Pharma stocks have been on a roll over the past few days. Nifty Pharma index was trading 382.50 points higher, while the Nifty 50 index was up 44 points at 9:30 am. These were the top gainers in the Nifty Pharma pack: Lupin gained 7%, and Cipla was up 5% The shares of Lupin Limited gained 7%, and Cipla was trading 5% higher during the trade on September 18. The jump in the shares of the pharma companies came after its Irish-peer Perrigo voluntarily recalled albuterol inhalation. This development bodes well for Lupin and Cipla. Cipla launched gProventil in April this year, and Lupin’s gProAir is expected to be launched this month. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories gains 4% Dr.Reddy’s Laboratories was the third-largest gainer in the Nifty pharma pack, trading almost 4% higher. The company has announced a settlement of litigation with a unit of Bristol Myers Squibb related to patents for Revlimid (lenalidomide) capsules, used to treat various kinds of cancer. “We are pleased with the settlement agreement, and look forward to bringing a generic version of lenalidomide to market soon subject to regulatory approval for the benefit of patients,” Dr Reddy’s Laboratories North America Generics CEO Marc Kikuchi said. Other pharma stocks surge in trade as well Other pharma were also trading higher fueled by the rally in the pharma sector. Sun Pharma, Divi’s Laboratories, Aurobindo Pharma and Torrent Pharmaceuticals are all up over 2%. Top pharma stock movers — Lupin, Cipla, Dr Reddy’s steal the show

Indian markets looked very tentative on the first trading day after budget 2019 was announced. The recovery in the last hour of trade helped the Sensex and the Nifty close with gains, but the momentum came largely from the rebound in Reliance Industries in late trade. The gains in India's stock markets are underwhelming given the fact that global risk appetite has improved and Asian peers are near a four-month high. Companies that would benefit from higher demand, thanks to the many sops announced in the budget for the rural areas and the middle class, did not attract buyers. Stocks in the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), healthcare and auto stocks witnessed heavy selling pressure. "While the government's growth assumptions appear reasonable, we think the government will continue to face challenges in meeting its fiscal targets, primarily due to structural increases in spending and difficulties in raising revenue further," Gene Fang, from global ratings agency Moody's, reportedly said. There are others who also fear that the finance ministry may be underestimating the deficit- the excess of expenditure over the earnings. "Market is fearing a fiscal slippage because of various announcements in the Interim Budget, like the higher borrowing programs by the government," Rusmik Oza, Head-Fundamental Research, Kotak Securities, told IANS.  There could be many reasons for why the deficit may exceed the target. "the government's estimate of GST collection in FY19 is on the higher side. The nominal GDP growth rate of 11.5% is also difficult to achieve," Oza said. The capital expenditure for the next year is 6%, which is very low according to Oza. Spending less on capital expenditure means the government is investing less on assets that will generate income in the future. The Nifty50 index took nearly 6 months to gain 1,000 points, which is growth of 6.7% from the 15,000 level. So far in 2021, the benchmark index is up by over 14%. The Nifty200 index has also been positive overall, with two out of every three stocks registering an increase today. In the index, 132 stocks registered an increase and 67 stocks declined. One stock remained unchanged. Overall, the Nifty200 index was up by 1.26%, with the total volume crossing 1.9 billion. Vodafone Idea, Punjab National Bank and BHEL were amongst the top 10 stocks by volume to end the day in red. Indiabulls Housing trade 3% higher The shares of Indiabulls Housing gained 3% after the company said Brickwork Ratings has assigned a short-term rating of A1 plus to the company, signifying the adequate degree of safety and low credit risk. The rating agency has reaffirmed the long-term rating at AA-plus, suggesting a high degree of safety and very low credit risk, the company said in its regulatory filing. Lakshmi Vilas Bank locked in 10% upper circuit The shares of Lakshmi Vilas Bank were locked in a 10% upper circuit after the bank said the Clix Group have substantially completed the due diligence on a proposed amalgamation of the financial services company with the bank. In June, Lakshmi Vilas bank had signed a preliminary, non-binding letter of intent (LoI) with Clix Capital Services Private Limited and Clix Finance India Private Limited, collectively the Clix Group, in relation to the proposed amalgamation of Clix Group with the Bank. NMDC trades 4% higher The share price of National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) gained over 4% a day after the Karnataka Cabinet cleared the NMDC’s application to start mining operations at Donimalai following the intervention of Union Mines Minister, Prahlad Joshi.
