Amid the coronavirus lockdown, bull giraffe <keyword id="9121942" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yadunandan">Yadunandan</keyword> from <keyword id="6358119" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="mysuru">Mysuru</keyword> <keyword id="9066" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zoo">zoo</keyword> joined his consort <keyword id="8524" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gowri">Gowri</keyword> at the <keyword id="6354321" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword> zoo recently as their mating season kicked off, an official said on Wednesday. "As the 4-year-old Gowri has been alone and looking for companion, we have ferried Yaudunandan from Sri Chamarajendra zoological garden in Mysuru to our zoo on April 24 so that they could get to know each other and mate," a Bengaluru Bannerghatta Biological Park official told IANS here. Mysuru is 150km southwest of Bengaluru in the southern state. Gowri, who was also in Mysuru zoo earlier, moved to Bengaluru in April 2018, as there was no other tallest mammal (giraffe) in the city's zoo, located on the southern outskirts. "As Mysuru zoo has 7 giraffes, it has spared Yadunandan to pair with Gowri in our zoo under the animal exchange programme for pairing and conservation education," BBBP zoo executive director <keyword id="9139573" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="vanishree-vipin-singh">Vanishree Vipin Singh</keyword> said in a statement here. Yadunandan was born to Krishnaraja and Babbly in Mysuru zoo 15 months ago and has grown tall enough to mate with Gowri. "When we released Yadunandan in the giraffe enclosure, Gowri walked up to him. Both are also responding to each other and seem to be compatible," said Singh. A popular tourist destination in the tech city, the zoo has been shut for all visitors since the lockdown was enforced on March 25 and extended on April 15 to May 3. "Animal caretakers, staff and veterinary doctors are working to maintain the zoo, its flora and fauna," the official added. Set up in 1970 near the Bannerghatta forest in 1970, the 5-decade-old sprawling zoo was declared a national park in 1974 and a part of it was converted into a biological reserve in 2002 for its rich bio-diversity. The Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Services department is observing 83 people across the state under home isolation for <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> symptoms, a health official said on Wednesday. "We are observing 83 people across the state, including in Bengaluru, Tumkur and <keyword id="6358119" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="mysuru">Mysuru</keyword>, for coronavirus symptoms," the department's communicable diseases wing joint director Prakash Kumar told IANS. However, no positive coronavirus case has been reported from Karnataka yet. "The four Chinese people under watch for the disease left the country on January 30, without being affected by the disease," said Kumar. Interestingly, no individual in Karnataka is currently admitted to the hospital for coronavirus symptoms, Kumar confirmed. State Health and Family Welfare Services Commissioner Pankaj Pandey had on Tuesday convened a meeting of health officials to review the situation and reinforce coronavirus surveillance and control measures in the districts bordering Kerala as well as the entire state. Four Karnataka districts bordering Kerala -- Kodagu, Mangluru, Chamarajanagar and Mysuru -- have been put on high alert in the wake of positive coronavirus cases in Kerala. Starting January 20 till Wednesday, 10,184 passengers have undergone thermal screening for coronavirus at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). Of all the people screened at the airport, only three people had a history of visiting coronavirus epicentre <keyword id="208994" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wuhan">Wuhan</keyword> in China. In Bengaluru, flights arriving from China have been cancelled from February 1. According to a state Health and Family Welfare Services department bulletin, the <keyword id="43588" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="World-Health-Organization">World Health Organization</keyword> (WHO) has declared coronavirus epidemic affecting 23 countries as an 'International <keyword id="6364896" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="public-health">Public Health</keyword> Emergency'. Of the 74 coronavirus symptomatic samples sent for testing, 52 have been declared negative from the state. The 104 Arogya Sahayavani call centre, assigned to receive calls and provide guidance on coronavirus, attracted 1,012 calls thus far. "In case people with recent travel history to China and other affected countries develop any symptoms, they are requested to call 104 or health authorities and provide all necessary details in order to take precautionary measures and are requested to be home isolated," said the department. However, no passenger screened by the department is yet to complete the 28-day observation period. Globally, close to 500 people have already succumbed to coronavirus and more than 20,500 confirmed cases have been reported.

<ul><li>A government school in <keyword id="6358119" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mysuru">Mysuru</keyword> underwent a makeover to look like a ‘train coach’ in order to attract students. </li><li>The village where the school is located does not even have proper bus connectivity and some students have never seen a train. </li><li>This strategy has also been employed by some the government schools in the villages of <keyword id="6355033" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="bangalore">Bangalore</keyword> and Rajasthan.</li></ul> A small <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/karnataka/school-turns-into-train-coach-to-attract-students/article24402639.ece?homepage=true">government school</a> in Haropura village near Mysuru underwent a makeover to look like a ‘train coach’ in order to attract students. The school had just three classrooms and while most students were being rather irregular in attending classes, many others had started dropping out. With a lack of admissions, the school was facing threats of closure. And that was when the teachers decided to take matters into their own hands. While browsing online, they came up with a great idea and shared it with the principal. Headmaster Basavanaik and the teachers, Doreswamy, Tarannum and Netravathi, spent ₹25,000 from their own pockets to get two artists from Mysuru to paint the school. After the sprucing up, the school now looks like a train passing through the village. This tiny village does not even have proper bus connectivity, as the headmaster pointed out, and some of the students had never even seen a train before. Needless to say, the new look made the school the centre of attention. The students now feel like they are studying in a train and therefore, there is full attendance. This successful makeover has drawn attention from the Education Department and local authorities who have developed a new interest in the school. The Gram Panchayat has also offered to build a compound wall and the foundation stone was laid down on Wednesday. The school currently has 55 students studying in classes 1 to 7 and the authorities are hoping to attract more children to the school from the nearby villages too. However this isn’t the first school to turn into a ‘train coach’ to attract students. A government school in <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/videos/city/jaipur/when-a-government-school-in-alwar-was-turned-into-train-to-attract-students/videoshow/63690271.cms">Rajasthan </a>did the same. It even painted DISE codes on every ‘coach’ of the ‘train’. The principal’s office was turned into an engine and the playground into a platform. The app, based on the building management system, provides instant streams of cool air while also recording the occupants' feedback so that it can make necessary changes in the temperature.

Not only this, the Bengaluru plant has also been given a biogas plant, which with its optimized design and detailed engineering, can treat two tonnes of food waste per day. 
 
To build energy efficiency, the IT giant has partnered with several institutions like Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, University of California, Berkeley; Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore; and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay.

Infosys employees can control AC temperatures using a mobile app

Software product think tank iSPIRT has designed a programme where <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Stanford">Stanford</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Duke+University">Duke University</a> researchers would help founders of 200 hyper growth companies to plan ahead and implement the learnings in their organizations. The aim of the exercise is to inspire <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Indian+startups">Indian startups</a> to be global category leaders. 
 
"We want them to become category leaders by making them think about future problems today," said Sharad Sharma, cofounder of iSpirt. "Because for a category leader, conversion rates are much higher than the number 2 or 3 players." 
 
The three-day retreat and conference would start this January where the 200 founders would begin their day with yoga and end it late night with brainstorming on strategies to supercharge their companies. The researchers are funding this programme through grants amounting to $57,000 (Rs 37 lakhs) endowed by their universities. 
 
"Anyone who sees the technology sector sees that the best pool of technical talent comes from India. But they are all working for American companies," said Sharique Hasan, associate professor of organisational behaviour at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Stanford">Stanford University</a>. 
 
 The goal of this programmed is to nail concepts of management into developing countries.

iSPIRT to groom 200 Indian
startups at Infosys Mysuru

Mysore’s little airport often ignored by flying citizens of India has a major role to play in the demonetization move of the <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> government. A chartered plane stacked with new Rs 2000 notes has been ferried from the government press in Mysore to the <keyword id="6354335" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (RBI) headquarters in Delhi. 
 Shrouded under extreme secrecy over the last six months, a private chartered flight quietly took off and landed at the airstrip at <keyword id="2798828" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mandakalli">Mandakalli</keyword> in a long series of flights. These flights were to several large cities - including <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword> - where the Reserve Bank of India branches are located. 
 The special missions were meant to carry stashes of crisp Rs 2,000 notes, printed at the currency note printing press in <keyword id="6358119" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mysuru">Mysuru</keyword>, and deposit them at various RBI branches in other cities. That was in preparation to roll out the demonetisation scheme to catch black money hoarders off-guard. 
 
The two-decade-old press - which is rated one of the best currency printing presses in the world -- had also handled the printing of the first Rs 1,000 notes. It has its own currency paper production unit in its premises where the special security currency paper is manufactured. 
 
The printing of Rs 2,000-denomination notes began about six months ago. Nobody had even got a whiff of what was round the corner. 
 
On Thursday, after six months of flight operations transported the new currency, the banks across the country were supplied the new Rs 2,000-denomination currency notes for issuance to the public - ranging from Rs 20 lakh to Rs two crore per bank/branch, depending on the size. 
 
The Union government had hired the services a private chartered flight operator to ferry the stashes of new currencies from the Mysuru press to various RBI branches. The Centre paid a total of 1 lakh Euros (about Rs 73,42,000) to the private charter through RBI Bengaluru's account at one of <keyword id="6354731" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="State-Bank-Of-India">State Bank of India</keyword> branches. 
 "The charter flights flew regularly to the airports nearest to where the new notes were destined for. The new currency notes were transported in vehicles and under heavy guard to the RBI branches,'' an official told the <keyword id="6474066" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="economic-times">Economic Times</keyword> who has been privy to the entire operation, but preferring to speak on condition of anonymity.

Mysuru King Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar tied the nuptial knot with Trishika Kumari Singh, who is the daughter of Harshvardhan Singh and Maheshri Kumari from the Dungarpur royal family in Rajasthan. 
 Amba Vilas Palace, the iconic <keyword id="110259" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mysore-Palace">Mysore Palace</keyword>, was completely decked up with grandeur for the big fat wedding of Wadiyar family’s scion Yaduveer (24). 
 
The historic Mysore Palace witnessed a royal wedding for the first time 40 years. 
 
More than 80 royal families and a thousand dignitaries from India and abroad witnessed the wedding. 
 
The wedding rituals took place at the kalyana mandapa 9.05 a.m. and 9.35 a.m. 
 
As per rituals, King Yaduveer took an oil bath, followed by a series of ceremonies. 
 
As per customs, the rituals were held in Mysore Palace in the presence of Pramoda Devi, the Queen mother and other family elders. 
 
The big ticket, glorious wedding was a treat to the eyes and was complete royalty. Mysore kings known as Wadiyars ruled present day Southern Karnataka for over 550 years.

 The <keyword id="3246333" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swachh-Sarvekshan">Swachh Sarvekshan</keyword> survey that gauged the impact of <keyword id="63500" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cleanliness-Drive">cleanliness drive</keyword> in 73 cities stated that Mysuru remained the cleanest of all, followed by Chandigarh and Tiruchirapalli. 
 However, <keyword id="6354814" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="prime-minister-Narendra-Modi">Prime Minister Narendra Modi</keyword>’s Varanasi constituency was among the 10 dirtiest cities and Dhanbad ranked the worst. 
 
A first such survey was done in 2014, which was a 476-city survey. Then also, Karnataka’s Mysuru had emerged as the winner. 
 
If we compare the two analysis, cities that have improved include Visakhapatnam, Surat, Rajkot and Gangtok. 
 
Meanwhile, the 10 dirtiest cities include Ghaziabad and Meerut. 
 
In Delhi, South and North Delhi Municipal Corporation improved rankings and were at 47 to 43, respectively. 
 
Tamil Nadu’s Chennai ranked 37 in comparison to its fourth position in 2014.
