Most sectoral analysts believe that the number of air travellers can grow from 225 million (expected) in 2024 to as much as 510 million by FY30. “Indigo expects demand to remain robust with passenger traffic likely to grow 2.3x led by a shift in traffic from railways to airlines, accelerated airport expansion (<keyword id="19932272" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="navi-mumbai" source="keywords">Navi Mumbai</keyword> and Delhi airports), rise in passport holding passengers and increase in connectivity to neighbouring countries,” says a report by Nuvama. The cherry on the top of the cake is that the market is gravitating towards a ‘cosy’ duopoly after GoFirst’s grounding last year and SpiceJet’s ongoing financial troubles. Fewer players – dominated by IndiGo and Air India — means more pricing discipline which can drive yields over the long term. “Since the entire fleet of Go First is expected to stay grounded and Spice Jet’s operational capacity is also likely to fall by 70% by March 2024, the industry shall have two large players with a combined domestic market share of around 75%. IndiGo is likely to benefit from market share gains across categories amid weakening of small players,” says Nuvama. Going global Along with domestic growth, India itself has plans to become an aviation hub which can benefit its aviation players. “Strong focus on international expansion continues and company (Indigo) as well as Indian regulators believe India can become an important global hub for international-to-international travel travel, akin to the Middle East,” said a research report by UBS. Indigo, which already has over 60% market share in the domestic market is at a unique position to expand internationally too. “An airline with double of today's size, global reach and footprint by the year 2030. That is the ambitious target,” Indigo CEO Pieter Elbers told PTI in an interview on Wednesday. The company is also increasing its capacity by anywhere between 11-13% in FY25. It’s in the process of adding wide body aircraft ie. A321 XLRs to cover mid to long haul markets. These aircraft are expected to be in service over the next two years. “The company expects its international segment’s share to rise to around 30% by FY25E from around 27% currently,” says Nuvama. Moreover, it has increased its codeshare destinations (in agreement with other airlines) to 49 – 35 within Europe and seven within Australia. Its destinations in general are at 121, with 33 in Asia and 88 in India. “We maintain our positive stance on Indigo considering strong growth prospects of the Indian aviation industry, share gains in international travel, efficient cost structure and operational excellence,” says UBS. Even as it has around 70 aircraft grounded due to issues with Pratt &amp; Whitney engines and more, it’s not too much of a dampner, believe brokerages. As per management commentary, grounded aircraft will remain at current levels for the next 1-1.5 years, and will see a sharp decline after that. Adani Group to invest $20 billion in renewable energy in 10 years

Mumbai, Apr 30 () The construction of the international airport at Navi Mumbai will be little delayed due to the situation arising out of the coronavirus pandemic, GVK Group Vice Chairman Sanjay Reddy said on Thursday. He is also the Managing Director of Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd (NMIAL). The Rs 16,000-crore aerodrome is being built by a consortium led by GVK Power &amp; Infrastructure. A release issued by industry body CII quoted Reddy as saying that the construction and starting of Navi Mumbai airport, is expected to be a little delayed due to the current situation in the wake of the pandemic. The airport would be using the most advanced technologies and artificial intelligence, he said. Reddy was addressing a session on the future of travel amidst the COVID-19 situation, organised by the Young Indians (Yi) Mumbai Chapter of the CII, as per the release. Every single business and organisation is currently reinventing themselves. The pandemic would also foster the use of modern technology, which in turn would bring in more efficiency in the system, he said. "During the pre-vaccine period, airports are expected to adapt to various safety and hygiene practices. Also, it is expected that business travels will be reduced due to more utilisation of virtual platforms and travel cost cutting in various organisations," Reddy was quoted as saying in the release. The post-vaccine period is going to be totally different as people would be eager to travel, he added. The GVK group is already a majority stakeholder in the Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), which is running the Mumbai airport. The second airport in the Mumbai region was expected to be open in December 2019 and the deadline was pushed to 2021. The passenger terminal building is being developed to initially have a capacity to handle 10 MPA (Million Passengers per Annum) and would be enhanced to 20 MPA. The GVK group plans to spend Rs 8,500 crore in the first phase of the project. The Navi Mumbai airport project is a public-private partnership venture in which MIAL holds 74 per cent stake with Maharashtra's CIDCO. In a <keyword id="525282" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="regulatory-filing">regulatory filing</keyword>, <keyword id="118623" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani-Enterprises">Adani Enterprises</keyword> said that AAHL has acquired 28.20 crore equity shares of MIAL. AAHL is also a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises. "Adani Airport Holdings Ltd has acquired 23.5 per cent equity stake i.e. 28,20,00,000 equity shares of ₹10 of Mumbai International Airport Ltd from ACSA Global Ltd and Bid Services Division (Mauritius) Ltd," the filing said. Incorporated on March 2, 2006, MIAL is engaged in the business of development, construction and operation of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Adani Group acquires 23.5% stake in Mumbai International Airport for ₹1,685 crore

If things work as planned, <keyword id="6358070" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="mumbai">Mumbai</keyword> will have at least two operational metro lines in 2020 connecting the western suburbs of the city. The two corridors, Metro Line-2A (Dahisar-DN Nagar) and Metro Line-7 (Dahisar East-Andheri East), are proposed to be commissioned simultaneously in 2020, the <keyword id="64095" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-Metropolitan-Region-Development-Authority">Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority</keyword> (MMRDA) said in a statement. MMRDA has not yet received possession of land for a car depot for Metro Line-7 as the land parcel is currently with the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
 MMRDA had proposed to give AAI another land in Gorai in lieu of their land. However, currently, this land has got a stay by the Bombay High Court as it had been earmarked for a law university.
 Meanwhile, MMRDA has also claimed that corridors, Line-2B (DN Nagar-Mandale), Line-4 (Wadala-Kasarvadavali) and Line-6 (Swami Samarth Nagar-Vikhroli), will be operational by 2021.
 The Supreme Court has restrained MMRDA from chopping trees for construction of the Metro Line-4 and asked to maintain status quo on felling of trees for the project. It had also sought replies from the MMRDA and the state.
 The ambitious Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 corridor, being implemented by the <keyword id="117023" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-metro">Mumbai Metro</keyword> Rail Corporation (MMRC), has been facing several roadblocks and also missed its deadlines, which is now expected to be commissioned in 2021. After the change of dispensation in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray ordered a stay on the construction of a metro car-shed for Metro Line-3 in <keyword id="6370614" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="aarey">Aarey</keyword> colony, touted as the city's green lungs. Protests by locals, NGOs and the chief minister's son who is now a Cabinet minister, Aditya Thackeray, led to Uddhav Thackeray making this announcement soon after taking charge.
 "Once completed, these five lines -- 2A, 7, 2B, 4 and 6 -- with an aggregate worth of Rs 44,869 crore are expected to serve more than 50 lakh commuters at around 98 stations across the city," the MMRDA said.
 These lines are expected to make a considerable commuter shift by 35 per cent, thus easing the gruelling grind that the suburban rail network is, it said.
 "We are overcoming the biggest challenge one might face, which was to do these development projects without having to completely stop the vehicular traffic even for 10 minutes. It will be an accomplishment to showcase to the entire world. Mumbaikars have shown great patience. Now, it is time to reap rewards," MMRDA Commissioner R A Rajeev said.
 Apart from these, Mumbai will also witness works on projects like Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL) and the Virar-Alibaug Multi-Modal Corridor having an aggregate cost of Rs 31,430 crore. 
 The ambitious Rs 17,843-crore MTHL project will be connecting Sewri with Nhava Sheva and help solve the traffic congestion in the island city by improving connectivity between Mumbai and <keyword id="57321" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Navi-Mumbai">Navi Mumbai</keyword>. "Besides these, there are several other bridges and connectors which will be beneficial to Mumbaikars. There are two flyovers, with an estimated cost of around Rs 163 crore and a road coming up to clear the BKC junction, among others proposed," MMRDA said. PSK HRS

From today (February 24), <keyword id="1703859" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="commercial-seaplane-service">commercial seaplane service</keyword> is starting in Mumbai for the first time. And that’s another feather in the cap of the financial capital after the city rolled out the country’s first-ever <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Mumbai-Monorail-IsNow-On-Track-To-Run-From-Feb-1/articleshow/29663991.cms">monorail</a> on February 1. 
 Initially, the <keyword id="509938" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="seaplane-service">seaplane service</keyword> is connecting Mumbai to <keyword id="2073466" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aamby-Valley-hill-station">Aamby Valley hill station</keyword> in <keyword id="6378734" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Lonavala">Lonavala</keyword> – a 100 km stretch – and the flight will take just 25-28 minutes or one-fourth of the time taken by a road trip. As of now, there will be just one flight a day and you only get a <keyword id="2073454" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Four-seater-Cessna-206">four-seater Cessna 206</keyword> amphibian. But the <keyword id="1429804" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="seaplane-services">seaplane services</keyword> will be scaled up if there is enough response. The flights will be operated by Mumbai-based <keyword id="1392953" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Maritime-Energy-Heli-Air-Services">Maritime Energy Heli Air Services</keyword> (<keyword id="779896" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="MEHAIR">MEHAIR</keyword>) and a <keyword id="2073455" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="nine-seater-Cessna-208">nine-seater Cessna 208</keyword> amphibian will be deployed if the demand rises. 
 While a seaplane is capable of taking off or landing on water, without an airstrip, there is another variety that can also take off from regular airfields on land. <keyword id="1645279" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="test-flights">Test flights</keyword> for the current stretch took place in December last year and the amphibians landed and took off from the <keyword id="2073458" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aamby-Valley-Lake">Aamby Valley Lake</keyword>. 
 
In June last year, Kerala launched the country’s first tourist seaplane service that connects the distant backwater destinations. Similar services are also available in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. 
 Mumbaikars, however, will have to wait some more for the intracity seaplane flights from Juhu to Girgaum Chowpatty. The <keyword id="190329" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Maharashtra-Tourism-Development-Corporation">Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation</keyword> (<keyword id="111420" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="MTDC">MTDC</keyword>), along with MEHAIR, had planned it nearly two years ago. But the project got delayed as it was awaiting crucial clearances from several authorities. It has finally got the nod from the <keyword id="6369097" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Defence">Ministry of Defence</keyword> and has also obtained clearances from key agencies including the <keyword id="56306" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Coast-Guard">Coast Guard</keyword>, the <keyword id="42407" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Navy">Navy</keyword>, <keyword id="11098" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="police">police</keyword>, the <keyword id="170906" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="urban-development-department">urban development department</keyword>, <keyword id="48434" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BMC">BMC</keyword>, <keyword id="136514" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mumbai-Port-Trust">Mumbai Port Trust</keyword>, the <keyword id="6356826" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="environment">environment</keyword> department and the <keyword id="54875" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Airports-Authority-of-India">Airports Authority of India</keyword>. 
 But to implement this project, MTDC will require to build a <keyword id="2073482" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Floating-jetty">floating jetty</keyword> for ferrying passengers to and fro. It has already earmarked some 5,000 sq km, about 100-200m into the sea and next to H2O, the privately operated water <keyword id="6356028" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Sports">sports</keyword> complex. However, a High Court-appointed committee will have to give the go-ahead first before the <keyword id="2073483" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mumbai-City-Collectors-office">Mumbai City Collector’s office</keyword> can grant the land near the city’s coast. 
 
Once the last leg of the project is cleared and the seaplane service is launched, the hour-long commute will come down to 5-7 minutes for a one-way fare of Rs 750-1,000. 
 MTDC and MEHAIR are also planning to operate several other routes with no air connectivity. In fact, MTDC has already started working with the irrigation ministry to identify suitable water bodies like dams, lakes and rivers for starting seaplane services across the state. The upcoming destinations could be Lonavala, <keyword id="64488" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mahabaleshwar">Mahabaleshwar</keyword>, <keyword id="46028" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Panchgani">Panchgani</keyword>, <keyword id="143186" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shirdi">Shirdi</keyword>, <keyword id="2073489" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shani-Singnapur">Shani-Singnapur</keyword> and <keyword id="680155" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Trimbakeshwar">Trimbakeshwar</keyword> – most of them are either popular <keyword id="476562" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="tourist-attractions">tourist attractions</keyword> or noted <keyword id="680154" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="pilgrimage-sites">pilgrimage sites</keyword>. So fasten your seatbelt and be ready – these amphibians are all set to take you on a discovery flight of a lifetime – over land and water.
