Indian start-up companies are looking at 'reverse flipping' - not a cricket terminology - with easy access to capital from private equity and venture capitals, changes in rules regarding round tripping, and the growing maturity of India's capital markets, states the Economic Survey 2022-23. The Survey was tabled in the Parliament on Tuesday. According to the Indian government the above measures have not only slowed down 'Flipping' but companies are also exploring 'Reverse Flipping'. Well, 'Flipping' and 'Reverse Flipping' are not cricket shots. The survey said many Indian companies have been getting headquartered overseas, especially in destinations with favourable legal environments and taxation policies. The technical jargon for this may be identified as 'Flipping', which is the process of transferring the entire ownership of an Indian company to an overseas entity, accompanied by a transfer of all intellectual property rights and all data hitherto owned by the Indian company. "It (flipping) effectively transforms an Indian company into a 100 per cent subsidiary of a foreign entity, with the founders and investors retaining the same ownership via the foreign entity, having swapped all shares," the survey notes. Typically, "Flipping" happens at the early stage of the start-ups, driven by commercial, taxation and personal preferences of founders and investors. Some companies decide to "Flip" because the major market of their product is offshore. Sometimes, investor preferences like access to incubators drive the companies to "Flip" as they insist on a particular domicile. Some companies prefer to domicile in countries where they would like to access Capital Market later for better valuations and ticket size. Better protection and enforcement of IP and tax treatment of Licensing revenue from IP, residential status of Founders, and agile corporate structures have been the reasons for "Flipping" in the past. "Many investors/private equity (PE) funds are based in the US and other places. They also exert pressure on the Indian startup entrepreneurs to move out of India and house their IPRs overseas," an entrepreneur had told IANS preferring anonymity. "Technology companies, primarily B2B, software as a service (SaaS) players and deep tech businesses tend to move out to the US and some towards Singapore. The reason they start in India to begin with is the entrepreneurial talent, active investing ecosystem, solid tech employees and most importantly the ability to develop and run pilots at competitive costs," Sarath <keyword id="293733" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="naru" source="Orion">Naru</keyword>, <keyword id="191679" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="managing-partner" source="Orion">Managing Partner</keyword>, Ventureast, one of the long standing venture capital firms in India had told IANS. According to Naru, the primary reason for them to move out is to be near their market. "Indian market tends to be small for these businesses and not economically viable to continue to invest in technology and be competitive against global players. The US and Southeast Asia offer large ready markets and it makes most economic and strategic sense to be close to the markets," Naru remarked. "Other than the IPR housing reason, investors like the tax regime in certain countries; lower income tax and capital gains taxes. This also attracts the startups to move and later the founders become Non-Resident Indians (NRI)," Kris Gopalakrishnan, Chairman, <keyword id="2602340" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="axilor-ventures" source="Orion">Axilor Ventures</keyword> told IANS. "Some of these governments give specific incentives like rent reimbursements, grants based on local employment etc. Further, the access to capital which does not invest in Indian companies. Finally, <keyword id="88599" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sas" source="Orion">SAS</keyword> companies, especially enterprise SAS, move to the US/UK to be closer to the enterprise customers," Gopalakrishnan added. The Economic Survey said to accelerate 'Reverse Flipping', certain measures like the following are possible: i. Simplifying the process for grant of "Inter-Ministerial Board (IMB) certification" for Start-ups ii. Further simplification of taxation of Employee Stock Options (ESOPs) iii. Simplifying multiple layers of tax and uncertainty due to tax litigation iv. Simplifying procedures for capital flows: Many countries, such as US and Singapore, have easier corporate laws, with lesser restrictions on the inflow and outflow of capital and treatment of Hybrid Securities v. Facilitating improved collaboration and partnerships with established private entities to develop best practices and state-of-the-art start-up mentorship platforms vi. Exploring the incubation and funding landscape for start-ups in emerging fields like social innovation and impact investment. The flipping phenomenon mentioned above reflects start-ups venturing out for short-term gains in the dynamic, uncertain geopolitical world. However, the flip can be reversed with the collective action by the government related regulatory bodies and other stakeholders. It feels like both Disney and Roku sought potentially easier Emmy wins with these titles. Here's hoping it doesn't set a precedent for other straight-to-streaming movies moving forward.

Hulu's excellent 'Prey' deserves to be remembered as more than a 'TV movie'

Hulu's "Prey" is a worthy addition to the franchise as this bloody look at the alien killer's first journey onto Earth delivers ultra-violent action and a powerful story about one woman's quest to becoming a leader.On top of all that, director Dan Trachtenberg ("10 Cloverfield Lane") cleverly included unique callbacks from the "Predator" franchise, including the origin of a hallmark from 1990's "Predator 2."Set in 1719, "Prey" follows the journey of Naru (Amber Midthunder) to becoming a Comanche warrior by setting out to kill a beast in the woods, which, unbeknownst to her, is a killer from another planet.After Naru helps a White settler who is also hunting the Predator, he gives her a flintlock pistol in return. In her final battle with the Predator, the pistol is one of the things she uses to battle it.In the movie's final sequence, Naru returns to her tribe with the severed head of the Predator, showing that the threat is over. She then hands the pistol to the elder of the tribe. "The pistol might have even been in my initial pitch to the studio."However, the pistol already had an origin story.<div type="image" title="pirate tries to shoot the Predator" height="750" width="1150" msid="93391380" hostid="261" sizebytes="153814"></div><h2>A comic has the Predator getting the pistol from a pirate</h2>In a July 1996 <a href="https://avp.fandom.com/wiki/Predator:_1718">Dark Horse Comics anthology series, a story titled "Predator: 1718"</a> features a Predator battling alongside a pirate named Raphael Adolini who gives the Predator his pistol before his death.That was also an idea "Predator" creators Jim and John Thomas had in the mid-1990s for a sequel in the franchise.Trachtenberg said he wasn't aware of the comic or the sequel idea when he and screenwriter Patrick Aison developed "Prey," but has since been filled in on the history."It was only working on the movie that I learned about it," he said. "I was expecting when we got the go-ahead that we would get the 'Predator' bible. 'Here's all the info you need: the words we use, all the weapons that have been used.' That doesn't really exist at the studio. There's been no continuity."This led to a challenge when it came time to track down the pistol prop.<h2>A YouTuber created the pistol you see in 'Prey'</h2>Trachtenberg said he doesn't know where the "Predator 2" pistol is located, assuming it's buried deep in the Fox studio archives. So, "Prey" prop master James Rosenthal was tasked with making it. But in that process, Rosenthal caught a huge break."He ended up on YouTube and was watching a fan vlogger who makes replica weapons," Trachtenberg said. "On the shelf behind him in the shot was the 'Predator 2' gun. So he reached out to that vlogger and said, 'I need that. That looks better than anything I could make.' So the pistol in the movie is from the shelf of this dude."That's right. Trachtenberg admits he's not too concerned."I don't think we've painted ourselves into a corner," he said. "One thing should not drive any sequel, but like in this movie, it's a fun thing to continue to include to make lore out of something that was just an idea. To embrace it."Though no sequel has been announced, the prospect of one looks good. The animated end credits — which Trachtenberg said were created by seven indigenous artists — show the Predator spaceships coming back to Earth for revenge.And Trachtenberg says he has ideas of how to go forward."I've been thinking about this movie since I was in 3rd grade so there is definitely fun stuff brewing inside this universe for me," he said. "It would be awesome to make more.""Prey" is currently available on Hulu.

Martinez was charged with assault causing bodily injury on Thursday and was being held on a $5,000 bond, the <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10218617/Raging-customer-31-threw-RED-HOT-soup-restaurant-managers-face.html">MailOnline reported.</a>Martinez was caught on camera throwing soup in the face of Janelle Broland, an employee of Sol De Jalisco Mexican restaurant in Temple, On November 7.Broland t<a href="https://www.fox44news.com/news/local-news/local/employee-speaks-after-soup-throwing-incident/">old FOX44</a> that the dispute began when Martinez phoned the restaurant to complain that the hot Menudo soup had melted the plastic lid of her husband's to-go soup order.In a viral TikTok video, Broland described what happened next. She explained that she apologized repeatedly and offered Martinez a refund but said: "all [Martinez] wanted to do was yell and cuss."She also says that Martinez swore at her and called her a "bitch." Broland eventually hung up the phone.An angry Martinez returned to the restaurant and another heated exchange ensued. Eventually, Broland said she asked her to leave and said warned that she would call the police. Shortly, afterward, Martinez flung the spicy, warm soup in Broland's face."It really felt like I had been pepper-sprayed," Broland said. "My eyes were burning. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Gender-fluid dad Charlie Carter began posting videos with their one-year-old daughter last year.</li><li>Many of them go viral, and while they receive a lot of support, the response isn't always positive.</li></ul>This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Charlie Carter, and it has been edited for length and clarity.Although I have been creating content on Instagram since I was 14, I was initially trepidacious to post on <keyword id="11894125" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="tiktok" source="Orion">TikTok</keyword> because of its slightly cringy reputation in its beginning stages. But in 2019, I began to post on the platform while working full-time as a debt collector. My videos typically showcased a masculine-to-feminine transformation, allowing me to show off my queer artistry through makeup and fashion. It also created a space for me to explore the fluidity of my gender at a time when I was struggling with feelings of dysphoria around my body and identity.In April 2020, I posted a <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/foryou?is_from_webapp=v1&amp;item_id=6811890182359502086#/@queenaerosol/video/6811890182359502086">15-second video</a> captioned "Bro to Beauty." In the first half I am dressed in a traditionally "male" outfit, and then mid-jump I transform into my femme-presenting self through the use of hair, makeup, and clothing. It quickly went viral, gaining over 360,000 views. I received lots of comments from viewers who speculated there were two different people in the video, and seemed unable to believe both versions were me. I think society is very accustomed to labels and a gender binary, so when someone doesn't adhere to those rules, it can be hard for some people to understand. Since then, I've gone on to post about my life as a gender-fluid parent, featuring my young daughter in some of my videos, which often seem to resonate with viewers. I've grown my platform to over 180,000 followers and received almost 4 million likes on my videos. While I'm delighted to be able to offer more queer representation, the journey hasn't always been easy.<div type="image" title="Charlie Carter's gender-presentation transformation" height="1253" width="1242" msid="92654461" hostid="261"></div><h2>Deciding to post about my daughter was a difficult choice, but it's really resonated with my followers</h2>Initially, I wasn't sure about posting about my one-year-old daughter Myla, as I was concerned about her privacy and safety. But being a dad is a central part of my life and I always aim to be authentic as a content creator. I decided it was important to be open about my experience becoming a parent as a gender-fluid person.I posted my <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@queenaerosol/video/6927703304344505605?is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1">first video with her</a> in February 2021, with us dancing to Carrie Underwood's "Church Bells," followed by <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@queenaerosol/video/6936907403929685254">a video</a> that showed me wearing high heels while pushing her stroller, which I captioned, "We are the future." But the one that really went viral was a <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@queenaerosol/video/6927703304344505605">femme-presentation "get ready with me on a dad day" video</a>, that showed me doing my hair and make-up while caring for her. I realized the video was blowing up when my phone went into overdrive, with constant notifications about comments and likes. It felt completely surreal. To me, it was just a representation of a run-of-the-mill morning for me as a gender-fluid dad, but so many viewers seemed to be in awe, shock, and amazement at what they were seeing. The video has received 9.2 million views and 1.6 million likes. At first, the attention felt like a serotonin boost, but the influx of new followers, messages, comments, and likes was also overwhelming.Some comments expressed "concern" that I was "confusing" Myla with my feminine presentation, but so many more came to my defense in expressing how much of an approachable parent I must be to Myla. Some added they were excited to see the outcome of a future generation that will be so accepting.To me, the response reaffirmed the importance of educating people on the fluidity of sexuality and gender while also challenging the archetype of the traditional parent. After becoming a dad, this became important for me to do. I want to show people that <keyword id="11910745" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="parenting" source="Orion">parenting</keyword> isn't exclusive to cis straight people — it is for everybody. We are also parents and active members of society. <h2>Despite some pitfalls, I'm glad my platform offers an opportunity to increase visibility for people like me</h2>Last year during Pride month I posted a TikTok video that showing me receiving <a href="https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMN8aqd67/?k=1">anti-LGBTQ hate </a>at a train station. It went viral and received over 1 million views.The incident was a frightening and traumatic experience, and while I received a hugely supportive response, it also became overwhelming. People began to approach me in the street which was extremely difficult to navigate and felt overpowering. The experience changed my perspective and I realized millions of views and thousands of comments on my videos were no longer simply numbers on a screen, they were real people. I have been fortunate to cultivate a community of lovely and supportive followers on TikTok, but negative comments and reactions do also occasionally arise, although I believe those commenters are likely indoctrinated by hate.Most importantly, having a platform and going viral several times has allowed me to engage younger viewers, and show them that gender-fluid people exist, and we are just ordinary people.As a working-class gender-fluid child, there was no representation for me and I never thought having my own child would be a possibility. So it's magical that queer youth can see themselves in my experience and have that representation. I would be content being working class for the rest of my life. However I love that my success on TikTok has allowed me to pursue content creation full time, and extended beyond the platform to offer other opportunities.
