No second Covid-19 booster dose required: Govt sources

New Delhi, Days before the <keyword id="23914" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="commencement">commencement</keyword> of the <keyword id="10584544" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="nationwide-covid-19-vaccination-drive">nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive</keyword>, the <keyword id="83655" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-health-ministry">Union Health Ministry</keyword> said on Tuesday that 1.1 crore <keyword id="9617748" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="covishield">Covishield</keyword> and 55 lakh <keyword id="9485939" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="covaxin">Covaxin</keyword> vaccines have been procured at a cost of ₹200 and ₹206 per dose, respectively. "As many as 110 lakh (1.1 crore) doses of Covishield vaccine are being procured from the <keyword id="95879" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Serum-Institute-of-India">Serum Institute of India</keyword> at a cost of ₹200 per dose, excluding taxes. A total of 55 lakh doses of Covaxin vaccine are being procured from <keyword id="149108" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharat-Biotech">Bharat Biotech</keyword>," Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said during a press conference.2 The cost of 38.5 lakh doses of Covaxin is ₹295 per dose, excluding taxes. Bharat Biotech is providing 16.5 lakh doses of Covaxin free of cost to the Central government. Hence, the cost of Covaxin comes to ₹206 per dose," he added. Vaccines have already reached some states. Till 4 p.m., about 54,72,000 doses were received by the states and <keyword id="390245" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-Territories">Union Territories</keyword>. By January 14, 100% doses will be received. The much-awaited Covid-19 vaccination drive will kick-off on January 16. The Central government plans to vaccinate nearly 30 crore people in the first phase of the drive. Priority will be given to the healthcare and frontline workers who are estimated to be around three crore, followed by those above 50 years of age and the under-50 population with comorbidities numbering around 27 crore. Indian government procures over 1 crore Covidshield vaccine doses for ₹200 apiece and 55 lakh Covaxin doses for ₹206

New Delhi, A man in Odisha died after taking the coronavirus vaccine and his post mortem report is awaited, while another developed bacterial sepsis but the condition is not linked to the vaccine, the <keyword id="6357307" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Central-Government">Central Government</keyword> said on Wednesday. A total of nine people have died following vaccination, but Additional Secretary, <keyword id="6354750" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="health">Health</keyword>, Manohar Agnani, said that none of the deaths are linked to the Covid-19 vaccination. In the last 24 hours, a 23-year-old male from Odisha's Nuapada district died after the jab. "His post mortem is awaited," he said. Besides this, a total of 16 people have been hospitalised, which accounts for 0.0007 per cent of the total vaccinated, since the commencement of the nationwide vaccination drive. "In the last 24 hours, one person developed bacterial sepsis and is undergoing treatment at <keyword id="6382967" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Apollo">Apollo</keyword> hospital in Chennai," Agnani said, adding that no case of severe or serious adverse event following immunisation is attributable to vaccination. A total of 23,28,779 people have been vaccinated till now, with 2,99,299 inoculated on the 12th day on Wednesday. As many as 60,194 people were vaccinated in Madhya Pradesh -- the highest so far. The nationwide vaccination drive had started on January 16 with the help of two vaccines -- Covaxin and Covishield. Initially, the government aims to vaccinate one crore healthcare workers and two crore frontline workers.

Nearly 4.5 million (44,49,552) beneficiaries have received COVID-19 vaccine shots in merely 19 days, the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday. India became the fastest country in the world to reach the 4 million COVID-19 vaccination mark, achieving this feat in 18 days. "Many other countries have had a head start of almost 65 days. India launched the countrywide COVID-19 vaccination drive on January 16. The number of beneficiaries being vaccinated every day has also shown a progressive increase," the ministry said. In a span of 24 hours, 3,10,604 people were vaccinated across 8,041 sessions, it said, adding that 84,617 sessions have been conducted so far. India's COVID-19 active caseload has dropped to 1.55 lakh (1,55,025) and comprises just 1.44 per cent of the total infections. The day-on-day change in the number of active cases over the last few weeks depicts the consistent decline in active cases. India's Daily Positivity Rate is 1.82 per cent, as of today, it said. "India has maintained the daily positivity rate below 2 per cent in last few weeks (19 days)," the ministry said. The total recoveries have surged to 1,04,80,455. "The difference in new recoveries outnumbering new cases has also improved the recovery rate to 97.13 per cent. The total recovered cases are 67.6 times the active cases," the ministry highlighted. It said 86.04 per cent of the new recovered cases are observed to be concentrated in six states and union territories. At 7,030, Maharashtra has reported the maximum number of single day recoveries while 6,380 people recovered in Kerala in a span of 24 hours followed by 533 in Tamil Nadu. The ministry said that 84.67 per cent of the new cases too are from six states and UTs. Kerala continues to report the highest daily new cases at 6,356. It is followed by Maharashtra with 2,992, while Tamil Nadu reported 514 new cases. Six states and UTs also account for 71.03 per cent of the new deaths. Maharashtra saw the maximum casualties at 30 followed by Kerala (20). West Bengal and Chhattisgarh reported 7 casualties each. India has administered about 4.5 million COVID-19 vaccine shots in 19 days

New Delhi [India], April 23 (ANI): India reported over 10,000 COVID cases for the fifth straight day with 10,112 <keyword id="7571551" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-infections" source="Orion">new infections</keyword> in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday. The country saw a little dip from Saturday's COVID cases tally. India recorded 12,193 on April 22, 11,692 on April 21, 12,591 on April 20, 10,542 on April 19, 7,633 on April 18, and 9,111 on April 17. According to the Union Health Ministry, the country's active cases increased to 67,806 which was 67,556 yesterday. Presently recovery rate stands at 98.66 per cent, the Health Ministry stated further. As many as 9,833 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours taking the overall count of people cured of the infection to 4,42,92,854, according to the Ministry. Under the nationwide vaccination drive, India has so far administered 220.66 crore Covid vaccine doses (95.21 cr second doses and 22.87 cr precautionary doses), of which 1,947 doses were administered in the last 24 hours. The total number of tests conducted in the last 24 hours is 1,43,899, the health ministry stated. In wake of the spike in the number of COVID-19 cases across the country, Dr PK Mishra, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister earlier chaired a high-level meeting on Wednesday to assess the situation. The PMO informed in a statement that the focus of the meeting was on the status of preparedness of health infrastructure and logistics, drugs, vaccination campaign in the country and the key necessary steps as a response to the recent surge in Covid cases. "Dr PK Mishra stressed that the time tested 5-fold strategy of Test-Track-Treat-Vaccination and adherence COVID Appropriate Behaviour must continue to be implemented and equally crucial to promote awareness within the community regarding COVID appropriate behaviour and caution citizens against complacency," the PMO statement read. During the meeting, a comprehensive presentation was made by Rajesh Bhushan, the Secretary of Health and Family Welfare providing an overview of the global COVID-19 situation. The presentation also provided an overview of the Genome Sequencing of different variants since January 2023 and noted the proportion of circulating variants in India. The status of vaccination was discussed, followed by drug availability and infrastructure preparedness across the country, the PMO stated. As per directions of the Prime Minister, a nationwide mock drill for the assessment of functional infrastructure was conducted and the status of the mock drill was presented to participants. Nationwide, 75% of eligible Americans aged 12 and up have received at least one vaccine dose with 65% considered fully vaccinated, according to data<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/covid-19-vaccine-doses.html"> from the Centers for Disease Control. </a>But the data broken down at the state and county level show that Democratic areas account for far more of the country's vaccinations. Ron DeSantis of Florida and Gov. Greg Abbott, who have moved to ban such mandates, and localities and private businesses who have sought to impose them. As for the new UK strain of COVID-19, the ministry has not observed any ‘untoward clusters’ growing in the country aside from the 58 cases registered so far. The guidelines dictate that no more than 100 people can be present during a session at each site per day. However, the centre noted that the number of people per session could be increased to 200 — if the supporting logistics are present. “Conduct of the vaccination process [will be] similar to the election process,” said the government’s draft standard operating procedure (SOP) document. People who are above the age of 50 will be identified using the Lok Sabha voter list. India is ready to roll out COVID-19 vaccine for the masses within 10 days of approval, claims Health Ministry

India's tally of <keyword id="8869954" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-cases" source="Orion">Covid cases</keyword> rose by 556 in a day to reach 4,46,68,523 while <keyword id="15559044" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="active-cases-declined" source="Orion">active cases declined</keyword> by 252 during the same period to reach 6,782, according to <keyword id="15559046" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-Health-Ministry-data-updated" source="Orion">Union Health Ministry data updated</keyword> Friday. The death toll has climbed to 5,30,570 with 17 more fatalities, including 15 reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,41,31,171, while the case fatality rate was 1.19 per cent. Active cases comprise 0.02 per cent of the total infections while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.79 per cent. According to the health ministry's website, 219.85 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive. India's COVID-19 tally crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,44,14,599, while the case fatality rate stood at 1.18 per cent.
