New car launches to look forward to in 2023

Hyundai is mulling to bring back its iconic car Santro, which had earned a huge presence in the Indian market and was phased out in the tail end of 2014. 
 
Santro, which was launched in 1998, had become a game changer for Hyundai back then as it had sold 13.6 lakh units in the domestic market and 5.35 lakh units in international market. 
 <keyword id="308405" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai-Santro">Hyundai Santro</keyword> posted around 1.9 million units of lifetime sales in the domestic and export markets in 16 year-run in India. 
 
Now, the Hyundai Motor India is all set it bring back but the project is under tight wraps. 
 ET quoted sources that the <keyword id="3355809" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-santro">new Santro</keyword> is under development in South Korea and will come to India in around two years. 
 
Sources told ET the present new Santro project was under tight wraps with vendor sources saying it was "too early to talk about". 
 
As per reports, the new Santro will take on its rivals such as Maruti. 
 
When Santro was phased out it sold nearly 2,500 units per month. Santro, which was globally known as the Hyundai Atos Prime, replaced it with i10 in most markets across the world in 2007.

The newly appointed, <keyword id="1374901" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Honda-Cars-India-Ltd">Honda Cars India Ltd</keyword>'s boss, <keyword id="2786761" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Katsushi-Inoue">Katsushi Inoue</keyword> is sure that his company would register profits in the country in coming days with the help of new launches, better capacity utilization and investment in some states. 

	In one of the very first interviews to the media after taking charge in April this year, Inoue told the Economic Times that his company had recorded profits last year after a gap of several years, which is a good sign. "We have just got into the black, and should be able to register profits this year - even if meager - as we are still in investment mode," said Inoue, who had visited India 20 times, right from the days when <keyword id="43041" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Maruti-800">Maruti 800</keyword> and <keyword id="596" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Hyundai">Hyundai</keyword> Santro blazed the streets. Inoue further said he is focused on selling three lakh units, and set up a new factory in Gujarat that would make strong foundation for <keyword id="20630" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Honda">Honda</keyword> in India. He also stressed that he would try to optimize the 3-lakh unit plant capacity in Greater Noida and Rajasthan in the next two to three years. He said the Indian company will eventually become a manufacturing base for exports to <keyword id="12925" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Africa">Africa</keyword>. "Yes, India can become a key base for exports to Africa, as our completely built exports are not that big. However, we don't have enough capacity to serve the global markets yet, and there's still a big potential for India to grow," Inoue said. 

	The current capacity in India is just enough to cater to the domestic demand, but once the new plant in Gujarat is up and running, Honda will have spare capacity to cater to foreign markets, he said. 
	 

	Honda Cars India grew 41% till March '15, and with new models lined up for launch, he is confident that the carmaker's "growth momentum" would continue. 
	 

	The new Jazz premium hatchback will be launched in the next 4-8 weeks before the company enters the lucrative compact SUV space next year, based on its popular Brio platform. Inoue, who sees the large population of youth in India as the "biggest sweet spot and opportunity", said Honda will introduce models which will meet the needs of today's youth and expects the new Jazz to serve this purpose. 
	 

	He, however, said Honda is yet to take a call on a small car for India. "We have no concrete plans for India as yet," he said. For Honda, Brio could be the entry model for the "near future", and whether the company needs something in the lower price segment than Brio is something they have to decide.

Hyundai nears 25 years of success in India — here’s how this carmaker crossed the 9 million-mark, beating peers like Mahindra and Tata Motors

New Delhi, Feb 1 () Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) on Saturday reported a 3.37 per cent decline in total sales at 52,002 units in January.
 The company had sold 53,813 units in the same month last year, HMIL said in a statement.
 Domestic sales were down 8.3 per cent to 42,002 units as against 45,803 units in January 2019, the company added.
 The company also said that it has commenced bookings for BSVI versions of Elite i20, Venue and Grand i10.
 Hyundai has already initiated sale of BSVI compliant Nios, Elantra, Santro and the newly launched Aura compact sedan. MSS ANS

According to <keyword id="1370385" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yadvinder-Singh-Guleria">Yadvinder Singh Guleria</keyword>, Director, Sales and Marketing, HMSI, ease in Covid restrictions, current stock levels at the dealerships and <keyword id="9948494" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="high-customer-enquiries">high customer enquiries</keyword> have bolstered the recovery prospects. The two-wheeler giant had reported a growth of just 1 per cent in <keyword id="9948496" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="domestic-sales-last-month">domestic sales last month</keyword> on a year-on-year basis. Accordingly, the company's total sales during August stood at 4,43,969 units, including 4,28,231 domestic off-take and 15,738 exports. Sequentially, <keyword id="20630" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Honda">Honda</keyword>'s sales grew by a significant 38 per cent in August comp ared to July. "We are optimistic for September. However, factors like rising Covid cases per day, persistence of some local lockdowns and the inauspicious period in September can not be ignored," he told IANS. "On the other hand, 95 per cent of our network is back, we have witnessed rising number of enquiries about new products, in some cases 75 per cent more test rides have taken place on a fortnightly basis and then there is the pent-up demand factor as well." Traditionally, sales momentum has slowed down during the astrologically inauspicious time period of 'Shradh' as customers postpone their buying decision. Interestingly, after 160 years, this inauspicious time period is followed by a 'gap month' in astrological calendar, that is delaying the onset of festive season. These notions and traditions are highly believed and followed in rural India, which is also a base for two-wheeler consumption. Nonetheless, Guleria cited the urban base of the company as a major contributor to its overall growth. "We have a significant presence in urban areas. Now, we are also see ing some 'green shoots' in urban demand as the pandemic spreads to semi rural areas and the hinterland," he said during the interaction. "Southern region has boosted our prospects. We have a healthy traction in this region. Overall, rural sales will continue to be a major contributor to our sales as healthy monsoon rains, higher crop output and support pr ices will bolster buying sentiment." On the upcoming festive season, he said the two-wheeler major was now confident of achieving healthy sales level during this period. "There will be pent-up demand and customers will be attracted to new offerings, we are now working with our dealers to prepare ahead to meet this demand," he said. "Production and dispatches levels are optimal but you really do not want to overstock during these uncertain times." The company has a line-up of 14 models including its latest motorcycle Hornet 2.0 dispatched for the festive season. In terms of new offerings, Guleria cited that recently launched motorcycles h ave reached dealerships and received healthy response. "We have witnessed this shift towards personal mobility due to Covid. This shift is not entirely towards purchase of cars but the demand trajectory is for two-wheelers," he explained. "We have also witnessed that customers' fear factor has gone down and the enquiries rate has increased. All these combined will give a healthy push during the festive season." Honda two-wheeler sees healthy September dispatches —management is betting on festive season sales to maintain momentum

These are the deep discounts on offer on different car models – but they might have failed to lure buyers

Within the Passenger Vehicles (cars, UV’s/SUV’s,and vans), the sales for Passenger Cars, Utility Vehicle &amp; Vans declined by 22.98%, 6.15% and 28.57% respectively in April-May 2019, compared to the same period last year. The data showed a downfall of 21% in the sale of passenger vehicles in May, 2019 from 300,000 units to 239,000 units in the same month in 2018. As per <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/passenger-vehicle-sales-decline-most-in-18-yrs/articleshow/69749043.cms">experts </a>, different factors may be contributing to this lowering trend in <keyword id="47168" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Car-sales">car sales</keyword>. First being the declining health of the Indian economy. The GDP growth figure for the third quarter of FY19 was merely 6.6% — the lowest in five quarters. This can be a worrying situation for the government as well, because private consumption has been a strong pillar of India’s growth story, which is now slumping. The introduction of the new BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) emissions regulations from 1 April 2020, new technology will be needed to keep emissions in check, in particular for new diesel engine vehicles. These new add-ons are said to increase the prices of diesel cars even further and increase the gap between a new petrol car and a new diesel car by nearly ₹250,000.

The company currently has a capacity of over six lakh units which can be hiked to 7.2 lakh units. While Hyundai might not look at a new location, it’ll bump up its production in phases beginning this year as well as in 2017 and 2018.
