The board had also called off the Class X and Class XII exams in the violence-hit Northeast Delhi — that were supposed to take place in the last week of February. On May 5, the Ministry announced the new dates for the competitive exams — JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Mains and NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). The JEE Mains exam is now scheduled between July 19 and July 23, while NEET entrance will be held on July 26, 2020. Meanwhile, the evaluation work was also put on hold during this time. On similar lines, the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad also halted the marksheet evaluation process of class 10th and 12th board exams in the wake of coronavirus — after several teachers refused to show up at the evaluation centres. CBSE class 10 and class 12 exams scheduled from July 1

More than 12,000 people in <keyword id="6357713" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh" source="Orion">Uttar Pradesh</keyword>'s <keyword id="576481" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Firozabad-district" source="Orion">Firozabad district</keyword> are suffering from <keyword id="6398743" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="viral-fever" source="Orion">viral fever</keyword>, according to the state health department officials. Four more deaths have been reported from the district in the past 24 hours, taking the toll to 114 that includes 88 children. The deaths have continued despite widespread fogging and door-to-door surveys to drain out stagnant water and to check the spread of vector-borne diseases. <keyword id="12080003" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="veer-pal" source="Orion">Veer Pal</keyword>, a daily wager, who lost his five-year-old son due to lack of treatment on Sunday, told reporters, that a private hospital in the city had demanded Rs 30,000 in advance to start treatment. Later, I took my child to the <keyword id="3849448" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="firozabad-medical-college" source="Orion">Firozabad Medical College</keyword>, where staff refused to admit my child as beds were not available. I arranged for a private taxi to take him to Agra, but my son died on the way," he said. Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of Firozabad Medical College, Hansraj Singh, said that no official complaint was made in the matter. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dinesh Kumar Premi said there are 64 active camps in the district and 4,800 people, including those with fever, are undergoing treatment there. According to the health department officials, 578 cases of dengue have been confirmed in Firozabad so far. A few cases of malaria, scrub typhus - a bacterial illness spread by larval mites, leptospirosis, another bacterial disease spread through the urine of infected animals, have also been reported. Diarrhoea has also emerged as a threat for children. Additional Director of the health department, A.K. Singh, said that over 100 teams of health staff are conducting door-to-door surveys to identify patients and provide them with medicines and required assistance. "There is no shortage of platelets or required medicines at the government centres. Additional ambulances have been arranged to take patients to hospital," he asserted. "Civic body teams are carrying out special cleanliness drives in the affected areas and all the recent deaths are being investigated," Singh added. (Eds: Updating with additional details ) New Delhi, May 18 () The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Monday announced the date sheet for the pending class 10 and 12 board exams, which will now be held from July 1-15 with strict distancing norms in place.The exams were postponed due to the nationwide lockdown imposed on March 25 to contain the spread of COVID-19. While class 12 exams will be conducted across the country, the class 10 exams are only pending in North East Delhi, where they could not be held due to the law and order situation in the wake of protests against the amended citizenship act. "The class 10 exams will be staggered on four dates, starting July 1. The first paper will be of Social Sciences, while the next day students will be required to appear in Science exam," CBSE Controller of Examination Sanyam Bhardwaj said. "On July 10, exams will be conducted for both courses of Hindi, and on July 15 for both courses of English," he said. On health guidelines for students, Bhardwaj said, they will be required to carry own sanitiser bottles and wear mask to their examination centres. "Parents will have to ensure their ward is not sick and candidates will have to strictly follow physical-distancing norms," he said. The class 12 date sheet has two sections -- one for exams in Northeast Delhi and the other for exams across the country. In North East Delhi, Physics exam will be held on July 3, Accountancy (July 4), Chemistry (July 6), English (July 8) and Political Science (July 14). On July 15, four class 12 exams have been scheduled in North East Delhi -- Mathematics, Economics, History and Biology. For class 12 exams across the country, the Home Science exam will be held on July 1, followed by both courses of Hindi the next day. The class 12 Business Studies exam has been scheduled for July 9 followed by Biotechnology on July 10, and Geography on July 11. Sociology exam will be held on July 13. Universities and schools across the country have been closed and exams postponed since March 16 when the Centre announced a countrywide classroom shutdown as one of the measures to contain the COVID-19 outbreak. Later, a 21-day nationwide lockdown was announced on March 24, which came into effect the next day. It has now been extended till May 31. The board was not able to conduct class 10 and 12 exams on eight examination days due to the coronavirus outbreak. Further, due to the law and order situation in North East Delhi, the board was not able to conduct exams on four examination days, while a very small number of students from and around this district were not able to appear in exams on six days. The board had last month announced that it will only conduct pending exams in 29 subjects which are crucial for promotion and admission to higher educational institutions. The modalities of assessment for the subjects for which exams are not being conducted will be announced soon by the board. According to Udemy report on ‘What the world is learning (From home)’ the online learning enrollments in India went up by a whopping 606% for courses teaching communication skills after people were confined to their homes due to <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">Coronavirus</keyword> lockdown. “There is increased interest in online courses to feed personal interests and new hobbies, such as Ukulele and Technical Drawing. Demand for particular online learning topics also varies by country and geographic area, such as communication skills in India and Piano in Spain,” the report said. This is followed by the demand for courses in financial analysis and business fundamentals at 311% and 281%, respectively. The demand for soft skills like growth mindset, creativity, innovation and focus mastery witnessed the highest growth in enrollments on Udemy. “If I were to generalize a bit, then routine and mono-skilled roles will be replaced with specialists, insights-driven and multidisciplinary roles. Skills like creativity, empathy, collaboration will gain even more prominence,” Sanjiv Mehta, CEO, HUL <a href="https://youtu.be/RUKyUK50TPY">said</a> in a webinar. Overall, the online learning enrollments witnessed a 200% increase. This may be because the employees too are working in a remote setu and they are now keen on acquiring new skills. “As a result of this pandemic, we are all being forced to learn. Some of us are learning how to work from home and how to work from home along with kids. Others are learning out of necessity because of job loss or an uncertain professional future. Learning requires effort, but it can help us make progress from where we are today to where we want to be,” said Padraig Nash, Director of Learning Science and Instructional Design at Udemy. Similar concerns are shared by Bipin Kumar, a class 12 student, who says the announcement of board exams from July 1 to 15 brought limited clarity as the larger questions remain unanswered. The COVID-19 lockdown, came with a different set of concerns for class 12 students, whose board exams were postponed midway following the outbreak of coronavirus, putting on hold their future plans as well. "Everyday I have been looking for news about the exams and about entrance exam dates. I feel unfortunate that this happened during the year I was supposed to take the big college leap. I don't want my future decisions to be shaped by this very year as what I opt to study now will remain with me lifelong," Pratyusha told . Ending some uncertainty for students, HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' on Friday announced that the pending class 10 and 12 board exams will be held from July 1 to 15. While class 12 exams will be conducted across the country, the class 10 exams are only pending in North East Delhi where they were affected due to the law and order situation. "The anxiety doesn't end here, there is no date sheet yet. What will be the modalities of exams, how will we reach centres, what protocols have to be followed, there is no clarity on that. My friends and I keep calling our school teachers and also the CBSE helpline to seek some clarity," Bipin Kumar said. Vaibhav Sharma, a class 12 student in Gurgaon said, "There is no clarity yet. I wanted to apply for DU, but now that the exams are taking place in July when will the results be declared, when will cut offs be announced. If I don't get a good college here, will I be able to travel to different cities for admission, nothing is known yet." Similarly, for the students in northeast Delhi, the wait for the exams has become a "test of patience" as they were postponed first in the area due to law and order situation, and later due to the coronavirus outbreak, resulting in a four-month-long wait for the exams. "It has become an endless wait and now I don't feel like studying too. Right from childhood, we are taught that board exams are too crucial and have to be focussed at least two years in advance. But now, it is a different picture altogether," Rani Kumari, a resident of Chandbagh said.Universities and schools across the country have been closed and exams postponed since March 16 when the Centre announced a countrywide classroom shutdown as one of the measures to contain the COVID-19 outbreak.Later, a nationwide lockdown was announced on March 24, which has now been extended till May 17.The board was not able to conduct class 10 and 12 exams on eight examination days due to the coronavirus outbreak. Further, due to the law and order situation in North East Delhi, the board was not able to conduct exams on four examination days, while a very small number of students from and around this district were not able to appear in exams on six days. The board had last month announced that it will only conduct pending exams in 29 subjects which are crucial for promotion and admission to higher educational institutions. The modalities of assessment for the subjects for which exams are not being conducted will be announced soon by the board.The schedule has been decided in order to ensure that the board exams are completed before competitive examinations such as engineering entrance JEE-Mains, which is scheduled from July 18-23, and medical entrance exam NEET, which is scheduled on July 26. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued guidelines to universities that new academic session for freshers will begin from September while for the existing students from August. GJS AARAAR

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday deputed high level Central teams to Kerala, <keyword id="6354780" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karnataka">Karnataka</keyword>, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and <keyword id="6357783" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="West-bengal">West Bengal</keyword>. These States have been reporting a surge in the number of new Covid cases in the recent days. Each team comprises of a Joint Secretary, who is the nodal officer for the respective state, one public health expert to look after the public health aspects, one clinician to look after infection prevention practices, clinical management protocol being followed by the state. The teams will support the state efforts towards strengthening containment, surveillance, testing, infection prevention and control measures, and efficient clinical management of the positive cases. The Central teams shall also guide in effectively managing the challenges related to timely diagnosis and follow up. The total cases in Kerala are 3,17,929 which form 4.3 per cent of the total cases. The Cases per million stand at 8,906. Total number of recovered cases is 2,22,231 accounting for recovery rate of 69.90 per cent. The active Cases are 94,609, comprising 11.8 per cent of the total national figure. Total deaths in the state are 1,089 with case fatality rate of 0.34 per cent and deaths per million of 31. The TPM of Kerala stand at 53,518 and the positivity rate is 16.6 per cent. Karnataka has 7,43,848 total cases accounting for 10.1 per cent of the national figure. It has 11,010 cases per million population. 6,20,008 patients have recovered in the state resulting in a recovery rate of 83.35 per cent. The active cases are 1,13,557, 14.1 per cent of the national figure. The state has reported total of 10,283 fatalities, CFR of 1.38 per cent and 152 deaths per million population. The TPM is 95,674 and positivity rate is pegged at 11.5 per cent. Rajasthan has registered 1,67,279 total cases, 2,064 Cases per million and 1,43,984 total number of recoveries with recovery rate of 86.07 per cent. The active cases as on date are 21,587, 2.7 per cent share in the national numbers. The numbers of fatalities in the state is 1,708; case fatality rate is 1.02 per cent; and deaths per million stands at 21. TPM is 38,605 with positivity rate of 5.3 per cent. West Bengal has 3,09,417 total cases, 4.2 per cent of the national cases amounting to 3,106 cases per million population. Total recovered are 2,71,563 and the recovery rate is 87.77 per cent. With 31,984 active cases, the state accounts for 4.0 per cent of the total pie. Total deaths are 5,870; case fatality rate is 1.90 per cent whereas the deaths per million population are 59. With 37,872 TPM, the positivity rate is 8.2 per cent. Chhattisgarh is reporting 1,53,515 total cases, 5,215 cases per million, 1,23,943 total recovered and 80.74 per cent recovery rate. It has 28,187 active cases comprising 3.5 per cent of the national figure. There have been 1,385 total deaths in the state accounting for the case fatality rate of 0.90 per cent and 47 deaths Per million. The TPM are 50,191 and the positivity rate is 10.4 per cent. As an ongoing effort to strengthen efforts of various State and UT governments for Covid management, the Central government has been deputing Central teams from time to time to visit various States and UTs. These teams interact with the the authorities and get a first hand understanding of the challenges and issues being faced by them so as to strengthen their ongoing activities and remove bottlenecks, if any.
