The country's biggest private sector lender had earned a <keyword id="19942166" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="net-profit" source="keywords">net profit</keyword> of Rs 15,976 crore in the same quarter a year ago. Total income increased to Rs 85,500 crore during the quarter under review against Rs 78,406 crore in the same period last year, HDFC Bank said in a regulatory filing. The bank reported <keyword id="20202322" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="interest-income" source="keywords">interest income</keyword> of Rs 74,017 crore during the quarter compared to Rs 67,698 crore in the same period a year ago. Net Interest Income (NII) improved to Rs 30,110 crore, from Rs 27,390 crore in the second quarter of previous year, registering a 10 per cent growth. As regards asset quality, the bank witnessed slight deterioration with gross <keyword id="19927319" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Non-Performing-Assets" source="keywords">Non-Performing Assets</keyword> (NPAs) rising to 1.36 per cent of the gross loans by the end of September 2024 from 1.34 per cent a year ago. Similarly, net NPAs or bad loans rose to 0.41 per cent from 0.35 per cent at the end of the second quarter of the previous fiscal. On a consolidated basis, the bank logged a growth of 6 per cent in net profit to Rs 17,826 crore as against Rs Rs 16,811 crore in Q2FY24. HDFC Bank Q2 profit soars 5% to ₹16,821 crore

The government-owned bank's total income shot up to Rs 29,962 crore during the quarter from Rs 25,722 crore in the same period last year. PNB's net interest income (<keyword id="19936363" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nii" source="keywords">NII</keyword>) went up 12.1 per cent to Rs 10,293 crore from Rs 9,179.4 crore in the year ago period, according to a regulatory filing. The bank's asset quality also improved during the quarter with gross non-performing assets (<keyword id="19964545" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="npas" source="keywords">NPAs</keyword>) declining to 6.24 per cent of total loans from 9.76 per cent in the same period last year. Net NPAs came down to 0.96 per cent from 3.30 per cent. The provisions for bad loans made by the bank came down to Rs 2,739.1 crore from Rs 4,713.34 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. PNB clocks 3-fold jump in net profit at ₹2,223 crore for Q3

The Entero Healthcare Solutions had received only 9% subscription on its first day. While the IPO was fully subscribed, non-institutional investors (NIIs) did not fully subscribe to the shares reserved for them. Qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) stepped in on the final day to subscribe to the IPO. The company had fixed the price band at ₹1,195 to ₹1,258 per equity share for its public offer which closed on Tuesday, February 13. The minimum bid quantity was set at 38 equity shares and in multiples of 38 equity shares thereafter. While the total issue size is ₹1,600 crore, it includes a fresh issue of shares worth ₹1,000 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of shares worth ₹600 crore. Ahead of the IPO, the company raised ₹716.4 crore from anchor investors. Of the total IPO size, 75% was reserved for QIBs, 15% for NIIs and 10% for retail individual investors. The company had reserved shares worth ₹8 crore for employees. Entero Healthcare Solutions IPO fully subscribed on final day despite muted NII participation

<keyword id="45123" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hdfc" source="Orion">HDFC</keyword> on Thursday posted a 13 per cent increase in its profit after tax to Rs 3,691 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2022, against Rs 3,261 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous period. The company also reported its profit before tax for the nine months ended December 31, 2022, stood at Rs 14,616 crore compared to Rs 12,624 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year. After providing Rs 2,802 crore for tax, the reported profit after tax stood at Rs 11,814 crore, against Rs 10,042 crore in the previous year, representing a growth of 18 per cent. The company said its <keyword id="466771" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="net-interest-income" source="Orion">net interest income</keyword> (<keyword id="253714" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nii" source="Orion">NII</keyword>) for the reviewed quarter was Rs 4,840 crore compared to Rs 4,284 crore in the previous year, registering a growth of 13 per cent. The NII for the nine months ended December 31, 2022, was Rs 13,926 crore, against Rs 12,519 crore in the previous year. The reported net interest margin (<keyword id="173910" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nim" source="Orion">NIM</keyword>) for the nine months ended December 31, 2022, was 3.5 per cent. The spread on loans over the cost of borrowings for the nine months ended December 31, 2022, was 2.29 per cent, the company said. The spread on the individual loan book was 1.91 per cent and on the nonindividual book was 3.69 per cent. For the nine months ended December 31, 2022, the company said on account of volatile equity markets, the net gain on investments fair valued through the profit and loss account stood at Rs 89 crore. The company said its dividend income was Rs 2,528 crore while the profit on the sale of investments of Rs 184 crore for the first nine months ended December 31, 2022. The company said non-interest expense ratios were higher largely due to an increase in upfront expenses on staffing, loan processing, branch expansion and information technology to enable meeting the increased demand for home loans. HDFC's Q3 net profit rises 13% ₹3,691 crore

New Delhi: Shares of Federal Bank on Tuesday jumped 8 per cent after the firm posted an 11 per cent increase in net profit to Rs 1,057 crore in the September quarter. The stock climbed 8 per cent to Rs 199.55 on the BSE. At the NSE, it soared 7.83 per cent to Rs 199.49. The lender had earned a net profit of Rs 954 crore in the year-ago period. The total income increased to Rs 7,541 crore during the quarter under review against Rs 6,186 crore in the same quarter last year, Federal Bank said in a regulatory filing on Monday. The bank reported an interest income of Rs 6,577 crore during the quarter, higher than Rs 5,455 crore in the same period a year earlier. Net interest income (NII) grew 15 per cent to Rs 2,367 crore, as compared to Rs 2,056 crore in the same quarter a year ago. As regards asset quality, the bank witnessed an improvement with gross non-performing assets (NPAs) declining to 2.09 per cent of the gross loans by the end of September 2024, from 2.26 per cent a year ago. Similarly, net NPAs, or bad loans, moderated to 0.57 per cent from 0.64 per cent at the end of the second quarter of the previous fiscal year.

The entire funds raised will go to Hyundai Global, the South Korean parent company. Hyundai Motor India lists at a 1.3% discount, continuing the trend of big IPOs making a bad debut

Indian banks are expected to have steady growth in earnings and returns over the next 3–4 years, according to a recent report by Jefferies. It expects a 13% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in loan growth for banks between FY24 and FY27, helmed by a supportive environment and expected adjustments in interest rates. "We expect steady growth in earnings and stable returns, Over FY24-27, the banks we cover should see 13% CAGRin loans We factor 25-50 bps cut in rates, &amp; depending on timing, NIMs will move," the report said. Depending on the timing, these rate cuts could impact banks' <keyword id="20076541" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="net-interest-margins" source="keywords">net interest margins</keyword> (NIMs), which measure the difference between interest income generated and interest paid to depositors. The report also notes that banks' net interest income (NII), a critical metric that is reflective of how much a bank earns from its lending, could grow at a steady 12% CAGR, which would support overall earnings growth. <h2>Rate cuts probable next year</h2>Per SBI Mutual Fund's monthly outlook for November 2024, while markets were initially speculating possible rate reductions in December this year or February next year these chances now stand dampened due to two reasons. First, elevated CPI numbers in September, which stood at a nine-month high, underlined the stickiness of food inflation. Secondly, RBI governor Das recently highlighted his hawkish stance at a conference, stating that "rate cuts at this stage would be premature and risky’. The report further adds that February 2025, or even April, would be a better time to discuss repo rate cuts in India. Even <keyword id="19985925" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bank-credit-growth" source="keywords">bank credit growth</keyword> has continued to outpace deposit growth for two years now. However, they seem to be inching closer in the recent past. For instance, in October 2024, while bank credit growth remained at 12.7%, the deposit growth rate followed closely at 11.8%. This also means that banks are witnessing an elevated bank credit-to-deposit ratio, standing at 77% in October. <h2>Risks in unsecured lending </h2>However, Jefferies noted some areas of caution that could influence growth in other revenue streams, particularly fees. Growth in fees may be at risk due to expected declines in the disbursal of unsecured loans, which generally carry higher interest rates and generate higher fees for banks. October saw stress and defaults rising in the unsecured lending space, prompting the RBI to intervene. As a result, unsecured loans by banks have only grown by 12.1%, the lowest since the pandemic. Despite these risks, the report expects banks' return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE) to remain healthy, underscoring the sector's stable profitability potential. The report also highlights that while the Nifty Banks index has risen by 19% over the past year, it has still underperformed the broader Nifty index, which delivered 27% returns in the same period. BSE Bankex has been along similar lines, generating returns worth 19% over one year. While the Nifty banks' index has a YTD (yield to date) of 7.63%, it continues to trail Nifty's YTD of 11.30%

Indian banks to have steady growth in earning over next 3-4 years, fees from unsecured lending may dip, notes Jefferies report

Food delivery and quick-commerce behemoth Swiggy's initial public offering (IPO) closes for subscription today. The issue has already been subscribed about 213% as of 1:35 pm today. The offer garnered massive interest from QIB (qualified institutional buyers), who subscribed 3.46x to it, bidding for 30,09,09,954 shares as against 8,69,23,475 shares allotted for them. The company will tentatively list on both BSE and NSE on November 13, 2024. Swiggy's employees also gave the IPO a thumbs-up, subscribing 1.42x to the offer. Around 7,50,000 shares were reserved for employees in the IPO, at a discount of Rs 25 to the issue price. On the other hand, retail investors subscribed to 99% of their potion. At the same time, the NII (non-institutional category) fetched a muted response, with investors subscribing to only 25% of shares in their category. <h2>Dull GMP</h2> Pre-IPO, Swiggy had also lapped up Rs 5,085 crore from anchor investors. With a price band of Rs 371-390, the company is looking to raise Rs 11,327 crore from the IPO. Out of this, the fresh issue component is worth Rs 4,499 crore, and the offer for sale (OFS) is Rs 6,828 crore. Investors can expect dampened listing day gains, going by the trends in the GMP (grey market premium) market. The company's last-traded GMP was at a mere Rs 1, taking the estimated listing price to Rs 391 (upper end of the price band at Rs 390 + GMP), which means that the potential gain per share would be a minuscule 0.26%. About 12% of the company's revenue comes from its quick commerce wing i.e. Instamart, while Dineout (eating out) and platform innovations make up about 1% each of the revenue. "Swiggy’s IPO price band implies 1) EV/revenue multiple of ~6.5x, 2) EV/GOV of ~2.1x, and 3) a P/S of ~6.7x based on annualized FY25F financials. The valuation is at a discount to Zomato, which trades at an EV/revenue multiple of ~11.3x, an EV/GOV of ~3.2x (annualized), and a P/S of ~11.4x based on FY25F consensus estimates. Internal controls, as reflected in the auditor’s qualified opinion, and increased competitive intensity are the key downside risks, in our view," InCred further adds. But this year, there are strong signs that companies are ready to start going public and merging again.<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/megamergers-deals-m-a-wall-street-comeback-2024-9">Preliminary data compiled by LSEG</a> shows 425 mergers globally so far this year valued at more than $1 billion. That's up 24% from the same period in 2023. What's more, deals valued at greater than $10 billion were recently up 39% compared with the same period last year.The number of companies going public is also soaring. 106 US companies have gone public through the third quarter, raising a total of $24.7 billion, according to IPO tracker Renaissance Capital. That's up from 71 in 2022 and 108 in 2023 and on track to beat the $27 billion raised in those two years.Third-quarter results — and commentary about 4Q dealmaking so far — will be closely watched for further signs of progress in M&amp;A, equity underwriting, and debt underwriting.<h2 id="bf745d80-abee-4488-881c-e8551a17811c">Trading</h2>At the Barclays Financial Services conference in September, big bank executives warned that trading revenues may be muted compared to 2023.Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon described a "more challenging macro environment, particularly in the month of August," and warned that the bank's trading business "is trending down close to 10%." Solomon cited the bank's revenues for FICC, or fixed-income, currencies and commodities, saying that results were "very, very strong" in the third quarter of 2023.At the same conference, JPMorgan's president and chief operating officer, Daniel Pinto, predicted that trading revenues would be "flat to slightly up 2%." "It was a bit more challenging environment to monetize client flows, particularly in rates," he said.<h2 id="723af9a4-99cc-49fd-b909-2fc736985cbb">Lending</h2>Stock analysts will be watching what banks say about net interest income, which is how much banks earn off the difference between what they pay on deposits and what they earn on loans. When the Fed started raising rates, banks were making out like bandits because they were able to charge more for loans more quickly than they were raising rates on savings accounts.But banks have been warning that this dichotomy wouldn't last forever, and loan growth has indeed been slowing as the economy slows. Lower rates could boost lending yet again, but that could take time. In the meantime, JPMorgan's Pinto in September warned that Wall Street stock analysts' 2025 predictions for NII of between $91.5 billion and $90 billion were too high, sending the bank's stock down."I think that that number will be lower," Pinto said at the Barclays Financial Services conference. The IPO, which closes on October 17, has already attracted significant attention from retail and institutional investors. The issue was subscribed 0.27x in the retail category, 0.05x in the QIB (qualified institutional buyers) category and 0.13x in the NII (non institutional investors) category. <keyword id="19972907" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="retail-investors" source="keywords">Retail investors</keyword> placed bids for 1.3 crore shares, as against the 4.94 crore shares which were offered to them. In contrast, Hyundai employees showed strong support for the IPO, bidding for 6,28,509 shares, as against the 7,78,400 shares allocated to them. Just a day before, Hyundai had raised Rs 8,315.3 crore from about 225 <keyword id="21330641" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="anchor-investors" source="keywords">anchor investors</keyword>. The list included several marquee global names, like the <keyword id="22882636" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Government-of-Singapore" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Government of Singapore" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Government of Singapore">Government of Singapore</keyword>, New World Fund Inc, and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. These institutions, along with Fidelity, Government Pension Fund Global, and American Funds Insurance Series New World Fund, invested a combined Rs 2,191.66 crore in the company. Other notable participants in the anchor round included Vanguard, Blackrock, Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan. Hyundai Motor India allocated 4.2 crore equity shares to these anchor investors at Rs 1,960 per share. Also, 34.42% of the entire allocation to anchor investors went to 21 domestic mutual funds via 83 schemes. AMCs (asset management companies) like ICICI, Invesco, Kotak and UTI were part of this round. While the current IPO is entirely OFS (offer for sale), which means that no part of the proceeds will go to Hyundai Motor India, the company has announced that it plans to invest more than Rs 33,000 crore over the next 10 years in India. The country is an important market for the South Korean automobile giant, given that it is the 2nd largest OEM (original equipment manufacturer) in the passenger vehicle space in India. However, the market is already preparing for muted listing day gains, with the company's GMP dropping to Rs 59 today. Hyundai is estimated to list at Rs 2,019 per today's GMP, taking the expected gain/loss per share to a minuscule 3.01%, as per data from IPO site Chittorgarh.

New Delhi: As the earnings season for the second quarter of FY25 unfolds, <keyword id="19959986" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="public-sector-banks" source="keywords">public sector banks</keyword> (PSBs) are expected to see a slight dip in profits compared to the previous quarter, according to a report by <keyword id="19896146" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Motilal-Oswal" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Motilal Oswal" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="Motilal Oswal">Motilal Oswal</keyword>. The report estimates that PSBs' Profit After Tax (PAT) will decline by 0.6 per cent quarter-on-quarter (QoQ), while showing a stronger year-on-year (YoY) growth of 17.2 per cent. "We estimate PSBs to report moderate <keyword id="19899597" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="earnings-growth" source="keywords">earnings growth</keyword> of 17.2 pc YoY/ a decline of 0.6 pc QoQ in 2QFY25," the report stated. The slower pace of growth can be attributed to flat net interest margins (NIMs) and a slight increase in loan loss provisions (LLP). The <keyword id="20171160" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Net-Interest-Income" source="keywords">Net Interest Income</keyword> (NII) for PSBs is expected to grow by around 6 per cent YoY, although interest margins are likely to remain under pressure. Despite these near-term challenges, the report suggests that public sector banks are on track to post a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15 per cent between FY24 and FY26, pointing to sustained long-term growth. In the private sector banking space, the report forecasts mixed results for the same quarter. For private banks under the coverage, Pre-Provision Operating Profit (PPoP) is expected to grow by 12 per cent YoY and 1 per cent QoQ. However, PAT growth is predicted to be more modest, increasing by 5 per cent YoY and 0.6 per cent QoQ. "For our private bank coverage universe, we estimate a PPoP growth of 12 pc YoY/1 pc QoQ and a PAT growth of 5 pc YoY/0.6 pc QoQ in 2QFY25," the report added. Looking ahead, private sector banks are expected to experience steady profitability growth, with earnings projected to grow at a CAGR of 12.4 per cent over FY24-FY26. Overall, while both public and private sector banks may face moderate growth in the second quarter due to margin pressures and higher provisions, their long-term earnings prospects remain positive. The issue, which opened on October 15th, 2024, was subscribed to a total of 2.12 times, with <keyword id="21713453" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="QIBs" source="keywords">QIBs</keyword> making a mad, last-minute dash for the IPO, subscribing to it by over 6 times. <keyword id="20031464" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="retail-participation" source="keywords">Retail participation</keyword> in Hyundai Motors India's IPO remained largely subdued, with investors only subscribing to 45% of the shares earmarked for them. As against 4.94 crore shares which were allocated for them, investors only bid for 2.23 crore shares. QIBs (<keyword id="20240741" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Qualified-Institutional-Buyers" source="keywords">Qualified Institutional Buyers</keyword>), who had been offered about 19.89% of the total issue pie, ended up with oversubscribing to the issue by a massive 6.32x. QIBs bid for 17,86,65,739 shares, as against 2,82,83,260 shares allocated for them. QIBs are generally large financial institutions such as mutual funds, AIFs (alternative investment funds), venture capital funds, commercial banks, insurance companies and pension funds. Note that a provisional fund, or a pension fund would need a minimum of Rs 25 crore as its corpus, in order to identify as a QIB. What sets anchor investors, who generally bid for an IPO a day before the subscription is set to start, from QIBs is their bid amount. Anchor investors are also QIBs, who are mandated to bid for a minimum of Rs 1o crore worth of shares in an IPO. Hyundai Motor India's employees, who were offered the share at a discount of Rs 186, and also 0.55% of the total stake, were another segment that received the IPO positively. The IPO was subscribed 1.65x in this category, with employees bidding for 12,81,343 shares as against 7,78,400 shares reserved for them. <keyword id="19901201" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SEBI" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="SEBI" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="SEBI">SEBI</keyword> regulations mandate that except for retail investors, no other category of IPO bidders cannot cancel or modify the bids they've once placed. QIBs and NIIs can only increase their bid quantity or price, and have no way of downsizing or cancelling the bids once placed. Unlike anchor investors, who have a 30-day lock-in period before selling off 50% of their allotted shares and another 90-day lock-in period before selling the rest, QIBs can begin selling their shares as soon the stock is listed on the exchanges, and begins trading. The share allotment for this IPO is expected to be done by October 18th, with the listing on BSE and NSE tentatively set for October 22. According to recent trends, the company's GMP (grey market premium) was trading at Rs 15, bringing its potential listing price to Rs 1,975, and the expected listing gains to a mere 0.77%.
