New Delhi, Apr 24 () Pune-based molecular diagnostics company Mylab Discovery Solutions on Friday said it has joined hands with global contract research organisation Syngene to cater to the country's demand for RT-PCR COVID-19 testing kits amid the pandemic. This is an important step to make India self-reliant in COVID-19 testing, Mylab said in a statement. After partnerships with Serum Institute and AP Globale to scale up its manufacturing operations, this collaboration with Syngene will help Mylab secure a steady supply of indigenously made raw materials, it added. This will help in meeting the demand of RT-PCR-based COVID-19 testing kits in the country and reduce uncertainties, the statement said. Biocon Executive Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw said, "We are pleased with this partnership to make it a truly indigenous kit." In similar vein, Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla said India's response to COVID-19 has affirmed its global leadership. The CEO said he is happy to have a partnership with Syngene International to make Mylab's COVID-19 testing kit more indigenous, reducing dependency on foreign raw materials and to further strengthen India's self-reliance in response to COVID-19, he added. "With this collaboration, we will reduce the dependence of India on foreign testing kits and deliver our own Indian testing kits," Poonawalla said. Mylab expands production capacity of COVID-19 testing kits to enable 2 lakh tests per day

New Delhi, Jul 7 () Pune-based Mylab Discovery Solutions on Tuesday said it has launched a machine to automate the manual processes of molecular diagnostic tests including RT-PCR tests for COVID-19. The machine will be available for pre-ordering starting July 13, it added. The company however did not disclose the cost of the machine. Earlier in March, Mylab had received commercial approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) for its COVID-19 test kit, which it said was the first 'Made in India' kit to receive such an approval from the regulator. The machine to automate molecular diagnostic tests is a compact bench-top machine that will automate lab processes from sample handling to preparing RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) ready tubes. It is a cartridge-based machine and can test multiple samples at the same time, Mylab said in a statement. The machine can be used for a wide range of RNA and DNA-based tests including COVID-19 RT-PCR tests. The machine can take input of various sample types such as plasma, tissue, sputum and swab, it added. "To make India self-reliant in advanced diagnostics, Compact XL is our most ambitious project to date. Compact XL will replace the need of 700 sq ft of clean room lab with a 4x3 benchtop machine and reduce the need of 3-4 expert technicians to just one, saving operational costs for labs," Mylab Discovery Solutions MD Hasmukh Rawal said. But when I clicked on my negative results to read the report, I was confused. The document said my test was collected on January 9 and reported on January 22. It also stated that my testing report was generated on January 29.When asked about the result turnaround time, MyLab Box's customer service manager told Insider in an email that the majority of its tests have a 24 to 48 hour result turnaround time, but on "rare occasions," this may differ due to shipping delays and demand spikes."We are all living in unprecedented times which pose many unexpected challenges to delivery services, health facilities, and our staff alike," the email read. "We pride ourselves on our rapid turnaround time, in fact, it is a key performance metric we hold ourselves accountable to both internally and our valued partners nationwide."And in regards to the test result report, the company says the dates are "mainly intended for internal monitoring and some reporting purposes."At this time all labs are required to report both positive and negative COVID-19 test results to help the department of health track and manage the pandemic," the email continued."<h2>My final verdict: Amazon's DxTerity is the winner</h2><div type="image" title="DxTerity's mail-in COVID-19 testing kit." height="1441" width="1922" msid="80615624" hostid="261"></div>After taking both tests, I can confidently say that I prefer Amazon's DxTerity test over Walmart's MyLab Box due to DxTerity's straightforward instructions and result turnaround time. At-home coronavirus tests offer convenience that can't be found by going to a clinic in-person. For starters, the testing kit is mailed to your doorstep, which means you don't have to walk or<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/drive-thru-coronavirus-testing-lines-photos-2020-7"> drive to a nearby testing</a> facility. Pune, Jul 7 () Vaccine maker Serum Institute of India (SII) is hoping to develop a COVID-19 vaccine by the year-end as it is focusing on a "good and safe" product and is not in a "rush", the company's CEO Adar Poonawalla said on Tuesday. He was speaking during the launch of 'Compact XL, a compact diagnostics machine by MyLab Discovery Solutions, that will automate lab processes from sample handling to preparing RT-PCR tubes. Replying to a question about the development of the COVID-19 vaccine, Poonawalla said that by the end of 2020, the SII is hoping to have a vaccine. "End of the year, we are hoping to have a vaccine. So we will discuss once of the phase three trials for the product come about. Recently, there was news about another vaccine candidate which was being rushed. We do not want to rush anything. We want to emphasis on safety and efficacy... and once we are confident of good and safe vaccine, we will announce but that is still six months away from now," said Adar. He further said that till the vaccine comes, testing is the key and that is why SII has invested in MyLabs. "If you test, isolate and segregate, we can manage the situation till the good cure or vaccine comes around," said Adar. SII has invested over Rs 100 crore in MyLabs, a Pune-based molecular diagnostics firm. Poonawalla lamented that India is not testing enough and added that Indian test manufacturers including MyLabs are picking up the production capacity. "There is a fear that what will happen if the number of positive patients increases. I would like to say that there is no harm if the number increases as it will help us detect people," he added. MyLab can produce 2 million kits per week and there is no that much demand in India so allow us to export and we have enough buffer stock for India readily available if there is more outbreak," he said adding they are waiting for the government's blessings. Mumbai, Mar 24 () In what may go down as an important solution in India's fight against coronavirus, Pune-based Mylabs Discovery Solutions has created an indigenous solution to test patients for COVID-19 that can halve the time taken for results. The molecular diagnostic company, which received statutory approvals late on Monday from authorities, can manufacture over 15,000 testing kits per day from its facility at Lonavala in Pune district and the same will be ramped up to 25,000 kits per day, its co-founder Shrikant Patole told . Citing the experience in South Korea, the World Health Organisation has been stressing on the importance of tests to fight the pandemic, which has so far claimed nine lives in India. Though around 500 people have been tested positive for the virus in India so far, experts are bracing for a sharp increase fearing it may have spread across and also point out to a low level of testing in the country. Patole explained that the company is able to shorten the test time to 2.5 hours with the 'Mylab PathoDetect COVID-19 Qualitative PCR kit' as against the prevalent 6-8 hours because its team has created a solution that does both the screening and confirmation jobs simultaneously. Its team of 25 scientists started working on the solution six weeks ago, fearing that the crisis may eventually hit India, he said, adding that the company had started as a trading firm in 2012 and diversified into research in 2016. The test for COVID-19 will also pick up positive cases among asymptomatic patients, Patole said, adding that the approvals from the National Institute of Virology, Indian Council of Medical Research and Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) were received after a test sampling on patients at Mumbai's Kasturba Hospital which is the nodal location for treating Coronavirus cases. Patole explained that till now, India has been using kits prepared by the state-run National Institute of Virology (NIV), also based in Pune, but it was the fears over the increase in numbers which made private sector interventions in manufacturing necessary. The testing kits done by NIV are costing up to Rs 4,500 per sample if we include both screening and confirmation, Patole said, claiming that Mylabs is confident of selling the kits at a fourth of that cost. He said allowing private labs to conduct tests is essential given the potential threats. Patole also said that its kit can work within the infrastructure for testing available with Indian diagnostic labs, and does not require any new machinery, which the most imported. The company is in the process of creating similar test kits for HIV, hepatitis-B and also tuberculosis. A team of four founders and investors have invested over Rs 25 crore in the company till now and there are no external investors, Patole said. The company is looking to rope in investors, he added. With 2,57,299 fresh cases of Covid-19, India on Saturday witnessed the lowest rise in infection since April 21, even as 4,194 people died due to the pandemic in last 24 hours, according to the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry. India's overall tally of Covid-19 cases now stands at 2,62,89,290 with 29,23,400 active cases and 2,95,525 deaths so far. According to the Health Ministry, a total of 3,57,630 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours, with 2,30,70,365 being cured from Covid till date. New Delhi, Apr 17 () To help India fight against COVID-19 pandemic, Larsen &amp; Toubro will provide medical aid worth Rs 40 crore comprising of PPEs, N95 masks, diagnostic kits and other medical equipments, a top company official said on Friday. This will be in addition to the Rs 500 crore provision per month by the engineering giant for providing support to 160,000 contract labour spread across the country and donation of Rs 150 crore to the PM-CARES Fund announced on March 30. The company will provide 45,000 PPEs, 151,000 N95 masks and 155 diagnostic kits. The value of the medical aid to combat deadly coronavirus is estimated at about Rs 40 crore. "As a responsible corporate citizen, we are providing the PPEs, diagnostic kits, N95 masks and critical hospital equipment including ventilators that will be helpful in effectively combating the pandemic", SN Subrahmanyan, CEO &amp; MD, Larsen &amp; Toubro told . The conglomerate plans to donate Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to various healthcare organisations under State governments of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam and Telangana. It plans to donate 151,000 N-95 masks to health agencies in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, he said. The company has already handed over 100 semi fowler beds with matresses, 2 ventilators, 7 bipap ventilators and 20 multiparameter monitors to Tamil Nadu Health Department-run The King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research, Chennai. The institute will further receive 8 ventilators from L&amp;T shortly, he said adding, the company also plans to donate 12 ventilators for state health authorities in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
