<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Amazon may be <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/synergy-research-amazon-dominates-16-billion-cloud-market-2015-2">the 800-pound gorilla of the cloud computing market</a>, but Google is roaring like a lion about its new super cheap "nearline" cloud storage service.</p><p>Google today announced <a href="https://cloud.google.com/storage/docs/nearline-storage" target="_blank">Google Cloud Storage Nearline </a>which will cost just 1 cent per gigabyte per month for data that will be accessed in 3 seconds or less. </p><p>Nearline storage is good for stuff you want to access regularly but that don't necessarily need instantly, like photos, videos, or a company's business documents. (It would not be useful for, say, storing data from your business that you need to analyze.) It can also be used by any consumer service that stores such stuff.</p><p>A Google spokesperson told us that this service will "revolutionize" storage and that claim was followed by Tom Kershaw, director of product management for Google Cloud Platform, who characterized the service as "ground-shaking."</p><p>"Prior to this ground-shaking announcement, there was two classes of storage. Storage for content serving or data you are analyzing. And then archival storage, stuff you aren't going to look at," Kershaw says.</p><p>We're not sure we would agree this is "ground-shaking" - enterprises have been buying "nearline" storage devices for eons - but this is a dirt-cheap option for fast-enough storage.</p><p>In comparison, Amazon has an cloud service called Glacier, also for 1 cent per gigabyte per month, but it could take Glacier <a href="http://aws.amazon.com/glacier/">"several hours" to retrieve stuff stored in it</a>. Glacier is for long-term archival - things you rarely if ever need to access, like backups, long-term email records, and the like.</p><p>This service is just another way that Google is pushing the entire tech industry <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/cloud-storage-race-to-zero-2014-11">toward the dreaded "race to zero"</a> - the day when cloud storage will be essentially free, and cloud providers will have to figure out how to make money by offering other things on top of storage.</p><p>Google is backing up its big talk with a bunch of new partnerships to encourage <keyword id="6356323" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Enterprise">enterprise</keyword> customers to try its new cloud storage. Google: Our new service will 'revolutionize' the computer storage industry

And because technology has become all-consuming, it's also to be sure that its easy to stay connected.</p><p>AT&amp;T recently struck a deal to power 10 million Ford vehicles equipped with the automaker's SYNC interface over the next five years.</p><p>Get ready for many more rolling Wi-Fi hotspots to hit the road. (General Motors has already introduced its own 4G LTE connectivity package through its OnStar feature.)</p><p>"The internet of things is really what's driving this," Matt DeWolf, director of mobile strategy at the business vehicle services company, Runzheimer told Business Insider.</p><p>DeWolf believes the connected car is more than just a segment in the automotive space. "The connected car is an appliance, and it will play a major role in this growing ecosystem of connected devices."</p><p>Automakers and tech giants have already begun to introduce those concepts.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Harold Cunningham/Getty Images</span></p><p class="caption">A Rinspeed Budii autonomous car concept is shown during the 85th International Motor Show on March 3, 2015 in Geneva, Switzerland.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><h2>Where is all of this innovation taking us?</h2><p>Now that the auto and tech industries have effectively reimagined the car as a tethered internet device, the logical next step is cars that talk to each other.</p><p>Such vehicles will eventually be driving themselves - because you need vehicles to communicate with each other and their surroundings in order to operate autonomously.</p><p>Automakers and tech companies have shown measured progress here, but there's still a long way to go. Everything is at play. The internet-of-things, remote software updates and the tethering of home automation services in the car.</p><p>Major automakers have apparently realized that smartphone makers were beating them in the innovation game. Connected cars are a preview to something much bigger than the car

<li>There was quite a bit of company-specific news today.  Leading the way was Twitter, which <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/twitter-is-getting-annihilated-2014-2">crashed after the company published</a> its quarterly financial results. The company's earnings were actually stronger than expected, but management indicated that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/twitter-engagement-2014-2">Twitter users' timeline views </a>were actually on the decline.</li>
<li>Shares of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/coca-cola-is-buying-10-of-green-mountain-2014-2">Green Mountain Coffee exploded</a> after Coca-Cola announced it would be taking a 10% stake in the company. "With The Coca-Cola Company as a global strategic partner in our multi-brand at-home Keurig Cold beverage system, we believe there is significant opportunity to premiumize and accelerate growth in the cold beverage category by empowering consumers with an innovative, convenient way to freshly prepare their favorite cold beverages at the push of a button," said Green Mountain CEO Brian Kelley.</li>
<li>Initially, push-button beverage company <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/sodastream-shares-are-going-bananas-2014-2">SodaStream crumbled on the news</a>, as it appeared an 800-lb gorilla of a competitor had entered its space. But the stock actually ended up rallying. Some folks speculated that short-covering may have pushed prices higher.</li>
<li><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/initial-jobless-claims-february-1-2014-2">Initial weekly jobless claims</a> fell to 331,000 from 351,00o a week ago. This was slightly better than the 335,000 level expected by economists. However, the harsh winter weather continues to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/winter-wreaks-havoc-with-economic-data-2014-2">distort the data</a>. "According to MNI, the Labor Department reported no special factors but noted that data for Kansas were estimated. as an ice storm forced state offices to close," said Barclays' Cooper Howes.</li>
<li>The number was nevertheless encouraging as investors and traders anxiously wait for Friday's official U.S. jobs report. Economists estimate U.S. companies added 180,000 nonfarm payrolls in January. Societe Generale's Brian Jones is looking for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/wall-streets-most-bullish-jobs-forecast-2014-2">a 270,000 blowout number</a>.  "W<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">eather-related and fundamental </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">factors support our expectation for a marked pickup in job creation last month," wrote Jones in a note to clients</span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">. "Figures collected by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">(NOAA) revealed that at 32.9o degrees Fahrenheit, temperatures nationwide were 2.1o degrees warmer than usual over </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">the month-to-date ended January 18 - a fairly dramatic improvement from the mean 27.8o degrees </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">(5.6o degrees below normal) suffered over the first two weeks of December. Rather than guess at the </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">number of persons who could not work because of inclement weather in January, we decided </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">to explicitly incorporate the NOAA series in our modelling procedure.</span>"</li>

STOCKS RALLY, TWITTER DIVES: Here's What You Need To Know

<p class="p1">There's Astoria, Crown Heights, Elmhurst, Bushwick, Greenpoint, Long Island City, Flushing, and 300 other neighborhoods in this city of 8 million people. </p>
<p class="p1"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Yet when tourists think of New York, they always seem to think of one thing: Manhattan. </span></p>
<p class="p1"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">And although Manhattan is pretty, there are four other incredible boroughs, and </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">each has its own individual identity. </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island have endless opportunities for new and exciting things to discover. </span></p>
<p class="p1"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">I've just moved here, and I've been exploring some of what this huge place has to offer. While this list does not pretend to be at all comprehensive, it is a small glimpse into some of the many things to do outside of Manhattan.</span></p>
<h1>BROOKLYN</h1>
<h3><a href="http://mastbrothers.com/"><strong>Take a Mast Brothers Chocolate tour</strong></a></h3>

Founded by Michael Mast and his older brother Rick, the two brothers make all sorts of different flavored chocolates. </span></p>
<p>Every Saturday and Sunday afternoon, they give tours that let you take an exclusive look at how Mast Brothers have pioneered craft chocolate, so it's basically like taking a tour of the Willy Wonka chocolate factory. </p>
<h3><a href="http://www.bbg.org/"><strong>Escape to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden</strong></a></h3>
<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><span style="color: #222222; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">If the stress of the city has become too much to handle, the best cure could be a serene walk through the botanic gardens in Brooklyn. </span></p>
<p class="p1">The Brooklyn Botanic Garden has over 10,000 types of plants spanning its 52-acre garden. <span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Founded in 1910, the spread also has more than 200 cherry trees, a rose garden with some of its original plants, and a Japanese hill-and-pond garden. </span></p>
<p class="p1">It even has special events for the <span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">dreary </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">winter months. One is called, "Light In Winter," which celebrates the beauty of the garden and the connection to nature during the darkest months of the year.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Bonus: </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Starting November 1st and running through February 28, the garden is free to the public on weekdays.</span></p>
<h3><strong><a href="http://www.prospectpark.org/">Take a long walk through Prospect Park</a></strong></h3>
<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><span style="color: #222222; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Prospect Park is a lush 585-acre public park in Brooklyn. </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">It's well-known for the 90-acre Long Meadow, which is one of the longest uninterrupted stretches of park in the country. The park is also home to Brooklyn's only forest, the Lefferts historic house, a zoo, and a historic carousel. </span></p>
<p class="p1">In the winter, <span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">visitors can ice-skate, cross-country ski, and even go sledding in the Long Meadow. </span></p>
<h3 class="p1"><a href="http://brooklynflea.com/">Find some treasures at Brooklyn Flea</a></h3>

<p>From April through Thanksgiving the market is on the streets, but in November the market moves indoors. </p>

<p>It once served as the first school in Long Island City and has preserved much of it's original architecture, <span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">which means that the space has very unique classroom-sized galleries. </span></p>
<h3><a href="http://socratessculpturepark.org/">Check out the outdoor art at Socrates Sculpture Park</a></h3>
<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">The four acre park is the largest outdoor space in New York City dedicated to exhibiting sculpture. It was once an abandoned landfill and illegal dump-site, and was converted into a outdoor sculpture laboratory by a coalition of young artists led by sculptor Mark di Suvero. It was meant to be an outdoor sculpture laboratory dedicated to up-and-coming artists. </span></p>
<p>In addition to being an exhibition space, the park offers an arts education program, artist residency program, and job training.</p>
<h3><a href="http://www.silvercupstudios.com/">Walk through the iconic Silver Cup Studios</a></h3>

Some notable exhibits include the Congo Gorilla Forest, a guided monorail tour of Wild Asian animals, Tiger Mountain, and one-of-a-kind wildlife from Madagascar. </span></p>
<p>Bonus: Admission is free on Wednesday's, but donations are always recommended. </p>
<h3 class="p2"><a href="http://www.bronxhistoricalsociety.org/poecottage.html">Visit the cottage where Edgar Allan Poe wrote "Annabel Lee"</a></h3>

The six-room cottage was home to Poe and his wife Virgina in 1844. Poe wrote the famous poems "Annabel Lee," "The Bells," and "Eureka" while living in this cottage. </span></p>
<p>The home is now operated as a historic house museum by the Bronx Country Historical Society, and is furnished with gothic items that actually belonged to Poe, including the bed that his beloved wife Virgina died in. </p>
<h3><a href="http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/nyy/ballpark/">Visit "The House That Ruth Built" and tour Yankee Stadium</a></h3>

<p>In the parking lot of the stadium you'll find the Fame City mural, which features Yankee legends <span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, and Thurman Munson.</span></p>
<h3><a href="http://www.arthuravenuebronx.com/">Stroll through Arthur Avenue, otherwise known as New York's 'Real' Little Italy</a></h3>

<p>Some famous spots on Arthur Avenue to check out are Casa Della Mozzarella, Madonia Brothers Bakery, Cosenza's Fish Market, and Peter's Meat Market. </p>
<h1>STATEN ISLAND</h1>

The Farm Colony was once a collection of farmhouses that rehabilitated New York City's again poor, but it was shut down in 1975 and left abandoned.</span></p>
<p>Because the structures of the Farm Colony are enveloped in trees and vines, they are only visible from November until May. </p>

<p class="p1"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Built in 2004, Postcards is an outdoor sculpture in the St. George neighborhood of Staten Island. It was built as a permanent memorial honoring the 274 Staten Island residents who were killed in the September 11 attacks and the 1993 Word Trade Center bombing. </span></p>
<p class="p2"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">The outdoor sculpture represents two large postcards, and each Staten Island victim is honored with a 9 X 11 inch granite plaque bearing their picture, name, birthday, and place of work at the time of the September 11 attacks.   </span></p>
