<keyword id="154150" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="New-Delhi-Railway-station">New Delhi railway station</keyword>, which happens to be the busiest railway stations in India with a daily account of around 300 stations and 5 lakh passengers, is about to get updated to an altogether different level. 
 Starting today, <keyword id="6358777" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="New-Delhi">New Delhi</keyword> railway station will be giving its commuters free <keyword id="47655" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Wi-Fi">Wi-Fi</keyword> service for the first half hour, and a minimal amount would be charged for prolonged use. The service will be implemented and managed by Rail Tel, which is a railway PSU in the field of telecom infrastructure. 
 
Talking about the charges after the free half-hour usage, commuters would have to spend Rs 25 for 30 minutes and Rs 35 for an hour for buying extra time; this would be valid for 24 hours. This extra time can either be purchased online using credit cards, or by visiting Wi-Fi help desks for buying scratch cards. These help desks are set up at Paharganj and Ajmeri Gate sides of the station. 
 
After the initial run at New Delhi Railway Station, other railway stations in the city would also be given the service. 
 
However, the good news is that this service is not going to be exclusively for Delhiites. Indian Railways has decided to start this service at 400 stations across the country. The work is in progress for 75 'A1' category stations, which includes: Dadar, CST, Thane, Chennai Central and Trivandrum Central. Sources report that these stations would be covered in the coming 12 months, after which the process to cover A category stations would be started. Trial projects would be started at Agra, Ahmedabad and Varanasi by the end of this month, after which Howrah, CST and Secunderabad projects would be taken up. 
 
Coming back to the Wi-Fi service at the New Delhi railway station; it has cost the government a hefty amount of Rs 50 lakh, and an annual charge of Rs 16 lakh would be spent for maintaining the project.

Valentino opens its new boutique in New Delhi

The stock gained 7.12 per cent to Rs 259.50 on the <keyword id="35140" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bse" source="Orion">BSE</keyword>. At the NSE, it rallied 7.61 per cent to Rs 260.60. Biocon on Tuesday said its consolidated net profit increased 31 per cent to Rs 313 crore for the March quarter on the back of robust sales. The company had reported a net profit of Rs 239 crore in January-March 2021-22. Total revenue increased to Rs 3,929 crore in the fourth quarter as against Rs 2,476 crore in the year-ago period, Biocon said in a statement. For the year ended March 31, 2023, the company reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 463 crore as against Rs 648 crore in 2021-22. Total revenue, however, increased to Rs 11,550 crore as compared with Rs 8,397 crore in FY22. On June 22, <keyword id="19956758" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Finance-Minister" source="keywords">Finance Minister</keyword> Nirmala Sitharaman said that the next meeting of the GST Council will take place in mid to late August. The aim of this meeting will be to discuss the pending issues of the last meeting. The council is expected to discuss rate rationalisation and compliance, among others. The GST Council, consisting of the Union Finance Minister and representatives from all States and Union Territories, was established to make decisions on various aspects of GST, including <keyword id="20452955" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tax-rates" source="keywords">tax rates</keyword>, exemptions, and administrative procedures. It played a crucial role in shaping the GST framework in India. The last meeting of the GST Council was held on 22 June 2024 this year. During the meeting, the council recommended relaxation to taxation, Input Tax Credit (ITC) claims and demand notices. The GST Council proposes exemptions for specific services offered by Indian Railways to the general public, as well as for intra-railway transactions. The sale of platform tickets and services such as retiring rooms, waiting rooms, cloakroom facilities, and battery-operated car services are now exempt from GST. To curb government litigation, the Council has recommended setting monetary thresholds for filing appeals by departments: Rs 20 lakh for the GST appellate tribunal, Rs 1 crore for high courts, and Rs 2 crore for the Supreme Court. In a move to assist small taxpayers, the Council, in its last meeting, extended the deadline for furnishing returns from April 30 to June 30 for the fiscal year 2024-25 and subsequent years. The Council, in its last meeting, recommended the phased rollout of biometric-based Aadhaar authentication for GST registration applicants across India. The Council recommended a uniform GST rate of 12 per cent on all milk cans, regardless of their material (steel, iron, or aluminium), to eliminate disputes. The Finance Minister, during the last GST meeting, reiterated the central government's intent to bring petrol and diesel under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) framework. She highlighted that the groundwork for this inclusion was laid during the initial implementation of GST and emphasized that the decision now lies with the state governments. The central government has long maintained that incorporating petrol and diesel into GST would streamline tax rates and potentially reduce prices for consumers.

54th GST Council meeting to take place on September 9 in New Delhi

<keyword id="6354552" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="hyderabad">Hyderabad</keyword> has emerged as the best city in terms of living standards among Indian cities three years in a row, while Vienna has been ranked at the top globally in a list by consultancy firm Mercer. The National Capital for the second straight year hit the lowest score among Indian cities for living standards, as per the Mercer's Quality of Living rankings 2017. Both Hyderabad and Pune ranked higher for quality of living than the country's traditional business centres Mumbai and <keyword id="6358777" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="New-Delhi">New Delhi</keyword>, which have been ranked at 154 and 161, respectively, by the report. However, Hyderabad fell by five places to 144 in this year's rankings from 139th rank last year due to decreased power supply and water availability. While New Delhi scored well on account of its airport facility, availability of international schools and low probability of natural disasters, these positives were offset by a variety of negatives including a 'notorious' crime rate, air pollution and water availability, the report said. "Delhi continues to be challenged with increasing air pollution, owing to growing traffic and industrialisation. Delhi's air is the worst among world megacities, even the World Health Organisation confirmed recently. Unfortunately, there has been no improvement in air quality," Ruchika Pal, Principal and <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> Practice Leader, Global Mobility, said. Over time, cities like Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai have emerged as cities of choice due to factors such as relatively lower crime rate, lesser air pollution and improved options for international and reputable English speaking schools. Pal noted that Indian cities that have been part of the survey have not made much progress on the quality of living scale since last year. The only exception is Chennai, whose score has marginally improved mainly on account of public transport, including buses and a recently expanded two¬line metro system, and improved availability of expat housing. Globally, Vienna remained at the top for overall quality of living for the eighth year running, with the rest of the top-ten list mostly filled by European cities. European cities in the top ten list are: Zurich (2) Munich (4), Dusseldorf (6), Frankfurt (7), Geneva (8), Copenhagen (9) and Basel ¬¬ a newcomer ¬¬ at 10th place. The only non¬European cities in the top ten are Auckland (3) and Vancouver (5). The highest ranking cities in Asia and Latin America are Singapore (25) and Montevideo (79), respectively, it said. Mercer's survey also includes a city infrastructure ranking that assesses each city's supply of electricity, drinking water, telephone and mail services, and public transportation as well as traffic congestion and the range of international flights available from local airports. Singapore topped the city infrastructure ranking, followed by Frankfurt and Munich both in 2nd place, while on the other hand Baghdad (230) and Port au Prince (231) ranked at the bottom for city infrastructure. Amongst Indian cities, Mumbai is ranked the highest at 141, followed by Kolkata (149) and Pune (151), while Bangalore was rated the lowest (177) by the report.

Today that service, called the ‘Mobile Sahayak’, has gone live and can aid with 40 government services, 35 of which are already online. The Mobile Sahayak program is designed by the government in partnership with <keyword id="348995" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="VFS-Global">VFS Global</keyword>. Inaugurated today by the city’s chief minister, <keyword id="260213" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword>, it’s basically a system that consists of a call center, human capital assisting as sahayaks or helpers, a mobile portal, and biometric devices. It’s not even that expensive - it comes at a nominal fee of ₹50 (70 cents) for a home visit Some services that can be availed through the program are driving licence applications, passport help, caste certificates, income certificates, ration card, How does it work? All citizens have to do is call 1076, where a call center executive will ask how they can be of assistance. In case there’s a document missing, a Mobile Sahayak will be appointed for the service who will go the citizens home to collect the same at a predetermined time. Whatever is needed, will be fed into the Mobile Sahayak mobile portal and verified through biometric authentication. Citizens can pay using cash or if the service is provided online, then payments can be made through the government’s payment gateway. Citizens can keep tabs on their application through the unique reference ID that the sahayak will share through a receipt via SMS or email. That means, in case you’ve submitted physical documents, then there will be a record of that on the receipt. Doorstep delivery of service entails that for some, citizens may never even have to go to the respective government office and for others, it would improve the time efficiency to just one visit. <keyword id="6358777" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="New-Delhi">NEW DELHI</keyword>: The Delhi government told the Supreme Court that BSES companies of <keyword id="10926" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Reliance">Reliance</keyword> Infrastructure were “inefficient” as they had defaulted on their dues to NTPC and other <keyword id="44578" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="electricity">electricity</keyword> suppliers, unlike the Tata group’s distribution arm that had promptly paid. 
 
“These two companies owe Rs 4,500 crore. My concern is outages. You cannot take electricity and not pay for it. At the end of the day the Tatas are paying, why can’t (BSES) Rajdhani? Both are working in the same regulatory regime,” Additional Solicitor General Siddharth Luthra told a two-judge bench hearing the case. The two Reliance companies have been locked in a bitter stand-off with the generating companies over arrears. They claim that the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has failed to provide adequate tariffs that can cover costs and give reasonable returns. 
 
BSES lawyer Mukul Rohatgi claimed on Wednesday that the dues outstanding to the two companies are around .`15,000 cr. The company has cited this outstanding amount as the reason why it could not pay generating companies any more money till it recovered some part of the dues. Power major NTPC has earlier threatened to cut off powers to BSES if the stalemate continued. 
 
At the last hearing, the bench asked NTPC to desist from doing any such thing in “consumer” interest and asked BSES to pay a sum of.`700 crore due from the beginning of the 2014. 
 
On Wednesday, when the bench reconvened, BSES and the power generating companies again traded charges over non-payment of dues. While NTPC insisted that no dues have been paid since the last court hearing and suggested “power regulation” to deal with the problem, a euphemism for power cuts, BSES claimed it had paid.`601 crore so far. Senior advocate KK Venugopal claimed that NTPC had in turn to pay Coal India and non-payment by BSES was having a “cascading effect” all around. 
 
“He is the biggest industrialist in the country,” Venugopal stated. Rohatgi countered this. “I am owed Rs15,000 crore, and I am termed inefficient!” The bench then adjourned the case till Tue dayto allow both sides to sort out the issue of payment of current dues, but not before the DERC, through senior advocate Meet Malhotra, had similarly accused BSES of being “inefficient” and “financially indisciplined”. 
 
Malhotra claimed that there were major variations in figures in audited statements made earlier and now, adding a CAG audit would help uncover the facts. The previous arrears may accordingly have to be downgraded, he said. 
 
The DERC has in a roadmap for recovery of dues suggested an 8per cent surcharge to recover these over a period. Any adjustments will bring down the recovery period. He also accused BSES of not infusing enough equity to instill enough confidence in banks to loan them amounts necessary to pay back power generating companies. 
 
“It is evident that the current financial position could have been avoided by infusion of requisite equity from time to time by BYPL,” he told Justices SS Nijjar and AK Sikri who are hearing the case. The discoms accuse the state and the central governments of failing to bail them out by subsidising their costs as done in other states.
