<ul><li><keyword id="10926" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reliance" source="Orion">Reliance</keyword> pledges to double its recycling capacity to 5 billion <keyword id="6360916" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="pet" source="Orion">PET</keyword> bottles a year. </li><li><keyword id="6484187" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ril" source="Orion">RIL</keyword> announced the launch of a PET plant at <keyword id="61910" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="dahej" source="Orion">Dahej</keyword>, Gujarat. </li><li>The chairman of RIL said that its scientists have had a breakthrough in terms of generating compostable plastics. </li></ul>Addressing the annual general meeting of Reliance shareholders on Monday, <keyword id="3820" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="mukesh-ambani" source="Orion">Mukesh Ambani</keyword> said that the scientists of his company have developed pathways to produce biodegradable and compostable plastics to completely replace single-use plastics. RIL is one of the largest producers of plastics in the world and contributes to a little over half of India’s plastic production, according to a <a href="https://m.timesofindia.com/india/timestopten/msid-82744500,card-82744820.cms?mobile=no">Times of India report</a>. It has however has pledged to fight climate change and is also doubling its recycling capacities. “Reliance is a leader in recycling of polyester and plastics. We will strengthen our leadership position in PET recycling by more than doubling our bottle recycling capacity to 5 billion bottles per year,” said <keyword id="10924" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ambani" source="Orion">Ambani</keyword>. RIL currently recycles 2 billion PET bottles annually at plants in Barabanki, Hoshiarpur and <keyword id="226302" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nagothane" source="Orion">Nagothane</keyword>. To aid this transition, RIL set up a recycled polyester staple fiber (PSF) manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh last August. PET is a recyclable plastic, used in packaging foods and beverages. RIL also announced the launch of a million metric tonne per annum PET plant at Dahej, which will be completed by 2026. This July, the Indian government banned the use of single-use plastics. However, the road to reducing plastic waste is long and hard as plastic of many forms still end up in landfills. India produces 3.5 million tonnes of plastic every year and is the world’s third largest producer of single-use plastics after the USA and China. Ambani said that climate change has endangered that very future of human life. Apart from looking at business opportunities in new energy like green hydrogen, solar PV manufacturing, RIL is also using greener ways to manage its energy needs. Its own renewable energy consumption has jumped by 352% within a year. “We have also started consuming biomass as a fuel to produce green energy and steam to power in Dahej and Hazira sites, reducing 5% of energy consumption by green steam,” said Ambani. The Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Mandir is constructed in traditional Nagara style. Its length (east-west) is 380 feet; width 250 feet and height is 161 feet; and is supported by a total of 392 pillars and 44 doors. The pillars and walls of the temple showcase intricately sculpted depictions of Hindu deities, gods, and goddesses. In the main sanctum sanctorum at ground floor, the childhood form of Bhagwan Shri Ram (the idol of Shri Ramlalla) has been placed.

Ambani family to be in Ayodhya for Pran Pratishtha ceremony

New Delhi, India's largest gas firm GAIL is imitating billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd in planning to import ethane from the US to replace natural gas and naphtha as feedstock at its petrochemical plants. "In a bid towards diversification of the feedstock, GAIL is looking to import ethane from ethane-surplus countries with matured export terminal infrastructure through water borne transportation to India and transport it further through GAIL's pipeline systems to demand centres," the company said in a tender document. It sought quotes to hire a very large ethane carrier (VLEC) for 20 years starting mid-2026 for importing ethane from the US. The ship with capacity of 80,000 to 99,000 cubic metres is targeted to take deliveries from US ports of Marcus Hook, Nederland, Morgan's Point or Beaumont and deliver ethane at Dahej or Hazira in Gujarat or Dabhol in Maharashtra. GAIL has a petrochemical plant at Pata, near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, and is also looking to set up another unit at Usar in Maharashtra. The company had to cut down on run rate at Pata after the government diverted gas supplies from the plant to city gas suppliers. This led to its profitability being impacted and so now the company is looking to supplement the feedstock with ethane. Reliance had in 2014 announced ethane plans in 2014 and started importing the feedstock from the US in 2017. It is importing 1.6 million tonnes per annum of ethane and is using six VLECs for transporting it to India. With ethane replacing propane and naphtha used in ethylene production, Reliance is estimated to have saved about USD 450 million annually. Reliance used 2.5 million tonnes a year of naphtha as feedstock in petrochemical crackers and ethane reduced its use by 5,00,000 tonnes, which now could be exported. Ethane is expected to be produced in large volumes in North America due to the shale gas revolution, which has generated an abundance of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). It is primarily used as petrochemical feedstock to produce ethylene by steam cracking. Ethylene is the starting material for making a wide range of products -- from packaging films, wire coatings, and squeeze bottles as well as plastics and synthetic rubber. Reliance uses ethane at its crackers in Dahej and Hazira in Gujarat and Nagothane in Maharashtra. GAIL in the tender said it is looking at co-transportation of ethane and LNG through the same vessel loaded in separate compartments. "Bidders may indicate whether the vessel offered for time-charter is compatible for part loading of ethane and LNG. In case of co-transportation the primary and secondary fuel options may necessarily be indicated," GAIL said. GAIL said the 20 year charter hire agreement can be extended by a further 5 years. Last date for submission of an expression of interest (EoI) for offering VLECs is February 25.

GAIL takes the 'Reliance route' with its US ethane plans

Maharashtra has reported its third death of a patient infected with the <keyword id="11851635" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="delta-plus-covid-19">Delta Plus Covid-19</keyword> virus variant, as the total number of patients with the variant stood at over 65 till date, officials said. A 69-year-old man diagnosed with Delta Plus has succumbed in Nagothane, Raigad, while a middle-aged woman infected by the same variant is under treatment in nearby Uran town. Late Thursday, the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) received the Delta Plus positive sample reports of a 60-year-old woman from the eastern suburbs of the city, who had passed away on July 24. Prior to that, the first patient of Delta Plus in the state -- an 80-year-old man -- had expired in Ratnagiri on June 25, said the officials. On Wednesday, the Maharashtra Health Department had pegged the number of Delta Plus variant patients in the state at 65 till date, as per data from the Institute of Genomics Integrative Biology lab. Among these 65, the highest 13 are from Jalgaon, 12 from Ratnagiri, 11 from Mumbai, six each in Thane and Pune, three in Palghar, two each in Raigad, Nanded, and Gondia, and one each from Sindhudurg, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Sangli, Beed, Nandurbar, Akola, and Chandrapur. The patients include 33 women and 32 men, and a whopping 33 cases -- or nearly half -- of those infected are in the 19-45 age group, while 17 are 46-60 years and seven in above-60 age group. As a precaution, the Health Department has started searching for the close contacts of these infectees on a war footing, their travel history, vaccination status, recent medical status and other relevant details to prevent more infections, said the officials. How about a hotel?Rhea Silva is the 24-year-old founder of <a href="http://www.chototel.co.uk/">Chototel</a>, a chain of super-budget hotels where the price per night can range from $2 at the cheapest to a surge price of $5 at its most expensive.Her company is piloting four hotel buildings in Nagothane, a small Indian town about 72 miles outside of Mumbai. The first is opening next month, while the other three are coming in the following four months. "<a href="http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2015/07/28/u-s-homeownership-rate-hits-48-year-low/">Homeownership has dropped to its lowest rate since 1965</a>. And that's because people, aren't possessive about the idea of owning a house anymore. They're more into the idea of convenience." Of course, nightly rent isn't the only way the hotel will make returns. There are also utilities, which are all metered and charged by usage. So, theoretically, you could stay a night without turning on a light or using water or heat and pay around $2 for the benefit of having a clean room with a bed and free Wi-Fi. But if you need those utilities, there are tools that can help you save on usage and costs. Silva says that the rooms are outfitted with microbots, which take in several data points to report back to the hotel and the tenant. That way, there's a transparent two-way exchange of information about the tenant's consumption and habits.The tenants can also monitor their consumption through a smartphone app, which, like with a smart home system, also allows them to turn off a utility remotely.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image">Courtesy ChototelThe first of the Nagothane hotels will open next month, and the rest will follow in three to four months.</div></div></div>And what if you don't have a phone? Is there any way to track your usage then? While you might think the sort of person who can't afford rent can't afford a smartphone, Silva thinks differently."Smartphones today are very, very cheap and very affordable and a lot of people use their smartphone as a means for communication," she said.Indeed, India is the world's <a href="http://qz.com/608005/india-has-overtaken-the-us-to-become-the-worlds-second-largest-smartphone-market/">second-largest market for smartphones</a>, and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/smartphone-prices-drop-as-accessories-rise-2016-2">they're still getting cheaper</a>. So it's likely many of Chototel's tenants will at least have a device that's able to run the app. The amount of fine tuning and flexible scheduling Chototel allows for puts it squarely between a budget hotel and affordable housing. Silva avoids the latter term because she says she wants people to feel the privilege and comfort of saying they're staying in a hotel rather than call it a project.And while the first few pilot hotels are being funded through the company's own equity, Chototel is planning on raising finances in the public market in the next month to fund the next few expansions.The pilot will kick off with these four hotels, but Silva says that if they prove sustainable, her company will raise funds to scale up, massively. She says that her next location in Mumbai, if Nagothane proves useful, could house up to 10,000 occupants.And that flexible model, which isn't as easily replicable in public housing, is winning some public support from local municipalities, too - enough that the company is planning on several expansions within the next few years.
