One such saree is Odisha’s Sambalpuri, which bears the imprints of the state’s famous tie-and-dye technique, wherein each saree goes through a journey of threads dyed, fabric woven, and made intricate with traditional motifs. Look closely, and a Sambalpuri saree is a handmade harmony of geometric patterns and landscapes from Odisha’s religious architecture, which could take as many as three months to create. Like a precious heirloom, local weaver families cherish the painstaking technique that goes into making a Sambalpuri saree. “We are the only ones here in India making Ikat (a fabric dyeing technique). This has been our work and tradition for over 100 years,” says Chitrangan Pal. 22-year-old Chitrangan is the founder of Odisha Handloom, a company representing over a thousand families, whose members draw livelihood from the warp and weft. But selling the Sambalpuri sarees, along with dress materials, stoles, dupattas, tables, and kitchen linen, was stuck in the old ways. In 2019, Chitrangan became a Flipkart seller. “Flipkart helped us in listing over 200 of our sarees and helped us with visibility for our products nationwide.” It also opened up his perspective on selling, adding specialties like market trends and location-based selling. Soon, he tapped the strong vein of demand in India’s southern cities. Going online allowed Sambalpuri sarees to grow out of the shadow of heritage and local demand, and into fashion that was more mainstream. “Before joining Flipkart, we were selling our products in our village or state, but now our products are available to customers across the country,” says Chitrangan. Working with Flipkart has also grown the weavers’ creativity. “Before Flipkart, we were traditional saree sellers for about 40 years. We worked with the same designs. In severe cases, it can dangerously constrict breathing. A team of researchers from Universities of Colorado and Northwestern in the US, examined 18,849 children hospitalised with SARS-CoV-2. Their results published in the JAMA Pediatrics showed that upper airways infection increased during the Omicron surge. More than one-fifth of children hospitalised with SARS-CoV-2 and upper airways infection in the US developed severe disease. About 384 had upper airway infection. Severe disease, defined as requiring invasive ventilation, vasopressors, or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation or death, occurred in 81 children. The study also found that children with upper airways infection during the Omicron period were more likely to be younger and less likely to receive dexamethasone or develop severe disease compared with those in the pre-Omicron period. "Children with severe upper airway infection are at risk of cardiac arrest from rapid-onset upper airway obstruction. They may require therapies typically provided in intensive care units, including frequent administration of nebulized racemic epinephrine, helium-oxygen mixtures, and intubation," said the researchers including <keyword id="13642831" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="blake-martin" source="Orion">Blake Martin</keyword>, from Department of Pediatrics at University of Colorado's School of Medicine. "While the rate of SARS-CoV-2 paediatric upper airway infection is not overwhelmingly high, understanding this new clinical phenotype and the potential for acute upper airway obstruction may help guide therapeutic decision-making," they added. After being detected from African countries in November last year, Omicron soon gained presence worldwide and became the dominant strain, replacing <keyword id="6383835" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="delta" source="Orion">Delta</keyword>. It became dominant in the US the week ending December 25. "Omicron is known to cause lower severity disease than the Delta (B.1.617.2) variant. The team modelled the breathing frequency in a laboratory and found that low breathing frequency increases the time of residence of the virus and therefore, it increases chances of deposition and consequently the infection. Also, the multi-scale lung structure has a significant effect on a person's susceptibility to Covid-19. "Covid-19 has opened a gap in our understanding of deep pulmonological systemic diseases. Our study unravels the mystery behind how particles are transported and deposited in the deep lung," the researcher, Mahesh Panchagnula, Department of Applied Mechanics, <keyword id="6356755" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="iit-madras">IIT Madras</keyword>, said in a statement on Monday. "The study demonstrates the physical process by which <keyword id="9415137" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="aerosol-particles">aerosol particles</keyword> are transported into the deep generations of the lung," Panchagnula added. The research team worked to gain a deeper understanding of how the rate of flow of droplet laden with virus determines the deposition of the virus in the lungs. In their research, the team reported that holding the breath and having low breathing rate can increase chances of virus deposition in the lungs. Airborne infections such as Covid-19 spread immensely through sneezing and coughing as it instantly releases a lot of tiny droplets. The research team imitated the droplet dynamics in the lung by studying the movement of droplets in the small capillaries which were of a diameter similar to bronchioles. They took water mixed with fluorescent particles and generated aerosols from this liquid using a nebulizer. These fluorescent aerosols were used to track the movement and deposition of particles in the capillaries. The researchers studied the movement of the fluorescent aerosol particles in capillaries of size ranging from 0.3 to 2 millimetres which covers the range of bronchiole diameters. They found that the deposition is inversely proportional to the aspect ratio of capillaries, which suggests that the droplets are likely to deposit in longer bronchioles. It is now seriously talked of <a href="https://www.morganstanley.com/im/en-ch/intermediary-investor/insights/articles/why-crypto-is-coming-out-of-the-shadows.html">as a potential new global reserve currency</a>.But as<a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/currencies/news/bitcoin-morgan-stanley-funds-tip-of-the-iceberg-jmp-cryptocurrencies-2021-3-1030225589"> Wall Street banks roll out bitcoin services</a>, they may find its environmental costs hard to balance with shareholders and customers who are increasingly conscious. Experts tell Insider that bitcoin faces a Catch-22.Like the cryptocurrency itself, bitcoin's community is decentralized, defiant, and nebulous. No one can simply tell it to heed growing calls to reduce its carbon footprint.Alex de Vries, a Dutch economist who created the<a href="https://digiconomist.net/bitcoin-energy-consumption/"> Bitcoin Energy Consumption Index</a>, estimates the electricity used has doubled since 2017 to between 78 terawatt hours (TWh) and 101 TWh a year. More than half of bitcoin miners<a href="https://spectrum.ieee.org/computing/networks/why-the-biggest-bitcoin-mines-are-in-china"> in China</a>, where most use coal. Bitcoin has no physical form. Published estimates indicate bitcoin already consumes a significant amount of clean energy."Bitcoin miners, incentivized to use renewable energy<a href="https://hbr.org/2018/11/making-cryptocurrency-more-environmentally-sustainable"> by government subsidies</a>, have sought sustainable ways of fueling their computers.One German company set up a mining facility<a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/billybambrough/2018/11/09/bitcoin-mining-in-a-mine-without-breaking-the-bank-or-the-planet/?sh=4b2d144b3575"> under the fjords of Norway</a>, using hydroelectricity to power its machines and the freezing water to cool them.But estimates of how much bitcoin's overall energy use is green vary hugely.In a<a href="https://coinshares.com/research/bitcoin-mining-network-june-2019"> 2019 study</a>, cryptocurrency asset management firm CoinShares' analysis concluded the bitcoin network gets up to 74% of its electricity from renewables. But in a survey by Cambridge University's Judge Business School <a href="https://www.jbs.cam.ac.uk/faculty-research/centres/alternative-finance/publications/3rd-global-cryptoasset-benchmarking-study/">the same year</a>, only 39% of miners said that their power came from renewables.Renewables aren't the only way to use less energy.Ethereum, the second largest cryptocurrency after bitcoin, has a total value of $200 billion compared to bitcoin's $1 trillion market capitalization and soared over the last year. Its energy demands spiked to 30 TWh per year, up from 7 TWh 12 months ago, according to de Vries' <a href="https://digiconomist.net/ethereum-energy-consumption/">calculations</a>.It sought to cut its energy use by moving to a "proof-of-stake" algorithm, where, instead of miners who create new tokens as a reward for securing the blockchain, "stalkers" hold existing tokens and can commit - or stake - them to the network, generating new tokens and helping to validate transactions.But De Vries said fixing bitcoin's energy dilemma this way would be impossible without fundamental changes to bitcoin. Bernie Sanders and former Vice President Joe Biden.1,991 delegates are <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-winning-the-2020-democratic-primary-updated-delegate-count-2020-2">needed to win the Democratic nomination</a>, and the odds are not in Gabbard's favor. Gabbard is about as likely to win the Democratic nomination as Barack Obama is to run for a third term for the presidency, and it's unclear why she has not yet dropped out. Every single candidate had won more delegates (and Buttigieg won Iowa), but they knew the math was not in their favor moving forward. Gabbard has apparently not reached the same conclusion.But this is a fairly characteristic move for Gabbard, with her history of taking perplexing positions that garner attention but have no palpable consequences. Some of the positions are pretty nebulous. Just what does an "Asia Expansion" do? Set up shop wherever's needed, it seems.
"At base, this job entails being dropped into a city or country where Uber has zero brand and physical presence, quickly figuring out who and what make that city run, and then building a new business from scratch - in a matter of weeks - which sets Uber up for long-term success," says the job description.
It sounds like Uber is looking for a Marines with MBAs.
Besides a "unique, ground floor opportunity," Uber offers free rides as a perk.

Budget carrier <keyword id="2773653" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="SpiceJetBSE">SpiceJetBSE</keyword> -0.92 % today said it is negotiating with its aircraft lessors, who have dragged it into litigation over default on rents, to resolve the issue amicably, a day after the <keyword id="6355014" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Delhi-High-Court">Delhi High Court</keyword> directed aviation regulator DGCA to deregister the airline's six <keyword id="6357957" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Boeing">Boeing</keyword> 737-800s. 
 
The airline has reached in-principle understanding with one of the two lessors already, and is in advanced discussions with the other lessor, SpiceJet said in a statement. 
 In a severe blow to the airline, which is still in the revival process, the Court had yesterday ordered the <keyword id="164112" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Directorate-General">Directorate General</keyword> of Civil Aviation to deregister six of SpiceJet's Boeing 737 planes, following the termination of lease agreements by the leasing companies, <keyword id="2773655" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="AWAS-Ireland-Ltd">AWAS Ireland Ltd</keyword> and Wilmington Trust SP Services (Dublin) Ltd. 
 Justice <keyword id="945081" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Rajiv-Shakdher">Rajiv Shakdher</keyword> directed the DGCA to "forthwith" deregister the aircraft saying once the creditors fulfilled the conditions prescribed in Aircraft Rules, the aviation regulator was "mandatorily required to cancel registration". 
 
An airline cannot operate an aircraft once it is deregistered by aviation regulator DGCA. "In parallel with the court proceedings, discussions have been ongoing with the lessors for an amicable settlement. SpiceJet fully expects the matter will be resolved shortly and positively with the lessors, and there will be no grounding of aircraft or disruption of operations," the airline said. 
 The airline said these cases originated when it was in financial crisis in December last year, before change of ownership and infusion of fresh <keyword id="6357455" type="EVENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Funding">funding</keyword>. The airline, in the statement, also said that it was exploring all legal remedies to safeguard its interest to maintain continuity of operations. 
 
The court had said the petitioner companies, AWAS Ireland Ltd and Wilmington Trust SP Services (Dublin) Ltd, had fulfilled the conditions stipulated in the Rules, and therefore, the DGCA had no discretion in the matter. The court also said it "cannot interdict the process of deregistration on the nebulous ground of equity as it would be contrary to the provisions of the Cape Town Convention and Protocol, to which, India is a party." 
 
The Cape Town Convention provides better protection to aircraft lessors and banks. In the statement, SpiceJet said, "The change of ownership and infusion of fresh funding has assured SpiceJet's future, and our creditors are aware and appreciative that the best outcome for all parties would be a fully revived and healthy airline." 
 As part of the airline's revival plan, the erstwhile promoter Maran family transferred its entire 58.46 holding to new promoter <keyword id="6357826" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ajay-Singh">Ajay Singh</keyword>, who has already pumped in Rs 500 cr in the so far of the over all Rs 1,500 cr investment commitment. The balance Rs 1,000 cr is expected to be infused in two more tranches of Rs 500 cr each by this month and next month.
