<ul><li>In an exclusive interview with Business Insider, Andrew James, the Lead Architect and senior principal at Populous, shares the story behind designing <keyword id="12701" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Motera-Stadium">Motera Stadium</keyword>. </li><li>Populous is a global leading architecture design firm which has also designed sections of Lord’s as well as the <keyword id="89542" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Melbourne-Cricket-Ground">Melbourne Cricket Ground</keyword>. </li><li>Motera was possibly one of the most challenging projects as the budget was about a sixth compared to other international peers.</li></ul>The majestic Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, was visualised three years ago by Populous, the same company that designed sections of the ‘home of cricket’, the Lord’s Stadium in London, and the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), which was the largest cricket stadium in the world until Motera was built. And the headlines it made were superlative right from the word go. But Motera was possibly one of the most challenging projects as the budget was about a sixth compared to other international peers. Building the Motera Stadium: Behind the scenes Andrew James, the Lead Architect and senior principal at Populous, told Business Insider that the brief for Motera was simple – it has to be larger than the MCG. And having been the lead designer for the MCG as well, James got to work and designed Motera with 9,000 more seats. <div type="image" title="Designers Vision of Motera" msid="77499185" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Designers Vision of Motera&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The global architecture design firm started working on the Motera Stadium after L&amp;T approached them for a collaboration in 2017. Having worked in India before, James knew that to win the client over for this he had to make sure the Gujarat Cricket Association liked the design, they met the criteria and everything, while offering the best price. “Our design came in 20% less than the competitors. Having designed the best stadiums in the world, we knew exactly what was required and what was not,” said James. Motera Stadium - What sets it apart James said that the Motera, designed like a bowl, is a very utilitarian building. The stadium along with 110,000 seats boasts of a community indoor cricket academy, a dormitory for up to 40 athletes, six indoor practice pitches and three outdoor practice fields. It also includes four-team dressing rooms and facilities, state-of-the-art club facilities and a VIP pavilion, three practice grounds, an Olympic-size swimming pool, 76 corporate boxes and a media lounge with press rooms. Every aspect of the stadium has been built in international standards, but the differentiator remains the size of it, within a tight space. “It’s built on the earlier cricket ground but is much bigger. Just the footprints of the stadium were touching the boundaries,” said James. And there began the challenges of Motera. Along with the space crunch, Populous had to design the stadium keeping safety in manner. “With a stadium in India, the biggest fear is not just about the structure collapsing but also the sheer amount of people leaving the stadium together,” he said, and added that unlike the West, people in India don’t mind crowds. <div type="image" title="Crowd at Motera during President Trump&amp;#39;s visit" msid="77499195" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Crowd at Motera during President Trump&amp;#39;s visit&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The biggest challenge was also the budget. James shared that the budget for Motera ₹600-700 crore, whereas a stadium of the same size in England or Australia would cost six times as much. The recently announced Jaipur Cricket Stadium was set to be larger than life Jaipur is set to get the world’s third largest cricket stadium with 75,000 seats, but six years ago, the then head of the Rajasthan Cricket Association Lalit Modi had commissioned Populous to build something the world hadn’t seen before. “The stadium in talks then was supposed to be much different than how it’s being designed today. It was supposed to be smaller, with 30,000 seats but was designed to be the most exciting party venue in the world,” shared James. Populous’ idea was to recreate the stepwell culture in Rajasthan and have a stadium that was daggered into the ground. James said that the idea wasn’t just to earn money from the stadium when it holds a cricket match once a year, but instead have a venue which was beyond cricket. While the Jaipur Cricket Stadium is not on their docket anymore, Populous, which has designed more than 3,500 projects worth $40 billion in the last 30 years continues to look at several other projects in India. Having consolidated their leadership in the wall clocks segment, Ajanta-Orpat Group is now focussed on kitchen appliances, especially, grinders and fans as the next target growth area for the company. Business Insider caught up with the Director of Orpat- Ajanta Group Nevil Patel in an exclusive chat on their journey so far, what sets them apart, and their growth plans going ahead. Ajanta-Orpat’s journey from ₹1 lakh to ₹1200 crore company Nevil Patel is the third generation of his family running this business. Patel told Business Insider that in 1985 their company was the first one to bring quartz technology in India before that they had the mechanical clocks. “From a small assembler of 100 pieces per month, the production of clocks reached up to a level of ₹1.35 crores a year, which is a record in history,” he said <div type="image" title="Nevil Patel" msid="77798069" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Nevil Patel Director, Ajanta-ORPAT Group &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> His grandfather, Odhavjibhai R Patel began this wall-clock making business with ₹1 lakh rupees. This Gujarat based company, which is also the world’s largest wall clock manufacturer, has grown from an annual turnover of ₹200 crore to over ₹1200 crore now. Today, besides being an exporter in over 45 countries, the Group holds a range of different products— from the calculator, telephone, toys to home appliances, including blender, room heater, fans, iron, grinders, and some more. These are the edited transcripts of the interview. Q) What has changed for the company in this lockdown? As we get classified into semi-essential categories in terms of home appliances and kitchen appliances, we just had to close our factory for 40 days. We were later in the green zone as the government classified it and were the first area to open the factories post-lockdown. The anti-China sentiments of retailers and suppliers helped us pick up really well. But things changed after we started. We had to put a lot of changes in terms of processes. We have a lot of buses that carry all our 5,000 employees. Now that became risky. So initially, we were working at a 30% capacity to adhere to social distancing norms. We introduced temperature checking and sanitising, and gradually we all got to fit into the process of wearing a mask. Q) What is the market share you hold in the clock segment? We hold a 90% market share in the clock segment in India. Largely, in the wall clocks segment. Q) How does your company benefit from the border tensions? The India-China standoff especially has been simmering for a few months now. Since we are totally a Made in India (company), we have everything manufactured in India. So you know there is a huge sentiment at the best level— that is the consumer level, which is obviously going up to the retailer and suppliers that they prefer having the Indian companies. Also, because of the COVID, the imports from China were being delayed, and that’s why the competitive brands, which were importing and selling in India were not able to fulfill the demand. That demand also shifted to us. Q) What percent of your raw material is imported? We do import raw material, and we import it from China. We have been trying for the last ten years to stop importing. But there are certain raw materials that we still do not have an alternative for, which we are in the process of finding. But if ten years back we were importing 40% of the raw material, today we are at 3%. Certain raw materials need time to build up an alternative for. Q) What is the growth percent you are expecting in the coming months? Honestly, we were growing very aggressively in terms of appointing new distributors. But because of the lockdown, a lot of people can’t travel. And, our model is a little different where the distributor needs to come to the factories to understand the process, and how to service the products, etc. So that delay in the process is the reason we might not be in a position to see a growth percentage. It all depends on how the festive season picks up. We are all expecting the coming months to be critical. We also have a lot of business coming from the room heaters category. So that is the season that will come up. However, we lost a fan season when most of the country was under the lockdown. Q) What is the business strategy in the coming months? As I said, we are appointing new distributors. And there were certain territories which we have open. The South was not very strong. There’s a lot of international business that is coming in. We have very good traction for wall clocks in Australia right now. So there’s a lot of international sentiments that are shifting from other countries to India as a manufacturing hub. <div type="image" title="Ajanta-ORPAT Factory Inside" msid="77798080" hostid="261"></div> Q) How many distributors do you have in India? Currently, we have 450 distributors in India. We estimated it to be near 800 by the end of 2022. We have a very strong pipeline, and we have been growing at a much faster rate at the distributor level than we expected. And, we don’t see a problem in reaching that target. Q) Do you have any plans to go public anytime in the future? No, not at the moment. Q) What has been your business focus in the last few years? Ahh, focus, Home appliances, Kitchen appliances, and fans have been our focus other than wall clocks. Again in fans, we are launching a certain technology by the end of this year. We are also launching different technology in a mixer grinder that we plan to launch in November. In terms of fans, we are launching BLDC technology (Brushless DC motors), which is more of a power-saving fan— It will save around 85% of the power. In a mixer grinder, we are launching a very premium product, which can do multiple things. So there are these mixer grinders from international brands in the range of ₹ 40000 to 50000, which can make smoothies, atta’s and soups and all kinds of stuff. We have been working on this for almost two years now. Ours will be completely Made in India and will also be at a much much affordable price. Q) Do you see your market share increasing in the clock segment in the coming months? The wall clock is a difficult sector for a new player to enter. To manufacture a wall clock for a single wall clock, you would need over 200 products and processes. For us, everything for glass cutting to the coil making, everything is done in the house that is the reason we are able to sell it at a reasonable price. There’s a lot of acceptability around the market for our clocks. We will 100% be able to maintain our position as a world leader in clocks. INTERVIEW: Ajanta that sells 9 out of 10 wall clocks in India plans to challenge Havells and TTK Prestige

The Xbox Series X, Microsofts next-generation game console, is set to make its official appearance in November, although there is no information on pricing yet. The Xbox Series X will not have any 'AAA exclusive' tag as <keyword id="10387" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Microsoft">Microsoft</keyword> and video game developer 343 Industries have announced that 'Halo Infinite' game is delayed to 2021. AAA is an informal classification used for video games produced and distributed by a mid-sized or major publisher. Microsoft was supposed to launch the Xbox Series X and Halo Infinite together this fall. "Halo game ever for our fans, while also balancing the team's well-being. To do that, we will need some more time to finish the critical work necessary to launch Halo Infinite, which will come in 2021," the company said in a statement on Tuesday. Despite 'Halo Infinite' being pushed back into next year, Microsoft said that at the Series X's launch, the users will be able to play "over 100 optimised for Xbox Series X titles" before the end of this year. Larry Hryb, the head of Microsoft Xbox Live, recently announced a new quick resume feature for the Xbox Series X, which would instantly resume multiple games after the console has rebooted, or even after switching titles. Microsoft used a similar feature on the Xbox One to resume games, but the Xbox Series X will resume multiple games from a suspended state whether the user rebooting the console, switching games, or resuming from standby. Xbox Series X will include 12 teraflops of GPU performance, which is twice of what is available in the Xbox One X and eight times the original Xbox One. Overall, the Xbox Series X will come with a significant upgrade over the Xbox One X in terms of processing power and will house new features for the immersive gaming experience. The console is designed to be used in both vertical and horizontal orientations and it will deliver four times the processing power of Xbox One X in the most quiet and efficient way. It will be powered by custom-designed AMD CPU based on Zen 2 and Radeon architecture. Microsoft confirms Xbox Series X to launch in November

<ul><li>A new algorithm to find trolls on <keyword id="6354616" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Twitter">Twitter</keyword> only needs 50 tweets to tell the difference between a troll’s tweet and a genuine tweet. </li><li>Trolls have been a bane for Twitter, and the social networking platform has launched new features like limiting replies to counter the threat. </li><li>Some have criticised Twitter’s approach for impeding freedom of speed by suppressing unpopular opinions. </li><li>This algorithm could present a possible hybrid solution to keep trolls at bay without limiting replies or hiding responses that can be useful to call out fake news. </li></ul>It can take as little as 50 tweets to determine if a certain user on Twitter is a troll or an actual person — a problem that Twitter has been battling since the dawn of the social networking platform. The tech company has been on the warpath to promote ‘conversational health’ with new features like reply-limiting and hiding responses to keep trolls at bay. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="77501716" title="Twitter's new feature lets users limit replies — but this may allow fake news to go unchecked" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> Researcher Sergei Monakov from Germany used the sociolinguistic characteristics of tweets to come up with two algorithms that are accurate enough to tell a troll’s tweets from tweets by US President Donald Trump. Most of the research around detecting trolls thus far has primarily been focused on timing, hashtags, and other characteristics. Very few studies have looked at the tweets themselves. How to find a troll on Twitter Monakhov’s idea is that trolls have a limited number of messages to convey but have to do so multiple times while ensuring there’s adequate diversity of words and topics to fool readers. He used a library of tweets by Russian trolls and genuine tweets from US congress members to show distinctive patterns that emerge from the ones tweeted by trolls. The pairing of words is also different as compared to those in genuine tweets. When Monakhov tested his algorithm using these patterns, he found that only 50 tweets were needed to detect the difference between tweets from people and those from trolls. A new hybrid method to combat trolls online could solve the criticism Twitter is facing on account of its latest features impeding freedom of speech by suppressing unpopular opinions. Nonetheless, it’s going to be a while before this algorithm can be deployed on a large scale. Further research is required to determine whether it can accurately distinguish troll tweets from other types of messages that are not posted by public figures.
