></ul> Nirmala Sitharaman will be presenting her fourth Union <keyword id="6358021" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="budget" source="Orion">Budget</keyword> on February 1. She has helmed the Finance Ministry during the two tumultuous years of the Coronavirus pandemic and has piloted several economic relief packages, to help tide over the challenges posed by the pandemic. These funds were primarily contributed towards the strengthening of the core team, upgrading technology and expanding the company’s services to other cities as well. 
 The second funding came in around the month of September in the year 2016, where the company had raised approximately $6 million funding from <keyword id="3180516" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Carpediem-Capital">Carpediem Capital</keyword>, an India-focused private equity fund, and its investors. The company has successfully employed this funding to create a nationwide network for servicing and selling refurbished mobile devices and to broaden its capabilities to include laptops, wearable tech and LED TVs in the near future.

If a success, it would make them value $1 billion per month, because of the boost given in volumes from offline and online partnerships. 
 

	"Striking partnerships is critical to our growth," Nitin Gupta, PayU India CEO told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/payu-india-plans-to-double-value-of-processed-transactions-to-1-billion-per-month/articleshow/53425237.cms">ET</a>. In 2015, AAP had won the seat with Kapil Mishra as the candidate with a margin of over 44,431 votes. Mishra is a former AAP leader who defected to BJP in 2019. He had accused CM Kejriwal and health minister Satyender Jain of corruption and rebelled against the party in 2017. Close fight in Laxmi Nagar There’s a close fight in Laxmi Nagar where Abhay Verma from the BJP is leading by 880 votes over AAP’s Nitin Tyagi. Tyagi had won the 2015 assembly elections by a margin of 4846 votes. Verma is the Vice President of Delhi BJP. He is an advocate with total assets of ₹1.7 crore. Incumbent AAP leader Sarita Singha trails Jitender Mahajan of BJP from Rohtas Nagar who was up against incumbent Sarita Singh, AAP, is leading by 13,458 votes. In the 2015 Assembly elections, Singh won by a margin of 7874 votes by beating Mahajan. Anil Kumar Bajpai’s lead transcends parties BJP’s Anil Kumar Bajpai is leading in the Gandhi Nagar constituency by 5798 votes. He is leading over Naveen Chaudhry of AAP while also leaving behind Congress stalwart Arvinder Singh Lovely. Interestingly, Bajpai had won the same seat last time by 7482 seats but for AAP. He retains the seat but on behalf of the BJP. BJP might win back Ghonda In Ghonda, Ajay Mahawar from BJP has a 22,487-votes lead over the incumbent AAP legislator Shridutt Sharma. In the 2015 assembly elections, Sharma had defeated BJP to win the seat. BJP losses In the Mustafabad constituency, Haji Yunus of AAP has won by 20,704 votes over BJP’s Jagdish Pradhan.In the 2015 elections, Pradhan had won the sea with a margin of 6031 votes. BJP retains Vijender Gupta guns for a comeback Sitting MLA Vijender Gupta is gunning for a comeback from the Rohini constituency. The film also had a decent collection abroad during the debut weekend, grossing around Rs 10.61 crore. Holiday was released in more than 41 countries and has already surpassed the lifetime collections of <keyword id="1020628" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ragini-MMS-2">Ragini MMS 2</keyword> (Rs 47 crore) and Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Bhoothnath Returns (Rs 39 crore). 
 
Holiday netted Rs 12.18 crore on the opening Friday, making it the fourth highest opening day grosser of 2014, behind <keyword id="6354583" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Salman-Khan">Salman Khan</keyword>’s <keyword id="6593120" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Jai-Ho">Jai Ho</keyword> (Rs 17.55 crore), Ranveer Singh-Arjun Kapoor starrer Gunday (Rs 16.12 crore) and <keyword id="114453" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Arjun-Kapoor">Arjun Kapoor</keyword>’s 2 States (Rs 12.42 crore). The movie also witnessed the third highest opening weekend of the current year – behind Jai Ho (Rs 58.07 crore) and Gunday (Rs 40.26 crore). 
 Other two releases of the week include <keyword id="1598621" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nitin-Kakkar">Nitin Kakkar</keyword>’s critically acclaimed movie <keyword id="1600793" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Filmistaan">Filmistaan</keyword> and <keyword id="2151778" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nisha-Pahuja">Nisha Pahuja</keyword>’s award-winning documentary <keyword id="2109617" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="The-World-Before-Her">The World Before Her</keyword>. In spite of good reviews, Filmistaan fared poorly due to lack of promotion and star value, netting Rs 3.19 crore at home after Day IV. Coming back to <keyword id="2113212" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Holiday-A-Soldier-Is-Never-Off-Duty">Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty</keyword>, the Akshay-Sonakshi starrer has many a surprise in store, thanks to the twists and turns of a complex plot that interweaves some slick action and offbeat romance with serious issues like brutal terrorism and deep-rooted corruption. This one is a remake of the <keyword id="2317374" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tamil-action-thriller">Tamil action thriller</keyword> <keyword id="916764" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Thuppakki">Thuppakki</keyword> (starring Vijay and <keyword id="38180" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Kajal-Aggarwal">Kajal Aggarwal</keyword>) that won both critical acclaim and <keyword id="1996041" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Box-office-success">box office success</keyword>. The Hindi remake is equally enthralling, if not more, and Akki (<keyword id="2317380" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Captain-Virat-Bakshy">Captain Virat Bakshy</keyword>) rules the flick till the end. While the soldier on leave springs into action to save Mumbai from the clutches of the terrorists, his lady love <keyword id="1579477" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Saiba">Saiba</keyword> (<keyword id="62210" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sonakshi-Sinha">Sonakshi Sinha</keyword>) turns out to be a <keyword id="340167" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="professional-boxer">professional boxer</keyword> and not the traditional Indian girl he has assumed her to be. Overall, an enjoyable movie in spite of some logical fault lines in the story. 
 
 
 
In sharp contrast, Nitin Kakkar’s directorial debut Filmistaan once again harks back to the untold realities of <keyword id="136188" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indo-Pak-relations">Indo-Pak relations</keyword>, seen through the eyes of <keyword id="609" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sunny">Sunny</keyword> (<keyword id="1600789" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sharib-Hashmi">Sharib Hashmi</keyword>), a <keyword id="2317356" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="small-time-actor-turned-documentary-director">small-time-actor-turned-documentary-director</keyword>. His <keyword id="6374782" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="journey">journey</keyword> through ‘enemy’ territory and the days spent there in captivity gradually unveil the human and cultural bonding that never fails to exist in spite of the political divide. 
 
Finally, we come to Nisha Pahuja’s The World Before Her – a 90-minute documentary that follows the contrasting lifestyles of two <keyword id="624" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Women">women</keyword> in search of empowerment. And in doing so, Pahuja reveals some disturbing questions that are bound to haunt today’s women. As <keyword id="210839" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Critic">critic</keyword> Shubhra Gupta so rightly points out: There are not just two Indias... There are many more. What choices do the girls who live in those other Indias have? Do they have any at all?

Each square is identified by a combination of three seemingly random words.In a delivery scenario, the drive receives the code, which identifies the grid square containing the entrance as opposed to the traditional address. Recipients can also use the tech to identify a precise location for packages to be dropped (within 10 feet) — like the back door instead of the front. In many cases, recipients enter their street address when they make the initial purchase and then see a question pop up asking them to specify a grid square. Then what3words generates the code for Axelhire to use when it's delivery time. "This is a new way of thinking about addresses and collecting information," Robinson told Insider. Axlehire became the first US last-mile delivery company to work with what3words in December, but the company had previously worked with global delivery companies, automakers, and emergency call centers in the UK, Australia, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Singapore, Canada, India, and South Africa. <h2>Pooling local knowledge</h2>Beans.ai is another company that's looking to cut down on wasted time and emissions with more precise address data — but this time built with shoe leather. The team has been building a massive database of practical address data for five years by paying gig economy drivers already delivering food, to record the exact steps needed to actually reach not just an address, but a doorstep. And it's not just finding the door. Beans collects data on other crucial details like doormen's hours and procedures for large packages — sometimes from drivers on the ground, sometimes by contacting builders and property management companies. Cofounder Nitin Gupta came up with the idea when paramedics took 15 minutes to find his apartment after they'd arrived at the address following an emergency call for his mother, he <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/100-people-transforming-business-2022?person=nitin-gupta">told Insider last year</a>. His mother survived, but it was close. In addition to paying gig drivers to record info, Beans.ai collected decades of info that emergency responders still keep in binders full of notes on paper. Gupta said the average use saves three-and-a-half minutes per delivery. That may not sound like a lot of value for consumers, but it's essentially $1 of labor per delivery saved for logistics companies, and it could mean a lot to the last few deliveries on a route, which are easily bumped to the next day when time is wasted wandering around vast apartment complexes. Cofounder Akash Agarwal told Insider it also tends to drive 7-10% higher tips for drivers. The healthcare sector in India has begun to integrate AI across the healthcare value chain, from patient care to medical management to disease prevention. AI is being widely used as a tool for case assessments to support specialists such as doctors and radiologists. According to NASSCOM, data and AI have the potential to contribute $450-$500 billion to India’s GDP by 2025 and the healthcare sector is a significant beneficiary of the potential value add with a contribution of $25-$30 billion. In the post-COVID era, NASSCOM believes, AI will be instrumental in timely epidemic outbreak prediction, remote diagnostics, and optimized health resource allocation. In India, leading hospitals are already leveraging the technology for advanced use cases. Last year, Apollo Hospitals launched an AI tool to predict the risk of cardiovascular disease aimed at initiating early intervention. The tool, developed on Microsoft Azure, is built on algorithms based on ten years of anonymized data from around 400,000 individuals across the country. Manipal Hospital, for example, is one of the first hospitals to use IBM Watson, a cognitive technology platform, in Oncology to improve cancer treatment. AI aids professionals to review images and scans with more accuracy and precision, helping diagnose conditions earlier, which can lead to better patient outcomes. AI addresses acute healthcare challenges Shortage of qualified healthcare professionals is an acute challenge that the country has been facing over the years. This is an area where AI can make an immediate difference. “According to the WHO, the doctor-to-patient ratio in India is 1:1456 as against the 1:1000 recommendation. Doctors have significant administrative responsibilities, including documenting patient encounters, answering inbox messages, ordering medications or tests, and much more. AI-powered voice assistants can help physicians complete many of these tasks more quickly, enabling them to spend more time with their patients,” Nitin Gupta, Vice President- Engineering and India Head, Suki – an AI powered, voice enabled digital assistant for doctors. Gupta says that the increasing adoption of electronic health records (EHR) among Indian healthcare providers will add more administrative burden for doctors and AI will play a key role in taking these clerical tasks away from doctors and healthcare professionals. Currently, healthcare providers are focusing on similar AI use cases that have ease of implementation and immediate RoI. In the long run, however, AI has the potential to transform care delivery, operational excellence and customer experience. R&amp;D and healthcare innovation are another top priority for AI implementations. Data complexities abound While the possibilities of AI in transforming healthcare are almost endless, Indian healthcare providers must deal with regulatory concerns or more precisely, the absence of regulation in the private sector. The complex and variable nature of healthcare data, along with growing ethical and privacy issues, makes it highly challenging to build AI algorithms. Another critical challenge, says Gupta of Suki, is around interoperability. AI requires vast datasets to operate, so enabling systems to share data will result in richer, more comprehensive datasets to power AI solutions. “At the same time, healthcare providers must appreciate the importance of data security and privacy, and permissions and protocols must be put in place to guarantee that people only have access to the information they need to do their jobs. To reduce the risk of bad actors, infrastructure must be developed. Finally, it's critical to communicate to the market exactly what data can and cannot be used for,” he adds. Furthermore, because AI-generated models can be difficult to explain, doctors now have the additional burden of understanding and having confidence in recommendations from AI-powered solutions. For clinical recommendations, regulatory oversight should be heavily considered to help ensure the safety of these solutions.
