This funding has brought the retailer’s valuation at more than $1.1Billion.<br />
<br />
The round of capital infusion was led by GIC, which happens to be the largest sovereign wealth fund of Singapore. Existing investors of ShopClues.com, including major names like Tiger Global and Nexus Venture Partners, also participated in this funding round.<br />

“As a long-term investor, GIC believes in the strong growth potential of India's e-commerce industry. We are confident that ShopClues’ merchant-first mind-set and solid management team will enable the company to expand its reach, especially in the Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, bringing its unique value proposition to even more consumers and merchants,” said Ravi Balasubramanian, GIC’s Head of Asia Equities Research.<br />

Sanjay Sethi, CEO &amp; Co-founder of ShopClues, had his two cents to share on the same. “ShopClues has consistently demonstrated that hyper-growth and strong business fundamentals are not mutually exclusive. The recent addition of GIC and the continued strong support from our existing investors is a validation of our capital efficiency with a clear path to profitability. This investment will enable us to double our focus on digitizing our merchants’ businesses so that they scale to fully leverage the opportunity online commerce provides them.”<br />

The gross merchandise volume (GMV) of online retailer has grown over four time since January 2015. They are currently shipping out over 3.5 million items on a monthly basis, thereby attracting more than 100 million visits per month.<br />
<br />
The business growth, which is accompanied by strong improvements in capital efficiency, is expected to prove profitable by H1 2017.<br />
“Today, we are the dominant player in low price-point &amp; unstructured categories like lifestyle, home, kitchen, electronic &amp; automotive accessories etc. Our focus on selection, value and trusted shopping for Indian middle class consumers has given us tremendous scale with a rapidly growing buyer &amp; merchant network. We are confident that our capital efficiency &amp; execution will make this our last fund raise before we become profitable with the eventual IPO in 2017,” said Radhika Aggarwal, Co-founder and Chief Business Officer of ShopClues.<br />

The capital raised in this funding round will be used to focus on building and rolling out new products so that SME merchants can be enabled to digitize their businesses. It would also be used to further establish itself as the e-commerce operating system on the cloud. <br />

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Morgan Stanley's lead auto analyst, Adam Jonas, is now also being described the bank as a "shared mobility" researcher - a clear signal that among Wall Streeters, he's continuing his campaign to be the most out-there student of the disruption currently going on in the <keyword id="34991" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="transportation">transportation</keyword> business.</p><p>Jonas and his team cover General Motors, Ford, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Tesla, and rental car companies, among others. If Uber ever undertakes an IPO (perhaps with Morgan Stanley playing a role in, if not leading, the underwriting), then Jonas and his team will likely initiate coverage.</p><p>In the past few weeks, Jonas has unleashed a flurry of research, on Ford and FCA. He's also shared some comments on Intel's stunning $15-billion acquisition of Mobileye. It's important to see these</p><p>It's important not to see these notes in isolation, but rather as a part of an overall thesis that Jonas has been developing about the future of mobility. And while Jonas has focused a lot on how Tesla will change mobility, he more recently has honed in on the original equipment manufacturers or OEMs, which is the auto-industry term for the big car companies.</p><p>For the record, Jonas is bullish on Tesla (although not as bullish as he was about a year and a half year ago), cautious on Ford, and relatively bullish on FCA.</p><h2>All about the data</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>On Intel's acquisition of Mobileye, Jonas argued that the deal "highlights the strategic value of the global auto sector at a time of unprecedented disruption."</p><p>He added that "Tech firms are hunting for ever more data. Miles = data. The world's cars travel 10 trillion miles per year. First Harman… now MBLY? Who's next?"</p><p>Data derived from the operation of networked automobiles - driven by humans or driving themselves - has become an immense area of exploration for both traditional automakers and upstarts. Ford CEO Mark Fields, for example, has begun to describe the 100-plus-year-old firm as an information company.</p><p>The nexus has been sudden to develop and is currently not well understood, but no one wants to get left out. That's why Intel's move to buy Mobileye, an Israeli company that specializes in self-driving tech, and the Samsung-Harman deal that Jonas alluded to are noteworthy. Tech companies with zero transportation expertise are diving into the space so they can profit from large amounts of data.</p><p>Jonas' view here represents an expansion of a theme he's developed around Tesla and its efforts to participate in the massive, Uber-powered evolution of ride-hailing and "de-owned" shared mobility. Repeatedly, he and his team have stressed that miles driven could be a superior metric when it comes to transportation investment, overruling legacy measures such as vehicle sales: sell the car once, harvest the data for the life of the vehicle.</p><h2>Ford's good-bad bet?</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>In terms of the old-fashioned car business, Jonas is more worried about Ford than about FCA. His assessment is contradictory to the consensus of the industry itself, where FCA is considered most vulnerable to a downturn, encouraging CEO Sergio Marchionne to seek a merger partner (more on that later).</p><p>Jonas is concerned about Ford's finance operations, specifically as they relate to the changing dynamics of what consumers have been buying. This is from his note on the topic:</p><p>For many observers, Ford's performance over the past two years has been impressive, as it has sold a huge number of pickups and SUVs in the booming US market. However, Jonas may be onto something by reminding investors that Ford might have created a problem for itself back before and during the financial crisis, when its financing operations continued while competitors such as GM went bankrupt. </p><p>The bottom line is that the Ford bet on smaller cars was smart, but only for a short period of time. Fortunately for the automaker, when the market swung back to SUVs and gas got cheap again, the carmaker had trucks to sell. But smaller, more fuel-efficient cars might not play the same role in the automaker's future. </p><h2>FCA-VW merger</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>When it comes to the ongoing circus of speculation around a possible FCA-Volkswagen merger, Jonas thinks the deal would greatly assist FCA in getting into the high-tech game:</p><p><span>Jonas has basically crossed the Rubicon when it comes to the future of transportation: he and his team see disruptive investments as not just potentially lucrative, but as an opportunity to join a radical change in the way we get around. Architect Of JCPenney Logo Redesign Says His Work Isn't Why The Company Keeps Failing [THE BRIEF]

It's lost almost half its value in the last year, and almost two-thirds of its value since 2011.</p><p>Now everyone is buzzing that Cisco might buck up and buy its partner NetApp, which is the No. 5 storage vendor.</p><p>We've heard this Cisco-buying-NetApp scuttlebutt from multiple people in the last week.</p><p>People have been <a href="http://www.crn.com/news/networking/300078404/partners-dell-emc-deal-could-force-cisco-to-buy-storage-vendor.htm">talking about it</a> ever since Dell announced its plans to buy EMC last October. (And every few years, there's a new <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2012-12-17/cisco-seen-needing-citrix-to-netapp-for-growth-real-m-a">Cisco-buying-NetApp rumor.)</a></p><p>But we understand from people close to the company that such a deal isn't going to happen. Not now, not ever. </p><p>Cisco is aware of the all the talk and is being asked all the time, we hear from somebody close to the company. But the truth is Cisco's "focus is on emerging technologies in storage," and that the company is "looking forward instead of backward."</p><p>For the record, Cisco spokesperson Nigel Glennie declined comment, telling us, "We don't comment on rumors and speculation."  (We've reached out to NetApp as well and will update when we hear back.)</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Screenshot/YouTube</span></p><p class="caption">NetApp CEO George Kurian</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><h2>Why this rumor won't stop</h2><p>With a $6.9 billion market cap today, NetApp isn't terribly expensive for Cisco. (The joke in the industry, another person told us, was that Cisco just needs to wait another 3 months and NetApp would be even cheaper.)</p><p>NetApp is cheap because it "missed" the biggest opportunity in its industry, the shift to flash storage, another source told us. The company just finally bought a flash startup, SolidFire, in December.</p><p>But this is years after its competitors were snapping up flash vendors. NetApp paid dearly for it, too, spending <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/netapp-buys-solidfire-2015-12">$870 million in cash</a> on SolidFire. If Cisco bought NetApp it would gain SolidFire, as well as all of NetApp's <keyword id="6356323" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Enterprise">enterprise</keyword> storage customers.</p><p>Plus, Cisco needs storage technology.</p><p>The struggles in the storage industry come from a movement called "converged" and "hyperconverged" computing. That means that companies are buying their computers, networking, and storage all together as a bundle, Miki Sandorfi, a vice president at major storage player Hitachi Data Systems tells us.</p><p>Storage vendors who are just selling storage are struggling ...  from EMC to NetApp, Sandorfi says.</p><p>Meanwhile, some of the hot newer storage companies are also hurting. Pure Storage had a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/pure-storage-ipo-close-below-3-billion-2015-10">less-than-spectacular</a> IPO, <a href="https://www.google.com/finance?q=NYSE:NMBL">Nimble Storage is trading below $7</a> (from a year-ago high of $52), and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/violins-stock-is-nearly-worthless-as-it-looks-to-sell-2016-1">Violin Memory's stock </a>is now nearly worthless.</p><p>Cisco was one of the leaders of the "converged" computing market, with its UCS computers/networking/storage boxes. It originally partnered with EMC for the storage part, but <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/inside-the-1-billion-vmware-nicira-buy-2014-10">those companies don't like each other now.</a> Cisco is now partnering with everybody, including NetApp, IBM, Pure Storage.</p><p>But to really compete with HP and EMC/Dell, Cisco needs its own storage tech.</p><p>Cisco actually tried to build its own storage offering and that was a disaster. It bought a startup called Whiptail for $450 million in 2013, and after a couple of years the product still didn't work. One of new Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins'<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/cisco-killed-its-emc-killer-product-2015-7"> first acts was to kill the product and lay off the team.</a></p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Cisco Live/Business Insider</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><h2>Cisco is likely up to something in storage</h2><p>While an acquisition may seem obvious for Cisco, others are telling us that Cisco may be looking at an internal team to build an original product.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Cisco</span></p><p class="caption">Mario Mazzola</p></div><p></p></div></div>We're hearing that this new team may even involve the legendary triumvirate of engineers at Cisco known as "the heart, soul, and brains" of the company: Mario Mazzola, Prem Jain, and Luca Cafiero.</p><p>That team is currently running Cisco's all-important Insieme unit, which makes Cisco's flagship Nexus 9000 router and the software that allows <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/category/software-defined-networking">Cisco to compete in the "software defined networking" market </a>that threatens to upend its hold on the network equipment market.</p><p>Cisco has previously leaned on these engineers for its famous "spin-in" model. That's where Cisco bankrolls a startup staffed mostly with its own engineers.
