According to Nadja Drabon, a geologist at Harvard who led the study, "We think of impact events as being disastrous for life. But what this study is highlighting is that these impacts would have had benefits to life, especially early on."<br /><h2>Life in the wake of destruction</h2>So how exactly did life survive — and even thrive — after such a <keyword id="23639574" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cataclysmic-event" source="keywords">cataclysmic event</keyword>?<br /><br />The answer lies in two elements: <keyword id="23639572" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="iron-and-phosphorus" source="keywords">iron and phosphorus</keyword>. The giant tsunami stirred up iron from the depths of the ocean, while phosphorus was delivered to Earth by the meteorite and increased erosion. Both elements are essential for life, and in the aftermath of the S2 impact, bacteria that could metabolise iron likely had a field day.<br /><br />Drabon's team found evidence that bacteria quickly bounced back after the meteorite hit, and their populations surged. "What this study is showing is that these impacts might have actually allowed life to flourish," Dragon explains.<br /><br />The clues to this ancient event are hidden in the <keyword id="23639570" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Barberton-Greenstone-Belt" source="keywords">Barberton Greenstone Belt</keyword> in South Africa. This region, one of the oldest geological formations on Earth, contains layers of rock that preserve evidence of past meteorite impacts, including the S2 event. By painstakingly examining these rocks, Drabon and her team have pieced together a picture of the world as it was billions of years ago.<br /><h2>Not a one time event</h2>Their research involves collecting rock samples just centimetres apart and analysing them for chemical signatures that hint at ancient tsunamis, changes in ocean chemistry, and the rise of <keyword id="23639573" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="early-bacterial-life" source="keywords">early bacterial life</keyword> — essentially solving a 3-billion-year-old mystery, one thin slice of rock at a time.<br /><div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="114397797" title="Trump aims for the stars as he links his campaign to Elon Musk&amp;#39;s success at SpaceX" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div>From this, the researchers also deciphered that this wasn't just a one-time event. Each impact may have played a role in shaping the course of life on our planet.<br /><br />Drabon and her team plan to continue exploring the Barberton region, hoping to uncover more details about these <keyword id="23639571" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ancient-impacts" source="keywords">ancient impacts</keyword> and how they influenced Earth's early ecosystems. French designer Manfred Thierry Mugler has died at age 73

<ul class="summary-list"><li>A new study showed evidence of fetal reactions to different foods consumed by their mothers.</li><li>One group swallowed kale capsules, while others ate carrots in pill form.</li></ul><p>Babies may be able to taste and smell before they are born, according to findings of the first study to investigate how fetuses react to various flavors in the womb.</p><p>In a study of about 100 pregnant women in the UK — published online in the journal <a href="https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/09567976221105460">Psychological Science</a> — researchers observed fetuses smiling after their mothers ate carrots and scowling at kale consumption. The fetuses were between 32 and 36 weeks gestation.</p><p>This suggests that during the last three months of pregnancy, fetuses are mature enough to distinguish between different tastes of foods consumed by the mother, lead researcher Beyza Ustun told <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/22/europe/fetus-kale-womb-intl-scli-scn-wellness/index.html">CNN</a>.</p><p>While the findings cannot prove that fetuses prefer carrots to leafy greens, the study adds to growing evidence that suggests babies begin developing their senses of taste and smell in utero, particularly in the third trimester.</p><p>A follow-up study of the same babies post-birth is already underway with the aim of determining whether prenatal exposure affects taste preferences later on, according to a <a href="https://www.eurekalert.org/news-releases/965259">press release</a> from Durham University.</p><p>"We think this repeated exposure to flavours before birth could help to establish food preferences post-birth, which could be important when thinking about messaging around healthy eating and the potential for avoiding 'food-fussiness' when weaning," said Utsun, a postgraduate researcher in the Fetal and Neonatal Research Lab at Durham.</p><h2><strong>A mother's diet may affect a baby's flavor preferences</strong></h2><p>Developing fetuses likely experience flavor by inhaling and swallowing amniotic fluid, the liquid that surrounds and nourishes them in the womb, according to <a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/B9780081002957000025?via%3Dihub">research</a> cited in the recent study.</p><p>Prior to the study, participants were told not to consume anything carrot- or kale-flavored on observation day, and to avoid food and flavored drinks for an hour before their scans. </p><p>Then, researchers gave 35 of the participating women capsules of powdered carrot, and 34 got capsules of powdered kale. Thirty women didn't consume either vegetable as a control.</p><p>The team chose to administer powdered vegetables to ensure that the flavors weren't diluted during digestion — and because many pregnant women couldn't handle the taste of kale juice, Nadja Reissland, a co-author of the study, told <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/babies-womb-smile-carrots-scowl-kale-rcna48737">NBC</a>.</p><p>Past studies have documented how newborns respond to flavors that were introduced before birth in amniotic fluid, or shortly after birth in breast milk. But while prior research has considered flavor preferences post-birth, the latest study is the first to capture how fetuses react to foods ingested by the mother while they are in the womb.</p><h2><strong>High-resolution imaging allowed researchers to see fetal facial expressions</strong></h2><p>The researchers used 4D ultrasound imaging to observe the fetuses' facial expressions. The cutting-edge technology allowed them to capture more precise, frame-by-frame images compared to older imaging techniques.</p><p>About 20 minutes after the women swallowed the capsules, scans showed that fetuses exposed to carrot flavor responded with more facial expressions suggestive of laughter or smiling, while those exposed to kale flavor pressed their lips together in a grimace.</p><p>The ultrasound images showed facial movements similar to those of kids or adults who taste something bitter, such as raising the upper lip or frowning with the lower lip. However, that doesn't mean that the fetuses were expressing an early distaste for kale.</p><p>Speaking to NBC, Reissland said the grimaces observed in the ultrasounds may just be muscle movements in response to bitter flavor, although fetuses are known to make <a href="https://www.dur.ac.uk/news/newsitem/?itemno=17958">increasingly complex facial expressions</a> towards the end of their time in the womb.</p>

They usually play it pretty close to the vest," Proksch told Insider in a recent interview. </p><p>According to the actor, the nature of the twist involving Colin was the reason he was made aware of his character's fate ahead of time.</p><p>"It's going to be very disturbing, I think, for a lot of people," Proksch revealed. It's f*****g orgasmic." Welcome to "The Show," the new TV show based on a novel of the same name by a former Google employee.</br></p><p>Set inside fictional search company The Show, it's a story of drugs, sex, and data that wouldn't look out of place on Netflix's "Black Mirror" - except parts of it are rooted in real experience.</p><p><a href="https://itunes.apple.com/US/app/id1178975492?mt=8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">"The Show" is streaming on Black Pills</a>, a free app that hosts phone-sized drama targeted at millennials, and it doesn't take a Google engineer to work out it's something of an allegory on the omniscient power of Silicon Valley.</p><p>It follows a human behaviour expert (Nadja Bobyleva) and a coder (Colin Bates), who during their first day at The Show's plush campus, devise a plan to destroy the firm's top secret AI programme. The programme that sucks up user data and uses it to predict human behaviour on an unprecedented scale.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Black Pills' show diverges somewhat from ex-Googler Filip Syta's original book, which is a more functional tale of an ad sales executive at The Show, but the author says its arrival is timely amid Facebook's data woes.</p><p>"It's similar to what's going on in reality right now, and I'm happy 'The Show' sparks the debate about the danger of big tech, especially among millennials," Syta told Business Insider, referring directly to the scandal in which Cambridge Analytica scraped the data of 87 million Facebook users.</p><p>But how much of "The Show" is real? Well quite a lot, according to Syta, who worked at Google as an ad sales executive between 2012 and 2014. <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/the-show-by-filip-syta-google-novel-book-sex-drugs-2016-2?r=DE&amp;IR=T" target="_blank" rel="noopener">He told my colleague Jim Edwards in 2016 that 90% of the book is true, or inspired by real events,</a> referring specifically to the culture of narcotics and meaningless sex.</p><p>This is prevalent in Black Pills' version of "The Show." That plan to destroy The Show's AI programme is concocted between the story's two main protagonists in a steamy bathroom sex scene that dominates the final minutes of the first episode. It makes you a human who uses a search engine.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"You are part of the 1.17 billion people who on a daily basis use The Show to ask 2.3 million questions per second. We tell you where to drive, we tell you what to wear, we tell you how to impress women, how to talk. And we get it right.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"Some say we are doing God's work. All I can say is 64 million Americans went to church on Sunday - and that same day, every single American went to The Show twice. Did you ever wonder what it's like to work for a company more popular than God? I bet you think it's awesome. I bet you think it's amazing, unbelievable. Well, the honest truth is, it's f*****g orgasmic."</p><p>The similarities to Google are obvious. For example, that 2.3 million searches per second figure is <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/google-search-engine-facts-2016-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">strikingly similar to Google data from 2016</a>, which showed it processed exactly the same number of requests a minute. Even the logo for "The Show" has a Google-like inverted G. This is not subtle stuff.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Ultimately, Syta hopes it will help young people think more carefully about the information they hand over to tech giants in the future. "I hope this will make people think about what they use and how much they share, and understand the implications of what they do online. The show features a group of successful Asians and Asian Americans living in Los Angeles, including DJ <a href="https://www.instagram.com/kimlee/?utm_source=ig_embed">Kim Lee</a>, film producer Kelly Mi Li, influencer Kevin Krieder, and fashion influencer<a href="https://www.instagram.com/jaimexie/?hl=en"> Jaime Xie</a>, among others. </p><p>But beyond the bling, the show tackles real issues, from abortion to grief and betrayal. And talking to Chiu, a Taiwanese philanthropist, haute couture collector and co-founder Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery with her husband Dr. Gabriel Chiu, is not always what you expect.</p><p>Chiu was largely portrayed as the <a href="https://www.elle.com.sg/2021/02/05/what-you-see-is-not-what-you-get-with-bling-empire-villain-christine-chiu/">onscreen villain</a>, thanks to her spats with her co-star rival Anna Shay. But Chiu is thoughtful and far more humble than what we see onscreen.</p><p>While the show's draw is obvious - money, glitz, power - for Chiu, it's more than just a flashy vehicle for fame. It's also an opportunity to break stereotypes about the Asian community and amplify of Asian voices.</p><p>In fact, Chiu told Insider that, "spoiler alert," fans should expect to see "a new face or two, [who] are huge advocates of the AAPI community" next season.</p><p>Amid Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Insider spoke to Chiu about anti-Asian violence, season two spoilers of "Bling Empire," and what she's learned during lockdown.</p><p><em>This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.</em></p><h3>Insider: How is shooting season two of "Bling Empire"?</h3><p>Christine Chiu: For season one, we filmed eight episodes in two years, for season two, we're shooting eight episodes in eight weeks. It has been a full-time, overtime endeavor.</p><h3>As a producer on the show, what has the process of shooting been like?</h3><p>Incredibly enlightening. The most gratifying component is having a global platform to raise awareness of AAPI contributions. It's important to carve out more spaces for <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/netflix-bling-empire-star-jaime-xie-talks-fashion-influencer-fortune-2021-1">Asian voices</a>.</p><div type="image" title="christine chiu anna shay" height="1758" width="2500" msid="83063032" hostid="261"></div><p>"Bling Empire" has over-the-top fluff and bling, but it's balanced out with heartwarming, authentic and deep stories that have a great Asian perspective. They're issues that are universally relatable.</p><p>Some of the topics from season one [are] adoption, infertility, identity, marriage, betrayal and mental health. It could have been dark, but they were weaved in beautifully with lighter moments. I am humbled to have been a part of it.</p><h3>Why is cultural diversity so important for you to show on "Bling Empire?"</h3><p>It's grossly underrepresented. AAPI faces, voices and stories are disproportionately underrepresented in both big and small screens in the media, altogether. But I wouldn't fault the <keyword id="4578" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="entertainment">entertainment</keyword> industry.</p><p>As a population, we're less self-promotional. We're quieter and more reserved. My parents taught me growing up to stay silent on your accolades and never talk about your problems.</p><h3>What does <keyword id="1657041" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="AAPI-Heritage-Month">AAPI Heritage Month</keyword> mean to you?</h3><p>I am grateful for it. Altogether, we're better people when we're more aware. We need to appreciate and celebrate the contributions that make up the fabric of America who are coming from different origins and cultures.</p><p>AAPI month gives us a chance to slow down, reflect, and grow. I'm grateful for AAPI Heritage Month, for it highlights the contributions of leaders [in] the AAPI community; looking back on how we got here.</p><div type="image" title="Christine Chiu" height="640" width="854" msid="83063037" hostid="261"></div><p>It was always culturally ingrained in me, at least, that when people treat you poorly because of your skin color or where you come from, your vengeance to that, or how you deal with that, is just to persist - to be resilient, keep quiet, and work harder, to become more successful financially, in life, and career-wise. That's how you show them.</p><p>It really took this time, these past few months, to wake me up to say: "No, that's not enough." Just taking it and letting racism, those micro-aggressions, roll off my shoulders, is not enough. We let it grow by not speaking up.</p><h3><strong>Do you worry about the world your 2-year-old son, Baby G, is growing up in?</strong></h3><p>As a new mom, I want to break this cycle for my son and his generation and the generations after that. I'm proud of the AAPI community for speaking up and saying: "This is not OK."</p><p>We are an essential part of this country and contributed significantly. The violence is not OK. The lack of recognition and the discrimination is also not OK. </p><p>It's an important time and I'm grateful for it.</p><div type="image" title="Christine Chiu" height="2727" width="3637" msid="83063040" hostid="261"></div><h3><strong>Have you become friends with the cast of "House of Ho"? It's another Asian-focused reality TV show that came out at roughly the same time. It felt uncanny.</strong> </h3><p>I'm so glad we connected. "House of Ho" cast member, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/washingtonho/">Washington Ho</a>, reached out to me through social media. Cast members from both shows have become acquainted. The general feeling is support and encouragement because we just need more AAPI faces, voices, and perspectives out there. </p><p>They're similar in that the shows both lead with over-the-top lifestyles, then digs into familial issues, but they are a Vietnamese family and reveal different idiosyncrasies than our show.</p><h3><strong>What are you most proud of about "Bling Empire"?</strong></h3><p>A lot of times when people think of "Asians," they think it's a monolithic community, but no. There are many types of Asians coming from different countries.</p><p>In our cast, I don't think we couldn't have asked for a more diverse all-Asian ensemble of Vietnamese, Taiwanese, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Filipino, Singaporean - and we're all based in LA. That's another reminder of the cultural diversity we have and should be celebrating.</p><h3><strong>What's it like shooting during the pandemic?</strong></h3><p>Netflix is so strict adhering to their Covid-19 guidelines in relation to production and filming. We had a little situation yesterday; it was a grey zone situation [where we thought someone working on set may have had COVID-19]. The delay was seven hours, just to make sure everything was safe. Shooting during the pandemic, we're very lucky...it keeps hundreds of people employed.</p><div type="image" title="Bling Empire Netflix TV show " height="1080" width="1920" msid="83063043" hostid="261"></div><h3><strong>What was the biggest lesson you learned from the pandemic?</strong></h3><p>The biggest lesson is family: family first, family everything. Without family and health, none of it matters. Cars and clothes don't matter. Nothing. </p><p>During the pandemic, you decide who your real friends are. One day, we'll look back and remember how we all got through this.</p><p>My mother passed away last year, not due to COVID-19. But in January, she found out she had breast cancer. I was so stressed during lockdown, my mom didn't tell me that she had breast cancer.</p><p>Last July, I got a call from a Taiwanese hospital's Intensive Care Unit, they told me my mom had a few days to live. I immediately flew to Taiwan and was in a quarantine hotel for 15 days, then a soft quarantine for seven days and my mom held out for me. I got to spend three days with her in the hospital before she passed away.</p><p>[During] the pandemic, so many people have lost family and friends. It's a time of reevaluating what's most important. My mom's passing, it made me think what kind of mom I would want to be in my life, and what lessons I'd want to pass onto my son. How can I honor our heritage and culture?</p><h3><strong>You were previously offered a role on "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills." Would you do it now?</strong></h3><p>I can't speak on behalf of the producers of the "Real Housewives" franchise, but I don't think I would have had the same opportunity to tell a story in the same way as "Bling Empire."</p><p>That was one of my biggest objectives: participating in the art of storytelling. That franchise doesn't have that opportunity for the cast. Aside from entertaining homes in America, I needed to do something that was far greater for generations to come.</p><div type="image" title="Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" height="1333" width="2000" msid="83063046" hostid="261"></div><h3><strong>What can you tell us about your untitled forthcoming children's book series and how will it teach lessons of inclusivity and acceptance?</strong></h3><p>The books will explore cultural diversity and the Asian American identity, in a fun way through the adventures of Baby G and friends, celebrating the uniqueness of different cultures. </p><p>It follows Baby G and who he is, through his heritage and cultural background, owning his heritage and using it to troubleshoot in his day-to-day life.</p><h3><strong>Why is telling stories from an Asian perspective so crucial?</strong></h3><p>Participating in "Bling Empire" gave me the opportunity to make a positive shift for Asian representation and my son Baby G's generation to come. With "Bling Empire," I wanted the greater opportunity to do good. </p><p>My mother would constantly remind me growing up: "To whom much is given, much is expected."</p><p>I've always had this instinct in my heart to do more with the time I have. Sometimes it comes out in my philanthropic contributions, but sometimes it's not as exciting as "Bling Empire" on Netflix. Christine Chiu teases why she turned down 'Real Housewives' and why 'Bling Empire' is a better opportunity to represent her community

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div></p><ul class="summary-list"><li>A new startup called <a href="https://www.yourchoicetx.com">Your Choice Therapeutics</a> aims to bring the first hormone-free male and female birth control drug to market.</li><li>The company debuted at a recent demo day hosted by Silicon Valley tech hub <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-get-into-y-combinator-2018-11">Y Combinator</a>.</li><li>Stacked with researchers from UC Berkeley, the startup has published several basic studies in top-notch <keyword id="41551" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="science">science</keyword> journals.</li><li>Still, the field of <a href="https://www.thisisinsider.com/how-male-birth-control-pill-would-prevent-pregnancy-2019-3">male birth control</a> is a tough nut to crack, and the company faces challenges.</li></ul><p>When University of California at Berkeley scientists Polina Lishko and Nadja Mannowetz first dreamt up the idea for a new kind of birth control, they didn't intend to create an option for men. Instead, they aimed to design a women's contraceptive free from the laundry list of negative side effects tied to today's Pill.</p><p>But a few years and several published papers later, and they realized the drug they were creating could be taken by both women and men. At a demo day hosted by Silicon Valley tech hub <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-get-into-y-combinator-2018-11">Y Combinator</a> last month, they debuted as a startup called Your Choice Therapeutics.</p><p>Although their science is still early, Your Choice's team has created the foundation for a hormone-free method that would prevent pregnancy by robbing a man's sperm of the energy it would need to fertilize a woman's egg. Outside experts call the approach "promising."</p><p>The drug would work as a kind of one-two punch, <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/akashbakshi/">Akash Bakshi</a>, the CEO of Your Choice, told Business Insider.</p><p>First, it would prevent hundreds of millions of sperm from swimming to an egg by essentially disabling their main power source - their tails. As an added back-up in case a few crafty sperm find their way to an egg anyway, Your Choice's drug would also disable the drilling action they need to fertilize the egg.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div></p><p>"The idea is that men and women can take this so a man's sperm will a) not have the energy to get to the egg, and b) if they do get to the egg, they won't be able to drill," Bakshi said.</p><p>Because it doesn't contain hormones, the drug would also be free from the side effects linked to current hormone-based women's contraceptives. Those side effects include migraine headaches, weight gain, mood swings, and more. And while no male birth control has yet been brought to market, some of the drugs being studied could come with side effects like erectile dysfunction (ED) and reduced sex drive.</p><p>Your Choice hopes to avoid those side effects by steering clear of hormones and crippling sperm activity instead.</p><p>"Scientifically their approach is really well-positioned. It's a good target," <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/logan-nickels-73992756/">Logan Nickels</a>, the director of operations for a nonprofit research organization called the <a href="https://www.malecontraceptive.org">Male Contraceptive Initiative</a>, told Business Insider.</p><h2>'Male options stand to be a game-changer' for the contraceptive field</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div>Despite a host of recent innovations from companies like Your Choice and others, the contraception landscape has remained relatively unchanged for nearly half a century. Funding is a major obstacle. Politics plays a role too.</p><p>"The contraceptive space has limited funding as it is, and it's been very focused on women for years," <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/heather-vahdat-3419349/">Heather Vahdat</a>, the executive director of the Male Contraceptive Initiative, told Business Insider.</p><p>"I think the momentum's just picked up on male methods in general," she added.</p><p>Mannowetz and her team agree.</p><p>"The contraceptive burden has been on women for forever," <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/nadja-mannowetz-b7633655/">Mannowetz</a> said. "We're still using the same products our grandmothers used."</p><p>But in recent years, a handful of new initiatives have emerged with aims to broaden the landscape and give new options to both <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/male-birth-control-pill-lowers-testosterone-3-month-trial-2018-3">men</a> and women.</p><p>"These male options stand to be a game-changer," Vahdat said. "It feels like we've finally turned a corner."</p><p>Two recent drugs under investigation include a hormone-based male birth control gel that scientists <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/male-birth-control-gel-trial-begins-in-us-2018-12">began testing</a> in the US last December. The drug is rubbed daily on the shoulders and would work by reducing sperm count. A <a href="https://www.thisisinsider.com/how-male-birth-control-pill-would-prevent-pregnancy-2019-3">pill</a> that works in a similar manner is also being studied. However, both hormonal drugs have been tied with side effects including ED and reduced sex drive. For these reasons and others, Vahdat and Nickels believe a male birth control option is at least 10 years away.</p><p>Other researchers are exploring non-hormonal formulations to try and avoid those side effects. Most of them work by disrupting the interaction between the sperm and the egg.</p><p>For its part, Your Choice's non-hormonal approach uses small molecules inspired by a drug called lupeol and has published several peer-reviewed studies in journals like <a href="http://science.sciencemag.org/content/352/6285/555">Science</a> and the <a href="https://www.pnas.org/content/114/22/5743">Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences</a> outlining their basic approach. The company has raised an undisclosed amount that includes seed funding from Y Combinator. In the next few years, it hopes to progress from pre-clinical studies to studies in preparation for clinical trials.</p><p>The goal is to have a product on the market within the next two decades.</p><p>"That's one good thing about being an underdog - your leaps are going to be fundamentally game-changing," Vahdat said.</p>

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p><span>A man</span>&#xa0;lifted supermodel Gigi Hadid from the ground during&#xa0;Milan Fashion Week on Thursday, forcing the model to defend herself and elbow him in the face.</p><p><span>Vitalii Sediuk, a Ukranian-born man with a <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/gigi-hadid-fends-attacker-milan-931814">long history of red-carpet stunts on celebrities</a>, has come forward as the man in the video, <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/vitalii-sediuk-confirms-gigi-hadid-931878">according to The Hollywood Reporter</a>.</span></p><p>The moment happened as the 21-year-old model&#xa0;was leaving the Max Mara runway show, and was <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEPRvsrNKBM">captured on video</a>. Though she was accompanied by her security team as well as her sister Bella, Hadid&#xa0;was grabbed from behind and lifted by Sediuk&#xa0;in the crowd.</p><p><div></div></p><p>She struggled to get away, even landing what looked like a very satisfying elbow blow to his face.&#xa0;<span>Sediuk</span> dropped her and ran away.</p><p><div></div></p><p>Though Hadid&#xa0;tried to pursue him - shouting&#xa0;<span>"Who the f--- are you, you piece of sh--?!" as she did so -</span>&#xa0;her security team held her at bay.</p><p><div></div></p><p>Fans were quick to point out how badass the Los Angeles-born&#xa0;model was for defending herself.</p><p><div></div></p><p><div></div></p><p><div></div></p><p>The story was first picked up by <a href="https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/1831539/gigi-hadid-aggresively-lashes-out-and-elbows-fan-in-the-face-after-he-tries-to-pick-her-up/">UK tabloid The Sun</a>, but with a grossly sexist headline: "NOT MODEL BEHAVIOR: Gigi Hadid aggressively lashes out and ELBOWS&#xa0;fan in the FACE after he tries to pick her up."</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>The publication has since changed its headline after fan backlash: "DON'T MESS WITH GIGI: Moment model Gigi Hadid elbows prankster in the face when he pounces on her in the street and lifts her off the floor."</p><p>Gigi herself has responded to the original headline, stating that the man was obviously not a fan.</p><p>"I'm a human being and had every right to defend myself," <a href="https://twitter.com/GiGiHadid/status/778929637543915520?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">she tweeted</a>.
