Stock market opens flat with a marginal decline, rangebound movement expected

US elections, Fed meeting, China's meet on stimulus will keep pressure on Indian stocks: Experts

The 30-share <keyword id="19950208" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bse-sensex" source="keywords">BSE Sensex</keyword> settled 523 points or 0.73 per cent lower at 71,072.49. The benchmark touched the lowest level of 70,922.57 during intra-day trade. The broader NSE Nifty also closed 170.05 points or 0.78 per cent at 21,612.45. As many as 22 stocks of the 30-share index settled in red while 34 constituents of Nifty50 closed the session with losses. In the Sensex pack, NTPC, Tata Steel, SBI and IndusInd Bank were among the major laggards. In contrast, Wipro, HCL Tech, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra and Nestle were among the nine stocks that defied the trend. <keyword id="19895774" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bse" source="keywords">BSE</keyword> smallcap index fell 3.16 per cent while midcap lost 2.62 per cent and largecap closed 0.90 per cent lower. In Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei 225 closed 0.9 per cent higher and China's Shanghai Composite went up 1.28 per cent. Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 0.83 per cent. European markets were trading on a mixed note with CAC 40 of France and DAX of Germany rising, while London's FTSE 100 in the negative. Global oil benchmark Brent crude declined 0.50 per cent to USD 81.78 a barrel on Monday. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) purchased shares worth Rs 141.95 crore on Friday, according to exchange data. On Friday, Sensex climbed 167.06 points or 0.23 per cent to settle at 71,595.49 points while the Nifty gained 64.55 points or 0.30 per cent to close at 21,782.50 points.

Nifty Sensex breaks five-session losing trend, experts predict positive outlook this week

Both indices, <keyword id="19896382" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sensex" source="keywords">Sensex</keyword> and <keyword id="19896381" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty" source="keywords">Nifty</keyword> closed the day in the green. While Nifty closed at 24,800 points, up by 0.76%, Sensex inched up by 626.91 points to close at 81,343.46 points on 18th July, 2024. LTI Mindtree (up by 3.48%), ONGC (up by 2.99%), Wipro (up by 2.41%), Bajaj Finserv (up by 2.39%) and TCS (up by 2.84%) were amongst the top gainers of the day. On the other hand, Hero Moto Corp (down by 1.49%), Coal India (down by 1.48%), Asian Paints (down by 1.40%), Grasim (down by 1.25%) and Bajaj Auto (down by 0.86%) were amongst the leading laggards. Amongst broad market indices, Nifty next 50 closed in red, down by 1.09%. Nifty smallcap 100 dipped by 1.22%, while smallcap 250 shed 1.11% and smallcap 400 lost 1% during the day. Nifty microcap also closed the day in red, losing 1.04%. Infosys saw a 7.1% YoY rise in its net profit, taking it to Rs 6,368 crore. The company's revenue from operations also jumped up 3.6% YoY to reach Rs 39,315 crore. On the other hand, Persistent recorded $328.2 Million as revenue for Q1 FY25, witnessing a 16% YoY and 5.6% QoQ growth. As for Tata Communications, the company's Q1 net profit dipped 13% to reach Rs 333 crore. However, its revenue for the quarter was up 18%, at Rs 5,633 crore. <h2> Expert outlook</h2>Osho Krishan, Senior Analyst, Technical &amp; Derivatives, Angel One Ltd noted that the Indian equity market experienced a remarkably positive trading day, with the Nifty50 benchmark index reaching a new milestone of 24,800. Despite initial concerns caused by weak global cues, the market demonstrated resilience and confidence as the day progressed. The latter half of the session saw a strong upward movement, and the Nifty soared to settle at the 24,800 mark, securing a gain of 0.76% "As far as levels are concerned, the 24,500 is now expected to provide strong support, before which some cushioning to upcoming blips could be seen around the 24,650 subzones. On the higher end, it's challenging to anticipate the exact resistance zone, but achieving the milestone of 25,000 is now seen as a significant target for the bulls, especially in the context of the pre-budget rally", he continued. Aditya Gaggar Director of Progressive Shares noted extreme volatility in the morning trade today, as index swung on both sides. "On a sectoral front, media was the top loser by ending the day with a loss of over 3% followed by metal. Recovery was seen in the broader markets as well but not enough to outperform the frontline index as mid and smallcap shed by 0.96% &amp; 1.22% respectively. By engulfing the previous candle, the Index has formed a big green candle which implies a strong comeback of bulls and now the psychological level of 25,000 will be considered as an immediate hurdle while on the lower side, 24,500 will serve as strong support", he highlighted. As Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd notes, "Markets have been inching higher as expected, driven by rotational buying in heavyweight stocks. We are now eyeing the new milestone of 25,000 in the Nifty. However, the recent underperformance of the broader indices is tempering the overall buoyancy. Amid these mixed signals, we reiterate our recommendation to focus on stock selection and prefer hedged positions, given the anticipated rise in volatility due to the upcoming Union Budget and ongoing earnings season".

Notably, India's fast composite PMI recorded a slightly slower growth in September. This is the slowest rate of growth in 2024 for the manufacturing and service sectors," she said. "According to me, to remain globally competitive, the RBI needs to match the US Fed rate, which will create a significant difference between India's lending growth and the long-term FD rates," she added. Ambala emphasized the importance of the RBI's decision in maintaining India's global competitiveness, particularly in comparison to the US Federal Reserve's rates. She noted that any repo rate cut by the RBI could inject more liquidity into the economy, potentially spurring a bullish trend in the equity market and benefiting asset classes like real estate. "If the RBI chooses a REPO rate cut, it will inject more liquidity into the economy, likely fueling a bullish market trend. "The banking and NBFC sectors are already responding to the potential rate cut, and we may see a decline of 100-200 bps points in the next 1.5 years. Since the market has been resilient, I believe it will adapt quickly to these economic changes," Ambala added. Currently, major indices such as Nifty, Bank Nifty, Financial Services, Mid Cap 100, Mid Cap 150, Next 50, FMCG, Consumption, Metal, Infrastructure, and Auto are trading at all-time highs. Sectors like NBFCs, Realty, Infrastructure, and PSU stocks are expected to remain in focus as potential rate cuts could open up significant opportunities for mid-term investors. The Nifty closed above the key resistance of 25,600, signaling further upside potential toward the 25,900-26,000 range. However, traders should keep an eye on the short-term profit booking, as indicated by the formation of a Shooting Star-like candlestick pattern near the index’s all-time high. Immediate support for the Nifty stands at 25,500, with additional support levels at 25,300 and 25,120, according to technical analysts. Sensex @ 84k: With 1,359 pts gain, benchmark index settles above historic mark

Equity benchmarks ended higher on Tuesday mainly due to buying in index heavyweights Infosys and Reliance Industries amid foreign fund inflows. Also, firm trend in Asian gauges and record GST collection in April added to the optimism. Rallying for the eighth straight day, the 30-share BSE <keyword id="6484188" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sensex" source="Orion">Sensex</keyword> climbed 242.27 points or 0.40 per cent to settle at 61,354.71. During the day, it jumped 373.8 points or 0.61 per cent to 61,486.24. The broader NSE Nifty went up 82.65 points or 0.46 per cent to finish at 18,147.65. From the Sensex firms, Tech Mahindra, NTPC, Tata Steel, Maruti, Infosys, Power Grid, Larsen &amp; Toubro, Axis Bank, Titan, Reliance Industries, Wipro and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra were the biggest gainers. Sun Pharma, UltraTech Cement, Tata Motors, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj Finance, State Bank of India and Nestle were among the laggards. In Asian markets, Seoul, Japan, Shanghai and Hong Kong ended in the green. Equity markets in Europe were trading mostly lower. The US markets had ended marginally lower on Monday. GST collection in April rose by 12 per cent annually to over Rs 1.87 lakh crore, touching an all-time monthly high, showed finance ministry data released on Monday. Manufacturing activities in India accelerated further and touched a four-month high in April, boosted by robust new business growth, mild price pressures, better international sales, and improving supply-chain conditions, a monthly survey said on Monday. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were buyers on Friday as they bought equities worth Rs 3,304.32 crore, according to exchange data. Markets are now awaiting the US Federal Reserve's interest rate decision on Wednesday. Equity markets were closed on Monday on account of Maharashtra Day. The BSE benchmark had jumped 463.06 points or 0.76 per cent to settle at 61,112.44 on Friday. The Nifty had advanced 149.95 points or 0.84 per cent to finish at 18,065. Meanwhile, global oil benchmark Brent crude dipped 0.38 per cent to USD 79.03 per barrel.
