The stealth guided missile destroyer <keyword id="50591" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="mormugao" source="Orion">Mormugao</keyword>, the second of the four 'Visakhapatnam' class destroyers, was commissioned into the Indian <keyword id="42407" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="navy" source="Orion">Navy</keyword> on Sunday. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Mumbai, Defence Minister <keyword id="6355121" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rajnath-singh" source="Orion">Rajnath Singh</keyword> said <keyword id="3659561" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ins-mormugao" source="Orion">INS Mormugao</keyword> is evidence of India's excellence in warship design and development. INS Mormugao is among the most powerful Indigenous warships, Singh said. This is the most technologically advanced warship, he added. Singh said the warship's commissioning will boost India's maritime power. Indian economy is among the top five economies in the world, and according to experts, will be among the top three in 2027, Singh said. The Navy chief said the commissioning of the warship, on the eve of the Goa Liberation Day, is indicative of the large strides taken in warship design and building capability over the last decade. Goa Chief Minister <keyword id="864632" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="pramod-sawant" source="Orion">Pramod Sawant</keyword>, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and Goa governor P S Sreedharan Pillai were present at the ceremony at naval dockyard. INS Mormugao is the second of the four 'Visakhapatnam' class destroyers of 'Project 15B', indigenously designed by the Indian Navy's in-house organisation, Warship Design Bureau and constructed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, Mumbai. Named after the historic port city of Goa, Mormugao coincidentally undertook first sea trial on December 19, 2021, when Goa celebrated 60 years of liberation from the Portuguese rule. INS Mormugao is 163 metres long and 17 metres wide. It has a displacement of 7,400 tonnes and a maximum speed of 30 knots (55 kmph). The warship is packed with sophisticated state of the art weapons and sensors such as surface to surface missile and surface to air missiles. It is fitted with a modern surveillance radar which provides target data to the gunnery weapon systems on board. AdPorts and Special Economic Zone on Thursday reported that its Profit After Tax or net profits during the just-concluded financial year 2023-24 grew by a whopping 50 per cent to Rs 8,104 crore. In 2022-23, they were at Rs 5,391 crore. During the fourth quarter January-March, the net profits grew 77 per cent to Rs 2,015 crore. Coming to the revenue from operations for the entire financial year and the fourth quarter, they grew 28 per cent and 19 per cent to Rs 26,711 crore and Rs 6,897 crore, respectively. 2023-24 has been a year of many new milestones for <keyword id="20038598" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="APSEZ" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="APSEZ" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="APSEZ">APSEZ</keyword> on both operational and financial metrics. <keyword id="20051210" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani-Ports" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Adani Ports" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Adani Ports">Adani Ports</keyword> delivered 3x the India cargo growth rate and a record volume of 420 million tonne. With incremental cargo volumes of 100 million tonne achieved in less than two years, Adani Ports is well poised to achieve 500 million tonne of cargo volumes in 2025, aided by the recently acquired Gopalpur Port, and the scheduled commissioning of Vizhinjam Port in the current year and WCT (West Container Terminal) next year, said Gupta. "We continue to invest heavily in the business to drive growth, particularly in the logistics segment. Our newly launched trucking segment enables APSEZ to provide the last-mile connectivity solution to its customers. Our efforts towards sustainable business growth are well recognized in the top decile ESG rating from four global rating agencies," added Gupta. In 2023-24, APSEZ said it handled 27 per cent of the country's total cargo and 44 per cent of container cargo. Ten of its ports from the India portfolio recorded their lifetime high cargo volumes for the year. For 2023-24, the APSEZ Board has recommended a dividend of Rs 6 per share. This implies a payout of around Rs 1,300 crore for the company. A dividend is a reward that companies often provide to their shareholders, though it is not mandatory, from a portion of their earnings. APSEZ is the largest port developer and operator in India with seven strategically located ports and terminals on the west coast (Mundra, Tuna, Dahej, and Hazira in <keyword id="19906863" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat" source="keywords">Gujarat</keyword>, Mormugao in Goa, Dighi in Maharashtra and Vizhinjam in Kerala) and eight ports and terminals on the East coast of India (Haldia in West Bengal, Dhamra and Gopalpur in Odisha, Gangavaram and Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, Kattupalli and Ennore in Tamil Nadu and Karaikal in Puducherry). Adani Ports' net profits jump 50% in 2023-24, registers threefold cargo growth

First International cruise ship 'Viking Mars' on Wednesday arrived in the coastal state of <keyword id="826" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="goa" source="Orion">Goa</keyword> with around 650 passengers and other crew members. Docked at the international cruise berth of Mormugao Port Authority, the cruise is scheduled to halt for a day in the coastal state. Mormugao BJP MLA <keyword id="183632" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sankalp-amonkar" source="Orion">Sankalp Amonkar</keyword>, after welcoming the tourists in the traditional way, said that the arrival of an international cruise will help the economy of the state. "It will help all stakeholders of the tourist area, not only from my constituency but also from others where these tourists visit," he said. He said that tourism activities had gone standstill due to the COVID pandemic, but now things are improving. "People faced loss during COVID, but now it seems there will be good business as tourists have started to come," he said. <keyword id="3606029" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="amonkar" source="Orion">Amonkar</keyword> said that such international cruises should stay in Goa for a longer duration so the tourists can explore Goa. First International cruise 'Viking Mars' arrives in Goa with 650 passengers onboard

India's major <keyword id="6413000" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ports" source="Orion">ports</keyword> handled the highest ever cargo at 795 million tonne in 2022-23, <keyword id="5791834" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ministry-of-ports" source="Orion">Ministry of Ports</keyword>, Shipping and Waterways Secretary <keyword id="189691" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sudhansh-pant" source="Orion">Sudhansh Pant</keyword> said on Friday. <keyword id="236966" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="pant" source="Orion">Pant</keyword> further said that with transactions worth about Rs 5,000 crore, the <keyword id="6390662" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="shipping-ministry" source="Orion">shipping ministry</keyword> has surpassed its FY23 asset monetisation target of about Rs 3,700 crore. He also said that next week, Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister <keyword id="545729" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sarbananda-sonowal" source="Orion">Sarbananda Sonowal</keyword> will launch 'Green Port' guidelines to make India's ports green. "Our major ports have handled the highest ever cargo in the history of the ports at 795 million metric tonne. This is 10 per cent higher than the previous year's cargo handled," he told PTI. India has 12 major ports - Deendayal (Kandla), Mumbai, Mormugao, New Mangalore, Cochin, Chennai, Ennore (<keyword id="426494" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kamarajar" source="Orion">Kamarajar</keyword>), Tuticorin (V O Chidambaranar), Visakhapatnam, <keyword id="49809" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="paradip" source="Orion">Paradip</keyword> and <keyword id="6354925" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kolkata" source="Orion">Kolkata</keyword> (including Haldia) and Jawaharlal Nehru Port. "Four or five of the major ports, including <keyword id="9340309" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="syama-prasad-mookerjee-port" source="Orion">Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port</keyword> (Kolkata), Deendayal (Kandla), Jawaharlal Nehru Port and Paradip have recorded the highest ever cargo," Pant added. He also pointed out that after many many years, the major ports have recorded a higher annual growth than that of non-major ports. Non-major ports are administered by state governments. Many state governments have given such ports on lease to private partners. "So, this year (2022-23), major ports achieved an overall growth of 10.4 per cent, while non-major ports achieved a growth 1.5 to 2 per cent less than this," he said. While the share of major ports in the total cargo was 54 per cent and non-major ports was 46 per cent in FY22, Pant said in FY23, the share of major ports rose to 55 per cent and that of non-major ports fell to 45 per cent. "So even 1 per cent shift is a very significant achievement for major ports, because despite so many challenges, they have increased their share by 1 per cent ," he said. Pant also said the inland waterways increased their cargo handling by 16 per cent to 126 million tonne in 2022-23 from 109 million tonne in 2021-22. He said the turnaround time in major ports has reduced by 3-4 hours to 48-49 hours. Telecom service providers started providing high-speed 5G services in the country from October 2022 onwards. The government issued spectrum allocation letters to telecom service providers in August 2022, while asking them to prepare for the rollout of 5G services in the country. Department of Telecom had received total bids worth Rs 1.50 lakh crore from the 5G spectrum auction. What is 5G, and how is it different from the current 3G and 4G services? 5G is the fifth-generation mobile network capable of transmitting a large data set at a very rapid speed. In comparison to 3G and 4G, 5G has a very low latency which will enhance user experiences in various sectors. Low latency describes the efficiency to process a very high volume of data messages with a minimal delay. The 5G rollout is also expected to bring more development in remote data monitoring in sectors such as mining, warehousing, telemedicine, and manufacturing, among others. Jio launches high-speed 5G services in 20 more cities

New Delhi, Apr 28 () The government on Tuesday announced a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for dependent members of port employees in case of loss of life due to COVID-19 while discharging duties.The compensation has been announced for any death due to COVID-19 till September 30, 2019 and the situation will be reviewed after that.Declaring the compensation for the port employees/workers in case of loss of life due to COVID, the Ministry of Shipping in a statement said: "All port employees including contractual labourers employed directly by the port and other contractual employees are covered" under it.The statement said the ministry has decided that all the major ports may grant compensation /ex-gratia in the event of loss of life due to COVID-19 to the dependent members/legal heirs of the port employees."Port Chairman is the competent authority for the settling claims/ disbursement of the compensation/ex-gratia and verifying authority for the cause of death from COVID-19," the statement said. This compensation is applicable only for the pandemic and will be in force up to September 30, 2020, subject to review thereafter.India has 12 major ports -- Deendayal (erstwhile Kandla), Mumbai, JNPT, Mormugao, New Mangalore, Cochin, Chennai, Kamarajar (earlier Ennore), V O Chidambaranar, Visakhapatnam, Paradip and Kolkata (including Haldia).
