NFR officials said that uninterrupted rains coupled with the difficult terrain severely affected the restoration and repair work, which might take several weeks. Of the 25,073 PLHIV, 45 per cent are female and three per cent are children, it said. The HIV prevalence rate in Assam is 0.09 per cent, lower than the national prevalence rate of 0.21 per cent, the ASACS said in a release, quoting the NACO HIV Estimation Report 2021, on the occasion of <keyword id="34644" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="world-aids-day" source="Orion">World AIDS Day</keyword> on Thursday. The total number of people alive by taking AntiRetroviral therapy (<keyword id="1105" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="art" source="Orion">ART</keyword>) is 10,765 in the state. <keyword id="6403345" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kamrup" source="Orion">Kamrup</keyword> (Metropolitan) district has the highest number of cases at 7,610, followed by Cachar with 5,200, Nagaon 16,02 and Dibrugarh 1,402. Regarding the route of transmission in Assam, 81.63 per cent is through sex between heterosexuals, 5.54 per cent is through HIV-infected syringe and needles, parent to child is 4.76 per cent, homosexual route is 4.61 per cent, 0.85 per cent through blood transfusions and 2.61 is not specified, it said. 25,703 people living with HIV in Assam: ASACS

Guwahati, Jun 13 () Twenty-five new COVID-19 cases were reported in Assam, taking the state's tally to 3,718, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday. Of the new cases, 10 are from West Karbi Anglong, five from Jorhat, three each from Baksa and Karbi Anglong, two from Dhemaji and one each Golaghat and Nagaon, the minister said. Of the total 3,718 cases, 2,123 are active cases as 1,584 people have been cured and discharged from different hospitals of the state and three people had migrated out of the state, the minister said. Eight people have died due to COVID-19 in the state. On Friday, the state reported 263 positive cases including 195 late in the night, while 152 patients were discharged from various civil, district and model hospitals after being tested negative, he said. Kamrup (Metro) has the highest number of positive cases, followed by Dhubri, Hojai, Golaghat and Nagaon. Guwahati city, which falls under Kamrup (Metro), has more than 60 active cases, including an 11-month old child. The district administration has declared 36 areas in the city as containment zones.

Guwahati, May 27 () Four new COVID-19 positive cases were reported in Assam on Wednesday, taking the total to 686, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. Three new cases were reported from Nagaon and one from Dhemaji, the minister said. "4 new cases of #COVID19+ reported. Three Nagaon, One Dhemaji", he tweeted. Of the total 686 COVID-19 cases, 617 are active cases, 62 have recovered and discharged from hospital, three have migrated to other states and four have died Sarma said that the latest cases of increasing COVID- 19 patients are mostly those who have returned to the state from other states. He said that swabs are collected from people soon after they arrive from outstation, before they are transferred to the quarantine centres and most of the positive cases in Assam are imported and not home-grown. The Assam Cabinet on Tuesday stressed on strict quarantine for people coming from outside to the state in view of the reported spike of positive cases and all coming from outside will be sent for institutional quarantine and no home quarantine will be allowed for the first seven days till the results of the swab tests are received. Meanwhile, a Microbiology Laboratory has been set up at Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati as an annexe of Guwahati Medical College and this shall increase the sample testing for COVID19 to a large extent, the minister said. He said the laboratory will start functioning soon. Assam has seven other laboratories where 72,564 samples have been tested so far with 686 testing positive, 66,562 found negative and the remaining results are awaited, according to the bulletin of the state Health and Family Welfare department. The state government is following the policy of declaring containment and buffer zones after positive cases are declared in particular areas and as of date, there are 46 containment zones with Kamrup (Metro) having the highest of 14 followed by six each in Cachar and Bongaigaon, Dhubri with four, Kamrup (Rural) with three, Golaghat, Goalpara and Bishwanath with two and one each in Majuli, Charaideo, Karbi Anglong, Kokrajhar, Karimganj, Hojai and Nagaon. Meanwhile, ten domestic flights are scheduled to arrive and depart from the Lokopriyo Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on Wednesday after flight services resumed on Monday, an airport spokesperson said. (Eds: Adds details) Guwahati/Nagaon, Apr 7 () An opposition MLA in Assam was arrested and sent to 14 days' judicial remand on Tuesday for making "objectionable" remarks about quarantine facilities and hospitals treating COVID-19 patients, calling them worse than detention centres.Aminul Islam, the All India United Democratic Front legislator from Dhing constituency, was apprehended early Tuesday after preliminary interrogation, Director General of Assam Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta told .An audio clip of a telephonic conversation purportedly between Islam and another person was doing the rounds on social media, in which the lawmaker can be heard talking "disparagingly" about the quarantine facilities and hospitals.He also purportedly said these facilities were worse than detention centres.Hundreds of suspected illegal migrants and doubtful citizens are lodged in detention centres across Assam."We have registered a case against him under various sections of the IPC for criminal conspiracy, spreading disaffection between communities, among others," the DGP said.He said the Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker has been informed about the development.Islam was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Gautam Daimary, who sent him to 14 days judicial remand after rejecting police's request to have the MLA's custody for five days.Accordingly, the legislator was sent to Nagaon Central Jail, officials said.The AIUDF headed by Badruddin Ajmal sought to distance itself from the legislator's controversial remarks, saying the views are his and the party does not endorse them. The BJP, however, made a scathing attack at the AIUDF on the matter.Addressing a press conference, Nagaon Superintendent of Police Gaurav Abhijit Dilip said, "We received a complaint last evening about an audio clip allegedly circulated by Aminul Islam. The clip has content which are communal in nature." The case was registered at Nagaon police station and the MLA was called for interrogation, he added."During interrogation, Islam confessed that the voice in the clip was his. Secondly, he confessed the clip was made by him. The clip was therein his mobile phone also and we seized the phone. He said he had forwarded it to some people," Dilip said.All those who had forwarded the clip will also come under the purview of the inquiry and action will be initiated against them, he said, adding,"Investigation is going on to ascertain the role of other people and the motive behind the clip."Reacting to the development, BJP MLA Rupak Sarmah said, "This MLA has made communal statements on many occasions earlier also and we are ashamed of those. At this moment, there is nothing called Hindu or Muslim. Our only fight is against COVID-19. Assam MLA sent to jail for calling COVID-19 hospitals worse than detention centres

(Eds: Adds details) Guwahati, Jun 3 () With a single-day record of 269 cases, Assam's COVID-19 tally crossed the 1,800-mark on Wednesday, state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. Breaching the 1,600, 1,700 and 1,800 marks in a single day, the state reached the total of 1,830 cases by recording 158 new ones in the evening, 51 in the afternoon and 60 in the morning, he added. Among the 158 new cases reported in the evening, there are two air travellers, 59 are from Dhubri, 30 from Dima Hasao, 20 from Hojai, 14 each from Nagaon and Biswanath, 10 from Dibrugarh, three from Kamrup, two each from Karimganj and Udalguri, one each from Cachar and Lakhimpur, Sarma said. Of the 51 cases reported in the afternoon, 28 are from Dhubri, 13 from Darrang, five from Karimganj, three from Sonitpur and two from Lakhimpur. Of the 60 new cases reported in the morning, 38 are from Dhubri, 18 from Golaghat and four from Nagaon, he added. Dhubri recorded the highest number of 125 cases during the day and was followed by Dima Hasao (30), Hojai (20), Golaghat and Nagaon (18 each), Bishwanath (14), Darrang (13), Dibrugarh (10), Karimganj (seven), Kamrup, Lakhimpur and Sonitpur (three each), Udalguri (two) and Cachar (one). Meanwhile, 76 patients were cured and released from various hospitals, taking the number of discharged patients in the state to 413. Thirty-nine patients were released from Sonapur Civil Hospital, 10 from Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College Hospital, seven from Dima Hasao Civil Hospital, five each from Lakhimpur Civil Hospital and Golaghat Civil Hospital, four from Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, three from Jorhat Medical College Hospital, two from Silchar Medical College Hospital and one from Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital. Of the 1,830 cases, 1,410 are active, while 413 people have recovered and have been discharged from hospitals, four persons have died and three have migrated out of the state, the minister said. Meanwhile, the third flight under the Vande Bharat Mission was scheduled to arrive at the Lokopriyo Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport from Ukraine's Kiev past midnight, an Airports Authority of India (AAI) spokesperson said. A repatriation flight from Russia, carrying 37 passengers, arrived past midnight and another from Kuwait with 155 passengers arrived on May 29. Thirty of these air travellers have tested positive for COVID-19. Altogether 66 air passengers have tested positive for the disease so far in the state since flight operations resumed on May 25. Assam has recorded a steep increase in the number of COVID-19 cases since inter-state movement began, but with increased testing facilities, the state government's aim now is for reduced institutional quarantine and increased home quarantine. Besides erosion of river banks at a large number of places, roads, embankments, bridges, culverts and other infrastructure were damaged at many locations in 24 districts, the officials said, adding that hundred of houses were fully or partially damaged due to the floods. Around 14 lakh domesticated animals and over 8 lakh poultry birds were affected. Besides Kaziranga National Park, located on edge of the eastern Himalayan biodiversity hotspots of Golaghat and Nagaon districts, the Manas, R.G. The floods have also caused erosion in Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Morigaon and Nalbari. There have been relief camps and centres opened in the affected areas with a total of 1,619 people admitted as of now.
