The session will take place between 6 pm and 7 pm. The trade modification window will close at 7:10 pm. A special pre-open session will also commence between 5:45 pm and 6:30 pm for IPO-bound stocks, while the closing session will take place between 7:10 pm and 7:20 pm. Many believe that trading at the start of the new Samvat or during the muhurat is auspicious since it heralds prosperity and financial well-being for the traders. Also, Hindus believe Diwali to be an opportune time to start anything new. The market will remain closed for regular trading on Diwali, which falls on Friday, i.e., November 1, 2024, this year. Before this muhurat trading session, a 15-minute pre-opening session will also take place between 5:45 pm and 6 pm. However, intraday traders and scalpers will have to exercise extra caution since all intraday positions will be automatically squared off 15 minutes before the market closes. Since the trading window is only open for an hour, markets will largely be volatile. The focus during such sessions is generally not on profitability but on the inherent gesture. Trading would take place across various segments like equity, commodity derivatives, currency derivatives, equity futures &amp; options, and securities lending &amp; borrowing (SLB) in the same time slot. Historically, these sessions have delivered positive returns for investors. Last year, the Sensex rose by 355 points during the muhurat trading session. Between 2014 and 2023, the Sensex had ended muhurat trading session in reds just twice, in 2017, where it dipped by 0.04%, and 2018, where it fell by 0.6%. But this positivity does not hold for the period that immediately follows the muhurat trading session, with data suggesting that Sensex has seen dips during 7 out of 11 such periods.

Say you create a trust for your children. The money in that trust and any funds that it generates aren't considered a marital asset. Soon after, they empty as some people <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-stay-motivated-to-keep-working-out-exercising-trainer-2021-12">lose their motivation to exercise</a>.Part of that has to do with the daunting idea of keeping up a new habit for a whole year. Starting in October instead, with three months left in the year, can feel more manageable. This is, of course, huge news for the underserved market of the Denchbench. (I assume that's the name of the Judi Dench stan-dom) who haven't yet found the right reason to experiment with an AI voice chatbot.For the rest of us, the logic behind Meta's celebrity collaboration is a little more perplexing.Around this time last year, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/meta-ai-chatbots-assistants-tom-brady-mr-beast-kendall-jenner-2023-9">Meta introduced a different round of celebrity AI assistants</a> as part of Messenger. These chatbots had the faces of celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Mr. Beast, Tom Brady, Snoop Dogg, and more. Strangely, these chatbots used the likenesses of the celebrities, but not their real names. For example, I chatted with "Billie," the character portrayed with an image of Kendall Jenner, whose chat persona was of a helpful sister-like friend.For the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/meta-paying-celebrity-faces-of-ai-chatbots-as-much-as-5-million-2023-10">celebrity-faced AI assistants, Meta reportedly paid as much as $5 million</a> over two years — for six hours of work sitting in a studio. The deal didn't seem to work out too well for Meta. The <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/meta-scraps-kendall-jenner-tom-brady-celebrity-ai-chatbots-2024-8">chatbots were discontinued</a> by August, less than a year after their launch.So why is Meta using the celebrity AI playbook again if it apparently crashed and burned last time?<h2 id="b5b28601-135c-4d5b-9c10-917b127344b6">Celebrities might help AI be less threatening</h2>Maybe last year's chatbots weren't a failure by some metrics. Sure, people didn't seem interested in sticking around talking to fake Tom Brady, but maybe the goal was to get enough people to try using an AI chatbot just one time — and the celebrity gimmick worked for that.Or maybe Meta just has a really strange relationship with the concept of celebrity: It's not a brand like Doritos that uses celebrities in Super Bowl ads or a fashion house where an actress is the face of a perfume. <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/instagram">Instagram</a> has been so embedded in the concept of fame and celebrity for the last decade that it's impossible to imagine Meta and famous people existing without each other (whereas I can imagine Doritos getting along just fine).When Meta's <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/threads-app">Threads</a> launched in the summer of 2023, a real tension appeared: Big, A-list celebrities — the kind who hadn't used Twitter in years — suddenly flocked to the new platform, bringing big follower counts with them. But most of those celebrities went silent after a day or two, perhaps realizing that a text-based medium wasn't really their jam. A few months later, Meta rolled out a program to give cash bonuses to reality stars in exchange for posting on Threads.When <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/taylor-swift-tortured-poets-department-album-reviews-critics-reviews-2024-4">Taylor Swift released her latest album</a>, she did post to Threads, where Mark Zuckerberg enthusiastically posted to welcome her. There was even a custom sparkle effect made for users when they typed her album name. But after Meta rolled out the welcome mat for the star, she never posted again on Threads.And recently, when Swift made her announcement supporting Kamala Harris, she did it only on Instagram — not even a cross-post to the platform's text-native cousin (for <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/taylor-swift-kamala-harris-instagram-twitter-elon-musk-2024-9">good reasons, as my colleague Peter Kafka explains</a>).There have been other flops in the celebrity-Meta-ad world. In 2019, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://mashable.com/article/facebook-portal-tv-ad-jennifer-lopez-kim-kardashian-west">Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez</a>, two celebrities whose endorsements usually aren't cheap, starred in three TV spots to promote the Facebook Portal. The <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/katienotopoulos/facebook-portal-rip-amazon">Portal was discontinued</a> in late 2022.<h2 id="f684fc34-9ed2-45f0-89eb-636509c56634">How celebrities can help Meta</h2>So, Meta relying on celebrity voices for its AI products feels a little odd to me. Meta's products are usually really good at selling themselves because people love to use them. Celebrities even use them — without getting paid!But reuniting the cast of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/whatsapp-modern-family-tv-ad-us-growth-2024-7">"Modern Family" for a WhatsApp ad</a> suggests Meta might be using celebs to reach normies who might not typically be using AI or <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/what-is-whatsapp-guide">WhatsApp</a>. And with these latest AI assistant voices, Meta is not going with the hottest Gen Z influencers; it's using Judi Dench, after all.I mean, at least Meta didn't "accidentally" <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/openai-scarlett-johansson-sam-altman-chatgpt-disaster-why-2024-5">hire a soundalike of a well-known celebrity to be the voice for an AI companion</a> like, uh, some other AI competitors. Could be worse!Perhaps it's just that AI is still a little scary and impersonal, and Meta execs think putting a celebrity face — or voice — to it will help make it feel more accessible. Oddly, the ability of AI to impersonate celebrities is one of the things I think many people fear about the technology. But, ah well.My final guess as to Meta's play here is that these decisions come from somewhere deep inside the company, perhaps a decision based on an executive's instinct about what will pop, mixed with some data from the marketing team. I'm sure many meetings were held!I still hold on to my personal pet theory: <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://ai.meta.com/people/396469589677838/yann-lecun/">Yann LeCun</a> is a frothing fan of "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" franchise and demanded the Dame.

Generally, markets don't see much trade or activity during this one-hour session, given that muhurat trading is largely symbolic. It stems from the Indian tradition of closing our annual financial accounts on the day of Diwali and then starting afresh with the upcoming new year. Investors look to make their first profitable transaction of the new year and believe that any new investments during this one-hour window will bring them long-term prosperity. Like with usual trades, settlement happens on a T+1 basis. Gaurav Garg, who heads the markets desk at Lemonn, a new-age <keyword id="20300872" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="stock-trading" source="keywords">stock trading</keyword> app, explains that retail investors usually make symbolic purchases of small quantities of stocks or invest in blue-chip stocks or large-cap stocks as part of their portfolio-building strategy during muhurat trading. "Here, it is less about immediate profits and more about its cultural and traditional aspects. The number of trades in this session also tends to be 20–30% lower, compared to a typical trading day, since institutional investors and high-frequency traders stay away from muhurat trading," he adds. <h2>How has the market performed during muhurat trading in the past?</h2>Much like us, the markets also put on a positive, festive outlook during this time. Data suggests that over 10 years, muhurat to muhurat returns, i.e., the performance of <keyword id="19896381" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty" source="keywords">Nifty</keyword> or <keyword id="19896382" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sensex" source="keywords">Sensex</keyword> from one Diwali muhurat to that of next year's, has averaged around 11-13%. In fact, in the past decade, the average gain during muhurat trading has been approximately 0.5% to 1% on major indices. Over the last 10 years, 8 out of 10 muhurat sessions have yielded positive returns for investors. In fact, four of these 8 sessions have delivered double-digit returns. Some of these outliers include 2021, i.e., at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, where Nifty’s muhurat-to-muhurat returns were a staggering 40.19%. Sensex closely followed suit with 37.65%. 2022 saw the returns from these indices slip into the reds, despite a positive muhurat day performance. Markets are moving in a narrower range, and returns are likely to be more modest than in the past. The focus now shifts to sectors that can provide steady, long-term growth. Financials remain a favourite, with banks, market intermediaries, and exchanges offering stability. The IT sector is also expected to recover as companies adapt to new technologies like generative AI". As markets enter a phase of correction, even IPOs, which have generated wild returns for some investors, may also cool off as investors become wearier. But, for those looking to get in the market in the long haul, experts note that this is a good opportunity to accumulate good-quality stocks.
