According to a survey by Monster.com, in the last six months hiring in these two cities went up by 11% and 5% respectively. There has been a tectonic shift in job growth geographically too. "Tier 2 cities led the demand, sectors like retail, telecom, and professions, including hospitality and travel and finance and accounting. There are certain sectors including agro-based industries, automotive and consumer goods and FMCG that need attention to revive demand," said Krish Seshadri, CEO, APAC &amp; Gulf – Monster.com Both Mumbai and Bangalore grew at 0% and 1% respectively in the first half of 2019, the report said. Kochi and Chennai too have fewer jobs as hiring de-grew by 1% each. Chandigarh however tops the list with 7% de-growth, as per online hiring demand that jobs portal that Monster observed. Hiring in cities like Delhi and Hyderabad grew by 3% percent, and Bangalore was at 1%. Overall however the online hiring went up. "The online hiring demand has witnessed a 16% increase between the first half of 2018 and 2019,” Krish Seshadri, CEO of APAC and Gulf – Monster.com said. As many as 27 sectors in India including automobile, agriculture industry, the consumer goods industry are affected by slowdown with metros bearing most of the brunt. The worst however is the agriculture industry saw a steep decline of 51% in hiring between January and June 2019. However, the telecom industry which is looking forward to growth in 5G, has registered a healthy 22% growth. But it is retail which topped the list with 27%.

When it comes to the economies growth, the year 2013 was not the best year for India. Most would like to forget the slow year quickly to concentrate on the future and brighter 2014.  The IT, BPO and Banking sectors picked up as the year passed and contributed largely to the job cycle. <keyword id="66" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Delhi">Delhi</keyword> emerged as the leading city with maximum jobs created in 2013 followed by, Bangalore and Mumbai. In Delhi a lot of jobs were created in the Media and Auto industry as well. 
 
As far as the tier 2 cities were concerned, Ahemdabad is leading the charge followed by Indore and Jaipur. Together these 3 cities offered around 2.5 lakh jobs. Pharmaceuticals and BPO sectors had the most to offer in these cities. 
 New Delhi leads the charge once again when it came to jobs being offered to a <keyword id="25658" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="fresher">fresher</keyword>. As much as 10,000 new placements were done last year in various sectors. Bangalore and Mumbai were not too far behind. 
 
Looking at this report the figures do state that there were decent amount of jobs being generated last year. However, if we compare the percentage of population growth in the country the gap seems to be large. The challenge of generating more jobs is in front of the government as well. People are hopeful that more public jobs will be created after the nationwide elections of 2014.

Even With The Slowdown In India, There Were A Lot Of Job

<ul><li>Retail and Fast Moving Consumer Goods &amp; Durables (FMCG&amp;D) sector is expected to add nearly 2.76 lakh new jobs. </li><li>Retail sector alone will be creating 33,310 new jobs for freshers across cities. </li><li>Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai are the top cities creating employment in the Retail and FMCG sector. </li><li>The job creation by retail and FMCG/D will witness a 15.11% and 10.31% growth respectively.</li></ul>India’s Retail and Fast Moving Consumer Goods &amp; Durables (FMCG&amp;D) sector is expected to add nearly 2.76 lakh new jobs in the market, according to the Employment Outlook Report by TeamLease. According per the report, the retail sector will add 1.66 lakh new jobs adding 2% to the net employment in the April to September quarter of 2019-20. The consumer goods sector will create 1.10 lakh new jobs — which is expected to accelerate fresher hiring across the country. Overall, 17% of net new jobs to be added between April and September is earmarked for fresher hirings. “Not only experienced talent seems to benefit from the optimism in these sectors; it will see a positive impact on fresher hiring as well. Retail sector alone will be creating 33,310 new fresh graduates jobs across cities,” said Mayur Saraswat, Head of Digital &amp; IT, Teamlease Services. Delhi and Bangalore will see the most number of jobs in the retail sector by adding 27,560 and 22,770 jobs, respectively. This rise in jobs can be attributed to the major acquisitions and foreign entrants in the Indian market. In the FMCG market, food joints and new FDI norms have pushed for more opportunities with Mumbai and Delhi creating most jobs (25,570). Consumer goods company <keyword id="6365619" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="hindustan-unilever">Hindustan Unilever</keyword> <a href="https://www.livemint.com/industry/retail/fmcg-firms-may-see-pick-up-in-demand-later-this-year-report-1560796948484.html">reportedly</a> witnessed 7% growth in sales volume, which is the company’s lowest in six quarters, while <keyword id="6373748" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="dabur-india">Dabur India</keyword> 4.3% sales growth. “Apart from government interventions like easing of FDI norms, expansions by the domestic players, the increase in domestic consumption will also create more jobs. The job creation by Retail and FMCD/ G will witness a 15.11% and 10.31% growth respectively,” Saraswat added. The TeamLease report surveyed 19 sectors and 14 geographies, conducting analysis on 775 enterprises in India to understand the employment across sectors. There may be 33,000 vacancies for freshers in India's retail and FMCG sector

As of today, about a million employees are at the brink of job loss in the auto sector, and many more are already unemployed. But it’s not just the lack of avenues to seek jobs that’s causing the crisis. There is also lack of awareness, preparedness, skills, training and, of course, opportunity. As many as 92% of Indian youth are unaware of online placement services, according to a new survey launched at the 6th Annual edition of India Education Entrepreneurship Day (IEED) 2019 hosted by TiE Delhi-NCR in New Delhi. The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) is a non-profit organisation devoted to entrepreneurs in all industries, at all stages, from incubation, throughout the entrepreneurial lifecycle. "TiE's mission has always been to gather major ecosystem stakeholders under one roof with the overarching aim of driving the country towards a progressive future," said Geetika Dayal, Executive Director, TiE Delhi-NCR, who hosted the event. The problem begins right from the point of getting the facts right. According to Sabina Dewan, President &amp; Executive Director, Just Jobs Network, over 12 million people enter the labour force in India every year while the data <a href="http://www.newindianexpress.com/nation/2018/may/22/only-475-million-join-workforce-annually-in-india-not-12-million-as-claimed-1817846.html">shows actual numbers to be less than 5 million</a>. The youth unemployment rate in India is three times that of the overall unemployment, according to the survey. “Our objective is to bring some of the pressing challenges in the Indian education and employment ecosystem to the notice of policy-makers, market participants, and other key stakeholders,” said Rahil Rangwala, Program Director, Michael &amp; Susan Dell Foundation, a non-profit organisation that works on training poor children in underdeveloped countries for future employment. The organisation was set by the founder of Dell in 1999. Further, about 56% of the respondents asserted that their education and/or vocational training was inadequate to improve their prospects of landing a better, high-value job. “Most people believe that obtaining a three-month-long training or skilling session will compensate for years of education and experience. This is preposterous. Education and skill development need to be considered in a continuum.”said Dewan. It also revealed that 38% of young professionals surveyed want to pursue entrepreneurship. On the other hand, 88% of respondents think they lack a technical diploma or certificate.

The many pain points exposed by India’s jobs crisis

<ul><li>The financial services sector will ramp up hiring in the first half of this fiscal — adding 47,800 job roles. </li><li>Of this, 10,800 jobs will be located in Delhi and Mumbai. </li><li>The top roles for the hiring will be engineering, marketing, office services and blue collar jobs.</li></ul>The financial services sector is likely to ramp up hiring across the country, bringing in good tidings to scores of job seekers. According to a recent survey by TeamLease Services, the financial services sector will add nearly <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/jobs/financial-services-to-add-47800-new-jobs-in-apr-sept-fy20/articleshow/69759515.cms?from=mdr">47,800 new </a>jobs in the first half of 2019-20. The ‘Employee Outlook for April to September’ noted that opportunities will be open across functionalities like engineering (accounting for over 5% of total jobs), marketing, office services and blue collar jobs. However, sales and IT segments will not see a positive hiring curve. Nearly 10,800 of these job opportunities will be located in <a href="https://www.asianage.com/business/in-other-news/130619/financial-services-to-add-47800-new-jobs-in-april-sept-fy20.html">Delhi and Mumbai</a>, the survey said. The increase in hiring may be due to growing digitization in banks, thereby creating new roles. Financial services companies and banks will hire freshers and also fill up mid-level roles. While mid-level recruitment is expected to grow by 4%, the industry will also witness a 3% increase in entry-level employees. The number of jobs at mid-sized companies will grow at 5%, while large enterprises will remain steady at 2%. The survey was conducted across 19 verticals and 960 enterprises and businesses. Hiring in the services sector is expected to be higher as compared to others like FMCG, IT and real estate. Hiring in the Southern region might be higher than the country average, as 14% of companies in the region are expected to hire, according to Manpower Group. Financial services sector to add 47,800 new jobs — Delhi, Mumbai top locations

A survey from JobBuzz, conducted on professionals working in new ventures, has shown that 88% of these professionals are ready to leave their current jobs in startups if they are offered jobs in more established companies. This means that only 12% respondents felt content with their work profiles in current startups. 
 
The survey findings point at an impending attrition problem that startups could face in the near future as they seek to scale. 
 
“Today’s talent is no longer lured by just fat paychecks. They are looking at long-term career growth and are careful when choosing their employers. The recent spate of retrenchments have deeply affected the very important and high-engagement sense of ownership and belonging that young professionals felt when they joined these start-ups," says Vivek Madhukar, COO, TimesJobs.com. 
 
“Those joining startups must have that sense of passion and ownership to make the company grow. If they want to switch, as the survey shows, startups need to have a relook at their hiring strategy so they pick people who share the vision of the founders and feel themselves part of the company’s growth story,” adds Madhukar. 
 
Over 750 professionals working in different new ventures across the startup hotbeds of Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Gurgaon, Delhi and Noida took part in the survey. 
 
When asked why they were thinking of quitting their startup jobs, 43% felt they would be able to draw higher salaries in established companies. But a significant 30% said it was due to the nature of their jobs in startups as they were unable to maintain work-life balance. 
Interestingly, the fear of the startup not taking off properly and employees losing their jobs was not reported to be a major concern. Only 15% survey respondents admitted that they wanted to switch to an established company to seek better job security. 
 
But ennui appears to have set in among employees who have been in these startups for at least one year and more. Nearly 65% of them said they would readily switch to an established player if they got the opportunity. 
 
Nearly 58% employees in IT, internet, dotcom, consulting and retail startups, who answered the JobBuzz.in survey, said they wanted to move to bigger companies. The discontent appears widespread among both junior and senior-level professionals, 75% of whom wanted to move to bigger companies. 
 
However, respondents felt that their startup stints had started off with a lot of passion. 
 
When asked why they took up a startup job in the first place, 54% said it was because of the thrill of working in a new venture. Only 23% had taken up the jobs for higher salary while 20% were looking for a flexible work culture – a major pull for Gen Y and Z today. 
On the concerns they had before they joined startups, most survey respondents said it was the risk of the venture failing (63%) and the pressure of taking up multiple roles (29%). 
 
HR leaders from large companies, speaking at various TimesJobs.com boardroom discussions, have said that startups pulling in talent has become a hiring challenge for them. But some also pointed towards increasing cases of burnout among employees as the new ventures scaled and thus the increasing urge to leave for established companies.
