Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> and his ministers on Saturday highlighted the achievements of the NDA, which turned two on May 26, at a six-hour mega show at Delhi's India Gate. 
	 
	"The people of India have placed their faith in us. We have left no stone unturned in our hard work," Modi said at the conclusion of the programme, titled Ek Nayi Subah" (a new beginning). The event was graced by Bollywood heavyweights, including <keyword id="6357912" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="amitabh-bachchan">Amitabh Bachchan</keyword> and Vidya Balan.

	– I am standing before people of the country with satisfaction. We have been able to to get the trust and enthusiasm of people despite a very minute examination of our work. The trust of people is growing day by day. This also increases our confidence.
 

	– On one hand there is the agenda of development (vikaswaad) and on the other hand is the agenda of obstructionism (virodhvaad).
 

	
		– Corruption has eaten away the dreams of our nation like a termite... (However) Corruption has stopped…not just for a year but for ever… This is just the beginning. A new dawn.

	– If illegal money is found in accounts of those who are named in Panama case, then they will also be prosecuted as in case of HSBC accounts.

Rising pressure from Opposition over performance of the <keyword id="6355125" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="NDA-government">NDA government</keyword> led BJP to kickstart an exercise of regular interaction between the party and Union ministers so that the "good work" done by the Centre is effectively communicated to the people. 

	The idea is to update party spokespersons with the decisions taken by ministries so that they are able to put out the right perspective. It was often found that many in the party were unaware of what stand to take on an issue or the 'good work' that needed to be communicated to the people.

The next round of meetings will be with finance minister <keyword id="42575" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arun-Jaitley">Arun Jaitley</keyword>, road tranport and highways minister <keyword id="26680" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nitin-gadkari">Nitin Gadkari</keyword>, commerce minister Nirmala Sitharaman and power minister Piyush Goyal, before the Budget session of Parliament begins. "The purpose of the exercise is that a lot of good work is being done by the government and party spokespersons need to highlight the achievements of the Modi government," BJP national secretary Sidharth Nath Singh said. 

	With the Modi government set to present its second full budget later this month, Congress has been aggressively attacking the centre over its performance. BJP members said there was a need to arm party leaders and spokespersons with correct information so they could effectively counter the opposition charges.

Times Square on the other hand isn’t a Kala Ghoda, obviously. Though the Yankee razzmatazz is what you are promised as a sight when you visit, you would be surprised to see it represents far more than what it has been projected to. For an Indian who has grown seeing vast spaces of cultural expression, Times Square is usually a place that sits snugly between the powers-that-be, exploring its own expressional alleys. The attitude, leaning towards being a snob of sorts, very consumed within self. But then, everyone around the place is an equal alien, unlike Kala Ghoda where even an alien feels at home, becomes part of an installation or a performance when it is underway. 
 
NDA’s plans to turn Kala Ghoda into TS is probably a small design of a bigger, complicated plan to change the socio-political identity of the place. If done well, it may turn out to be a splendid job adding another dimension to the city. If done badly, it may stay there like sore acne, a grim reminder of why copying is not necessarily complimenting something that inspired you. 
 
Mumbai being Mumbai, it is at home with its identity of ‘Bombay’ too. It is a mystic sufi verse that only connects with the relentless pursuit of sublime joy, than strutting temptation in the face and inviting you over. Perhaps, instead of creating a TS in Mumbai, NDA should sell the idea of setting up a Kala Ghoda in USA. It will surely add some humility to the Big Apple.

NDA supporters confident of forming government under Nitish

Attributing the party's victory in Bihar and in various assembly bypolls to the people's faith in <keyword id="6354814" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="prime-minister-narendra-modi">Prime Minister Narendra Modi</keyword>, the BJP leaders on Tuesday said the voters of Bihar have rejected dynasty, casteism and politics of appeasement. Describing the BJP's victory as the reimposition of faith in the Modi government's pro-poor policies, the party president J P Nadda said the entire nation has reposed its trust in the welfare work done by the Centre, as shown by results of the Bihar assembly elections and of by-elections in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Manipur and Telangana. BJP declares victory in Bihar Election 2020 before final count with Prime Minister Modi, Amit Shah and other senior leaders thanking voters

EESL’s Managing Director Saurabh Kumar told Business Insider the current government’s efforts are ‘laudable’ in an exclusive interview on the sidelines of the Energy Infra Post launch. 
 “The <keyword id="6385673" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="power-sector">power sector</keyword> has transformed in the last 2 years, after the new government came in. Coal production has gone up, supply has improved, and attempts are being made to improve transmission lines. That’s laudable”, Kumar told reporters. 
 
Domestic <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=coal+supply&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">coal supply</a> has improved and international coal prices have fallen over the last two years. Thermal power, which accounts for approx 70% of the country’s power generation, rose around 5% to 943 billion units in 2015-16. The country’s thermal power capacity has shot up more than 11% to 2,10,675 MW by March 2016. 
 
According to the government’s targets, the country’s transmission lines network will be expanded to a further 3,64,900 cKm by March 2017. The addition of 2,49,400 MVA transformation capacity during 2012-16, has been the highest ever in the country’s history. 
 
When asked about the country’s power challenges, Kumar said, “Wind power is under-utilized, renewable power should be more widely adopted and we’ll have to bring focus back to hydro-electric power. Coal and gas-based power plants must also be revived.” 
 
The current government has been conducting auctions to revive stranded gas-based plants.

The NDA government is hoping to pass the GST bill in the Winter Session of the parliament. 
 <keyword id="1548801" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Congress-vice-president-Rahul-Gandhi">Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi</keyword> said the Congress "strongly" believed in the GST bill, saying his party has three issues with the proposed bill: the need to cap GST rate at 18%, an independent dispute-resolution set-up within the GST council and the need to scrap 1% inter-state tax. 
 
"The government has to accept that Congress sits in Parliament, has a view and 20% vote," he said. 
 
"The Congress wants the GST bill to be both pro-industry/trade and pro-consumer. We want a cap on the GST rate so that it's not raised later," said Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad. He said the government side had assured to discuss the GST bill with the Opposition.

The stock markets have been in a buoyant mood ever since <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> was named the BJP's prime ministerial candidate on 13 September last year. With Indian voters giving the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) a clear mandate, the markets turned euphoric. On the 16 May, the day of vounting, the Sensex opened up by more than 1,000 points and then breached the historic 25,000 mark. 
 Now that the markets have safely negotiated possibly the year's biggest event risk, <keyword id="6416579" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="Retail-investors">retail investors</keyword> need to reformulate their stock market strategy: should those who have been sitting on the sidelines enter the markets now in anticipation of the bull run continuing? And, for those who entered the markets earlier, is it time to book profits in view of stretched valuations? 
 
Cast a fresh eye on your portfolio 
 
Investors with a short-term investment horizon, who have made substantial profits from the current run-up, may encash their gains. "Investors who got in at lower levels should book partial profit and wait for a correction to re-enter," says Vibhav Kapoor, Group CIO, IL&amp;FS. The rationale: the markets have already factored in the positive news and valuations are getting stretched. 
 Long-term investors, on the other hand, may continue to hold on to their investments. "The overall long-term trend is positive," says Kapoor. Adds Shankar Sharma, vice-chairman and joint managing director, First Global: "India's fundamentals are among the best in the world right now, so hold on to your equity investments." Raamdeo Agrawal, joint managing director, Motilal Oswal <keyword id="6354241" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Financial-Services">Financial Services</keyword>, concurs. "The long-term story is just starting, so investors should continue to be in equities for the next five years," he says. 
 
Adds Andrew Holland, CEO-Equities, Ambit Capital: "Foreign investors are very positive, so the high inflows may continue for a few more months." Events like the Union Budget and important economic policy announcements are expected to keep the markets buoyant over the next few months.

Which segment should you bet on? 
 Should you seek refuge in the relative safety and stability of large-caps, or should you aspire for the higher returns that mid- and small-cap stocks can potentially offer? Remember that these three segments rarely move up in tandem. The large caps led the charge when Narendra Modi was anointed prime ministerial candidate. Only later did the mid- and small-cap counters take over from them. The BSE Mid- and Small-cap indices have gained much more than the Sensex since 13 September. This trend may continue in the future as well. The large-cap stocks are gaining again now, which implies that mid- and small-caps may play catch-up later, once large caps enter correction mode. The mid- and small-cap indices are also quoting at a discount to the large-cap index. However, <keyword id="47916" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="invest">invest</keyword>ors need to invest in each stock on its own merit, based on its growth prospects and current valuation. "It would not be correct to brand the entire mid- and small-cap segment as undervalued or overvalued. Investors should go company-wise," says Swapnil Pawar, chief investment officer, Karvy Capital.

Which are tomorrow's sectors? 
 
With the NDA winning a clear mandate, the surge in economy-related stocks may continue. Enter these sectors whenever the markets take a breather. "We continue to like cyclicals," says Holland. One of the new government's top priorities will be to kickstart the investment cycle by expediting clearances. Since the executive wing of the government is likely to work with a sense of urgency, sectors like infrastructure, construction, capital goods and power are expected to fare well. 
 
Another sector expected to benefit from an economic turnaround is financials. But private and public sector banks will go their own separate ways. The former are expected to increase their share of the market pie. Unlike their public-sector peers, they don't have NPA (non-performing assets) related concerns. An economic recovery augurs well for public sector banks as well since it will reduce NPAs throughout the system. While the resolution of NPA-related concerns may take a few quarters, prices of PSU bank stocks may run up much earlier. 
 The oil and gas sector too is in a sweet spot currently. An appreciating currency will favour this sector by lowering its subsidy burden. Since its low of 68.85 vis-a-vis the dollar on 28 August, 2013, the <keyword id="6355302" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Rupee">rupee</keyword> has strengthened considerably. While this may be attributed largely to the government and the RBI reining in the current account deficit (CAD), the expectation of a business-friendly government taking over after the elections has also led to the inflow of dollars, which has pushed the rupee above the 59 level. The RBI may buy dollars to slow down the pace of the rupee's appreciation, but the currency may nonetheless strengthen in the short run. The new government is also expected to resolve the vexed issue of gas and oil pricing, which will be another shot in the arm for the sector. 
 
Despite global demand improving, the rupee's appreciation could act as a headwind for IT companies in the next few quarters. If sectoral rotation continues and money keeps on moving out of defensives and into cyclicals, there will be added pressure on IT stocks. Avoid this sector for the time being. 
 
Other export-oriented sectors such as textiles and leather may also suffer on account of the rupee strengthening. The domestic slowdown in China may lead to heightened competition from Chinese exports. Import substitution sectors like metals are also in the same boat.

Pharmaceutical, another export-oriented sector, is expected to fare better. While it too will be hit by the currency's appreciation on the external front, the picture in the domestic market is improving. The sector has already put the troubles caused by the drug price control order (DPCO) of 2013 behind it. 
 Cyclical rotation may hurt some of the defensive stocks in the short term. However, the fundamentals of sectors like auto and <keyword id="34523" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="fmcg">FMCG</keyword> will improve as domestic demand rises. The demand for premium products, which carry higher margins, is expected to improve in the wake of an economic recovery. A stronger rupee will also lower the cost of imported raw materials for many of these players. Try to latch onto some of the reasonably priced stocks in these sectors whenever the markets correct. 
 
Stocks of a few industrial groups, such as Adani, have done well ever since Narendra Modi became the BJP's prime ministerial candidate. Since momentum still favours these stocks, you may continue to hold on to them for the time being.

On being asked about his plan to join the NDA, Naidu said 'it is not the right time'. "It's not the time to talk about joining the NDA government. I will talk about this at the right time," he said while talking to ANI. Naidu was speaking to ANI, after releasing the Vision-2047 document at a programme organised in this Port City on Tuesday evening. One of the founders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) - the <keyword id="79886" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="chandrababu" source="Orion">Chandrababu</keyword> Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had left in protest against the Centre's refusal to give special status to Andhra Pradesh. Naidu further said that his role is very clear for national politics in 2024. "My priority is Andhra Pradesh. It's my big agenda. I will prepare for the rebuilding and reconstruction of the state," the TDP chief said. Responding to the Amaravati capital issue, Naidu said, "You (CM Jagan <keyword id="85706" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="mohan-reddy" source="Orion">Mohan Reddy</keyword>) are sitting in assembly. You are sitting in the secretariat. Where are you conducting the cabinet meeting? Is it temporary? Everything got ready. We planned the world-class capital for Andhra Pradesh. I planned systematically one of the best ecosystems for Hyderabad for nine years." Notably, the unified state of Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated into Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in June 2014. As per the AP Reorganisation Act, Hyderabad became the capital of Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh had to find itself a new capital within ten years; until then, Hyderabad would serve as the capital for both states. In January this year, Jagan Mohan had announced that Visakhapatnam is going to be the capital with no mention of it in any state assembly discussion or on any official documents. Later, the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government had decided to make three capitals in different cities of the State in order to ensure development in all parts of the state.
