On Monday, Suhail Shaheen, a spokesperson for the militant group, issued a statement over Twitter denying rumors that Baradar had been killed in a fight. Using a different spelling of Baradar's name and the Taliban's term for Afghanistan, Shaheen said Baradar had used a voice message to reject "all those claims that he was injured or killed in a clash. He says it is lies and totally baseless."The "clash" seemed to refer to rumors that Baradar's supporters had got into a fight with those of Sirajuddin Haqqani, one of his political rivals, Reuters reported.The group released footage it said showed Baradar in meetings in Kandahar, southern Afghanistan, the agency reported. The group also released photographs of a handwritten note that it said was from one of Baradar's deputies, confirming the Kandahar meeting, The Guardian reported.Insider was unable to independently confirm the footage or the audio as authentic and hasn't reviewed the note. The Taliban hasn't made such denials about leader Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada. Nonetheless, the group had continued to issue statements in his name until the death was disclosed, The Guardian reported.The Taliban's secretiveness has generally been attached to its status as an insurgent group - so the disappearances amid its newfound dominance in Afghanistan have fueled the rumors, The Guardian reported.

While such claims may seem ludicrous, there has been a stream of violence and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=fundamentalism">fundamentalism</a> that has been an integral part of society.

Pol Pot was the head of the Khmer Rouge, the Communist guerrilla force that ruled Cambodia in the late 1970s. Pol Pot vouched to introduce ‘real socialism’ to Cambodia at the cost of millions of lives. He is undoubtedly one of the deadliest dictators on the face of the earth. 
The Khmer Rouge’s motivation was that they’ll eradicate the past, and create a past of their own liking. That means if you know anything of the past you’re dead meat. You’ve read a book? Die. You wear glasses? Die. You’re an intellectual? Die twice over. The Pol Pot regime was specially known for the notorious ‘killing fields’ where thousands died in the worst ways possible.

His firm belief that Jews weren’t ‘true’ Germans and that Jews invented Communism led to the infamous gas chambers where millions suffered unimaginable horrors. Its strict Sharia and Islamic laws means they condemn any form of ‘modern entertainment’ like tapes, oppressive rules for women and forceful control. Add to that its international notoriety for sexism and misogyny.

And instead of translating into influence for the Agency, American officials told the Times, the tens of millions of dollars in "ghost money" has undermined U.S. strategy by fueling corruption and empowering warlords.
“The biggest source of corruption in <keyword id="6354541" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="afghanistan">Afghanistan</keyword> was the United States,” one American official told the Times.
The CIA still makes the payments, Rosenberg reports. And the money is still used to pay off warlords and politicians, many of whom have ties to the drug trade or even the Taliban.
A glaring example of the payments conflicting with U.S. interests is the case of President Karzai's half brother, Ahmed Wali Karzai.

He became the Agency's "landlord" when he began renting the former compound of Taliban founder Mullah Mohammed Omar to the CIA and American Special Operations troops.
The compound was the base of the Kandahar Strike Force, a militia run by Ahmed Karzai and used by the CIA to combat militants.
According to internal emails from the U.S. private security firm Stratfor, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/hacked-stratfor-emails-dea-told-to-back-off-from-the-brother-of-afghan-president-hamid-karzai-2012-9#ixzz2Ronv4laW">in 2007 the DEA was investigating Ahmed Karzai</a> for being a "major narcotics trafficker."
The emails say that the DEA has was told to back off their investigation by the White House and CIA, despite DEA concerns that the drug money was fueling terrorism.

DEA is seeing a direct nexus between terrorism and narcotics in Afghanistan with narcotics sales being used to fund jihadist operations.

Production <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-south-asia-15254788">rose by about 61 percent</a> from 2010 to 2011 and <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/21/world/asia/afghan-opium-cultivation-rose-in-2012-un-says.html">continued to rise in 2012</a> as U.S. troops patrolled the poppy fields.

Rosenberg notes that President Karzai <a href="http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C07E3D81130F930A1575BC0A9669D8B63&amp;ref=mohammedziasalehi">had Salehi released</a> within hours, and the CIA subsequently helped persuade the Obama administration to <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/09/world/asia/09kabul.html?ref=mohammedziasalehi">back off</a> its sprawling anti-corruption push.
