The program is a part of PayPal’s commitment towards nurturing a culture of <keyword id="61889" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Diversity">diversity</keyword> and inclusion in the technology industry.

Recharge is open to women who have taken a personal career break for a period of 1-5 years, with at least 5 years of work experience in product development and analytics and with backgrounds in Java, J2EE, PEGA, test automation, release engineering, risk analytics. Interested applicants can submit their resumes to rechargeindia@paypal.com. Registrations will close on March 20th, 2017. 
 
Recharge aims to equip women technologists with skills and the confidence required to help them get back to work and jumpstart their careers after a break. The pilot Recharge program in 2016 received over 300 applications from women with work experience of at least 5 years in product development and analytics, who had taken a career break. Of this, 75 were invited to an event that helped them build their confidence and interview skills, followed by a boot camp that 30 shortlisted women attended. Finally, 10 participants were given the opportunity to join PayPal and continue their professional journey at the end of the initiative.

Recharge will be rolled out in three phases, starting with a launch in Chennai and Bangalore during the last week of March, giving around 100 women the opportunity to network with PayPal and industry leaders. They will also learn about various tools to get back into the workforce, such as updating their resumes, key skills required for a good interview and effective soft skills training. 
 
A round of interviews will then narrow down the attendees to 30 Rechargers who will enter a three-week technology boot camp conducted by PayPal as well as key industry leaders. The boot camp will focus on technology and business-oriented training to help the participants get up to speed with the latest in the industry.

PayPal's 'Recharge Programme' wants women technologists on a break to get back to work

<ul class="summary-list"><li>GitHub Copilot, launched in 2021, uses generative AI to help programmers write code.</li><li>The technology was created by OpenAI, the Microsoft-backed creator of ChatGPT.</li></ul>While ChatGPT has spurred a lot of excitement around artificial intelligence, the conversational chatbot is not the only technology to come from OpenAI.The Microsoft-backed company has developed a slew of generative-AI products, including one called Codex that's already helping engineers become more productive. Codex is the basis for GitHub Copilot, a tool that functions as a sort of autocomplete for software engineers. Copilot looks at the code an engineer is writing and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chatgpt-openai-codex-developer-jobs-2023-2">suggests the next few lines they might want to write</a> to solve their problem. Users can also write a comment in human language describing the program they want to build, and Copilot will provide a suggested solution.Software engineers often have to put together scaffolding, or boilerplate code software needs. Because the code is so common, Copilot can easily reproduce it. GitHub has said that in files where it's enabled, Copilot is responsible for <a href="https://github.blog/2022-06-21-github-copilot-is-generally-available-to-all-developers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">upward of 40%</a> of the written code. Engineers who spoke with Insider said it had already proved a major boon for productivity. <h2>Copilot can help developers become more productive</h2>Cyrus Ghazanfar, the chief technology officer at the 401(k)-management startup <a href="https://meetbeagle.com/">Beagle</a>, said his company began experimenting with Copilot in recent months. He now requires his team of three engineers to use the tool because he quickly found it saved him plenty of time by eliminating rote work. Already, Copilot has proved useful for creating databases, he said."In these frameworks, there's a specific way of creating databases," Ghazanfar said. "I find Copilot super useful because there's a lot of repetition when you do these kinds of things."For example, many databases have the same properties, like a timestamp that says when the data was created. Ghazanfar said he could now use Copilot to build a database with these properties. Bill Mers, the vice president of engineering at <a href="https://lookdeep.health/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">LookDeep Health</a>, said it's "almost creepy" when Copilot figured out exactly what code he's trying to write. Copilot gleans its knowledge from the large corpus of projects on GitHub, but it also uses the context of the project an engineer is working on to suggest tailored code. Mers estimated that Copilot had saved him 10% of the time he would've normally spent coding. Occasionally, he writes comments inside his code explaining to other engineers what exactly the scripts were designed to do, and Copilot can pick up on that and write human-language descriptions of exactly what the code is doing."That was a bunch of typing, a bunch of thinking, I didn't have to do," Mers said.<h2>Copilot is sometimes inaccurate</h2>While Copilot's suggestions are "pretty accurate," using the tool can be a double-edged sword because it's easy to trust it too much, Ghazanfar said, which means the developer must go back and correct errors when the suggested code doesn't work. Even former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman, who oversaw Copilot's launch, has spoken about the product's flaws. At a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chatgpt-generative-ai-genai-jasper-conference-crypto-san-francisco-2023-2">recent event</a> in San Francisco, he compared using Copilot to a lottery experience. Programmers write their code, and while Copilot's suggestions are frequently wrong, every now and then it passively suggests an answer that perfectly solves a developer's need, Friedman said.Though Copilot may be good at solving common programming needs, like ChatGPT, it is prone to "hallucination," a term the AI industry has adopted to describe chatbots <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ai-chatbot-chatgpt-google-microsofty-lying-search-belief-2023-2">confidently suggesting answers that are completely made up</a>."Copilot will give you a very compelling answer that looks great, and this code looks great, and these API calls look great. But then it turns out the APIs don't even exist," Mers said, referring to application programming interfaces, which help apps communicate with each other. In other words, if developers don't already understand what they're looking for, they'll quickly get stuck using Copilot. That's why engineers <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chatgpt-openai-codex-developer-jobs-2023-2">likely won't go extinct anytime soon</a>."Sure, you could create a basic iOS app with Copilot," Ghazanfar said. "But to do more-complicated things you need to know what you're trying to ask, how to fix the suggested code when it's wrong, and the best way to write code when it's not a super opinionated framework where there's just one way of doing things."

Flipkart Ventures invests in 6 early-stage tech startups

Education start-ups in India seem to be the hottest targets right now, going by the kind of <keyword id="6357455" type="EVENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Funding">funding</keyword> they are attracting from local and global investors. A couple of days ago, Delhi-based start-up <keyword id="1974964" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Avanti-Learning-Centres">Avanti Learning Centres</keyword> raised an undisclosed amount in <keyword id="948731" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="seed-funding">seed funding</keyword> from <keyword id="1894311" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Pearson-Affordable-Learning-Fund">Pearson Affordable Learning Fund</keyword> (<keyword id="1954796" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="PALF">PALF</keyword>). Two more <keyword id="6365770" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="angel-investors">angel investors</keyword> also took part in the round. Avanti will use the <keyword id="1974977" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Seed-round">seed round</keyword> to develop an <keyword id="1974975" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Online-offline-learning">online-offline learning</keyword> &amp; monitoring system, create more <keyword id="755302" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="educational-content">educational content</keyword> and build new <keyword id="68244" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Learning-centres">learning centres</keyword>.  The reward for the winner includes a flight ticket to the international finals, credits from Amazon, Cameras and credits from <keyword id="10387" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Microsoft">Microsoft</keyword> and <keyword id="6357455" type="EVENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Funding">funding</keyword> pitch with Indian Angel Network for the semifinalists. 

	The unique challenge saw participation from 32 startup which included both Indian and International ones. This was internationally the Kickoff event of the new GITR season. The international event which is targeted at innovative startups in India and abroad was co-hosted by DHI Labs, a German based Start-up Incubator venture at Impact Chapter: Startup Challenge in Hyderabad. The event was held at Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), HICC Complex , Near HITECH City, Hyderabad, Telangana. Between 2012 and 2014, the concept of Get In The Ring spread rapidly around the world. Startups enter boxing ring to capitalise their talent

Failing to establish his own start-up inspired Rajat Tandon to set up a platform to connect with start-ups, nurture them, and give them a physical warehouse and to get investors and mentors on board. The Vice President of 10,000 <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Startups-were-definitely-let-down-by-Budget-2016-Heres-why/articleshow/51207320.cms">Start-ups</a>, a <keyword id="6372077" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nasscom">Nasscom</keyword> initiative has now successfully impacted 1350 start-ups and got 50 fully funded, set up 10 warehouses across 22 cities in 3 years. 

	“<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Nasscom-plans-to-frame-a-standard-definition-of-digital/articleshow/50961676.cms">Nasscom</a> delivers what the industry needs. It was time for the new wave of the industry. The whole objective was to help 10,000 startups to be successful by 2023,” he said.
 The program ran four Konnect phases so far and has recently launched the fifth phase which is the biggest Konnect to date. In its last four phases, a total of 11,000 startups applied, 1,100 shortlisted and 500 have been impacted by way of <keyword id="6357455" type="EVENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Funding">funding</keyword>, acceleration and mentoring. Some of their impacted startups include SmartVizX, Lazylad, EnglishDost, Flutura, SeekSherpa, Faircent, Hiree, Sliderule, Vidgyor, CustomerXPS to name a few. 

	Talking about his own venture that he had tried to nurture for two years before giving up, he said payments collection is always the issue. 
 

	When one starts, they try to solve a problem. They need that initial support. Mentorship is one of the biggest challenges, he added.
 

	“Nurture up, build something, build across an incubation centre and get a mentor on board. Angel investors will come onboard easily,” advised Rajat.

	“If you are a food delivering startup, get the basics of the delivery system right,” he explained.
 

	One also needs to look for complimentary skills. If one is good in developing, another person should be proficient in handling accounts and business.
 

	“And, if you do not have the skills, get the skills. Work for startup.”
 

	For this there is Start-up Warehouse to create a micro-ecosystem where start-ups and entrepreneurs can work together and share their learning and best practices with each other. This also has a virtual platform where corporate can connect with start-ups.
 

	The person should have the attitude.

SUCCESS INSIDER: How much Accenture pays consultants, data scientists, engineers, and computer programmers

BANGALORE: Google is bringing its hugely successful <keyword id="138263" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="startup">startup</keyword> mentorship programme to India, and has already identified over ten startups to be part of it. 
 
Google Launchpad, as it is called, will be a 5-day programme between November 3 and 7 in Bangalore, and will see a number of senior Googlers coming down to mentor the startups in technology, product strategy, user interfaces, user experiences, and marketing. The event will conclude with a demo day where the startups will make a pitch to VCs and investors. 
 "Launchpad is an exhaustive mentorship programme to help startups build at scale. By next year we want to do this every quarter, and a year from then, we hope to do it every month," said Sunil Rao, country head of the startup programme in <keyword id="45395" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Google-India">Google India</keyword>. 
 About 25 startups will be part of it. Among those already selected are CoSight, which helps make sales executives more efficient, iReff Technologies, which allows you to find the best prepaid mobile recharge plan for your needs, and Smart Pocket, which manages all your loyalty cards on the phone. These three are also part of Nasscom's 10,000 Startup programme. Two startups who were winners at the <keyword id="54274" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="MIT">MIT</keyword> Global Startup Labs demo day are also part of it - AdWyze, which provides interactive direct response solutions, and Wazzat Labs, which delivers efficient image processing, computer vision and graphics solutions on mobile platforms. 
 
Others identified so far are Bluehat Education, an e-learning firm, CashKumar, which allows you to get the best rate on foreign exchange, and RightDoctor, which helps find the right doctor for your ailment, Frilp, which helps find shops and services used and recommended by your friends, colleagues and other like-minded people, and Expin.me, a storybuilder application. 
 The first edition of Launchpad was launched in Israel a year and half back, and it was so successful that Google has had about 14 of these events there since then, with each batch having 15-20 startups. Launchpad was later taken to <keyword id="6355226" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Brazil">Brazil</keyword>. 
 
For the Bangalore event, there will be about 20 mentors, half of who will be Googlers from California and Israel, including Amit Shevat, Google's startup outreach programme manager. 
 
Rao said startups were being identified based to great extent on the quality of the founding team. "We need people who can really implement the idea. We are also looking for those with a sound business plan and minimum product viability," he said. 
 
Ravi Gururaj, chairman of the Nasscom Product Council, said the Nasscom 10,000 Startups programme was championed by Google India MD Rajan Anandan and the programme had provided a huge booster shot to India's technology entrepreneurial ecosystem. "Google's Launchpad is a similarly innovative compressed bootcamp which will deliver access to world class experts, and knowledge to further help catalyse the Indian startup ecosystem. Launchpad resembles an accelerator on steroids and we would welcome more such programmes," he said.

The number of hot sectors also increased from the usual –e-commerce, healthtech, fintech, edtech and mobility to add social commerce.

What inspired the venture: The zeal to spread the digital revolution. Both Amarendra and Jitendra come from Orissa. But nothing seems to have changed in that state over the past 10 years in spite of the digital revolution around the globe. “Internet could be empowering but only when it reaches people in a way they can use and benefit from it,” observes Amarendra. “But we saw three main obstacles to mass Internet adoption – affordability, accessibility and ease of use. Hence we thought of provisioning some digital content on TV, so that millions of homes can access it on their existing <keyword id="388204" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="television-sets">television sets</keyword> without spending a single penny and without learning how to use a PC. As long as you know how to operate a <keyword id="722747" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="TV-remote">TV remote</keyword>, you are good to go,” he adds. 
 
What’s the pitch: BrizzTV is a ‘first screen’ company that has pioneered next-generation TV viewing. It puts all relevant social buzz alongside the TV programmes on the same screen – so that you won’t require any other <keyword id="1939016" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Companion-device">companion device</keyword>. 
 
How it works: The digi-media technology firm is catering to the B2C segment upfront and it’s just click-and-go for everyday users. However, the real business lies in exploring the B2B segment. For Twitter on TV, the company only needs to tie up with <keyword id="454021" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="dth-service-providers">DTH service providers</keyword> and it will reach their customers in no time. “We don’t require broadcast partners since the service is user-invoked,” explains Amarendra. 
 
Once the tie-up is in place and BrizzTV installs its system, it works in three steps. The firm curates interesting tweets about TV programmes from the Web (based on majority algorithm). Then these tweets are made broadcast-able in a TV network. On the TV side, it overlays these tweets received via broadcast with the TV programmes on viewer opt-in (you can do that by pressing the green button on your remote). 
 Since tweets are converted to broadcast-able format, <keyword id="756327" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="TV-sets">TV sets</keyword> or set-top boxes need not be connected to the Internet for receiving the tweets. “That’s how we are available on all 8.5 million set-top boxes that <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword> has in India,” clarifies Amarendra. 
 The market size for Twitter on TV will be the entire country, according to the founders. The start-up is also targeting a chunk of the print ad pie in India, estimated at over $4 billion, by bringing display ads directly to TV via digital platforms. In a way, that’s creating a new market – <keyword id="1939000" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Digital-ads-on-TV">digital ads on TV</keyword>. The firm has already tied up with <keyword id="279704" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Airtel-DTH">Airtel DTH</keyword> for all its products in a bid to reach millions of homes across India. 
 
Claim to fame: BrizzTV claims to be the first company to bring contextual tweets directly to a broadcast TV network and that too, in real time. It is also the first company to introduce permission advertising/freemium advertising for pay TV. But the founders believe that the real claim to fame lies in throwing open a market that would get bigger every day. “Imagine our reach with Twitter on TV – 8.5 million homes (over 30 million individuals assuming 4 per family) with just one <keyword id="1840316" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="DTH-operator">DTH operator</keyword>. And it’s on six premium channels for at least 2 hours every day. That kind of reach isn’t available even at large destination websites in India. Our reach and time with users are an unparalleled opportunity,” says Amarendra. 
 
Show me the money: Currently, its revenue model is a mix of <keyword id="1939012" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Product-subscription">product subscription</keyword> (for iExam) and advertisement earnings from Twitter on TV and Freemium Movies. However, the company has not reached break-even yet and continues to burn cash on R&amp;D and technology development. 
 The start-up raised an undisclosed amount in Series A from <keyword id="226299" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ojas-Venture-Partners">Ojas Venture Partners</keyword> back in 2011. Prior to that, it had raised a debt grant of Rs 25 lakh from <keyword id="1939005" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nadathur-S-Raghavan-Center">Nadathur S. Raghavan Center</keyword> for Entrepreneurial Learning or <keyword id="226294" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="NSRCEL">NSRCEL</keyword> (a joint set-up of IIM Bangalore and the <keyword id="6623307" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Department-of-Information-Technology">Department of Information Technology</keyword>) where it was incubated.

 As the demand for these new roles rise in the coming years, companies across sectors will seek IT professionals who are skilled to work on new platforms and technologies. This is where res-skilling gains importance. Upskilling and reskilling: The urgency to re-skill or perish is especially striking people with mid-level experience: Nearly 57% of the 7,000 IT professionals looking to level up on Simplilearn had four to 10 years of work experience. Meanwhile, only 11% of those with under four years of experience were seeking the online courses. Rishabh Kaul, co-founder of Indian recruitment firm Belong, says early-stage employees like fresh college graduates are often provided training by employers for the first six months. Chennai, <keyword id="116095" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Space-Research-Organisation">Indian Space Research Organisation</keyword> Chairman K Sivan on Saturday said the space agency was developing '<keyword id="9090354" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="green-propulsion">green propulsion</keyword>' for its <keyword id="10498627" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ambitious-human-space-flight-mission">ambitious human space flight mission</keyword>, 'Gaganyaan'. He also said it may be adopted for use in every stage of a rocket. He was speaking at the 16th convocation of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, near here. Sivan, also the Secretary, <keyword id="245720" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Department-of-Space">Department of Space</keyword>, advised the new graduates to take up 'calculated risk' in their life as it may safeguard them from 'absolute failure'. "As India continues to focus on economic growth, it needs to ensure that environmental damage is limited by adopting green technologies. ISRO has made space grade lithium-ion batteries and this technology is useful for mass adoption of electric vehicle", he noted. On the green propellant, Sivan said, "Even in the rocket propulsion, ISRO is developing green propulsion for its human space flight mission. In future, all the propulsion stages may adopt green propulsion," he said. According to ISRO, <keyword id="622933" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Polar-Satellite-Launch-Vehicle">polar satellite launch vehicle</keyword> (PSLV) a trusted workhorse of the space scientists -- is a four stage rocket filled with fuel which pushes the rocket to ensure that the satellite it carries is placed in the intended orbit. GSLV or a geo-stationery launch vehicle (GSLV) is a three stage rocket with a cryogenic upper stage. The Bengaluru-headquartered space agency had planned to launch its maiden human space flight mission 'Gaganyaan' by December 2021. But early this month, ISRO indicated that it is likely to be delayed by one year due to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic. Addressing students through virtual platform, the ISRO chief encouraged them to take up calculated risk as it would safeguard them from 'absolute failure.' "You may fail, but each failure would provide a valuable lesson. I can say with great confidence that India's space programme has been built on spectacular failures and each failure has resulted in improvements in our system", he said. Asking the students to innovate, Sivan said, innovation was not just having great idea on paper. "Innovation comes with a high risk of failure. You may be called crazy. Initial outcome of innovation may be imperfect. You must realize that you are not failing means you are not trying anything hard", he said. Referring to the space sector reforms announced by the Centre in June, he said, "the government has already announced space sector reforms for greater participation of non- governmental entities in space activity". "Our next PSLV (polar satellite launch vehicle) launch will have satellite from start-up agencies which will be the first product of this reform." he said. On the SRM Satellite 'SRMSAT' launched by ISRO in 2011, he said it was in 'healthy condition' and urged the university to come forward and make use of the space sector reform as announced by <keyword id="1576501" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Government-of-India">the government of India</keyword>. "ISRO is very much open to you all. I request SRM to come forward with their innovative idea of making space activities as required by the Government of India. I am sure that SRM will do this work", he said. The Digital India initiative by the Centre was a key area to leverage and ISRO has already initiated reforms to make digital assets available easily to industry as well as for startups for making innovative applications in navigation, earth observation as well as disaster management, he said.
