According to doctors, this condition is more prevalent in young females. “Patients generally (are) young adults, (it’s) more common in females, and sometimes it can be associated with a rash on the face,” Dr Sheela Murali Chakravarthy, director- internal medicine, Fortis Hospital, Bangalore told Business Insider India. It is a condition where the immune system itself attacks the muscles of the body. “This illness comes under the category of autoimmune in which the body considers self as non self and starts producing antibodies against the muscles causing damage to the muscles,” Dr Chakravarthy added. Muscle pain in thighs, arms and shoulders, difficulty in swallowing, choking, skin rash over eyelids, rashes sensitive to sunlight are some of the common symptoms of Myositis. Doctors further added that patients usually face difficulty in climbing up stairs, or getting up from a sitting position, which gradually progresses to weakness. Fever, fatigue, joint pain, weight loss and fatigue are some of the other symptoms of this illness. There are different types of Myositis — Polymyositis and Dermatomyositis are the most common ones. Polymyositis causes muscle weakness which is closest to the trunk of the body, whereas Dermatomyositis causes muscle weakness in thighs, arms shoulders and skin rash. This disease can be associated with cancer also. “ Any age, right from childhood where it's called juvenile dermatomyositis, to elderly can be affected. It may be associated with cancers also,” said Dr Varsha Bhatt, MD medicine, consultant rheumatologist at Dr DY Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Pune. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Is it a genetic disease?" comment="subhead" text="Is it a genetic disease?">Is it a genetic disease?</cmsannotation> According to Dr Bhatt, the number of studies suggesting Myositis to be a genetic disease are increasing. “Data show that having at least one first-degree relative with myositis is strongly associated with risk of it and that several human leukocyte antigen (HLA) regions are associated with it,” she said. Myositis is a treatable disease and can be cured with proper medical attention. “Early diagnosis is the key and that is possible if you consult a physician or rheumatologist early as soon as symptoms appear,” Dr Bhatt added. A patient suffering from this disease will have to be on medications for a long time to prevent this from relapsing. Steroids, oral or intravenous and immunosuppression therapy with drugs like methotrexate and azathioprine can help treat this illness. “Sometimes you may require high doses of intravenous steroids to halt the progression of illness faster. Tata Motors to hike prices of passenger vehicles from November 7

5G will improve network performance in India: TRAI Chairperson

Emkay Global in a recent sectoral report said the average pan-India cement price increase was about Rs.3-4/bag in October 2022. On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, prices rose by 2-3 per cent in the East and South, and about one per cent in the West; while declining 1-2 per cent in the northern and central regions, the report said. "Cement companies are attempting price hikes of Rs10-30/bag across regions in November 22. Absorption of these price hikes will be uncovered over the next few days," said Emkay Global. Industry volumes likely to have declined by a high single-digit YoY and a low double-digit MoM, in October 22, owing to a high base, as the festive season was spread across October-November last year. According to the report, a delayed exit of monsoons and labour shortage owing to festive holidays impacted demand in October 22. The demand is expected to improve in upcoming weeks, with all major festivals ending and given the onset of a busy construction season. The cost pressure is expected to ease in coming quarters for the industry players and the industry margins are expected to bottom out in Q2, with peaking of costs, higher exit of cement prices and pick-up in construction activities in coming quarters, said Emkay Global. The international petcoke prices are down by about 30 per cent from the peak of $195/tonne. Further the dip in the fuel prices are expected to provide cost savings of at least Rs 150-200/tonne from Q3FY23, Emkay Global said. Cement companies plan price hike of ₹10-30 per bag

The volume of password attacks has risen to an estimated 921 attacks every second globally -- a 74 per cent increase in just one year, a <keyword id="10387" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="microsoft" source="Orion">Microsoft</keyword> report has said. From July 2021 to June 2022, the tech giant's digital defence teams blocked 34.7 billion identity threats and 37 billion email threats. According to the '<keyword id="12280146" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="digital-defence-report" source="Orion">Digital Defence Report</keyword> 2022', attackers are adapting and finding new ways to implement their techniques, thereby increasing the complexity of how and where they host campaign operation infrastructure. Attacks against remote management devices are on the rise, with more than 100 million attacks observed in May 2022 -- a five-fold increase in the past year. "To lower their overhead and boost the appearance of legitimacy, attackers are compromising business networks and devices to host phishing campaigns, malware, or even use their computing power to mine cryptocurrency," the findings showed. Human operated ransomware is most prevalent, as one-third of targets are successfully compromised by criminals using these attacks and 5 per cent of those are ransomed. About 93 per cent of Microsoft's ransomware incident response engagements revealed insufficient controls on privilege access and lateral movement. The most effective defence against ransomware includes multi-factor authentication, frequent security patches, and <keyword id="10549538" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="zero-trust" source="Orion">Zero Trust</keyword> principles across network architecture, the report noted. Microsoft said it synthesises 43 trillion signals daily, using sophisticated data analytics and AI algorithms to understand and protect against digital threats and criminal cyber activity. "Nation state actors are launching increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks designed to evade detection and further their strategic priorities. Cybercriminals have begun using advancements in automation, cloud infrastructure, and remote access technologies to attack a wider set of targets," said the company. To date, Microsoft removed more than 10,000 domains used by cybercriminals and 600 used by nation state actors. "Foreign actors are using highly effective techniques -- often mirroring cyberattacks to enable propaganda influence to erode trust, impact public opinion, and increase polarisation -- domestically and internationally," the report cautioned. On Friday during the corresponding morning period the AQI of the capital city was recorded at 472. Also, areas in the national capital region (NCR) area - Noida and Gurugram at 7 am this morning recorded an AQI of 529 and 478 respectively both in the highly toxic 'severe'. Dhirpur in West Delhi recorded an AQI of 534. On Friday, SAFAR (System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research) said that stubble-burning accounted for 34 per cent to Delhi's particulate matter (PM) 2.5 pollution.Air Quality Index from 0 to 100 is considered as good, while from 100 to 200 it is moderate, from 200 to 300 it is poor, and from 300 to 400 it is said to be very poor and from 400 to 500 or above it is considered as severe. People of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) complained of choking and 'eye burning' due to smog and air pollution leaving people gasping for breath. Earlier on Friday, Delhi Chief Minister <keyword id="260213" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="arvind-kejriwal" source="Orion">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword> along with <keyword id="6354953" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="punjab" source="Orion">Punjab</keyword> Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann held a press conference and urged the central government to come forward and lead measures to check severe smog in the national capital region. <keyword id="6358183" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kejriwal" source="Orion">Kejriwal</keyword> and Mann said that the AAP governments are in Punjab and Delhi. This is not the time to raise fingers or abuse each other. If they say, Kejriwal is responsible and we say they are responsible, this will not solve the problem of smog in NCR, they added. "We do not want to play blame game, we are responsible (for smog in NCR)", they added.CM Kejriwal announced that primary schools in Delhi would be closed from November 5. Besides, the outdoor activity of students of the above fifth standard has been banned.The Delhi government is also mulling implementing the odd-even norms for plying of vehicles in Delhi to contain the pollution caused by vehicular emission, he added. However, the forecast predicts that the condition of air quality in Delhi and nearby regions will continue to deteriorate further and expects improvement from November 5. "Air quality is likely to remain within 'Severe' today and likely to improve tomorrow to 'lower end of Severe' and from 5th onwards air quality is likely to improve further to 'Very poor' due to upper-level wind reversal that prevents inflow of stubble-related pollutants. Higher surface wind speed on 5th Nov is likely to disperse pollutants," said a press release. Delhi pollution: Air quality 'severe' for 3rd straight day; Noida records 529 AQI, Gurugram at 478

The <keyword id="6354977" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="supreme-court" source="Orion">Supreme Court</keyword> on Friday upheld the validity of the 2014 Employees' Pension (Amendment) Scheme. A bench, headed by Chief Justice U.U. Lalit and comprising Justices Aniruddha <keyword id="6371315" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bose" source="Orion">Bose</keyword> and Sudhanshu Dhulia, declared the provisions of August 22, 2014 notification as legal and valid. "The provisions contained in the notification no. G.S.R. 609(E) (notification) dated 22nd August 2014 are legal and valid." The 2014 amendment had capped the maximum pensionable salary (basic pay plus dearness allowance) at Rs 15,000 per month - and prior to the amendment, it was capped at Rs 6,500 a month. The top court also quashed the threshold limit of Rs 15,000 monthly salary for joining the pension fund. "The requirement of the members to contribute at the rate of 1.16 per cent of their salary to the extent such salary exceeds Rs 15,000 per month as an additional contribution under the amended scheme is held to be ultra vires the provisions of the 1952 Act," it said. The bench said the pension scheme ought to apply to the employees of the exempted establishments in the same manner as this scheme applies to the employees of unexempted or regular establishments. "Amendment to the pension scheme brought about by the notification no. G.S.R. 609(E) dated 22nd August 2014 shall apply to the employees of the exempted establishments in the same manner as the employees of the regular establishments," it said. The bench said there was uncertainty as regards validity of the post amendment scheme, which was quashed by the judgments of three high courts. Thus, all the employees who did not exercise the option though being entitled to do so but could not due to the interpretation of the cut-off date by the authorities, ought to be given a further chance to exercise their option, it added. The top court said that employees who, due to lack of clarity, did not join the scheme will be given another four months to avail the option. "Time to exercise option under paragraph 11(4) of the scheme, under these circumstances, shall stand extended by a further period of four months. We are giving this direction in exercise of our jurisdiction under Article 142 of the Constitution of India," said Justice Bose, who authored the judgment on behalf of the bench. The top court said it agrees with its 2016 judgement in R.C. Gupta vs <keyword id="13470793" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="regional-provident-fund" source="Orion">Regional Provident Fund</keyword> Commissioner, where the court held that there can be no cut-off date to avail benefit of the option under the scheme. It also clarified that employees, who retired before the amendment on September 1, 2014 without exercising the option under para 11(3) of the unamended EPS, will not be eligible to the exercise option under the scheme. The top court judgment on appeals filed by <keyword id="6423266" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="employees-provident-fund-organisation" source="Orion">Employees Provident Fund Organisation</keyword> and the Centre challenged the verdicts of the high courts of Kerala, Rajasthan and Delhi, which had quashed the 2014 scheme. Independent India's first voter, the 106-year-old <keyword id="1439259" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shyam-Saran-Negi" source="Orion">Shyam Saran Negi</keyword> passed away Saturday morning at his native place in <keyword id="6358126" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Himachal-Pradesh" source="Orion">Himachal Pradesh</keyword>'s Kalpa, days after he cast his last vote in the 14th Assembly elections of the state. <keyword id="4151" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Negi" source="Orion">Negi</keyword> had cast his first vote in the independent country on October 23, 1951, in the Kalpa polling station, becoming the first voter in the country, and he cast his vote for the 34th time on November 2 this year which became his last, a feat that was acknowledged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "This is commendable and should serve as an inspiration for the younger voters to take part in the elections and strengthen our democracy," PM Modi had tweeted. The 106-year-old had voted on November 2 through a postal ballot. Chief Minister Jairam Thakur consoled Negi's demise and said that the memory of the first voter of the country casting his last vote "will always be emotional". "Saddened to hear the news of the demise of Shyam Saran Negi ji, the first voter of independent India and who belonged to Kinnaur. While performing his duty, he cast his postal vote for the assembly elections for the 34th time on November 2, this memory will always be emotional," Thakur tweeted. "May God bless his virtuous soul at his feet and give strength to the bereaved family members," he added. Deputy Commissioner of Kinnaur Amandeep Garg said that Negi will be cremated with full state honour. Chief Electoral Officer, Maneesh Garg expressed his condolences on the demise of Negi and said that he "motivated generations of voters for exercising their right to franchise for strengthening the democratic set up". In a statement, Garg said, "Such was his commitment that he voted till the last breath of his life as he had cast his vote through postal ballot on 2nd November, at his home in Kalpa." "Negi was a noble human being and I pray to the almighty to give peace to the departed soul and strength to the family members to bear the irreparable loss. He will be cremated with full state honours today," the statement said. Popularly known as Master Shyam, he became the first voter of Indian democracy as the general polls of the country were conducted in January and February 1952. Keeping in mind snow and weather conditions, the polls were conducted in the month of October 1951 in Himachal Pradesh. Negi has participated in every Lok Sabha, Vidhan Sabha and all local bodies elections since 1951. Born in July 1917 in the tribal district of Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh, Negi had been a state icon since 2014. He had cast his vote 16 times in the Lok Sabha elections. According to the Chief Electoral Office of Himachal, Negi, a teacher by profession, the centenarian has voted in every election since 1951 and has never missed an opportunity to vote. On the day the 106-year-old cast his last vote, he asked the people of the country to exercise their right to franchise to strengthen the democratic set up. "The young voters should consider their duty to vote and contribute to strengthening the nation," he said adding that we should feel proud of our voting right as it helps in choosing the right representative to lead the nation. District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner, Abid Hussain Sadiq said that a red carpet was laid to bring him to the postal booth set up in the compound of his house, according to an official release. "Negi was brought on a red carpet till the booth where he exercised his right to franchise and soon thereafter his vote was sealed in an envelope and dropped in the ballot box," Sadiq said. Sadiq along with the returning officer cum SDM Kalpa, Major (retd) Dr Shashank Gupta and the other officers and officials of the district administration honoured the first voter of Independent India. The Chief Electoral Officer also had extended his felicitation to the centenarian voter. So how did it get to that point where you decided to self-finance the movie?Well, I'm always willing to bet on myself.But was there a scenario where, if you didn't come with money, it wasn't getting made?I slipped the script to a couple of people that I thought maybe would get it, and they didn't. And obviously, it's subjective. You have your own feeling of what the material is. Some people thought it was depressing because he's sick at the end. They didn't see the heart and the emotion and, ultimately, how inspiring it is.So I felt Mel had done it with "The Passion," maybe I try it.And if I did find someone to finance, then that's a whole other conversation because typically the person cutting the check also has notes and wants to be involved in the process.So I felt, you know what, I think it's better if I just step up and have complete control.How much did you have to put in? Are we talking half the budget? More?Let's just say I put millions and millions of dollars into the film — and then incurring other costs because we went over schedule in production, and there are clearances for the music.But I also had one friend come in who is not in the film business but believed in the project. But for me to carve out 18 months of my life, and then put on hold all the other stuff I was doing, it just wouldn't work.I had a feeling that Rosalind would do great behind the camera. I wanted to give her that shot. To have a first-time director and get these results, it makes me look a little smarter than I am.However, I cannot take credit for the movie's success because this is God choosing me to make the film. He knows finally I get to utilize all the talents and gifts that have been bestowed upon me for his greater good and to serve my part in his big picture. I mean, I prayed every day about getting this film made. Mel Gibson introduced you to Rosalind, and along with also costarring in the movie you leaned on him for advice through this experience. How much of an effect did "The Passion of the Christ" have on you?I remember seeing it on opening day. I was like, "Wow."I was really impressed with the quality of the film and him taking a chance and financing the film himself. That was something I always appreciated. It's his love letter to his faith in God, and it inspired me to do this. Did you ever think of him directing the movie?No. Rosalind really just put herself in that position. Her script really blew me away. And Mel also felt the same, that she was more than capable. It's a blessing.When you began to learn more about Father Stu's life, did you see a lot of yourself in him?There are similarities: difficult childhood, lots of problems trying to find your purpose in life, what you're meant to do and meant to serve — all of those things. So absolutely I did.He had a lot of real life experiences, and I really appreciated the way he was able to communicate to people and speak through his own experience to the things that people might have been going through.That is a major point in this movie: Father Stu wasn't just talking about it. He had walked it.Exactly.You spent six years trying to get this movie made. Before having to put in your own money, was there ever a point where you were ready to shoot and the money fell out?That never happened, thankfully. That happened three or four times with "The Fighter." We would have a start date, and then something would happen. With this, David O. Russell and I were trying to develop it. We met with some writers, and a few took a crack at it, but we never liked what we got.So I decided I was going to go off on my own and work on it. I had a sense of urgency in wanting to get the movie made, so I wanted to find the right people as quickly as possible. You had to put on 30 pounds for the role. Would you ever go through that again?The weight gain was bad. It isn't something I would want to jump at doing again.But this was so much more important than just doing the actor "Raging Bull" thing. Everything about Stu was predicated on his physicality. To see him lose that but to gain the strength of a thousand men spiritually, it was unbelievable. I wanted the audience to see that and understand it.Watching this, I thought about Sylvester Stallone gaining weight for "Cop Land." Like you, here's a star known for his physique completely changing his body. He has talked about how, mentally, it was hard to gain the weight. Can you relate? Mentally, how was it for you to have your body change like that?I can definitely understand that. You have to force yourself to eat even after you're full. I tried to go the route that was supposed to be healthy.So not constantly eating burgers and milkshakes?No. I went to the doctor and tried to do it healthily. The first two weeks was a 7,000-calorie-a-day diet plan. And then the last four weeks was 11,000 calories a day.Hold on. How is that healthy?It's not but more healthy than the other way.What did you eat?A dozen eggs, dozen pieces of bacon, two bowls of white rice, a cup of olive oil to start the morning. More eggs, a porterhouse steak. That's seven to eight meals a day of this. But it's very top shelf in that genre with its high-end production design and, obviously, the talent involved.We wanted to create the highest quality of cinema.And this high-quality filmmaking mixed with spiritual storytelling, is that something you want to do more of now?Absolutely. I'm hoping lots more will come to me now, not just stories that I can star in but also can help others get their works off the ground. I want to do more of this in the future, and there's a huge audience for it.Are you thinking of going as far as starting a production company that's focused on faith-based stories?We are already in the works: film, television, across the board, but putting the emphasis on quality.The hope is I can intrigue other high-caliber talent to come and do what I did with "Father Stu": bet on themselves, take a chance.
