We always undervalue them because we think a woman can be paid lower. The need to bring about equal responsibilities at home The other deterrent is the lack of work-life balance. Thousands of women who are a part of the formal workforce also run a household — making it difficult for them to concentrate and excel at work. Nandini Piramal believes that there’s a need to change the expectations and share responsibilities at home. For the first time, I know, my male colleagues were told to run the household together — to pitch in and make sure kids go to school, the washing is done and the food made. If as a woman you are dealing with home, children and work and you want to succeed in all of them then there are not many hours in the day. So we have to change how we bring up our men,” Piramal said. The lens of gender investing In recent years, mainstream investors have been incorporating a gender lens while making investment decisions and have started recognizing the strength of women as a market force. In India, there are some investors like <a href="https://yourstory.com/2019/01/gray-matters-capital-india-investment">Gray Matters Capital </a>and Innoven Capital hold similar strategies while investing in startups. However, Innoven Capital says the number o<a href="https://www.livemint.com/companies/start-ups/why-women-entrepreneurs-are-missing-from-india-s-startup-story-11582267821850.html">f funded</a> startups with at least one female co-founder declined from 17% in 2018 to 12% in 2019. “We have to create systematic programmes. In the US, Melinda Gates has a fund for women entrepreneurs. Early indication is that it has actually been successful. We also have to work on increasing the base, which allows women to think about leadership roles,” Vani Kola, Kalaari Capital said. Kola added there’s still a lot of work to be done to ensure ground-level entrepreneurship. Moreover, there’s also a need to raise awareness about investing in women leaders. Gender lens investing — what needs to be done “I really believe if there can be a small carve-out to focus on women development and women empowerment -- I mean that in terms of financial inclusion -- a lot of miracles can happen. I think everyone needs a helping hand, not a handout. If we can create it that way a lot can happen,” Kola said. Vani Kola suggests dedicating a platform specifically for women entrepreneurs, like the one established by the Telangana government, which can help them get through the beginning stages and provide them confidence. “If we can find something to incubate and support that early start and the capacity to have confidence, we can create an effect,” she added. With steps like ensuring more leadership roles for women and investments with a gender lens focus, India can push for more women empowerment to help transform the economy, build an equal society and a better world. This is the director BV Nandini Reddy’s fourth feature film in the last eight years. The first being Ala Modalaindi in 2011, followed by Jabardasth in 2013 and Kalyana Vaibhogame in 2016. She has spent the last two making two web series, one of which is Gangstars featured on Amazon Prime. The film is minting success not only in South India but in abroad too. The film collected half a million in its opening weekend in the US and is further looking to breach the million dollar club in a few days. Samantha, who was on cloud nine took to Twitter to share her happiness about the film’s response. She wrote: "What a weekend. Thank you for all the Baby love. We are doing back flips."  Dr <keyword id="4130141" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="nandini-bhadaru">Nandini Bhadaru</keyword>’s technique will additionally help the lazy keep their homes clean. Notably, Nandini has been the recipient of the prestigious European Materials Research Society’s (E-MRS’s) Young Scientist Award in 2016 for her research and contribution to materials science.

The woman who helped name me and raise me seemed to be disappearing, her matronly frame thinning along with the silvery hair she effortlessly swept into a bun.<h2 id="90663419-7165-47d3-9669-ef26292676cf">Dementia is anything but normal</h2>An estimated five million people are said to be <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mom-dementia-changed-person-holidays-hard-2024-5">living with dementia,</a> and the CDC expects this number to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cdc.gov/aging/dementia/index.html#:~:text=Dementia%20is%20not%20a%20specific,a%20part%20of%20normal%20aging.">reach 14 million</a> by 2060. Dementia isn't a specific disease but rather a set of symptoms that includes a loss of memory, language, cognition, and problem-solving and interferes with daily routines.There are several causes of dementia, but the most common one is Alzheimer's disease. Memory loss is one of the earliest <a target="_blank" href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/dementia/symptoms-causes/syc-20352013">symptoms of dementia</a> and is often noticed first by other people besides the affected individual.While it's not unusual to forget things as you get older, the type of cognitive and mental decline that's seen in people with dementia is not a normal part of aging. Along with cognitive changes, family members may notice psychological changes as well.In my grandma's case, she seemed to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/age-gap-friendship-mental-health-depression-support-2024-1">lose interest in activities</a> she once enjoyed. As her symptoms worsened, she became increasingly confused and agitated, only giving one-word answers to questions.<h2 id="94e51ecd-e00c-415c-89a7-6edde3e2d625">Meeting my grandma each week</h2>Despite being the youngest of seven, my mom, a single mother of two, didn't have any help from her sisters with caring for my grandma. Eventually, my mom had to make the difficult decision to move my grandma into a nursing home.My mom would visit my grandma daily while my sister and I accompanied her on weekends. Each time I saw my grandma, she would accept my embrace.But her touch felt more like the warmth extended to a friendly acquaintance rather than a child she had known and loved since birth. I would say, "Hi Ma, I'm your granddaughter, Nandini," to which she would nod her head and say, "Yes."It felt like our roles had switched. Just a few years earlier, it was my grandma asking me if I was hungry and wanted something to eat after school and now, I was asking her what she had <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-and-worst-breakfast-dishes-to-order-according-to-chef-2022-5">eaten for breakfast</a> and if she was warm enough in a cardigan.The only times our conversations veered from talking about food and the weather were the rare occasions when she asked me about school. "Did you come first in your class?" she asked me one day.My grandma had a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/2nd-grader-wishes-cellphones-didnt-exist-because-parents-use-so-much-2018-5">second-grade education</a> and wanted her children and grandchildren to succeed in school. When I graduated at the top of my class in university, I thought back to this moment.It struck me that, although she couldn't remember my name, she never forgot about the value of getting an education. And she never forgot that she wanted more for her kids.<h2 id="e6dc3217-73bc-42e0-83bd-e83d3eb4de94">Despite everything, some memories remain intact</h2>The weekend before my 17th birthday, my grandma was receiving palliative care at a hospital for pneumonia. I went to see her, knowing it would probably be the last time.The same woman who had greeted me with a hot meal every day after school was now refusing food and water. I watched as my mom tried to cool my grandma's lips and gums with a pink oral swab."Hi Ma, it's Nan," I said. This time, she didn't look at me or recognize my voice.There was no hint of confusion or agitation on her face. Instead, she seemed eerily calm, staring into the distance.As I held her hand, she reached out and cradled my head in her arms like she had done so many times before. It didn't matter whether she remembered my name or that I was her granddaughter, only that she was a mother comforting a child in pain.<h2 id="80746927-299a-4b93-9a2a-36cef40f2aa0">What I remember most about my grandma</h2>My grandma was a masterful cook, seamstress, and gardener — the epitome of a Trinidadian homemaker. She planted plum trees that survived drought and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hurricane-category-6-wind-speed-prediction-2024-2">hurricane-level windstorms</a>.Her skin and the coffee she drank every morning were the color of warm amber. When I came home from school, she sat by the window in her rocking chair.She bought me the leopard print dress I wore to every birthday and holiday. Aside from living out their dreams on the field, players are expected to balance their academic commitments and personal lives.The show features exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with Head Coach Marcus Freeman and former Head Coach Lou Holtz, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/college-football-needs-8-team-playoff-2018-10">Fighting Irish</a> coaching staff, and players including team captain and cornerback Benjamin Morrison and quarterback Riley Leonard.Being part of this new docuseries is "truly special," Morrison said. He's excited for fans to see the highs and lows they go through as a team and what makes them more than <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nfl-players-wags-power-couples-ranked-2024-2">just football players</a>."I think that people think it's just a quick little practice, and then you go play a game because you're athletic and talented enough," he said. "That's not the case. It's a lot of work and mental stress."Morrison sat down with Business Insider to talk about a typical day at <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/expanded-college-football-playoff-when-which-schools-qualify-2022-12">college football fall camp</a>, what inspires him to be a leader, and how his faith helps him persevere on and off the field.<h2 id="b2f9635f-930f-4e5f-b394-64d93f8ec4a8">Fall camp means long hours dedicated to football</h2>Before the season starts, players attend fall camp, which begins in August and lasts three to four weeks. It's an opportunity to get to know their coaches and teammates while preparing for the season and completing intense training regimens."Going into fall camp, going into my third season, I felt amazing," Morrison said. "It's just fun understanding what's at hand and what type of team we have."A typical day starts with Morrison waking up at 7 a.m. and heading to their training facility called the Guglielmino Athletics Complex, or what players have affectionately nicknamed the "Gug" (pronounced goog). This 96,000-square-foot facility houses the meeting rooms, coaches' offices, locker rooms, and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-use-weight-room-beginner-personal-trainer-tips-2022-10">weight room equipment</a> areas."So, I get to the Gug at around 7:20 a.m., and then get taped, eat breakfast, do all that stuff," he said. "Then we're at a team meeting by 8 a.m. to go over the flow for practice, and we're on the field at 9 a.m."<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/college-football-playoff-teams-schools-2022-11">The Fighting Irish</a> always start practice with ball disruptions. This means practicing how to take the ball away from the opposing offense."We learn to attack the ball in different ways, how to figure out the ball carrier, and how we can get the ball out," he said. "Then we go into pre-practice and go over some small formations, and we'll warm up and attack in practice."<h2 id="ce80393c-faf1-44c2-9ebf-e9ca5d510481">There's time for a mid-day nap to recharge</h2>After practice, the players have a 45 to 60-minute break. Morrison prefers to spend his downtime taking a "power nap.""This will get me through the day to restart, reload, and then get back going," he said. He also enjoys listening to music because it helps him unwind and reminds him of his family, especially his mom and siblings."Music gets me through life," he said. "I love listening to my music and relaxing.He's a big fan of the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lin-manuel-miranda-work-ethic-hamilton-success-2017-12">Hamilton soundtrack</a> and anything by Adele. "I feel like I'm grounded," he said. "You can just pick a tune that really resonates with what you're going through in life and just kind of take it in."<h2 id="98caad2d-337c-4017-833e-eff1455ae7ae">The day continues with more training until 8 p.m.</h2>During team meetings, they recap what happened earlier in the day. "We'll discuss things we can improve on, and how we want to approach the season," he said.As a player and team captain, Morrison never wants to become complacent. He defines complacency as the moment you stop thinking you can improve."No matter win or loss, I want to improve and become the best version of myself and the best teammate I can be," he said. "The moment I become complacent, I hope my cleats are off because I don't want to ever be complacent in this sport."After strategizing with the team, "we'll go lift, and we'll eat and have a walkthrough, and then a little team meeting, and that's the day," he said. "So, I'll end around 8:00 p.m. and get back to the Gug."The time spent in the weight room is integral to training. "Lifting is kind of our foundation, and we pride ourselves on lifts," he said."We have a long season, so we've got to make sure our bodies are up to par with the high demand that football requires," he said. "I think <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/strength-training-better-cardio-burning-fat-2023-10">lifting is what makes us more durable</a>, able to go longer, run longer, and do things at a high level."<h2 id="fbf9a16f-6fe0-430a-b78b-299526c6bd13">Morrison attributes his leadership style to his family and faith</h2>As the youngest of five siblings, who all play competitive sports, Morrison has always felt like he needed to prove himself to his siblings and older friends. "I just pride myself on working hard and not talking a lot," he said.Getting a word in was tough with four siblings, so he learned to "fall in line," and it's similar with football. "I understand that I have a leadership role, but I like to lead by example like how I was raised," he said.Being team captain is a "huge responsibility," he said. "I think Coach Freeman talked about how you have to be unorthodox and challenge things, and I pride myself on standing true to who I am and who I know the team could be."For Morrison, faith means everything. "Last year, I got away from it a little bit," he said. "And I realized I'm nothing without God. I can have all the success and be empty inside."Going forward, his plan is to remain humble and recognize that he's not perfect. "If I just <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/left-goldman-sachs-career-change-pastor-2024-4">honor God</a> in everything I do, the rest will be taken care of," he said. The video shows his dog hogging the blanket, breathing in his ear, and blocking his partner from touching him.The most relatable moment for me is Lower waking up alone and wondering where his dog went. Sharing your bed with a pet is kind of like being an amateur contortionist, but it can also be a <a target="_blank" href="https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/00380385221081365">good bonding experience</a>.Given the importance of sleep for overall health and well-being, you might be wondering if having pets in the bedroom is a good idea. We asked a sleep expert and a veterinarian about the benefits and drawbacks of co-sleeping with pets and how to decide if you need a "sleep divorce" from your beloved companion.<h2 id="0e54b8b3-b372-4c8c-b581-f2abc45b8a68">Co-sleeping with a pet has advantages</h2>Cuddling with a pet can provide a sense of comfort and security. So, it's only natural that you'd want to extend these intimate moments by allowing your pet to sleep in your bed.Research shows that co-sleeping with pets can have a positive or neutral effect on <a target="_blank" href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33406702/">sleep quality</a>. And because pets thrive on having a routine, they might even encourage you to develop a consistent sleep schedule."Co-sleeping with a pet can help with anxiety and stress levels, which could <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tips-for-getting-better-sleep-2023-8">help you sleep better</a>," <a target="_blank" href="https://sleepopolis.com/experts/shelby-harris/">Shelby Harris</a>, director of sleep health at Sleepopolis, told Business Insider. If you live alone or struggle with nightmares, having a pet nearby can be a source of emotional support and companionship.Since animals tend to give off heat while sleeping and their body temperature is higher than ours, dogs, in particular, can make your <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/make-your-bed-more-comfortable-and-luxurious-interior-designers-2024-3">bed feel warm and cozy</a>, Amy Attas, a veterinarian and founder of New York-based practice <a target="_blank" href="https://www.citypetsvets.com/">City Pets,</a> told BI. In addition, people with cats may find it soothing to listen to the sound of purring.<h2 id="3fc7ef47-b38e-46bf-bfab-605d3716346e">Pets can also interrupt your sleep</h2>While co-sleeping may enhance the human-pet bond, pets can disturb your sleep by moving around, snoring, or vocalizing in their sleep, Harris said. A recent study found that co-sleeping with pets can contribute to poorer sleep quality and more <a target="_blank" href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38448628/">severe insomnia</a>.Given their exceptional hearing, pets may be awakened by sounds that people can't hear, causing sleep disruptions. "Pets who are startled in their sleep may have an aggressive response toward the individual in the bed," Attas said.Pets can get sick in the middle of the night and vomit or have diarrhea in bed. "Indoor cats can track soiled kitty litter onto sheets and pillowcases in close contact with a person's face," Attas said. Older pets or those with kidney disease may be prone to urinary incontinence.If your pet goes outdoors, they can <a target="_blank" href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9606909/">introduce dirt and bacteria</a> into your bedroom, affecting the cleanliness of your bed and your health, Harris said. <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/flying-with-pet-allergies-2017-9">Breathing in pet dander</a> can worsen allergy and asthma symptoms.<h2 id="7ec0dd8b-2d3a-496e-b065-6cfb6f960846">The type of pet matters, and where they sleep</h2>Once you've fallen asleep, staying asleep can be challenging with larger pets or multiple pets taking up space. On the other hand, a large breed dog might have a calmer temperament than a smaller or younger dog who gets the zoomies or a cat who enjoys playing at night.As nocturnal animals, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/things-every-cat-owner-should-do-for-their-pet-according-to-vets">cats tend to be more active at night</a> and in the early morning, which can cause more frequent sleep disturbances, Harris said. In contrast, dogs tend to be more adaptable, eventually mirroring their owner's sleep schedule.During the night, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/pets/cat-zoomies">cats may change locations</a>, even sleeping on top of their owners' heads or pillows. Likewise, "dogs tend to reposition themselves more as they relax, which can be disruptive," Attas said.Some pets, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/dad-built-an-elevator-for-his-old-dog-tiktok-video-2023-6">because of age or mobility issues</a>, may require help with getting on or off the bed overnight. They may also need to stretch or change positions to relieve pressure on their joints.<h2 id="e152d9a6-af68-4831-9193-c6cce0bcac2b">How to improve sleep when co-sleeping with a pet</h2>Having a consistent bedtime and wake-up time can be helpful and keep your pet from getting too excited at night. "Make sure your pet is well-exercised and has gone to the bathroom to minimize any night-time activity," Harris said.If you're sharing a bed with your pet, "ensure your bed is large enough to fit you and your pets comfortably," Attas said. You may wish to purchase a waterproof pad to protect your mattress from urine or vomit.Both experts recommended r<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/funny-animal-photos-groomed-pets-2019-7">egular grooming</a> and cleaning to keep your bedroom hygienic and reduce exposure to allergens and parasites. For extra protection against pet dander, consider buying an air purifier with a HEPA filter.Attas said that in addition to training your pet to discontinue disruptive behaviors, you can also use an eye mask and a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/health/white-noise-for-sleep">white noise machine</a> to reduce noise from pets. She also suggested putting your pet's favorite bed on top of your bed to encourage them to stay in one place.If all else fails, a good compromise would be letting your pet sleep in the same room but not in your bed. This setup can help you enjoy your pet's companionship while allowing you to have a restful sleep environment, Harris said.<h2 id="6b4a9018-9cd1-4b1e-a24e-37d7bd2e5e25">What to do if it's time for a sleep divorce</h2>Helping your pet transition out of your bed and into his or her own space requires patience and consistency. If your pet is accustomed to sleeping on a spacious and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/home/best-mattress">comfortable mattress</a>, be sure to invest in a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/pets/best-dog-bed">high-quality pet bed</a> and introduce it to your pet on your bed, initially, Attas said.Place the bed close to where your pet had been sleeping, along with your pet's favorite toys and blankets. Then, sit with your pet on or near the new bed and lie down close to it.Pair commands like sit or down with "positive reinforcement such as a delicious treat to encourage your pet to spend time on the new bed," Attas said. "Provide additional reinforcement if the pet goes to the new bed on their own."If they jump on your bed, you can gently nudge them off or redirect them to their new bed using a treat.
