The regime only says this is an act of sabotage, and that US Senator Marco Rubio and the Venezuelan opposition are to blame for it.From people inside the electric industry, we know that an overheat alarm was triggered between the San Geronimo B and Malena substations, which are like nodes. San Geronimo B is just South of Valle de La Pascua (Guarico state, central plains); Malena is a bit in the middle of nowhere, between Bolivar's Trocal 19 and the Orinoco River.From San Geronimo B substation, comes the electric load to power all the TVs, light bulbs, blenders, etc. At Malena substation end the cables that come directly from the turning water wheels of the Guri dam. If you follow the lines from Guri, the country's main dam South of Ciudad Guayana, they go North from Guri to Malena and San Geronimo, and from there it splits into several lines going to the central region and then to the rest of the country (East and West).<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div>This particular corridor carries three 765 kV (kilovolts) power lines, which are the largest and most important lines of the country. One of these lines, apparently the one between San Geronimo B and Malena, went out and overloaded the other two, so all three died. When all of a sudden the lines went off and power wasn't getting through, not only all those TVs, blenders and lights went off: The water wheels started to spin out of control (in the industry we call this scenario a "load rejection"). Protections systems kicked in and the turbines shut themselves off, hopefully with no damage.Imagine the National Electric System as a bicycle. The rear wheel is all the electric load, the pedals are the turbines, the Caroni river as the legs powering it, and the chain connecting the whole system are those 765 kV lines. On March 7th, that chain broke.The engineers suspect that the overheat alarm was triggered by a forest fire. It is mandatory to keep vegetation trimmed under and around power lines, to avoid the risk of this kind of events. Anyone that has driven by the countryside and under these large power lines would see there's a corridor under the lines. Red Echo may be linked to the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/mumbais-massive-power-cut-last-month-may-have-been-the-work-of-hackers/articleshow/79318282.cms">massive power outage in Mumbai</a> that crippled banks and the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/stock-market/news/nse-halts-trading-after-data-glitches-stop-nifty50-and-bank-nifty-from-updating/articleshow/81186539.cms">glitch at the National Stock Exchange</a> (NSE), which the authorities are still investigating. India needs a cybersecurity policy with more bite Pankit Desai, chief executive and co-founder of Sequretek, a Mumbai-based cybersecurity firm, feels that India’s critical infrastructure has already opened India to a Trojan horse situation. He thinks that the only way for any new policy to be effective is to have more bite than bark. “We don’t need frameworks, there are enough of them that already exist. What we need is an institution with teeth that will force these entities to step up their security investments much like what RBI [Reserve Bank of India] did for banks,” he told Business Insider. It has been eight years since India’s cybersecurity framework was first unveiled, but not much has been done in terms of creating a coordinated approach to address cyber threats — especially when it comes to the country’s critical infrastructure. “The response to a cyber threat should be at least as coordinated as the emergency response to the floods in Uttarakhand last month,” Avimukt Dar, founding member and senior partner at IndusLaw, told Business Insider. The private sector has a key role to play The question isn’t only about coordination between public stakeholders, but private ones too. According to Dar, companies and businesses will only report any kind of cyber incidents if they get something in return. “Until and unless companies are being held to ransom, the details don’t come out — we saw this last year,” he said. Not sharing data can leave behind a gaping hole of information. According to Singapore-based cybersecurity firm Cyfirma, cyber intelligence sharing is critical for players within a specific industry or a group of companies in order to fight cybercrime, effectively. “This can create a common repository of known threats, malware, attack vectors and methods, giving organisations additional ammunition to mount more effective defence strategies. And this can only be done if reporting of data breaches is made mandatory,” Kumar Ritesh, the founder and CEO of Cyfirma told Business Insider. In order to incentivise private players to report cyber threats in a quick and prompt way, the government needs to beef up its ability to protect Indian data from attacks and show Indian businesses that it's doing something meaningful and credible to allow their business continuity. What will the new framework mean for ordinary folks? The new rules are an indication that the regulatory powers under Ravi Shankar Prasad’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) are increasing. “MeitY was historically a ministry intended to promote IT and electronics. Of late, it has a larger regulatory role which we saw in the IT Rules that came out in February. The IT Act is getting fully operationalised,” said Dar. What is worrying is that India is currently <a href="https://internetshutdowns.in/">leading the world</a> in the number of days the internet has been shut down in one part of the country or another increasing the deficit of trust that the public has with the government. Moreover, the recently passed IT Rules for social media, over-the-top (OTT) platforms and digital news have raised concerns about breaking encryption and the level of overreach that the government may have at its disposal. “What we need to have in this policy are significant safeguards, which do not allow for people’s privacy to be compromised.You always have to assume there can be bad faith apples within the government too,” said Dar. There have already been multiple cases of US government employees <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/Egregious-Cases-Of-US-Government-Employees-Abusing-Databases-To-Spy-On-Americans/articleshow/21031032.cms">abusing databases</a> to spy on ordinary citizens. In order to allay concerns, Dar recommends that there should be sufficient punishment in place to address the issue. "It should not be an administrative punishment, it should be a stiff criminal punishment for doing something wrong — like a jail sentence," he said. Others have a more positive stance on the problem and believe that there will, inevitably, be some degree of trade off between the privacy of users and the security concerns of the state. "Both are equally legitimate concerns – but are entirely premised on what the government wants to take in relation to their framework... At present, it appears that India is greatly focussing on protecting its critical infrastructures pertaining to health, education, end-user station, nuclear sector, etc. Therefore, end-users are likely to be affected to some extent, however, that may be for the greater good.," opined Chakraborty. It has taken over 7 years for India to revamp its cybersecurity policy — experts say there's room for carrots and sticks but not surveillance

Only users with a referral code can login right now.</li></ul> In a fresh move for Indian users, Google is testing its ‘Task Mate’ service in India. It allows users to complete tasks on a smartphone and get paid for it. The Silicon Valley giant is probably hoping to gain some goodwill in the current climate of rising unemployment as a fall out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Task Mate is not unlike the company’s Opinion Rewards app that allows users to answer questions and earn Play Store credits in return, except for one key difference. Instead of the earnings being restricted to Google’s app store, Task Mate will let users cash out their payments so that they can spend in the real world. First spotted by <a href="https://9to5google.com/2020/11/22/google-task-mate/">9to5Google</a>, a post on <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/india/comments/jx615p/google_seems_to_be_testing_their_new_task_mate/">Reddit</a> shows that access to Task Mate is currently restricted to early access. Only individuals with an early access referral code can download the app. How do you earn money on <keyword id="10316600" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="googles-task-mate">Google’s Task Mate</keyword>? The overall framework is pretty straightforward. Users can search for ‘tasks nearby’ and then choose which one they would like to complete. The tasks themselves can either be something from one of Google's businesses around the world, or from Google itself. A business task can either be a ‘sitting task’ or a ‘field task’. It is unclear whether that will be changed to reflect in rupees for the Indian audience once Google’s Task Mate is officially launched in the region. One could critique that this is just one more way for Google to gather information. However, Google is already doing that — regardless of Task Mate. At least this way, there’s a chance that you can get paid for it. BEML BEML, a Bengaluru-based public sector undertaking, has bagged orders worth ₹501 crore from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) for additional transfer of six cars, each to operate online 2Band 7 of the Mumbai Metro project. The shares of BEML ended flat on Friday. Bharti Airtel Bharti Airtel on Friday announced that it would acquire 5.2% stake in solar power company Avaada MHBuldhana for ₹4.55 crore in an all-cash deal. Avaada MHBuldhana is working to develop a captive generating solar power plant in Maharashtra, which will become operational by March 2021. The shares of Bharti Airtel ended over 3% higher on Friday. IIFL Securities The Board of IIFL Securities at its meeting held on November 20 has approved buyback of company's shares for an aggregate cash consideration of ₹90 crore, at a price not exceeding ₹54 per share. The shares of IIFL Securities ended nearly a percent lower on Friday. Punjab National Bank Reserve Bank of India has imposed a penalty of ₹1 crore on Punjab National Bank for violating regulatory guidelines. The shares of Punjab National Bank ended nearly a percent lower on Friday. Petronet LNG Petronet LNG has signed a non-binding MoU with the Ministry of Petroleum &amp; Natural Gas with an objective to foray into 'Green Energy and BioFuels' and for setting up of compressed BioGas plants under Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) initiative of the Government. The shares of Petronet LNG ended 2% higher on Friday.
