<ul><li><keyword id="19897349" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ola-electric" source="keywords">Ola Electric</keyword> has come under the scanner after a surge in customer complaints.</li><li>The company’s sales and market share have also been declining.</li><li>The government has reportedly issued a show cause notice to <keyword id="19945904" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ola" source="keywords">Ola</keyword> Electric.</li></ul>Ola Electric was once considered the most promising electric automaker in the country, from dominating the electric two-wheeler with its electric scooters to introducing multiple electric bikes simultaneously. The company had many things going for it, hosting a vast distribution network via its cab-hailing platform and a conducive policy environment that incentivised the growth of EVs. But within a few years of its launch, somewhere something seems to have gone awfully wrong! The Bhavish Aggarwal-led company has recently been in the news for all the wrong reasons, from the company’s founder engaging in an online spat with comedian Kunal Kamra to customers taking to social media to complain about their scooters. But that’s not where the company’s problems end. One of the seemingly direct effects of the rise in customer complaints has been subdued sales in recent months. Besides this, the company has also come under the government’s scanner. <h2>Surge in complaints</h2>According to a recent report, Ola Electric recently formed a new service team to deal with the surge in customer complaints. As per the report, the electric two-wheeler maker is receiving as many as 80,000 customer complaints per month, overwhelming its service infrastructure. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="113699039" title="Ola Electric plans to expand sales and service infra to 10,000 outlets by 2025-end" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> The high number of complaints reportedly resulted in high wait times for customers, resulting in growing customer dissatisfaction, which is regularly played out on social media. <h2>Declining market share</h2>It’s not just social media, the company’s market share has also been on the decline along with its sales. From nearly a 50% market share in April 2024, the company’s market share declined to 27% in September 2024. While the company still leads the Indian electric two-wheeler market, legacy automakers like Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor are closing in. While Bajaj Auto reported a 21.5% market share in September 2024, TVS Motor reported a 20.3% market share. From occupying nearly half of the market, Ola Electric has now been restricted to a quarter and by the looks of it, the company may not even be able to hold the top position by the end of the year if the current trend continues. <h2>Ola Electric comes under the government’s scrutiny</h2>Amid rising complaints, Ola Electric has also come under the government’s scanner. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), India’s consumer watchdog issues a show-cause notice to Ola Electric over potential violations of the Consumer Protection Act (2019). According to a report, The National Consumer Helpline (NCH) run by the Department of Consumer Affairs has received 10,644 complaints against Ola Electric since September 2023. When the NCH approached Ola Electric, the body was reportedly met with apathy by the company. Out of the 10,644 complaints, 3,389 relate to delays in providing service to the vehicles, 1,899 are around delivery delays for new vehicles and 1,459 customers have complained about services that were promised but not provided. According to a report by CNBCTV-18, CCPA chairman Nidhi Khare has said the complaints against Ola Electric have been classified in 10 categories, including “delayed and unsatisfactory service”, “refusal or delay in warranty services”, “recurrent defects despite services”, “unprofessional conduct and complaint closure” and more. <h2>A customer’s harrowing experience</h2>Business Insider India spoke to Mr Rakesh (name changed), an Ola Electric customer who has been facing issues with his Ola S1 Pro. The customer paid for the vehicle in August 2023 and the scooter was delivered in January 2024, after a five-month wait. The first issue that the customer faced was that despite the scooter only being delivered in January 2024, the scooter’s warranty began in August 2023, depriving the customer of five months of warranty. Not just this, the vehicle’s insurance began in November 2023, two months prior to the delivery. While this is a concerning issue, this was the least of the customer’s problems. <div type="image" title="1" msid="114120836" hostid="261" sizebytes="68242" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The Ola S1 Pro being towed&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> As per the customer, his scooter repeatedly faced issues, not even turning on at times. Rakesh said that he was forced to restart his vehicle four to five times a day just to be able to use it and if this didn’t work, he was forced to remove and re-insert a plug placed under the seat. However, even this failed several times and in less than eight months of usage, Rakesh was forced to get his vehicle towed to the service centre multiple times with the help of roadside assistance (RSA). He claimed that he faced the issue nearly 30 times so far. He further said that the scooter has spent the majority of its time at the service centre, which is extremely disappointing after spending over ₹1.6 lakh on a vehicle. <div type="image" title="2" msid="114120876" hostid="261" sizebytes="65944" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The Ola S1 Pro being towed again&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> At the service centre, the service executives were unable to find the exact cause of the issue. To try and solve the issue, the scooter’s control unit was reportedly changed twice and there were multiple software updates. Rakesh has had a disappointing experience so far, especially with the service executives being unable to diagnose the issue and him having to repeatedly visit the service centre. <h2>A wake-up call?</h2>Many users on the internet have labelled Ola vehicles as subpar and not fit for this competitive market that’s growing rapidly. The initial marketing was good, helping the company conquer almost half of the market share. But a bad quality product can dent the reputation of a company severely in the long run. This must serve as a wake-up call for <keyword id="1543567" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bhavish-Aggarwal" source="Orion">Bhavish Aggarwal</keyword> and everyone at Ola Electric and the consumers hope that the company not only works on improving its quality control but also overhauls its service infrastructure to more efficiently diagnose and solve issues with their vehicles. During an interaction early in the company’s journey, Aggarwal once said that he hopes to sell around 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh scooters a month, which is close to what one of the popular petrol scooters manages to do each month. While this dream looked achievable at one time, the journey now seems quite tedious. Jetstar would not pay for accommodation, he said.But it did offer aggrieved passengers two vouchers amounting to $10.70 (16 AUD), which they were only allowed to spend all at once with no change given.<h2 id="94377cb2-ef0f-4b53-b24c-a56b1ba255b5">'Tired and hopeless'</h2>At Los Angeles International Airport, Sarah Patterson experienced a similar disruption.Patterson told BI her flight with Spirit Airlines to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) was delayed by more than two hours on Thursday evening before it was eventually canceled.It took three hours to get her checked luggage back from the airline, she said.On top of the delay, the airline's app was completely unresponsive and they had been told that no rebookings could be made."There's about three flights of people, at least, all in a single line for the Spirit desk, all trying to get rebooked," Patterson said."I have a family vacation I'm supposed to go on on Saturday, so it's pretty brutal," she said.A spokesperson for Spirit told BI that its team is working "as quickly as possible to have everything restored." The company wrote on X Friday that it is currently unable to rebook flights for impacted passengers because of the outage.Jacqualine Ebule was also stuck at LAX after boarding her 11:15 p.m. flight to Washington, D.C. Growing by 60 per cent year-on-year, the sale of 158,705 units during first half of 2022 was 19 per cent higher than the corresponding period of last year in seven major cities, the SBI report noted. The overall portfolio inflows since July 29 is now $7.6 billion, as against an outflow of $14.7 billion in 2022-23 prior to July 29, it added. For those unaware, Sony's WH-1000XM series has been among the best over-ear headphones in the market since its inception and the brand's most premium offering. As expected, the headphones are priced at a premium and will be sold at an introductory price of Rs 26,990, with an MRP of Rs 34,990. The headphones were released in mid-2022 and brought a significant design overhaul after four generations. It's now lighter and sleeker and is made of recycled and recyclable material. In addition to the looks, it also introduces enhancements in sound profile, mic performance, and noise cancellation. <div type="image" title="Sony WH-1000XM5" msid="94378998" hostid="261" sizebytes="84768"></div> Before I get going with the review, note that these headphones are best suited for commuters, office-goers, students and similar who want superior high-fidelity audio over Bluetooth. Whether a music producer or sound engineer, these or any wireless headphones aren't recommended; instead, it would be best to go for studio-grade wired audiophile headphones. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="It gets a new hingeless design" comment="subhead" text="It gets a new hingeless design">It gets a new hingeless design</cmsannotation> The Sony WH-1000XM5 sports a different design and looks, and you can easily distinguish between them. This time it's one piece similar to the AirPods Max, so the cups don't fold inwards; they just rotate to make it sit flat in the case. <div type="image" title="Sony WH-1000XM5" msid="94379024" hostid="261" sizebytes="116724"></div> The cans are made of recycled plastic and have a smooth finish that looks premium. Most of its parts are made of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), which has a satin-like texture, unlike its predecessor. Although this feels lighter, the texture felt more premium on the predecessor. <div type="image" title="Sony WH-1000XM5" msid="94379059" hostid="261" sizebytes="24390"></div> The build quality is impressive, but some might like the XM4 design better. I asked a few friends and colleagues, and they had mixed reactions. So design choice is subjective, but practically the new design does the job well. It is also quite sturdy and seems like it can bear a few drops unless smashed with force. Lastly, the XM5 also comes with a new carry case. It has a fabric finish and a sleeker profile that fits better and also seems like a sturdy material to protect it from damage and scratches. My only complaint with the platinum silver colour I have is that it has started catching dirt in about ten days of use. These headphones are made to be worn for long stretches, so there's a high focus on making these suitable for it. <div type="image" title="Sony WH-1000XM5" msid="94379099" hostid="261" sizebytes="43552"></div> In the last week, I've used them for over 15 hours, and it's fair to say that it feels one with the head, even with prolonged usage. These are adjustable, put the right amount of pressure, are stiff enough to stay on the head while running, and are lightweight. The padding on the XM5 is mushier than its predecessor, and so is the headband. I liked the new band design more than last year's design or even Airpods Max. In terms of controls, it's straightforward and intuitive to use and gives good feedback. You get touch-enabled volume control, call/music control, ANC on/off, voice assistant and talk-through control. All of it works as intended. You get a touch-sensitive surface on the right ear cup and two physical buttons on the left. Here are all the touch controls- Double tap: Plays/pause audio and answer/end a call. Swipe forward/backwards: Skips to the next/previous track. Swipe forward and hold: Fast forwards the track. Swipe backwards and hold: Backtracks the track. Swipe up/down: Turns the volume up/down. Swipe up and hold: Turn the volume continuously until you release the tap. Swipe down and hold: Turns the volume down continuously until you release the tap. Cover the ear cup with your palm: Turns down the audio volume to let you talk. It's unacceptable to have unresponsive or slow touch controls; Sony has taken care of that in this one. However, it would be interesting to see whether it retains the same responsiveness in the long run. <div type="image" title="Sony WH-1000XM5" msid="94379128" hostid="261" sizebytes="15888"></div> In terms of connectivity, it gets connected to Bluetooth in a jiffy. You can also use a TRS cable and a USB-Type C port for charging. In addition, the WH-1000XM5 can connect to your Bluetooth-enabled devices via the LDAC, AAC, and SBC Bluetooth codecs. Unfortunately, Sony did not return aptX support, which was last seen on the XM3. <div type="image" title="Sony WH-1000XM5" msid="94379226" hostid="261" sizebytes="139882"></div> Lastly, you can use Sony's companion Headphones Connect App for iOS and Android to get the maximum out of these headphones. You can optimise ANC, register 360 Reality Audio, use a custom equaliser and update the firmware. Not sure about the rest, but the last part makes it necessary. There are more options like find my headphones and ear analysis for 360-audio. While the former asks for access to your location, others need pictures of your ear to set it up for the best results. Sony is a reliable name and gives logical reasoning to collect this data, but if it tickles your anxiety, you will have to compromise on these features. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Impressive battery life and charging speeds" comment="subhead" text="Impressive battery life and charging speeds">Impressive battery life and charging speeds</cmsannotation> The headphones are hard to drain. I had to force use them to drain out the battery, and it delivered slightly over 30 hours of backup with ANC on. But here's what's more interesting - it can last over 52 hours without ANC, and that's practically a week's battery life even if you use it for seven hours daily. So if you use your cans for 5 hours a day with ANC, you'll be sorted for six days with a single charge or for a long flight. Still, when it dies, just three minutes of charging can provide 3 hours' worth of ANC playback. Worst case, if you are stranded with no battery or charging option, you can use the 3.5mm cable for direct playback. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Audio performance, ANC and microphone" comment="subhead" text="Audio performance, ANC and microphone">Audio performance, ANC and microphone</cmsannotation> The WH-1000XM5 continue on the same sound signature known to Sony's WH headphones. However, it comes with more emphasis on bass, loud highs and lows and softer mids. While some might love the default preset, especially with high-energy music, the audiophiles might need to tune the equaliser to get the desired sound profile. For example, rock music lovers might need to adjust mids and highs to boost vocals and instruments like guitar and horns. I personally like the bass-heavy, so I stuck to default settings where the bass is heavy but still very tight and precise. It's always advised to experiment with the equaliser settings to find the best as per your liking. If you are an audiophile, you might likely relate to the issue I noticed with the over-emphasis on highs. Take Kendrick Lamar's N95, for example - the track starts with clear vocals and snare, but as soon as the bass is introduced, the snare seems to subdue under bass and vocals. It gets more prominent as you move to multi-instrument genres like rock or metal, with more instruments in high frequency. However, it's pretty impressive if you are into pop, Bollywood or EDM. There's a track called Beat Freak by Chris Lake and Riva Starr, which has a variety of basslines, and a mix of different sound effects - which handles it impressively well. But again, the lows and mids are a bit suppressed if you listen at high volume. So songs with softer tones, like Kal Ho Na Ho's title track or Hey Jude by The Beetles, are best suited out of the box. Also, anything from The Weekend sounds lovely on this without tweaking the equaliser. Lastly, what I love is the soundstage. Put the headphones on, close your eyes, and it's very close to listening to a concert. The noise isolation has significantly improved, meaning that you are physically isolated from noises even when the headphones are switched off. So it's blocking the noise before cancelling it. Coming to ANC, it's excellent. Having used the two competitors - Aipods Max, Bose QC45 and Bose NCH 700 - I doubt if there's hardly any alternative to XM5's noise cancellation. It can cancel distant noises and people talking next to you, and it's so good that you can cut off from your physical surroundings by closing your eyes. So it's fair to say it's the best ANC headphones out there. The microphone doesn't seem to have noticeable improvement, but it doesn't mean it's terrible. It's still good enough for a premium set of cans. The call quality is excellent, whether via Zoom, Meet or a phone call. However, that does not mean that it's not worth the price. The only expert recommendation is to either buy it for the introductory price or wait for the prices to go down during a sale to make it even more value for money. He has worked at Dollar General since 2005. In his new position, Garratt will oversee all financial and information technology operations at the company.Garratt previously served as the vice president of finance and division controller for Yum! Brands-owned KFC. He was also a former vice president and controller at Big Lots Inc. Garratt will lead the company at a time of growth. Dollar General plans to increase its square footage by 7% in 2016, which will require opening 900 new stores next year.<h3>Other finance moves</h3>Maria Fiore has been named the CFO of Encyclopaedia Britannica. She arrives at the company from NCH Marketing Services, where she served as CFO and vice president of global strategic and financial planning. CEC Entertainment, owner of the Chuck E. Cheese and Peter Piper Pizza restaurants, has announced Dale Black as its next CFO. Black will succeed Temple Weist. AK Steel has promoted Jaime Vasquez to CFO, effective January 1. He will replace Roger Newport following his promotion to CEO. Vasquez currently serves as the company's director of finance. Performance Sports Group has announced Mark Vendetti as its next finance chief. He currently heads finance at Francesca's Holdings. He will take over the role from Amir Rosenthal. Checkpoint Systems has named James Lucania as its next CFO and treasurer. He has served as interim CFO since March. Dollar General names John Garratt as CFO and other finance moves

The product allows manufacturers and retailers—chiefly supermarkets—to offer Zavers online, which consumers add to an account—either a supermarket rewards program, an account tied to a phone number, or a <keyword id="659753" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Google-Wallet">Google Wallet</keyword> account, according to the description on Google's Zavers site.
Retailers and manufacturers can track the performance of these <keyword id="264822" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="coupons">coupons</keyword> in real time, rather than waiting for the laborious manual collection, redemption, and processing of paper coupons.
Some retailers, like Safeway, already have similar in-house programs for digital coupons.
Coupons are a staggeringly inefficient business today. In 2011, the most recent year for which numbers are available, <a href="http://www.mediapost.com/publications/article/167230/46-billion-dollars-saved-by-consumers-with-coupon.html#axzz2Hh6y01dQ">$470 billion worth of coupons were distributed</a> in the U.S., according to NCH, a research firm. Only $4.6 billion were redeemed. And in that year, only about 1% of coupons were digital.
Why does Google want to get into coupons? Its online-advertising revenues are heavily driven by e-commerce today, where it's easy to demonstrate a tight cause-and-effect loop between a consumer seeing an ad and making a purchase.
With coupons, you can show a similar link between ads shown online or on mobile devics and purchasing behavior in a physical store. And Google has shown a formidable ability to take that kind of data and relentlessly optimize the placement and targeting of advertising for maximum efficiency.
It will be fascinating to see what Google does with an obviously inefficient business like print coupons—though first, it will have to persuade consumers to adopt digital coupons.
