We’ve filed a lot of patents from here. We also manufacture <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=4G+equipment">4G equipment</a>.<br />

One of the big 4 tech events in the world, WWDC is a monumental stage for developers to showcase what we can expect on our hardware moving forward. <br /><br />This year, the event is particularly exciting, with expectations of updates across several Apple products. There are the usual suspects, iPhone, Macbook and iPad. But, this time we also have the Vision Pro, expecting its first serious update. This was a surprising move by Apple since Steve Jobs had mentioned multiple times that they would never enter the tablet space. <br /><br />Long before the dawn of artificial intelligence in the consumer market, Apple's intelligent virtual assistant, Siri, was launched in 2011. Coincidentally, 13 years later this year, we are expecting major changes in Siri with the possible integration with Open AI’s ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini. <br /><br />The year 2014 saw the launch of Apple Watch and Apple Pay — a smartwatch focused on health and fitness tracking and a mobile payment system for secure contactless transactions. The Apple Watch can be considered the first major move in creating the walled garden of the Apple ecosystem. While we are still waiting for Apple Pay in India, this tool is used extensively abroad, working efficiently with both iPhone and Apple Watch.<br /><br />In 2015, Apple introduced native apps for the Apple Watch with WatchOS 2, transforming it into a miniature iPhone on the wrist. With the addition of cellular connectivity in 2017, Apple's wearable was liberated from the confines of iPhones. The introduction of fall detection and the ECG app in 2018 underscored Apple's commitment to health and safety features, with them <a href="https://www.youtube.com/shorts/qx_Unk556D0">credited with saving lives</a>.<br /><br />In 2020, Apple introduced the M1 chip, its own processor marking a significant shift in performance and power efficiency for Macs. This marked the beginning of the end for Apple's association with Intel. It’s 2024 now, and we have M3 chips in action, with the entire Macbook line-up being powered by M series chips. <br /><br />On the iOS front, the release of iOS 7 in 2013 marked a significant visual overhaul, while the introduction of App Widgets in 2020 fulfilled a long-standing user request, empowering users to personalize their iPhone experience like never before. In 2015, Apple Music made an important pivot to digital streaming. <br /><br />AirPods, introduced in WWDC 2016, became a runaway success. This wireless earbuds innovation started an entirely new market, and today we stand on Airpods 3 and even AirPods Max. <br /><br />Last, but not least, Apple Vision Pro was announced last year at WWDC 2023. This mixed-reality headset is now in the market and the reviews have been polarising, to say the least. However, my experience with it at <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/mobile-world-congress-a-quick-recap-of-the-future-of-consumer-tech-as-seen-in-mwc-barcelona/articleshow/108651018.cms">MWC this year </a>was fairly good, it felt comfortable and inclusive. Point to note, it's not available in India yet.<br /><br />Overall, WWDC has been the epicentre of consumer tech innovation, and an event every tech enthusiast looks forward to eagerly. Twitter security chief Michael Coates is leaving to launch a startup

While <a href="http://www.gartner.com/newsroom/id/3609817" target="_blank">Android's biggest phone maker</a> typically uses MWC to launch its flagship Galaxy S phone, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-galaxy-s8-rumors-march-release-date-report-2017-2" target="_blank">all signs point</a> to the company holding off for a month, and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-invitation-for-mwc-2017-2017-1" target="_blank">using the event</a> to showcase a <a href="https://twitter.com/evleaks/status/834214088553144320" target="_blank">new tablet</a> instead.</p><p>While that could be viewed <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-wont-launch-galaxy-s8-mobile-world-congress-barcelona-in-february-2017-1" target="_blank">as a setback</a>, and while the Galaxy S8 <em>is</em> a crucial release for Samsung, it's worth remembering that the Korean firm's phone business is still about volume as much as centralizing around one high-end model.</p><p>This chart from <a href="http://statista.com" target="_blank">Statista</a> gets at the idea: Though Apple is in a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-has-samsung-on-the-ropes-like-never-before-drexel-hamilton-2017-2" target="_blank">dead heat</a> with Samsung in terms of global market share, the former only released three phones in 2016, while the latter launched a whopping 31. Samsung is still overloading the smartphone market

Now, Epic is pledging long-term support for HoloLens, citing this policy of openness as a reason why. </strong></li><li><strong>Together, the two stand to form an alliance that could promote more competition between app stores, and a rethinking of the economics of the app economy. </strong></li><li><strong>The move stands to benefit Microsoft, as well: It hasn't had much success with its own PC app stores, so taking a stand here could attract more developers to the Windows PC.</strong></li></ul><p>On Sunday, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-hololens-2-price-details-hands-on-2019-2">Microsoft announced the HoloLens 2</a> - the second iteration of its pioneering holographic headset, a $3,500 device that projects digital imagery over the real world, a form of augmented reality. </p><p>As one might expect, the device was the centerpiece of Microsoft's keynote presentation at Mobile World Congress.</p><p>But in a blink-and-you-miss-it moment that may have gone overlooked, chief HoloLens inventor Alex Kipman made another, related announcement that has much larger implications for the industry: Microsoft committed to allowing anybody to operate their own app store for the HoloLens or any Windows-powered headsets like it.</p><p>It's a commitment that comes among a broad discussion about the economics of smartphone app stores. Apple, in particular, has come under scrutiny for requiring developers to fork over 30% of most App Store transactions, while also disallowing competitors to open their own alternative iOS app storefronts.</p><p>Microsoft's commitment to openness seems to have already won over one of its fiercest critics, as Tim Sweeney, the CEO of "Fortnite"-creator Epic Games, actually made an appearance at the keynote event to announce the company's commitment to HoloLens as a platform.</p><p><em><strong>Read more: </strong></em><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-hololens-2-price-details-hands-on-2019-2" data-analytics-position="1">Microsoft reveals the HoloLens 2, its new $3,500 holographic headset that seems to improve on the original in every way</a></p><p>That's especially notable, as way back in 2016, Sweeney decried the Windows 10 app store as "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/epic-ceo-tim-sweeney-slams-windows-10-2016-3">the most aggressive move Microsoft has ever made</a>," and a play at making the Windows PC an iPhone-style "walled garden." </p><p>At the event on Sunday, Sweeney announced that HoloLens 2 will get support for Epic's popular Unreal Engine 4 game design software, and more broadly, that the company will consider HoloLens a part of its strategy going forward - though he said he wasn't prepared to announce more specifics at this time. </p><p>Sweeney specifically called out Microsoft's commitment to this kind of openness as a reason behind the alliance and tied it to his broader principles. </p><p>"We will resist efforts to build walled gardens around our lives," Sweeney said on stage at the Microsoft event. </p><p><em><strong>Read more: </strong></em><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/epic-games-vs-steam-discord-microsoft-xbox-game-pass-2018-12" data-analytics-position="11">The creator of 'Fortnite' is leading a battle that could throw the entire video game industry into disarray, and it's likely to be terrible for Google and Apple</a></p><p>To that point, Epic has spent much of the last year campaigning against the major platforms. For its part, at least, Steam has changed some of its revenue split model in recent months, though Apple and Google are <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-play-revenue-split-fortnite-epic-games-2019-2?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_content=topbar&amp;utm_term=desktop&amp;referrer=twitter">so far sticking to their guns</a>. In a recent call with shareholders and analysts, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that he believes the Google Play store offers value for developers. </p><p>Microsoft's HoloLens is a far more nascent platform than Android or Apple's iOS. When the second version launches later this year, it'll cost $3,500, and only be available to businesses.</p><p>At the same time, much of the industry - including Apple, Facebook, and Microsoft itself - believe that augmented reality tech, like the HoloLens, is the next big thing after the smartphone. By declaring this commitment early, Microsoft seems to be hoping that the next generation of devices allows for healthy competition between app stores.</p><p>And by getting Epic on board, Microsoft has a powerful ally in the fight. The two companies had previously teamed up to make it possible for "Fortnite" players to play together across Xbox, the PC, and smartphones - an alliance that <a href="https://www.polygon.com/2018/9/26/17905770/fortnite-cross-play-ps4-nintendo-switch-xbox">got Sony to allow that kind of cross-platform play</a> for the PlayStation 4.</p><p>Together, the two might have enough juice to keep putting the pressure on Apple and Google around how they do business in their app stores, perhaps convincing them to make some kind of change. </p><p>Beyond the stores, too, Microsoft at its event actually showed how a HoloLens 2 wearer could interact with holograms placed by someone with an Apple iPad using the camera to project augmented reality imagery, indicating the company's further commitment to keeping the platform open.</p><p>However, I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention that Microsoft doesn't have a lot to lose here, either. Despite Sweeney's earlier fears, the company hasn't had a lot of luck with any of its Windows app stores, and no longer maintains any kind of smartphone operating system at all. “Samsung doesn’t make good quality phones”. Haven't we have heard this line upteen number of times before? But now we can safely say that not anymore and it’s matter of being sixth-time lucky for the Korean brand. Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have entered Indian shores after its announcement at MWC earlier this month.<br />

With prices starting from Rs 49,900 Samsung is almost at par with the likes of HTC and it still manages to better the numbers when compared with Apple. Galaxy S6 is the flagship device for this year (until MWC 2016 atleast) and Galaxy S6 Edge is the blingy, new-form device that everyone wants as part of so-called innovation these days. Everyone has been raving about the sixth generation Galaxies which has finally manage to find the ground between its value and offering.<br />

So, what do we think about the new Galaxies? Here is what we think about them.<br />
<br />
<strong>More of a phone than phablet</strong><br />
Big display phones are doing well, so much so that Apple had to bring one of its iPhone in that space just to keep things interesting. But you can’t talk about flagship and big display in same breath, even now and we’re thankful to that from all corners. The new Galaxy flagships fall in the same category, wherein the size of phones has been kept in tune with what people (in this space) actually want. And it makes total sense, unless they want to disturb the equilibrium of Note series. The phones with 5-inch sizing remain easy to use and handle.<br />
<br />
<strong>Metal and glass make for premium Galaxy</strong><br />
Let me put it straight, Galaxy S6 has metals, lots of it but still it doesn’t come in the HTC-One like metal category, for now. The finishing has been done with prime concentration, sleek, lighter than before (don’t care if numbers say otherwise). But one look at the back panel and there’s a Sony-like glass covered finishing which as always, become susceptible to counter scratches and making it slippery in nature. Was that the best go-to option for Samsung? May be not and a full-metal Galaxy S6 would have got the world going bonkers.<br />
<br />
<strong>2K-ed display</strong><br />
Samsung has opted to go for the kill with its display on Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge which hardly comes as a surprise, considering their strong foothold in this aspect. We’re talking about 2K aka Quad-HD and 4K display on phones and while these may not really make much of a difference to the naked eye, it’s there alright. Bright contours, vibrancy at its optimum and crisp content are some of the features that have epitomized Samsung display’s all these years, and they seem happy to prolong its tradition.<br />
<br />
<strong>Cameras are no issue but fingerprint at the back?</strong><br />
Samsung manages to pack in decent set of snappers and Galaxy S6, S6 Edge offers nothing different. In fact they have managed to improve on them and somehow (as they believe) making it even better than iPhone 6, 6 Plus they say. We’ll give you more on the quality and performance only after we truly make use of the phone for a while. Also, we noted that fingerprint scanner has now been placed alongside (or maybe within) the heart-rate sensor. Someone please tell me why?<br />
<br />
<strong>Price just-about right</strong><br />
Call it fancy but people talking about Rs 49,900 being a decent price smacks the reality of value proportions these days in the mobile market. Price of Galaxy S6 is shade under Rs 50K (half a lakh so to say) but if you compare that with iPhone 6 (and 6 Plus), the figures will feel moderate and not truly absurd, so to say. Performance has never been the concern for any of flagship Galaxy phones but this time it feels different.<br />

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge: Worth the hype?

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Attendees at the NOAH technology conference in Berlin have accused an on-demand dating app of inviting escorts to attend a sponsored party at the event this week.<p>Multiple attendees at a NOAH party sponsored by the German publishing group Axel Springer* on Wednesday night&#xa0;suspected a number of the women there were escorts, <a href="http://www.deutsche-startups.de/2016/06/09/escort-ladies-noah/">according to the German&#xa0;technology news site Deutsche Startups</a>.</p><p>Two attendees who work in venture capital, and several founders and CEOs, told Business Insider that conference guests at the party were perturbed by the appearance of a disproportionate number of young women in high heels and short skirts, some carrying credit-card readers, and none of whom were recognized as investors or startup founders who had&#xa0;been at the conference earlier in the day.</p><p>The women caused a debate on Twitter, with attendees discussing the event using the #escortgate hashtag.</p><p>The CEO of the company accused of inviting the women denies that the women were sex workers, however. The party was attended by hundreds of people, and only a small portion of them were suspected of being escorts.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_left"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Marco Rodzynek, CEO of Noah Advisors, the company that organised the conference, declined to comment on the Deutsche Startups report when Business Insider asked him about it on Thursday. We have since contacted Noah Advisors via email and are waiting to hear back.<p>Darja Gutnick, founder and CEO of 12grapes, a Berlin startup that has developed a piece of software to help companies assess the performance of their staff, said she left the party early at 11pm because she wasn't comfortable with the situation. In an email to Business Insider, she wrote:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">I was surprised to see numerous girls in short skirts and high heels. I live in Berlin since 3 years and being a founder myself it was obvious to me that those were not founder, nor investors but were girls that were invited for entertainment purposes. I decided to hang out a bit and observe the situation, although feeling more and more uncomfortable, since clearly the only 2 categories of females that were present were girls in short skirt and high heels or wifes of investors walking hand in hand into the tempodrom. I spend about 30 min in front of the entry seeing more and more girls buzzing around. After 30 min or so I decided that I am not exactly comfortable in this situation, and knowing that I've got a lot on my plate today, I headed home at 11 pm. Today I spoke to multiple women that attended the party that all left early (after 1 hour or less) since they either felt uncomfortable or their partners were directly approached by girls, which was extremely awkward.</p><p>Other attendees talked about the party on Twitter using the hashtag #escortgate. Their tweets were mostly in German but there are one or two in English:</p><p><div></div></p><p><div></div></p><p>It's worth noting that prostitution is legal in Germany. And that this isn't the first time that escorts have been linked to technology conferences. The annual held Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona has a reputation for attracting large numbers of escorts each year, as Business Insider <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/escort-agency-apricots-buys-mobile-world-congress-billboard-ad-next-to-samsung-2015-3" target="_blank">highlighted</a> in this post from 2015.</p><p>Deutsche Startups tweeted a photo of what appears to be a flier from the dating app Ohlala inviting women to come and mingle with CEOs, investors, and executives at the Noah party.</p><p><div></div></p><p>Ohlala CEO Pia Poppenreiter denied that the women who attended the party were prostitutes. She said that they were "just friends and people I know," adding that she wanted to use the conference as a guerrilla PR campaign.</p><p>Poppenreiter also claims the women weren't paid to attend but we heard from an attendee that some of the women carried credit card readers on them so they could accept payments. Poppenreiter has yet to respond to Business Insider on this particular point.</p><p>Founded in 2015, Ohlala describes itself <a href="https://www.ohlala.com/de/en/index.html" target="_blank">on its website</a> as "an instant paid dating app connecting people to date on demand."</p><p>However, the app - also available in Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Stuttgart, and Cologne - has been described by several media outlets, including Business Insider, as an "<a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/uber-for-escorts-app-launches-in-germany-2015-8?r=US&amp;IR=T" target="_blank">Uber for escorts</a>."</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p><strong>Here's the full statement from Ohlala about the party:</strong></p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">Ohlala wanted to use the NOAH Party for a guerrilla PR campaign. For that I have many of my friends turned to go to the NOAH Party. Unfortunately, it seems to has gotten out of hand a bit. That I'm personally very sorry. I would not have thought that this leads to such waves. I hope that the event has taken no harm and I apologize one more time to all organizers and participants that I have brought in an awkward position.</p><p><strong>An Axel Springer spokesperson emailed Business Insider the following statement: </strong></p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">We didn't know anything about that and are irritated as well. We are strictly against such activities and we will commit ourselves that this remains a one-time incident.</p><p>Gutnick questioned whether Axel Springer had knowledge of the women at the party in a post she published Facebook. But, as the market consolidates, the EHR firms that remain will need to differentiate themselves from competitors. Memorial Sloane Kettering (MSK) and existing investors, Boston Millennia Partners and Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, also took part in the funding round. Cota plans to use the funds raised to scale its solutions, and advance its proprietary Cota Nodal AddressTM (CNA) precision medicine system. Precision medicine platforms, like CNA, are gaining popularity among payers, providers, and data science companies because they allow them to analyze and research the costs, treatments, and quality of care of specific populations at a more granular level. Health organizations can use the platforms to optimize the efficiency of treating patients by taking relevant data and analytics information such as how genetic differences in populations can impact the effectiveness of certain antidepressant medications, resulting in some patients requiring smaller doses. This can help lower the overall cost of the patient population and improve patient outcomes. CNA is already being used by healthcare organizations like MSK to categorize patient factors, diseases, and therapies to enable medical aid at scale.
