This included advising Athenahealth on its $17 billion sale to Bain Capital and Hellman &amp; Friedman in November, and he also worked with Nuance on a nearly $20 billion sale to Microsoft in April last year. Nataraj also quarterbacked cybersecurity firm NortonLifeLock's roughly $8.5 billion merger with digital-security firm Avast last August.This year, he helped Vocera Communications in its $3 billion sale to Stryker in January, and in March, Nataraj advised healthcare firm Intelligent Medical Objects in its sale to investor Thomas H. The 16 fastest swimmers from the heats qualify to the semifinals. The performance was far from Nataraj's personal best of 53.77s and was considerably slower than his season best time of 54.68s. Making her Olympic debut, 14-year-old <keyword id="22282544" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dhinidhi" source="keywords">Dhinidhi</keyword>, the youngest member of the Indian contingent, did well to top her 200m women's <keyword id="20430917" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="freestyle" source="keywords">freestyle</keyword> heat. <keyword id="20010837" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="swimming" source="keywords">Swimming</keyword> in heat 1, which is the slowest heat, Dhinidhi touched the pads at 2:06.96. But the Indian finished 23rd out of 30 participants, which included three-time Olympic champion Australia's <keyword id="22578476" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ariarne-Titmus" source="keywords">Ariarne Titmus</keyword>.

Srihari, Dhinidhi fail to reach semis; Indian swimming campaign ends

The Centre assured the <keyword id="6354977" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court" source="Orion">Supreme Court</keyword> on Monday that the counselling process of NEET-PG will not commence till the top court decides the challenge to 27 per cent reservation for <keyword id="45661" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="OBC" source="Orion">OBC</keyword> and 10 per cent for <keyword id="11939755" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ews" source="Orion">EWS</keyword> category in PG All India Quota seats (MBBS/BDS and MD/MS/MDS) from the current academic session. A bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and B V Nagarathna recorded the assurance given by Additional Solicitor General (ASG) K M Nataraj, appearing for the Centre, and observed that students will be in serious problem if the counselling process goes ahead as scheduled. The assurance by Nataraj was given after senior advocate Arvind Dattar, appearing for some NEET candidates, mentioned that as per the schedule announced by the Director General of Health Services, the counselling process for the NEET-PG is to commence from October 25. He said that by the time the court decides the pending batch of petitions, challenging the July 29 notification, introducing the reservation from academic year, the entire process of admission will be over and serious prejudice would be caused to the students. Nataraj said the communication which counsel for petitioner is referring to was sent only to the medical colleges for verification of seats and one more clarificatory notification has been issued on Monday. The counselling process will not begin till the court decides the pending batch of petitions, the ASG submitted. The bench said that it is taking the word on record. We will take your word on record that counselling process will not start till we decide the batch of petitions one way or the other. You know, students will be in serious problem, if the process continues, the bench said. Nataraj agreed with the observation of the court and said that if there is any problem at all in the future, the petitioner's counsel can contact him directly. On October 21, the top court had asked the Centre whether it would like to revisit the limit of rupees eight lakh annual income, fixed for determining the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category for reservation in NEET admissions for medical courses. The top court had clarified that it is not embarking into the policy domain but is only trying to ascertain whether constitutional principles have adhered or not. It had asked the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) to file their affidavits in a week's time and had formulated questions to be answered by the Centre. The top court had said, Tell us if you want to revisit the criteria or not. If you want us to discharge our duties, then we are ready to do so. We are formulating questions which you need to answer them . It had added, We may stay the government notification fixing rupees eight lakh criteria for determining the EWS and you can keep filing the affidavits . The top court was hearing a batch of pleas challenging the Centre and Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) July 29 notice providing 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Class (OBC) and 10 per cent for EWS category in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) admissions for medical courses. It had asked searching questions from Centre, and asked whether any exercise was undertaken before fixing a limit of Rs 8 lakh annual income for determining the EWS category. It had said the court is not going to tell the government as to what should be the limit whether it should be rupees four lakh or rupees six lakh because it is for the executive to decide but all it wants to know is on what basis Rs. 8 lakh criteria was fixed. For determining creamy layer in Other Backward Classes (OBC) category the limit was fixed as Rs 8 lakh annual income and they were considered progressed class among OBCs and they were excluded from reservation benefits. Here, for the EWS category, the limit is the same Rs 8 lakh annual income but it was for inclusion in the reservation benefits, the top court had said. On October 7, the top court had posed searching questions to the Centre on its decision to fix a limit of rupees eight lakh annual income for determining the EWS category for reservation in NEET admissions. The Centre had then said fixing a limit of Rs eight lakh annual income for the EWS category is a matter of policy based on the National Cost of Living Index. On September 17, the top court has agreed to hear a batch of pleas of students against the July 29 notice providing 27 per cent reservation for OBC and 10 per cent for EWS category in 15 per cent UG and 50 per cent PG All India Quota seats (MBBS/BDS and MD/MS/MDS) with effect from the current academic session 2021-22. Wall Street: Coinbase flew too close to the sun

Tablet shipments recorded a year-on-year growth of 20.4% in Q3 2024, after reporting a 22.1% year-on-year growth in Q2 2024. According to a report by IDC, 39.6 million tablets were shipped worldwide in Q3 2024, up from 32.9 million devices shipped in Q3 2023. While the tablet market is not expected to reach the levels recorded during the pandemic with an increase in online education and work-from-home, the increase in shipments is part of a refresh cycle. "There are several appealing opportunities for vendors to increase their presence in the tablet market - collaboration with educational institutions, entertainment and gaming, cross-device Worldwide tablet shipments grow by 20.4% in Q3 2024, Apple leads with over 31% market share

Tablet shipments hit a 12-year low declining by over 20% in 2023

While the tablet market is not expected to reach the levels recorded during the pandemic with an increase in online education and work-from-home, the increase in shipments is part of a refresh cycle. "The tablet market started showing signs of recovery in the first quarter. The real gains will come from the next refresh cycle, followed by growth within commercial segments as more tablets are used in the education sector and the gig economy," said Anuroopa Nataraj, senior Apple, which currently leads the market reported an 8.5% decline in shipments from 10.8 million in Q1 2023 to 9.9 million in Q1 2024. Apple’s poor performance has been attributed to the absence of new models from the company and the overall economy. Samsung on the other hand reported a decline of 5.8% from 7.1 million units shipped in Q1 2023 to 6.7 million units in Q1 2024. Similar to Apple, the lack of new products is the reason for Samsung’s decline in shipments. Huawei shipped 2.9 million units in Q1 2024, up from 2 million units in Q1 2023, recording a 43.6% growth in shipments. Lenovo reported a slight increase in shipments at 13.2%, shipping 2.1 million units in Q1 2024, up from 1.9 million during the same period last year. Xiaomi recorded the highest growth at 92.6%, shipping 1.8 million devices, up from 0.9 million units. The two companies hold a combined market share of over 50%. Apple and Samsung are both expected to soon launch new tablets, which are likely to be packed with AI features. Large smartphones, such as foldables and thinner laptops have reduced the popularity of tablets. While companies like Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi have their foldable phones, Apple is still lagging in this department. “The attrition driven by competition from PCs and smartphones will contribute to a lacklustre outlook for the tablet market. Worldwide tablet shipments grow in Q1 2024 after two years of decline

Apple shipped 10.8 tablets with 35.2 per cent share in Q1, followed by Samsung at 23.1 per cent share and shipping 7.1 million units. Huawei was third with 6.6 per cent share (2 million units), according to preliminary data from from the International Data Corporation (IDC). Worldwide tablet shipments posted decline of 19.1 per cent (year-over-year) in the first quarter of 2023, reaching 30.7 million units. The low shipment volume is now comparable to pre-pandemic levels. Shipment volume in 1Q23 was comparable to the 30.1 million units shipped in Q1 2019 and 31.6 million in Q1 2018. "Tablet vendors entered the first quarter of 2023 with caution. As expected, both commercial and consumer volumes were low as macro environment remained uncertain throughout Q1," said Anuroopa Nataraj, senior research analyst with IDC's Mobility and Consumer Device Trackers. According to the report, sell-in shipment in the first half of 2023 is expected to be low, with vendors focusing on clearing out their inventory before the launch of newer models. Chromebook shipments also continued to contract in Q1 with shipments totalling 3.8 million units for a year-over-year decline of 31 per cent year over year. "Despite the downturn in tablet shipments, there's some reason for optimism as more vendors are paying attention to the space," said <keyword id="1591500" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jitesh-ubrani" source="Orion">Jitesh Ubrani</keyword>, research manager. The headline index rose to 2.0 from -12.5 last month.
The number indicates that business conditions in the region moved into expansion mode from contractionary territory last month.
Economists were expecting a slighter gain – to -3.0 – which would have indicated a continued contraction in the region.

<h3 style="padding-left: 30px;">Indicators Suggest Increased Activity</h3>
The survey’s broadest measure of manufacturing conditions, the diffusion index of current activity, increased from a reading of -12.5 in February to 2.0 this month (<a href="http://www.phil.frb.org/research-and-data/regional-economy/business-outlook-survey/2013/bos0313chart.jpg" title="Chart of General Activity" class="colorboxImage cboxElement">see Chart</a>).* The demand for manufactured goods also showed improvement this month: The new orders index increased from a reading of -7.8 in February to 0.5, its first positive reading in three months. The shipments index showed continued improvement: The index remained positive and edged higher to 3.5. The percentage of firms reporting increased shipments (25 percent) was still only slightly greater than the percentage reporting declines (22 percent).
Labor market conditions showed continued signs of stability, but little overall growth. The employment index increased from 0.9 in February to 2.7 this month, its second consecutive positive reading. The percentage of firms reporting employment increases (17 percent) narrowly exceeded the percentage reporting decreases (14 percent). Firms also reported a decline of average work hours this month. The workweek index declined 11 points.
<h3 style="padding-left: 30px;">Indexes Indicate Little Price Pressure</h3>
The survey’s price indexes suggest little price pressures again this month. For the third consecutive month, the prices received index was slightly negative. The percentage of firms reporting lower prices for their own manufactured goods (9 percent) exceeded by a slim margin the percentage reporting higher prices (8 percent). With regard to purchased inputs, 17 percent of firms reported paying higher prices for inputs, compared with 13 percent last month. The prices paid index edged slightly lower and is now at its lowest reading in nine months.
<h3 style="padding-left: 30px;">Six-Month Indicators Improve</h3>
The survey’s future indicators suggest that firms expect growth in business over the next six months. The future general activity index increased slightly from a reading of 32.1 to 32.5, its fourth consecutive monthly increase (<a href="http://www.phil.frb.org/research-and-data/regional-economy/business-outlook-survey/2013/bos0313chart.jpg" title="Chart of General Activity" class="colorboxImage cboxElement">see Chart</a>). The percentage of firms expecting increases in activity over the next six months (46 percent) exceeded the percentage expecting decreases (13 percent). The indexes for future new orders and shipments showed a mixed pattern this month. The future new orders index decreased 4 points, while the future shipments index increased 1 point. The future employment index fell notably, from 14.9 to 8.1. Twenty-four percent of firms expect to increase employment over the next six months; 16 percent expect to decrease it.
In special questions this month, firms were asked about their expectations for capital spending for 2013 compared with 2012 (<a href="http://www.phil.frb.org/research-and-data/regional-economy/business-outlook-survey/2013/bos0313.cfm#sp">see Special Questions</a>). Over 39 percent of the firms indicated that total capital spending would increase this year compared with 2012; 32 percent indicated that spending would decrease. With the exception of noncomputer equipment, most categories of planned capital spending were being scaled back this year. Among firms that did not plan to increase capital spending, the most cited reasons were low sales growth, low capacity utilization, and limited need to replace capital and technology equipment.
<h3 style="padding-left: 30px;">Summary</h3>
The March Business Outlook Survey indicated an improvement in the region’s manufacturing sector this month. Most notably, the indicators for general activity and new orders improved markedly, and the survey broadly recorded positive readings this month. Responses suggest that firms expect further increases in business over the next six months. Although firms are generally optimistic, restrained capital spending plans are in evidence.
