The Delhi High Court on Friday passed an interim order restraining the unauthorised use of actor <keyword id="6357912" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="amitabh-bachchan" source="Orion">Amitabh Bachchan</keyword>'s voice, image or any other trait exclusively identifiable with him by any individual. The court's order came on a lawsuit by the veteran actor alleging exploitation of his "publicity rights as a celebrity" by several individuals, including the persons behind a "<keyword id="4693" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kbc" source="Orion">KBC</keyword> lottery". <keyword id="6354348" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bachchan" source="Orion">Bachchan</keyword> is the host of the popular TV game show <keyword id="17940" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kaun-banega-crorepati" source="Orion">Kaun Banega Crorepati</keyword> (KBC). Justice <keyword id="42393" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="navin-chawla" source="Orion">Navin Chawla</keyword> said it is undisputed that Bachchan is a well-known personality and is likely to suffer an irreparable loss and disrepute if relief is not granted at this stage. "I am of the view that the plaintiff has made out a prima facie case for grant of ex parte interim relief," the judge said. The court directed telecom authorities to take action to pull down websites providing content in violation of Bachchan's rights. It also directed telecom service providers to block access to telephone numbers circulating infringing messages. Senior advocate Harish Salve said the relief of injunction was sought not only against the individuals named in the lawsuit but also against "john doe" parties or unknown parties who may be exploiting Bachchan's publicity rights. He said besides the lottery, domain names were registered under the actor's name; there was "Amitabh Bachchan Video Call" and even T-shirts bearing his photographs. Unauthorised use of Amitabh Bachchan's voice, image barred by court

<ul><li>The <keyword id="6355014" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-high-court">Delhi High Court</keyword> has given the green light for the <keyword id="97393" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Competition-Commission-of-India">Competition Commission of India</keyword> (CCI) to conduct its investigation against WhatsApp and Facebook.</li><li>The CCI contends that excessive data collection and sharing between the two social media giants could be harmful to the competition environment.</li><li>Facebook’s argument that an investigation could not be conducted against it because WhatsApp is a subsidiary was also rejected.</li></ul>India’s competition watchdog, the Competition Commission of India (CCI), has gotten the green light from Delhi’s High Court to proceed with its investigation against WhatsApp and its parent company Facebook. The two Mark Zuckerberg-owned enterprises have been under the spotlight ever since WhatsApp launched its <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/apps/news/whatsapp-says-your-privacy-wont-be-affected-if-you-dont-use-these-features/articleshow/80225748.cms">new privacy policy</a> in January 2021. The two tech giants took CCI to court saying that a fresh investigation is not needed as there were already pending cases against the privacy policy in the <keyword id="6354977" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword>. According to the bench headed by Justice Navin Chawla that is not reason enough to quash the CCI’s investigation. The actual issue is around excessive data sharing creating a monopolistic market. The competition watchdog contends that WhatsApp is using its dominant position in the market to force users to share information with its parent company, Facebook. And, this ‘excessive’ data collection will get in the way of maintaining a healthy competitive environment. New players, who may want to enter the market, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/apps/news/whatsapps-new-privacy-policy-doesnt-give-you-choice-and-could-limit-your-options-in-the-future-too/articleshow/82063830.cms">will not be able to operate that the same scale.</a> For now, the CCI is free to go ahead with its investigation. Meanwhile, WhatsApp and Facebook will have another battle to face in the Supreme Court. New <keyword id="66" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi">Delhi</keyword>, Sep 22 () The Delhi government on Tuesday said it will challenge the high court's order staying reservation of 80 per cent ICU beds for COVID-19 patients in 33 private hospitals. A Delhi government functionary said it is extremely important to reserve ICU beds in private hospitals to deal with the rising coronavirus cases in the national capital. He said the AAP dispensation will challenge the high court order on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, <keyword id="1204125" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Delhi-High-Court">the Delhi High Court</keyword> stayed the AAP government's decision to reserve 80 per cent ICU beds for coronavirus patients in 33 private hospitals. The bench of Justice Navin Chawla said prima facie the Delhi government's September 13 order is "arbitrary, unreasonable and violative of fundamental rights of citizens" guaranteed under the Constitution. The court issued notices and sought responses of the Delhi government and the Centre on a plea by 'Association of Healthcare Providers' to quash the order to reserve 80 per cent ICU beds for COVID-19 patients. The Delhi government, however, defended its decision in the court, saying it is only for 33 hospitals and 20 per cent ICU beds remain for the non-COVID-19 serious patients and it has been done keeping in view the sudden spike in cases of the virus.
