In a survey conducted by professional networking site LinkedIn, 78% of Indian professionals said that they go to the office by choice. Workers were also asked how positive or negative they feel about working in the office compared to a year ago. And, they said that they are generally more receptive to working in the office, with 86% of Indians saying they feel positive about it compared to a year ago. Does time spent in the office impact one’s career? Hybrid work has raised some questions on whether lack of time in office and reduced visibility will have an impact on one’s career. LinkedIn research revealed that 63% of Indians feel that remote work has no harmful impact on their careers. However, a similar proportion also believe that their chances of career growth could be reduced if they didn’t go to office as much. An overwhelming 79% of Indians say Thursday is the new Friday which may stem from the fact that Friday is the least popular day for workers to go to the office. Of those Indians who say that Thursday feels like the new Friday, 50% would spend more time with family and friends on Fridays. And, 46% of employees said that they would try to focus on finishing the week's work quickly on Fridays, and hop into an early weekend. When asked why they would show up at the office, the number one reason for Indian respondents was social interactions (43%), followed by having more efficient face-to-face meetings with co-workers (42%) and building work relationships (41%) at a close second and third. Workers are going into Monk Mode – the practice of solely working on one task – to increase their focus when working in the office. Almost one in two workers in India (47%) said they have tried going on Monk Mode and were successful in practicing this. Indian professionals feel that AI can simplify their lives and lead to increased job satisfaction

Sharing salary information is considered taboo in India, and 61 per cent of professionals are more comfortable sharing their pay details with family members rather than with co-workers or friends, a LinkedIn report said on Thursday. Just one in 10 professionals said they would discuss their salaries with coworkers they trust (13 per cent) and peers they trust in other companies (9 per cent). According to LinkedIn's <keyword id="9245189" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Workforce-Confidence-Index" source="Orion">Workforce Confidence Index</keyword>, India's overall workforce confidence has dwindled slightly. "This is due to a volatile perception towards jobs, finances, and career progress in these times of global uncertainty," said the report. Despite a dip in overall confidence, India's workforce remains optimistic about navigating these challenges as seven in 10 professionals say they are confident about reaching the next level in their field, their work experience and education and chances of their income increasing. "Professionals are still not comfortable to have conversations about pay in the workplace," said Nirajita Banerjee, India Managing Editor, LinkedIn News. Family and friends remain India's closest confidantes when it comes to sharing the size of their paychecks. However, "the current generation of young professionals are more willing to share pay information with their coworkers and industry peers as compared to other generations", Banerjee noted. In fact, Gen Z professionals are found most likely to share their pay across their whole network as compared to any other age group. Around 72 per cent of Gen Z and 64 per cent of millennials in India say they are comfortable sharing their pay information with family members, while 43 per cent of Gen Z and 30 per cent of millennials are also willing to confide in their close friends. "Gen Z are keen to influence change and eager to lead these conversations in the workplace, Banerjee added. About 45 per cent of professionals in India say pay discussions among peers are discouraged at their workplace. Further, 36 per cent of professionals in India also say they feel anxious sharing their pay information with anyone. Or have you ever scratched your head when you were asked to add more value to your quarterly sales presentations? Well, you are not the only one if professional social networking platform LinkedIn and language learning app, Duolingo’s joint survey findings are anything to go by. The platform has found that employees find workplace jargon most confusing. An astonishing 37% of professionals surveyed by the world’s largest professional networking platform feel left out of conversations because of the use of jargon and believe that adhering to the ‘Keep It Simple Series’ helps. According to their research, business jargon like ‘keep me in the loop’ and ‘let’s take this offline’ are most confusing for Indians. Workplace inequity is the latest problem that companies need to worry about because language can also lead to inequity. According to Duolingo-LinkedIn’s survey, 81% professionals believe that workers with a better understanding of workplace jargon are able to get ahead at work by getting promotions and better pay hikes. In comparison, those people who struggle to understand workplace terms may often get a raw deal. It’s even more concerning that a disproportionate amount of remote (88%) and hybrid (81%) workers struggle with confusion around workplace jargon, as compared to those who work onsite (74%). Oftentimes, seniors use phrases like ‘keep me in the loop’, a term that means “keeping someone informed or updated on a topic”, but it often leaves others rather flummoxed. The other confusing terms are – ‘take offline’ (to discuss something away from a virtual to an in-person setting) and even ‘win-win situation’ (results that are beneficial for all the parties involved) and ‘core competency’(capabilities that are one’s defining strength). So, when you’re working with teams that have different functions, are spread across borders, or come from diverse cultures, it’s crucial to use simpler and more inclusive language so there’s less or no room for misinterpretation. By avoiding too much jargon and using clear language, we create an environment where everyone feels more included, which leads to greater productivity, stronger teams, and a positive work culture.” You would assume that <keyword id="4550079" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="genz" source="Orion">GenZ</keyword>, which have shortcodes for almost all things they do would be adept at picking up business jargon too, but it seems that 60% of Gen Z and 63% of all working millennials are the most confused by jargon, having misunderstood or misused it at their workplace. It is no surprise that more Indians (71% of those surveyed) want to eliminate or reduce the use of workplace jargon at work. Despite that, millennials are found using workplace jargon the most (39%) along with Gen Z (36%).
