It had handled a volume of 98.61 MMT in FY22. APSEZ witnessed a 62% YoY growth in rail cargo through the Indian Railways' General Purpose Wagon Investment Scheme (GPWIS). Mundra Port managed over 15,000 container trains in FY23. In FY23, APSEZ generated an impressive revenue of approximately ₹14,000 crore from rail cargo operations in collaboration with Indian Railways. Mundra Port witnessed a 4.3% year-on-year growth in double-stack container trains in FY23. The utilization of the double stack loading technique for containers on trains ensures energy efficiency and reliability in transportation, leading to reduced per unit cost and enhanced customer satisfaction, the company said. The company said that Mundra Port’s utilization of rail transport significantly reduces the carbon footprint associated with freight transportation. Moreover, the efficient handling of container trains minimizes the reliance on additional truck transport, leading to further reductions in carbon emissions. APSEZ, a subsidiary of Adani Group, has transformed from a port company into an Integrated Transport Utility, offering end-to-end solutions from its port gate to the customer gate. It holds the distinction of being India's largest port developer and operator, with six strategically positioned <keyword id="6413000" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ports" source="Orion">ports</keyword> and terminals on the west coast (Mundra, Dahej, Tuna, and Hazira in Gujarat, Mormugao in Goa, and Dighi in Maharashtra). It also has five ports and terminals on the east coast of India (Dhamra in Odisha, Gangavaram, and Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, and Ennore, Karaikal, and Kattupalli in <keyword id="20154" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tamil-nadu" source="Orion">Tamil Nadu</keyword>). These ports and terminals account for 24% of the country's total port volumes, enabling the handling of significant amounts of cargo from coastal regions and the hinterland.

Adani Ports records highest-ever rail cargo of over 120 mmt in FY23

AdPorts and Special Economic Zone on Thursday reported that its Profit After Tax or net profits during the just-concluded financial year 2023-24 grew by a whopping 50 per cent to Rs 8,104 crore. In 2022-23, they were at Rs 5,391 crore. During the fourth quarter January-March, the net profits grew 77 per cent to Rs 2,015 crore. Coming to the revenue from operations for the entire financial year and the fourth quarter, they grew 28 per cent and 19 per cent to Rs 26,711 crore and Rs 6,897 crore, respectively. 2023-24 has been a year of many new milestones for <keyword id="20038598" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="APSEZ" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="APSEZ" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="APSEZ">APSEZ</keyword> on both operational and financial metrics. <keyword id="20051210" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani-Ports" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Adani Ports" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Adani Ports">Adani Ports</keyword> delivered 3x the India cargo growth rate and a record volume of 420 million tonne. With incremental cargo volumes of 100 million tonne achieved in less than two years, Adani Ports is well poised to achieve 500 million tonne of cargo volumes in 2025, aided by the recently acquired Gopalpur Port, and the scheduled commissioning of Vizhinjam Port in the current year and WCT (West Container Terminal) next year, said Gupta. "We continue to invest heavily in the business to drive growth, particularly in the logistics segment. Our newly launched trucking segment enables APSEZ to provide the last-mile connectivity solution to its customers. Our efforts towards sustainable business growth are well recognized in the top decile ESG rating from four global rating agencies," added Gupta. In 2023-24, APSEZ said it handled 27 per cent of the country's total cargo and 44 per cent of container cargo. Ten of its ports from the India portfolio recorded their lifetime high cargo volumes for the year. For 2023-24, the APSEZ Board has recommended a dividend of Rs 6 per share. This implies a payout of around Rs 1,300 crore for the company. A dividend is a reward that companies often provide to their shareholders, though it is not mandatory, from a portion of their earnings. Sensex, Nifty50 decline as IT, metal and auto stocks plummet

Passenger car major <keyword id="44883" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="maruti-suzuki" source="Orion">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> India Ltd had transported over 3.2 lakh vehicles in 2022 through Indian Railway and is setting up dedicated railway sidings at its facilities in Haryana (Manesar) and Gujarat, said a top company official. The company last year transported over 3.2 lakh vehicles using rail wagons, the highest in a calendar year since 2013 when the company got the Automobile Freight Train Operator (AFTO) license. "Going forward, we aim to further increase these numbers. For this, we are setting up dedicated railway sidings at our facilities in Haryana (Manesar) and Gujarat," <keyword id="13455711" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="hisashi-takeuchi" source="Orion">Hisashi Takeuchi</keyword>, Managing Director &amp; CEO, said. "Aligned with the Government of India's aim to reach net zero emissions by 2070, we have enhanced our efforts to reduce carbon footprint in our business operations. Our strategy to increase the use of rail mode in outbound logistics has resulted in dispatching record 3.2 lakh vehicles using railways in CY2022," he said. According to him, the use of railway wagons instead of trucks has resulted in offsetting around 1,800 MT of CO2 emissions. Maruti Suzuki to increase transport of cars through rail wagons, to set up dedicated railway sidings

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], November 9 (ANI): AdPorts and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ) has reported robust financial results for the second quarter and the first half ending September 30, 2023, showcasing remarkable growth across key metrics. According to a press release by Adani, APSEZ witnessed a substantial YoY revenue growth of 26 per cent, reaching Rs 12,894 Crores during H1 FY24. The company's Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) recorded an impressive YoY growth of 49 per cent, amounting to Rs 7,429 Crores. The logistics business recorded significant growth, with rail volumes up 25 per cent YoY and GPWIS volumes up 42 per cent YoY during H1 FY24. APSEZ achieved an emission intensity reduction of 48 per cent and a water intensity reduction of 58 per cent from the base year (FY2016) as of H1 FY24. The company completed a mangrove plantation of 4,200 Ha against its 2025 target of 5,000 Ha. Maruti begins the export of its 'made in India' compact off-roader SUV Jimny

The annual premium amount for 31 life insurance policies of <keyword id="55334" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="arpita-mukherjee" source="Orion">Arpita Mukherjee</keyword>, perceived to the closest confidant of former minister <keyword id="6360499" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="partha-chatterjee" source="Orion">Partha Chatterjee</keyword> in the multi-crore <keyword id="1471058" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="west-bengal-school-service-commission" source="Orion">West Bengal School Service Commission</keyword> (WBSSC) scam, is to the tune of Rs 1.5 crore, according to the <keyword id="6357808" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="enforcement-directorate" source="Orion">Enforcement Directorate</keyword> (ED). The figure was quoted by the probe agency in its first charge sheet that was submitted to a special ED court on Monday. It is also mentioned that Chatterjee himself was the nominee for most of these life insurance policies. What is more interesting is that such a huge premium was paid from the different bank accounts of the former state education minister, as per records of bank statements recovered by the central agency sleuths. In these policies, Chatterjee was mentioned as <keyword id="6364914" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="mukherjee" source="Orion">Mukherjee</keyword>'s uncle. "This entire sequence of insurance policies and their payment process are proof enough to nullify the argument raised by some sections that Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee were mere acquaintances. These life insurance policies are solid proof of how intimate the two were," said an ED official. Apart from these lpolicies, some other land property jointly owned by Chatterjee and Mukherjee will also come handy for the central agency sleuths to establish the intimate relationship between the duo, the official noted. In the charge sheet, the ED hasnamed a total eight persons -- Chatterjee, Mukherjee and six directors of shell companies floated with the purpose of diverting scam proceeds to different channels. The probe agency has mentioned assets worth Rs 103.10 crore held by Chatterjee and Mukherjee. ED officials said that the assets include cash amounting to Rs 49.80 crore and gold worth Rs 5.08 crore seized from the two residences of Mukherjee in Kolkata in July. The remaining amount is in the form of other immoveable assets like bank deposits, property in the form of land and residences and investment in a number of companies. It has also named Chatterjee and Mukherjee as the prime accused in the scam. Arpita Mukherjee has 31 life insurance policies with ₹1.5 cr annual premium: ED

The <keyword id="895682" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani-Ports">Adani Ports</keyword> and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) Ltd. is acquiring the 58.1 per cent stake held by D.V.S. Raju and family in the Gangavaram Port Limited (GPL). The acquisition is valued at ₹3,604 crore and subject to regulatory approvals. APSEZ, the transportation arm of <keyword id="6367820" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="adani-group">Adani Group</keyword>, had announced acquisition of Warburg Pincus's 31.5 per cent stake in GPL on March 3 and together with this acquisition, APSEZ would have 89.6 per cent stake in GPL. GPL is located in the northern part of <keyword id="37102" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh">Andhra Pradesh</keyword> next to Vizag Port. It is the second largest non-major port in Andhra Pradesh with a 64 MMT capacity established under concession from the Government of Andhra Pradesh (GoAP) that extends till 2059. It is an all-weather, deep water, multipurpose port capable of handling fully laden super cape size vessels of up to 200,000 DWT. Currently, GPL operates nine berths and has free hold land of 1,800 acres. With a master plan capacity for 250 MMTPA with 31 berths, GPL also has headroom to support future growth. GPL handles a diverse mix of dry and bulk commodities including Coal, Iron Ore, Fertilizer, Limestone, Bauxite, Sugar, Alumina, and Steel. GPL is the gateway port for a hinterland spread over eight states across eastern, southern and <keyword id="92952" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Central-India">central India</keyword>. The acquisition will help GPL to benefit from APSEZ's pan-India footprint, logistics integration, customer centric philosophy, operational efficiencies and strong balance sheet to deliver a combination of high growth by enhancing market share and add additional cargo types and improved margins and returns. In FY20, GPL had a cargo volume of 34.5 MMT, revenue of ₹1,082 crore, EBITDA of ₹634 crore (59 per cent margin) and PAT of ₹516 crore GPL is debt free with a cash balance of over ₹500 crore. The company has a paid up share capital of 51.7 crore shares of which 58.1 per cent is owned by DVS Raju and Family (Promoter), 10.4 per cent by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and 31.5 per cent by Warburg Pincus. APSEZ announced acquisition of 31.5 per cent stake of Warburg Pincus on March 3 for ₹120/share and shall acquire the D.V.S. Raju stake of 30 crore shares (58.1 per cent) also at ₹120/share which works out to a consideration of ₹3,604 crore. The transaction implies EV/EBITDA multiple of 8.9x and P/E multiple of 12.0x (based on FY20 figures) and is a value accretive transaction for APSEZ shareholders. Adani Ports to acquire 58% stake in Andhra Pradesh's Gangavaram port

<keyword id="895682" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani-Ports">Adani Ports</keyword> and <keyword id="6365230" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="special-economic-zone">Special Economic Zone</keyword> Limited (APSEZ) on Monday announced the completion of the acquisition of <keyword id="9624334" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="krishnapatnam-port-company-ltd">Krishnapatnam Port Company Ltd</keyword>, (KPCL) for an enterprise value of Rs 12,000 crore. It will result in APSEZ having a controlling stake of 75 per cent in KPCL from the CVR Group and other investors. This acquisition will accelerate APSEZ's stride towards 500 MMT by 2025 and is another step in implementing APSEZ's stated strategy of cargo parity between west and east coasts of India, <keyword id="76451" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani">Adani</keyword> Ports said in a regulatory filing. <keyword id="1033941" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karan-Adani">Karan Adani</keyword>, Chief Executive Officer and Whole Time Director of APSEZ said: "This transformational acquisition enables us to roll out world class customer service to an increased customer base and provide pan-India solution to them. He added that the company's experience of turning around acquisitions like Dhamra and Kattupalli ports will enable it in harnessing the potential of KPCL. "With a vast waterfront and land availability of over 6,700 acres, KPCL is capable of replicating Mundra and would be future ready to handle 500 MMT. We will replicate our operations and maintenance philosophy at KPCL, continue to focus on environment, reduce emission levels and have zero tolerance for fatalities and thus improve returns to stakeholders," Adani said.

Adani Ports completes ₹12,000 crore  acquisition of Krishnapatnam Port Company

The serious disruption caused to traffic flows through the <keyword id="168216" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suez-canal">Suez Canal</keyword> after a container ship went aground, has once again drawn attention to an expanded International North <keyword id="9996536" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="south-corridor">South Corridor</keyword> (INSTC) as a superior transit option in the years to come. Russia, Iran, and India have been quietly working on establishing a 7,200 km-long, multimodal trade corridor called INSTC. As it evolves, the INSTC is adding vital new spurs, fast emerging as a gigantic enterprise, which would link South Asia and West Asia with the beating heart of the Eurasian mainland. "The North-South corridor is a great option to replace the Suez Canal with a reduction in <keyword id="11048224" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="travel-times">travel times</keyword> to 20 days and savings of up to 30 percent," Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali wrote in a three-language post on his Facebook page late Saturday. The envoy pointed out that the $9 billion damage to the global economy caused by the Ever Given container vessel, that got struck and blocked international shipping, demonstrates that "the need to speed up the completion of infrastructure and the North-South corridor as an alternative to the route through the Suez Canal has become clear and more important than ever." The ultra-bold INSTC project came into being in 2002, when the transport ministers of Russia, Iran, and India signed an agreement to establish a 7200 kilometer multimodal ship, rail and road-based <keyword id="970255" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="transport-network">transport network</keyword>. Starting from Mumbai, it would head to Moscow via Iran and the Caspian Sea. Currently, the INSTC is set to spread its radials on a much bigger canvass. Essentially, the new INSTC is a combination of two corridors. One starts as originally conceived, from Mumbai and heads to Bandar Abbas, a famous Iranian port in the Gulf. From here it takes the overland route to Bandar Anzali, which is located on the Caspian Sea coast in the north. Containers are off-loaded here and shipped along the Caspian to its Russian shore at Astrakhan, which becomes the base of further transportation into Eurasia. Over time, other countries are being networked in this rapidly mutating corridor including Azerbaijan and Armenia, in tune with the rise of Eurasia in the 21 st century. The second corridor, or the <keyword id="1955428" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chabahar">Chabahar</keyword> route also begins at Mumbai, though Gujarat's upstart Mundra port is now acquiring greater resonance. From India's west coast, the corridor heads to Chabahar, Iran's only <keyword id="12350" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Ocean">Indian Ocean</keyword> port, which is still a work-in-progress with a vast potential. From Chabahar, in which India is pitching major investment, the route heads towards Afghanistan via Iran's Sistan Baluchistan province along a recent India-built road. Over time, a railway is also envisaged, which will link Chabahar with the Hajigak** iron ore mines in Afghanistan, where India has made major investments. Planners of the INSTC now want to link the two routes into a giant undertaking that will allow landlocked regions of Eurasia, not only to access the increasingly congested Bandar Abbas, but also the rapidly expanding <keyword id="190285" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chabahar-port">Chabahar port</keyword> and route. Denting allout criticism that India has been wrongly facing about going overboard with the Indo-pacific Quad and abandoning its "strategic autonomy," New Delhi has actually emerged as a strong votary for the twinning of the two routes, with a vast pan-Eurasian reach. Last month, India and Iran celebrated Chabahar day, where external affairs minister <keyword id="337334" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="S-Jaishankar">S. Jaishankar</keyword> proposed the integration of the Chabahar Port with the INSTC. "I am hopeful that during the INSTC Coordination Council meeting, member-states would agree to the expansion of the INSTC route to include the Chabahar Port and also agree on expanding the membership of this project." To develop the composite route further, Russian and Iranian media have been reporting that serious discussions are underway on the construction of a trans-Iranian canal, running from the Persian Gulf to the Caspian Sea. Analysts, however, say that the plans for a Russian-Iranian trans-Iranian canal are not new. They first emerged in the late 19th century. Ambitious Russian engineers had then charted blueprints for a navigable canal, which would offer Moscow a shorter path to the Indian Ocean, bypassing the Turkish Straits and Egypt's Suez Canal. But political crises and revolutions in both countries had kept the idea frozen. However, with the Suez route once again demonstrating its vulnerability, the idea of an alternative trade passage may have finally arrived. Suez Canal issue reprised interest in the North South Corridor being built by India, Russia and Iran as an alternative

New Delhi, Jan 7 () Acquisition of Krishnapatnam Port Company by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) will increase the latter's market share and diversity, Moody's Investors Service said on Tuesday.
The analysis comes after APSEZ's acquisition of 75 per cent stake in debt-laden Krishnapatnam Port Company Ltd (KPCL) in Andhra Pradesh for Rs 5,625 crore in an all-cash deal.
Moody's said the acquisition is in line with APSEZ's target of throughput volumes of 400 MT by fiscal 2025.
KPCL is a multi-cargo port that registered throughput volumes of 54.4 million tonne in 2018-19. KPCL is the second-largest private port in India by volume after APSEZ's Mundra port.
"The addition of KPCL to APSEZ portfolio will increase APSEZ's market share and its diversity, both geographically and in its cargo composition," Moody's said.
It pointed out that APSEZ's leverage, as measured by funds from operations/debt, should remain above 15-18 per cent after the acquisition.
"While APSEZ's outstanding consolidated debt will significantly increase by 18 -20 per cent as a result of the acquisition, the refinancing risk is manageable because of the cash flow visibility from the group's assets, staggered nature of the debt maturities and diversified funding sources," said Abhishek Tyagi, a Moody's Vice President and Senior Analyst.
"In addition, the slightly weaker metrics post acquisition will be counterbalanced by KPCL's strong positioning and market share on the east coast of India," added Tyagi. NAM NAM ANU
