Motilal Oswal Financial Services forecast in a note that after growing strongly for two consecutive years, India's real GDP growth would decelerate to 5.2 per cent YoY in FY24, while nominal GDP growth would weaken even sharply to 7-7.5 per cent, led by easing inflation. A combination of factors such as slower global economy, fading pent-up demand and normalising base effects would contribute to slower real growth. With an expected retail inflation print at just 4.3 per cent and a mere 1 per cent growth in the wholesale price index (<keyword id="46000" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="wpi" source="Orion">WPI</keyword>) in FY24, the GDP deflator could be around 2 per cent, dragging down India's nominal GDP growth to the lowest level compared to any year between the early 1970s and FY19 (that is, half-a-century pre-Covid period), the report said. Such slow growth rate would have some serious implications for the macro economy and financial markets. "Overall, we believe that unlike the past 12-15 months, the narrative will reverse in FY24. Inflation concerns will take a back seat and growth worries will resurface. This may be true not only for India, but also for the entire global economy. At the same time, restrictive monetary policy will fail to boost financial markets. Accordingly, CY23 could be very painful," the report said. Revenue of listed companies is highly correlated with nominal GDP growth (and WPI-inflation). In case of single-digit nominal GDP growth, corporate sales growth is also expected to weaken from an average of &gt;30 per cent YoY in the past seven quarters to single digits in FY24. With an expectation of weaker nominal GDP growth in FY24, we estimate India's debt growth to also weaken. Thus, bank credit growth could also moderate from 15-16 per cent in FY23 to 12 per cent in FY24 with a downward bias, the report said. As central banks across the world simultaneously hike interest rates in response to inflation, the world may be edging toward a global recession in 2023 and a string of financial crises in emerging market and developing economies that would do them lasting harm, according to a comprehensive new study by the <keyword id="6354424" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="world-bank" source="Orion">World Bank</keyword> in September. Several historical indicators of global recessions are already flashing warnings. The global economy is now in its steepest slowdown following a post-recession recovery since 1970. Global consumer confidence has already suffered a much sharper decline than in the run-up to previous global recessions. The world's three largest economies -- United States, China, and the Euro zone -- have been slowing sharply. The experience of the 1970s, the policy responses to the 1975 global recession, the subsequent period of stagflation, and the global recession of 1982 illustrate the risk of allowing inflation to remain elevated for long while growth is weak. The 1982 global recession coincided with the second-lowest growth rate in developing economies over the past five decades, second only to 2020. It triggered more than 40 debt crises and was followed by a decade of lost growth in many developing economies, the World Bank said. India's current account deficit expectedly swelled to a 37-quarter high of $36.4 billion (4.4 per cent of GDP) in Q2 FY23 from $18.2 billion in Q1 FY23 (2.2 per cent of GDP). The resulting net balance of payments (BoP) position registered a deficit of $30.4 billion (3.7 per cent of GDP), its weakest since the 2008 global financial crisis, compared to a surplus of $4.6 billion in Q1 FY23, Acuite Ratings said. Amid an uncertain geopolitical environment and slowing global growth, however, risks will remain on both current account balance and capital flows, it said. With excessive demand supply disparities, bloated supply chain management and battle against inflation weighing down on global economic growth, the New Year started on a gloomy outlook as IMF predicts global GDP growth topping at 2.7 per cent, narrowly escaping recession, Nuvama Professional Clients Group said in a note. The economy has been supported by sturdy domestic demand as indicated in GST collections and consumer spending. However, the industrial output contracted by 4 per cent YoY in October, the worst in over two years, hobbled by the drop in orders from western markets and weak investment at home, the note said. Standard Chartered said in a report that 2023 global macroeconomic backdrop is likely to be challenging given the heightened risk of a slowdown as lagged effects of monetary policy tightening leads to a weaker demand scenario and lower corporate earnings performance. As the monetary policy rate cycle peaks amid receding inflationary pressures in the second half of the year, risk sentiment could improve with the growth outlook stabilising. "In our assessment," the bank noted, "India's growth-inflation dynamics is stable and better than its peers." The post-pandemic economic recovery cycle remains strong amid supportive government policies and a pick-up in investments. Further, the likely broadening of the rural economy's recovery and of the service sectors is a strong tailwind, the note said. In a message to the employees of the group, Chandrasekaran said Wednesday's "NCLAT ruling, which apart from other things, raises issues on my appointment as Executive Chairman of Tata Sons". He further said, "Tata Sons firmly believes in the strength of our case and will pursue the appropriate legal recourse".
 Going forward, he further said, "I assure you that we have set ourselves on a course that will make the <keyword id="6355725" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-group">Tata Group</keyword> stronger and more vibrant than it has ever been before. I urge all employees to stay focussed on their businesses and the welfare of our stakeholders". Chandrasekaran said ever since he was asked to take on the role and responsibilities of Executive Chairman in February 2017, "our efforts have been primarily focused on: restoring stability and moving decisively towards a healthier financial position; conducting our businesses with the highest ethical standards, which the group has been known for over 150 years".

The company is planning to hire 1,000 workforce in Bengaluru in the next six months, the release said. The company's <keyword id="6356825" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Trichy">Trichy</keyword> operation also crossed 4,000 employees, making Omega Healthcare the largest white-collar employer in Trichy, it added. "Our business has been expanding both horizontally and vertically as a result of which we have been hiring continuously for the various services we provide," the company said. "Today we have over 4,000 employees working in the Bengaluru facility alone and have been growing annually at about 30 per cent. This gives us more opportunities to rapidly scale hiring of talented young professionals," Omega Healthcare Co-Founder and CEO <keyword id="1566937" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gopi-Natarajan">Gopi Natarajan</keyword> said. Omega Healthcare currently serves over 100 clients in the US. With the recent acquisition of US-based <keyword id="4744031" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="whitespace-healthcare">WhiteSpace Healthcare</keyword>, the company has expanded its offerings to include cloud-based data analytic solutions. <keyword id="4265678" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="WhiteSpace-Health">WhiteSpace Health</keyword> is a provider of data analytics and cloud healthcare intelligence.

 Gopinathan joined TCS in 2001 and was appointed as CFO of the company in February 2013. Prior to this, <keyword id="6372038" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajesh">Rajesh</keyword> was the Vice President - Business Finance. He was responsible for the financial management of the company's individual operating units.

Meet the new TCS CEO: Rajesh Gopinathan

Jayalalithaa’s confidant VK <keyword id="6358664" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sasikala">Sasikala</keyword> has been unanimously elected as her successor and will take over as General Secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). 
 
Sasikala, a close friend and confidant of Jayalalithaa, was chosen to head the party. 
 
Reportedly, the General Council body of AIADMK passed the resolution to elect Sasikala Natarajan as the General Secretary almost unanimously. However there were few dissent notes as well. The post fell vacant following the demise of party general secretary and Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on December 5. 
 
The meeting was attended by over 2000 party workers, but Sasikala wasn’t present there. 
 
Yesterday, clashes broke out between AIADMK workers and supporters of Rajya Sabha member Sasikala Pushpa outside the ruling party's office in Chennai. 
 
Sasikala Pushpa had earlier expressed her wish to contest for the party's general secretary post. Sasikala was expelled from the AIADMK sometime back but did not resign from the Rajya Sabha.

With the new launch, the company is entering the freshening space in India, a segment it rules globally. 
 India is the first country to have launched this version of Doublemint <keyword id="1592528" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mints">Mints</keyword>, which are available in two flavors - peppermint and spearmint - and are priced at Rs.10 for a 15-piece-product. The company will start launching the product in key metro cities, starting off with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=bengaluru&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Bengaluru</a>. 
 The company developed the mints at its <keyword id="431344" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="RD-Centre">R&amp;D centre</keyword> in its Bengaluru plant, but will be producing the same at its facility in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh. It took them over nine months to bring the sugar-free product to the table.

Wrigley has a new 'minty' surprise for India

With marginal growth in net profit, mid-tier software services firm <keyword id="6357902" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="MindTree">Mindtree</keyword> is on its way to shore up its digital business. It bought UK-based <keyword id="1025474" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="SAP-Hana">SAP HANA</keyword> consultancy <keyword id="2332027" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bluefin-Solutions">Bluefin Solutions</keyword> and Ohio, US-based Relational Solutions Inc for a combined value of nearly $75 million. 
 Mindtree bought Bluefin Solutions for about 42.3 million pounds, as part of a push to help its largest customers simplify their business processes using SAP's business software. Chief executive <keyword id="372282" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Krishnakumar-Natarajan">Krishnakumar Natarajan</keyword> said the acquisition would help Mindtree's customers in rapidly digitizing their operations. 
 
"We are very excited about the synergies both Mindtree and Bluefin bring in the digital space. The acquisition will strengthen our position to offer the full spectrum of SAP services. Bluefin's focus on SAP HANA and their expertise across the SAP portfolio creates the scale to deliver transformational services while driving greater efficiencies and operational effectiveness," said Krishnakumar Natarajan, chief executive and co-founder of Mindtree. 
 
Mindtree also bought US-based analytics provider Relational Solutions Inc (RSI) for about $10 million. RSI provides analytics solutions primarily for the consumer packaged goods sector. 
 
Coming back to its growth in net profit, for the quarter ended June 30, net profit stood at $21.8 million, up 0.6% from the same period last year. Revenue climbed 9.7% to $154.9 million, helped mainly by new deal wins during the quarter and a strong performance from its digital business which grew 12.7% sequentially. 
 
In rupee terms, net profit jumped 6.8% from the year-ago period to Rs. 138.2 crore, while revenue rose 16.4% to Rs. 981.6 crore. 
 
Mindtree's shares closed nearly flat at Rs.1225 on the BSE on Thursday.

Mindtree acquires two companies to shore up its digital business

AIADMK supremo and former <keyword id="20154" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword> chief minister J <keyword id="42104" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jayalalithaa">Jayalalithaa</keyword> scored a sensational legal victory on Monday, as the Karnataka high court acquitted her of all corruption charges in the 19 year old Rs 66.65-crore disproportionate assets case that had been hanging like an albatross around her neck for nearly two decades. 
 Justice C R Kumaraswamy overturned the September 27, 2014 verdict of a special court in <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword>. The judge also acquitted her associates - <keyword id="844490" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sasikala-Natarajan">Sasikala Natarajan</keyword>, her niece Ilavarasi, her nephew and the chief minister's disowned foster son <keyword id="870504" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sudhakaran">Sudhakaran</keyword>. 
 <keyword id="2845578" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bengaluru-special-judge">Bengaluru special judge</keyword> John Michael Cunha had sentenced Jayalalithaa to four years in jail and fined Rs 100 crore on September 27, 2014. She was convicted in the disproportionate assets case that was launched by Subramanian Swamy on 20 August 1996. 
 
The special court had sentenced Sasikala, Ilavarasi and Sudhakaran to four years in jail and fined Rs 10 crores each. 
 
The judgement by the special court had disqualified her from the post of CM and legislative assembly of Tamil Nadu. 
 
Now, her acquittal by the Karnataka high court means she can assume the chief minister's post. ​Jayalalithaa is expected to address the press on Monday. 
 
AIADMK supporters started celebrations as soon as the high court pronounced it verdict. They celebrated sweets. 
 
A large number of her supporters assembled in front of Jayalalithaa's residence in Chennai, expecting she will greet them soon. 
 
The party workers, who have been praying for her acquittal in the case, broke coconuts as thanksgiving.
