<br /> It's no longer a dream. Meet this robotic chef Created by UK-based <keyword id="2807604" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Moley-Robotics">Moley Robotics</keyword>, that can whip up professional quality meals in a matter of minutes in an automated kitchen.<br />
<br /> The robot features two fully articulated hands made by the <keyword id="3782647" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="shadow-robot-company">Shadow Robot Company</keyword>, whose products are used in the nuclear industry and by <keyword id="6360409" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="NASA">NASA</keyword>. The dextrous hands are able to faithfully replicate the movements of a human hand, cooking up Michelin-starred delicacies with all the skill and flair of a master chef.<br />
<br /> The best part as pointed out by <keyword id="3782648" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mark-oleynik">Mark Oleynik</keyword>, the founder and CEO of <keyword id="3782645" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="moley">Moley</keyword> Robotics, is that you’ll be able to use the kitchen in either its automatic or traditional setting. The advantage of such an approach is that you can prepare a dish yourself when you feel like it, or a user can record a cooking process so next time when he or she doesn’t feel like cooking, the robot can recreate the same dish.<br />

With crowd funding in progress, Moley is now trying to develop a robot chef that can be easily integrated into people's homes for everyday use.<br />

Moley, a robot chef that cooks delicious meals for humans

Star Trek star <keyword id="238149" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="william-shatner" source="Orion">William Shatner</keyword>, who recently became the oldest man sent to space, will be serving as <keyword id="1863159" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="mission-control" source="Orion">Mission Control</keyword> in the upcoming competition series 'Stars on Mars'.<br /><br />The series will see a group of celebrities prepare for take-off for the red planet, where they will live, eat, sleep, strategise, and bond with each other in the same space station, reports Deadline.<br /><br />During their stay, they will be faced with authentic conditions that simulate life on Mars, and they must use their brains and brawn - or maybe just their stellar social skills - to outlast the competition and claim the title of brightest star in the galaxy. The celebrities will compete in missions and will vote to eliminate one of their crewmates each week, sending them back to Earth.<br /><br />The series will premiere on <keyword id="17242" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="fox" source="Orion">Fox</keyword> from June 5.<br /><br />Stars on Mars is produced by Holey Moley producer Eureka Productions, whose Chris <keyword id="17116664" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="culvenor" source="Orion">Culvenor</keyword> created the format. In it, he discussed a common Wall Street metric usually applied to capital or equity to humans.</p><p>His argument, in short, is that the "return on humans" is declining. </p><p>He said: </p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"Long-term structural decline in rate of "return on humans" due to deep structural changes in relationships between humans; humans &amp; machines; humans, machines &amp; society. The pressure has been intensifying over the last three decades with the peak of 'crescendo' just around the corner."</p><p>The bigger picture here, according to Shvets, is that the global economy is stuck in stagnation. There is, according to Shvets, "no growth; no trade; no return to conventional business and capital market cycles for years to come."</p><p>The heart of the problem, according to Shvets, is a lack of productivity. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Macquarie</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>There are two key drivers of this lack of productivity, according to the note. The first is overleverage and overcapacity in services and merchandising economies, and the second is the decline in the "return on humans" during what it describes as the third industrial revolution.</p><p>The note said (emphasis added):</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"It takes around 50-70 years to start enjoying productivity gains. <strong>However, the 3rd Industrial Revolution is even more disruptive than the first two, as it aims to replace rather than augment humans.</strong> In the middle of Industrial Revolutions, productivity rates tend to decrease; income &amp; wealth inequalities rise; social and geopolitical tensions escalate."</p><p>Sound familiar? The note added:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"Technology is entering the sharp end of the S curve; innovations are multiplying in geometric progression vs. slow take-off in 1980s-00; it is destroying the middle class (i.e. accountants; lawyers; traders; logistics; clerks; pilots; economists; editors; investment advisors) and fissuring labour force (contingent employment). Whilst new jobs are created, these tend to be lower productivity occupations (at least in the first several decades)."</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_left"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Moley Robotics</span></p></div><p></p></div></div>Shvets argues that this is being exacerbated by loose monetary policy, as the flow of easy money is supporting consumption and slowing the closure of excess capacity and unproductive industries. </p><p>This is most clearly happening in China, and Shvets argues that this is now taking place around the world. </p><p>"We have described it as nationalization of capital markets and gross capital formation but in a polite company it might be called a 'mix of proactive fiscal and monetary policies'," the note said. "In other words, state would directly intervene in supporting consumption (such as income guarantees; vouchers); sponsoring investment and assisting with overextended pension and welfare liabilities. All directly funded by Central Banks (no borrowings)."</p><p>That has broad implications for investors. Wall Street's language is now being applied to the human race, and it has scary implications

<p>The Hubble Space Telescope had its sites set on Jupiter earlier this year and snapped this pic of the massive planet's famous Great Red Spot. But instead of a red spot, it saw a frightening pupil-like black hole staring back.</p>
<p>What happened?</p>
<p>Has the Great Red Spot - an ongoing storm that could swallow the entire Earth in a single gulp - disappeared into nothingness?</p>
<p>Has the storm, which was first observed in 1664 and continues strong today, somehow managed to spawn a black hole that will surely grow and devour our solar system whole?</p>
<p>Actually, the real answer is less dramatic, but still fascinating.</p>
<p>This photo is a trick shot that the crafty Hubble Telescope took at just the right moment.</p>
<p>Hubble was observing the Great Red Spot on April 21 of this year when the largest moon in our solar system, Ganymede, was passing across Jupiter. What we're seeing is the Jovian moon's shadow cast onto Jupiter's surface.</p>
<p>If Ganymede's shadow is the pupil, and the Great Red Spot is the white part of the eye, then we're looking at a giant celestial eyeball about 10,000 miles in diameter. That's enough to fit one-and-a-quarter Earths!</p>
<p>This image might not have been possible 200 years ago, even if the technology had been around to see it. That's because <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/r-jupiters-giant-red-spot-shrinking-hubble-images-show-2014-15">reports earlier this year</a>, the Great Red Spot is not as great as it used to be. In fact, according to some historical measurements, it's less than half the size it was during the 19th century.</p>

Hubble Snapped This Picture Of Jupiter With A Creepy 'Hole' In Its Great Red Spot

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Fast food could get even faster - with the help of robots.</p><p>MIT engineering students&#xa0;Kale Rogers, Michael Farid, Braden Knight, and Luke Schlueter invented&#xa0;a fully automated mini-restaurant called Spyce Kitchen. It features&#xa0;a refrigerator, dishwasher, stovetop, and robot&#xa0;chef that can cook and serve meals with fresh ingredients in under five minutes.</p><p>The team won the <a href="http://news.mit.edu/2016/collegiate-inventors-awarded-lemelson-mit-student-prize-0412">$10,000 "Eat it!" Lemelson-MIT undergraduate prize</a>, an award&#xa0;for the nation's top two collegiate inventors in food technology, for the invention, which currently serves students in an MIT dining hall. They plan to&#xa0;pilot the mini-restaurant&#xa0;in dining halls at a handful of other Boston universities once it receives USDA and FDA approval.</p><p>"<span>Our vision is to transform the meaning of fast food,"&#xa0;the team told&#xa0;Tech Insider in an email.</span></p><p><span><div></div></span></p><p>First, you&#xa0;order a meal using a smartphone app or the touch screen next to the machine. The bot currently features five meals: s<span>hrimp andouille jambalaya, chicken-bacon sweet potato hash, winter veggie mac and cheese, chili-lime beef with sesame rice, and chickpea coconut curry on couscous. Two meals can be made at once.</span></p><p>You can customize the ingredients, sauce, and quantity. Then, you grab a bowl from the side and place it under one of the cooking pots.</p><p>Ingredients, which are stocked by the Spyce staff daily, are automatically measured and dispensed on a conveyor belt. They're then transported to one of four automated pots&#xa0;that mix and cook the ingredients all-in-one.</p><p>Once that's done, the system dispenses&#xa0;the meal on a plate, and the pot rotates to the sink and cleans itself.&#xa0;The kitchen&#xa0;uses an array of sensors that track the food's temperature and quality.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>The team believes the Spyce Kitchen could revolutionize the fast food industry since it doesn't rely on any human workers and produces nutritious meals at low prices. It can serve all types of bowls, like stir-fry, rice, pasta, pad thai, quinoa, and curry.</p><p>The device only takes up 20 square feet of space and can produce half the amount of food as the average full-sized fast food restaurant, the students say.</p><p>Last year, UK-based Moley Robotics and Shadow Robot Company <a href="http://www.gizmag.com/robot-chef-automated-kitchen/36990/">unveiled</a> their automated kitchen, which features a pair of robotic arms&#xa0;that can make over 2,000 dishes. MIT students invented a robotic kitchen that could revolutionize fast food

And Snapchat has continued to attract new partners <a href="http://www.vogue.com/13472731/vogue-snapchat-discover/">like Vogue</a>, which made its Discover debut last month.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Discover has also captured the love of Snapchat's users. When Business Insider <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/john-kosner-espn-digital-interview-snapchat-millennials-2016-9">interviewed ESPN's digital boss John </a></span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/john-kosner-espn-digital-interview-snapchat-millennials-2016-9">Kosner last month</a>, he shared that ESPN's Discover channel gets a whopping 18 million unique viewers per month, and 2.3 million per day. That's a huge chunk of viewers. </span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Anecdotally, I recently talked to a 20-year-old who said she got her news exclusively from Snapchat Discover and podcasts, which might be terrifying to hear if you work in more traditional forms of media.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">But when we talk about Snapchat Discover being a success, it's worth pointing out one particular thing: Discover is the tabloid rack of the digital world. </span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">That doesn't mean the production value is poor; in fact, many of the stories are a seamless mashup of GIFs, videos, and text. It's impressive. And it also doesn't mean that Snapchat hasn't signed up some more serious partners: WSJ, Vogue, and so on. </span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Yet still, every time I open the app it feels like I'm waiting in line at the grocery store, perusing the latest and greatest in the world of tabloids. Just glance to the right for a taste. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Moley Robotics</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>The robots in movies and science fiction books that rise up to take over the world generally are able to do so because we have placed them in charge of missiles, defense systems, and other military technology.</p><p>We never see a disgruntled, order-taking bot working at <span>McDonald's </span>or <span>Domino's</span> cast off its virtual hairnet to gain sentience and overthrow its fast-food overlord.</p><p>But fast food, along with shipping warehouses, has become a hotbed for robots and other automated technology.</p><p>McDonald's has been testing ordering kiosks, Domino's has numerous ways to place an order that do not involve talking with a human being, and <span>Starbucks</span> has used technology to shift employees away from order taking to put them into production. It may not be a fantastic utopia where Rosie from <em>The Jetsons </em>does our laundry, but robot/automated technology has clearly infiltrated fast food.</p><h2>Are robot fast-food workers coming?</h2><p>It's not a question of whether automation will come; it's one of whether it will make stores more efficient or allow them to get rid of human workers. Starbucks, for example, has used automation to allow it to move workers into making drinks rather than taking orders, but it has not yet cut its workforce in any meaningful way.</p><p><a href="https://www.collegerecruiter.com/about" target="_blank">CollegeRecruiter.com</a>'s Steven Rothberg, whose company works to find jobs for students and college graduates, believes that fast-food robots are coming, but he does not think they will supplant traditional workers.</p><p>"Many of the students and some of the recent grads who use our site are employed by fast food restaurants," he said to <a href="http://www.fool.com/" target="_blank">The Motley Fool</a> in an email. "There's no doubt that automation will continue to impact the number and types of jobs in fast food restaurants but I don't buy the argument that digital ordering, kiosks, tablets, and other methods will replace human workers in fast food restaurants. Just look at banks. Have ATM's reduced the need for human tellers? Absolutely. But have ATM's come close to eliminating the need for human tellers? Absolutely not."<span></span></p><p>Timothy Carone a teaching professor in the Department of IT, Analytics, and Operations at the University of Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business, believes that automation will happen in restaurants, but not quickly or necessarily to the detriment of flesh-and-blood workers. The professor, who wrote the forthcoming book <em>Future Automation -- Changes to Lives and to Businesses</em>, does believe that the path toward robot workers (or at least automated workflow) will be a slow one.</p><p>"Automated services in restaurants has started and will continue for many years even while many restaurants maintain their level of manual service," he wrote in an email to The Motley Fool. "Some fast food companies will be all-in and others are taking a wait-and-see attitude. It will take years for fast food franchises to recognize a return on their automation investment though at some point an automated operation will be much cheaper than a manual operation."</p><p>Carone said that the idea that restaurants are automating due to labor costs is only partially true.</p><p>"Automation would occur at much lower labor costs than exist today or in the future but automation costs money," he said, noting that the expense will lower over time. "Whether a restaurant becomes partially or fully automated should depend on its customers and locations. Fast-food franchises located anywhere are finding its customers value automation. Restaurants at airports or similar locations that provide a captive audience but no loyalty except for brand loyalty will find automation necessary and valued by customers -- faster is better."</p><h2>It's already happening</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>REUTERS/Sheng Li </span></p><p class="caption">A robot delivers a dish to customers at a Robot Restaurant in the Heilongjiang province, China.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Donald Mazzela, a board member of the non-profit <a href="http://www.the-nref.org/" target="_blank">National Robotics Education Foundation</a>, said his group has been looking at the issue of robots in restaurants for three years, noting that robotic interaction is being taught in culinary and hospitality courses throughout the world.</p><p>"In our latest study, we estimate average fast food establishment will switch 1.2 workers from counter service to other tasks as remote order taking, delivery by robotic applications grow," he wrote.</p><p>He expects the tipping point will be by 2020 and pointed out that ATMs have lessened the needed for bank tellers. The industry, he explained, needs time to educate customers, but that will happen, he said, because the benefits are simply too strong. He cited machines counting change, sensors, and other tools making inventory more precise and the ability to relay orders directly to the prep area as a way to decrease waste.</p><p>It's going to be a gradual change, but it's going to happen, Mazzela wrote.</p><p>A change is coming and Fred Goff, CEO of <a href="https://www.jobcase.com/" target="_blank">Jobcase</a>, a social media platform helping workers without college degrees find meaningful jobs, believes workers should embrace it. He told The Motley Fool that robots will perform some jobs typically done by humans, but that will also create opportunity for flesh-and-blood workers.</p><p>"Concerns about technology displacing jobs has been a constant Luddite theme throughout the Information Revolution, and in fact since the Industrial Revolution," he wrote. Goff explained in his email that in a broad sense technology tends to create more opportunity than it displaces.</p><p>"It is not to be feared, but it must be managed," he wrote. "The challenge -- and opportunity -- for workers is for people to take control of their own work-life and navigate the positive impacts (easier access to education/training, new job creation, etc.) so that they aren't overwhelmed by the negative impacts of technological progress. Keep open to change and keep moving forward."</p><h2>What does this mean for business?</h2><p>Robots or automated workers come with benefits -- they don't show up late, don't steal, and never ask for raises -- but they also have a downside. So far, companies like Starbucks have balanced automating with maintaining a human touch. A robot/app may take your order, but a person makes it and hands it to you.</p><p>As that balance is lost and human interaction disappears, chains need to be worried about losing a personal connection with their customers, which could remove a reason people come back.
