<ul><li>Indian short video apps are fighting tooth-and-nail to fill the void that TikTok has left behind since it got banned in India. </li><li>The top free apps in the Google Play Store are dominated by the likes of ShareChat's Moj, <keyword id="2368386" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Roposo">Roposo</keyword> and Trell. </li><li>Business Insider reviewed all three to weigh the pros and cons of the new short video platforms.</li></ul>Ever since TikTok was banned in India, people are rushing to local alternatives to fuel their need for short videos. In the Google Play Store, Indian apps are currently battling it out for the top spot. The only catch is they’re not exactly at the same level as TikTok when it comes to functionality and user interface. <br /><br /><div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="76696132" title="List of 59 Chinese apps banned in India by Indian government" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div><br />The likes of ShareChat's Moj, Roposo and Trell among the top five free apps on the Google Play Store. Likee Lite also makes an appearance, even though its parent app — Likee — was among the 59 apps banned in India. <br /><br />  <div type="image" title="googleplaystore" msid="76869510" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Top five free apps in the Google Play Store right now&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br /><strong>Review of ShareChat’s Moj short video app<br /></strong>ShareChat’s Moj is currently ahead of the rest and it even has a 3.9 star rating on the Google Play Store. It made its debut on June 29 and amassed 10 million downloads within a week.<br /><br />Due to security measures, Moj doesn’t allow users to take screenshots. However, in our review of the app, the pixels in the top right corner seem out of order for every single video. <br /><br /><div type="image" title="moj" msid="76869469" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The top right corner of Moj app is stretching pixels&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />It also auto-pulled the one-time-password (OTP) without getting clearance from the user for access. Using your phone number is the only way to sign up. However, you can use the app to view content without logging in at all. Unlike TikTok, Moj also doesn’t allow for editing, music tracks or adding special effects to videos.<br /><br />Users report being unable to sign in or post videos from time-to-time. Many comment that there’s a dire need for more features like being able to post comments, create a user profile, save videos to your own gallery — and just make it more user friendly, overall. <br /><br />  <div type="image" title="Moj review" msid="76869525" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Reviews of Moj since its launch&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />Developers do plan to introduce new features such as video editing, filters, stickers and ‘magical’ emoticons for selfies in the near future.<br /><br /><strong>Review of Roposo short video app<br /></strong>Akin to Mojo, Roposo also auto-pulls the OTP without getting clearance from the user for access. On the plus side, the user interface is clean. When uploading videos, the app allows you to edit videos within the platform and even add filters and effects, much like TikTok. It also allows users to collaborate with other user’s videos. <br /><br />  <div type="image" title="roposo" msid="76869576" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Roposo includes TikTok-like filters and effects&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />Roposo has over 50 million downloads. Once it finally opens the interface is very user friendly and it allows you to sign up using your phone number, Facebook, Google ID or WhatsApp.<br /><br />As compared to the other two apps, the explore interface is much better. You can switch between tabs — like Travel, Reaction Videos, Food and others — to choose the kind of content you want to see.<br /><br />  <div type="image" title="trell" msid="76869762" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;&amp;lt;sup&amp;gt;&amp;lt;/sup&amp;gt;Trell interface is user friendly&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />When uploading a video you can choose from pre-recorded clips on your device or shoot something new. From Instagram to YouTube and Facebook, the explosion is no secret and it’s very likely to grow even more in coming years. Popularised by TikTok, the short form videos gave birth to many similar platforms and even got added as a feature on almost every popular social media app, in fact, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/apps/news/instagram-on-its-way-to-becoming-a-video-and-entertainment-platform-adam-mosseri/articleshow/84017343.cms">Instagram is on its way to becoming a video and entertainment platform</a> with Reels - its version of short video - in focus.<br /><br />The biggest players including Google and Facebook are banking on short form videos in India. The market is predicted to grow to 650 million users by 2025, according to a new report by Bain &amp; Company.<br /><br />In the report titled “India Online Videos - The Long and Short of It”, Bain &amp; Company analysed the growth of short form videos in India, who are the key players and what does the future look like. Short form videos or SFV are categorised as videos with a duration of 15 seconds to 2 minutes.<br /><br />It’s safe to say that the pandemic has increased content consumption and SFV is one of the most successful byproducts of it. In India, the SFV user base grew 3.5 times and 12 times in total time spent by all users over the past two years. In 2020 alone, more than 200 million Indians watched SFVs at least once. And active users spent up to 45 minutes a day only on SFV platforms. There was a 60% increase in consumption of SFV during the lockdown period (April-June) as compared to January-March the same year. At present, there are more than 200 million SFV users in India. <br /><br />India’s SFV user base has mostly been men (70%-75%) from tier 2 cities and smaller towns while women take up 25%-30%. Bain also highlighted that other than having a large engaged user base these companies are also well-funded. ShareChat’s Moj for example has raised $1,203 million in funding and its key investors are China’s Tencent, Twitter, Tiger, Temasek and Snap. It has over 150 million downloads, 10-15 million creators, 17 minutes of average daily usage. Tencent is a key investor for MX TakaTak as well along with Times Group. This app has over 200 million downloads with 9-12 million creators and 17 average daily minutes. <br /><br />Dailyhunt’s Josh and Glance’s Roposo have over 150 million and 100 million downloads, respectively, and investors like Google, Microsoft and InMobi. An interesting player here is Xiaomi’s Zili that comes pre-installed on Xiaomi smartphones. This group of creators with followers between 10,000 and 100,000, take up 75% to 80% of the total creator base in SFV platforms. Creators are also not engaged in only one platform but have their presence on multiple platforms.<br /><br />Recently, Instagram <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/instagram-launches-education-programme-for-creators-in-india-to-learn-earn-and-build-communities/articleshow/86642903.cms">announced</a> its largest creator education and enablement programme in India. The programme will be free for all, and it will provide access to live masterclasses from experts in the field, the latest product updates and trends, and options to unlock monetary opportunities. <br /><br />There are at least three SFV apps installed per user with one go-to app for most content. Over 100 videos are scrolled by a user and out of which 1 in 3 videos are watched in full. The average user spends 4-5 minutes per visit which is 4-5 visits a day. With cheap internet data, easy-to-use platforms and vernacular language, the SFV market is only set to boost in India. Bain &amp; Company predicts that by 2025 three in four internet users or 600 million to 650 million Indians will consume such videos with an average user spending 55 to 60 minutes per day on these platforms. The total time spent on short videos is also predicted to reach 80-90 billion hours from 12 billion hours. <br /><br />Despite a booming market, Bain &amp; Company says the SFV market in India is still in a nascent stage. Highlighting five major trends curated content and social-led engagement, monetisation, innovations to onboard the next wave of users, emergence of a robust creator ecosystem, and niche platforms within larger SFV ecosystems.<br /><br />India is also expected to follow the footsteps of one of the top SFV markets - China or the US. China has two top SFV players - Douyin and Kuaishou, and multiple small platforms. I got the Feather Gold colour variant, which was too flashy for my liking, and I used it with a case on. The Feather Gold variant features a shiny back that has shades of gold, pink and blue colours. Thanks to the shiny plastic back, the device is smudge-free.<br /><br />The device has volume rockers and a power button on the right side, doubling as a fingerprint sensor. As it is a budget device, there is a lot of bloatware on the device, even higher than what is usually found on Realme smartphones.<br /><br />The device has dynamic ads throughout the UI and has many preinstalled apps, including Moj, IIFL, Paytm, Snapchat, Spotify, and more. It also comes with folders such as “Hot Apps” and “Hot Games” which cannot be removed.<br /><br />The UNISOC T612 powers the Narzo N53 with up to 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. We found the device can handle day-to-day tasks, but there are occasional stutters while launching applications.<br /><br />If you are a gamer and play many games, there may be better devices than the Narzo N53. I played Call of Duty: Mobile on the device and found that the device struggled to handle the game, and there were a lot of stutters.<br /><br />A 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging support powers the device. The device easily offers over a day of battery life. With light gaming, streaming, and browsing, the device lasted a day with around 25% of the battery remaining. The high peak brightness ensures good visibility, even in direct sunlight. The device will receive three years of Android updates and four years of security updates.<br /><br />Those familiar with ColorOS will know that it is a highly customizable version of Android. It adds a lot of features and allows you to customise the device as per your preference.<br /><br />You may expect the device to be bloatware-free after paying a premium price but the Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ disappoints in this aspect. The device also has the “Hot Apps” and “Hot Games” folders, which are again filled with recommended applications for you to install.<br /><br />Coming to the performance, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ is equipped with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset coupled with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.<br /><br />The powerful chipset, coupled with ample RAM and storage allows the device to easily multitask. I tried popular titles such as Battlegrounds Mobile India and Call of Duty: Mobile on the smartphone. The device offers a good gaming experience, even with Full HD graphics and I did not notice any stuttering or lags.<br /><br />It is powered by a 4,700mAh battery coupled with 100W fast charging support. The company has claimed that the device can be fully charged in 27 minutes, allowing you to quickly power up the smartphone. The company had announced it touched 40 million shipments of its number series which includes smartphones from the Realme 1 till the Realme 8. It also comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage that is priced at ₹15,999. The smartphone can be purchased from Realme’s official website and Flipkart.<br /><br />The Realme 9i sits in a competitive category and price segment and it has good competition from rivals including the recently launched Redmi Note 11.<br /><br /><strong>Design, form factor<br /></strong><br />The Realme 9i has a stylish design and it’s quite a good looking phone. It comes in two colour options of Prism Blue and Prism Black. The smartphone has a flashy back with a “prism” effect. Those who want a design that stands out can go for the Prism Blue variant while others can opt for the Prism Black variant which offers a more subtle look.<br /><div type="image" title="nft (85)" msid="89659195" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Realme 9i features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />You also get a tall and slim form factor with the Realme 9i. It’s very light and comfortable to hold but it’s not very one-handed friendly. The volume buttons are thin and located on the left side and the power button on the right side. The power button also doubles as the fingerprint sensor. At the bottom, the 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port and speaker grille are located. <br /><br /><strong>Display</strong><br /><br />The Realme 9i has a big display which is a 6.6-inch FHD+ screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 180Hz touch sampling rate. The display is great with adequate brightness and rich colours and you can switch between vivid and gentle mode. Even in bright sunlight outdoors, you can comfortably see what’s on the screen with brightness set to the highest. With the Realme 9i, you can get good daylight shots and portrait shots. You get very good detail in photos with the 50-megapixel camera which you have to turn on in the camera app. Otherwise, the phone captures 12.5-megapixel photos.<br /><div type="image" title="realme lead image (8)" msid="89659235" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Realme 9i has a triple rear camera setup with a 50-megapixel primary sensor.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />When it comes to low-light photography, the Realme 9i doesn’t quite deliver. The images come out blurry even with night mode turned on. Macro shots also turned out decent with this phone. There’s no ultra wide-angle lens though so that’s one thing you would miss out on. The Realme 9i supports up to 30fps video recording which is good enough to get stationary videos and without much movement otherwise, the videos turn out quite shaky.<br /><div type="image" title="realme lead image (10)" msid="89659252" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Realme 9i low-light camera sample.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />For selfies, you get a 16-megapixel front camera on the Realme 9i. You can get good selfies with this phone but there’s this lightning effect that is visible even with no artificial effects turned on. You can clearly see that the selfies don’t have that natural look but those who prefer some “natural” beautification won’t mind this. <br /><br /><strong>Performance, battery life<br /></strong><br />The Realme 9i is a good performer when it comes to regular usage, gaming and entertainment. Our experience using the phone was very smooth with no lags or hiccups. We tried out Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) and Asphalt 9 on the smartphone. BGMI was smooth with graphics set at ‘Smooth High’ and there were no issues while playing the game. Asphalt 9 was also smooth but the phone doesn’t support high-quality graphics which can affect the overall experience. <br /><br />Watching videos and streaming shows, movies on this phone is great. It has a tall display so the phone makes a great choice for entertainment. You also get dual stereo speakers so the audio can get pretty loud. Even after hours of streaming and a little bit of gaming, the phone has enough juice to last an entire day and more. The Realme 9i also supports 33W fast charging which can get you from 0 per cent to 100 per cent in an hour and 10 minutes.<br /><div type="image" title="realme lead image (4)" msid="89659281" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The smartphone runs on realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />The phone ships with realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11. The UI is familiar with the off-white background, app drawer and a whole bunch of Google apps. It also comes with pre-installed third-party apps such as Spotify, Snapchat, Prime Video, PhonePe and Moj. We personally don’t find the UI very cluttered like One UI as there isn’t much unnecessary poking while setting up the phone and using it. <br /><br />The side-mounted fingerprint sensor was quite a nuisance though. It’s probably the technology in general but the experience of the phone gets unlocked almost every time you press the fingerprint sensor was quite annoying. You can opt for a firm or light touch but neither one offers a convenient experience. There are other options though such as face unlock and PIN or pattern for unlocking the phone.<br /><br /><strong>Verdict <br /></strong><br />The Realme 9i is a value for money smartphone as it ticks all the right boxes and delivers an almost-perfect performance for the price. You get a really good display, good cameras, fast performance, and strong battery life with the Realme 9i compared to the competitors in the segment. Even in comparison with its rivals like the Redmi Note 11, there’s very little that the phone lacks. The device’s primary rival, the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ on the other hand offers an AMOLED display.<br /><br />While the TFT display is not as bright or energy efficient as an AMOLED display, it offers vivid colors and offers excellent color reproduction. We found the device performs well in day-to-day tasks but there are occasional stutters while launching an app or performing heavy tasks.<br /><br />The device performed well while playing games such as Battlegrounds Mobile India or Call of Duty Mobile. While the device performed well, we did notice the occasional lag.<br /><br />Coming to the battery, the device is powered by a huge 6,000mAh battery and offers 25W charging support. Samsung Galaxy M33 5G review – dependable device with an all-day battery

Continuing the same trend, the company has launched the Realme 8i and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/mobile/news/realme-8s-5g-smartphone-hands-on-overview-price-design-and-everything-you-need-to-know/slidelist/86063930.cms">Realme 8s 5G</a> smartphones in India recently. The 8i is the most affordable device from the Realme 8-series.<br /><br />The Realme 8i is the successor to the Realme 7i that launched last September. In comparison to its predecessor, the new 8i has come with some upgrades while doing away with one camera sensor. It competes with the Redmi 10 Prime, which was also launched recently in the country. Unsurprisingly, the Realme 8i packs respectable hardware for its price, and combined with features like 5000mAh battery and 120Hz refresh rate, it might just fit the bill for budget gamers. Let’s find out if it does, or not.<br /><br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Pricing" comment="subhead" text="Pricing"><span data-til="noop">Pricing</span></cmsannotation><br />The <keyword id="11278754" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="realme-8i-review" source="Orion">Realme 8i review</keyword> unit I am using is the 6GB+128GB variant in Space Purple colour, which will cost you ₹15,999. The base model of 4GB+64GB carries a price tag of ₹13,999. The other colour variant is Space Black.<br /><br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Design" comment="subhead" text="Design"><span data-til="noop">Design</span></cmsannotation><br />The phone has a polycarbonate back with a glossy finish and a single-tone flowing design that is glossy and reflective. Its camera bump is placed at the top left of the back and it houses a triple camera set-up with an LED flashlight. Due to its glossy finish, the back is prone to catching fingerprints and smudges, so it’s advised to use a cover with the phone if you wish to keep it tidy for long. The phone comes with a transparent silicon case and which should come in handy to keep it safe without compromising on the looks. However, these covers tend to get yellowish after a few months of usage, so that might be a recurring expense.<br /><br />On the front, there is a 6.6-inch display that houses the punch hole type selfie camera. The phone has relatively thin bezels on three sides except the chin. The power button is at a comfortable position on the right side of the phone and it also features the side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which I found to be quite fast from the first touch.<br />              The phone weighs 194g and is 8.5mm thick and is comfortable to hold. Still, nothing changes in the camera bump except the loss of the ultra-wide sensor which did not see great reviews in its previous iteration.<br /><br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Display" comment="subhead" text="Display"><span data-til="noop">Display</span></cmsannotation><br />Interestingly, the 6.6-inch FHD+ display on the Realme 8i comes with a 120Hz refresh rate, and can also be set to standard 60Hz to save battery. But I found the Auto-select option to be the best as it offers optimum performance and varies refresh rate according to the requirement of the app. Its predecessor, Realme 7i’s display had up to 90Hz refresh rate and supported 720p resolution.<br />                                              <div type="image" title="Realme 8i" msid="86100137" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The 120Hz refresh rate offers a smooth experience.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />The Realme 8i display supports 2412x1080p resolution and has a screen to body ratio of 90.8%. It has a touch sampling rate of 180Hz, which feels exceptional given its low price. It offers a peak brightness of 600 nits. Even though most of my usage has been indoors, I didn’t find any problems while browsing the phone outdoors with auto brightness turned on.<br /><br />With Realme’s UI, the display feels buttery smooth, and both the media viewing and gaming experience have been impressive.<br /><br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Performance" comment="subhead" text="Performance"><span data-til="noop">Performance</span></cmsannotation><br />Realme is using the MediaTek Helio G96 chipset that supports the 120Hz refresh rate and gives power-efficient performance. In terms of everyday performance, I found the chipset to do a good job handling most tasks, be it the opening time of apps, gaming or streaming videos on OTT platforms. This is subject to change as the device gets older. This is one of the trade-offs that you need to make to save money. In my opinion. It shouldn’t be a concern unless you’re keen to use the phone till 5G rolls out in India.<br /><br />With 6GB and 128GB storage, the phone performs quite consistently across applications. I didn’t notice any lag while loading apps or switching between them.<br /><br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Gaming" comment="subhead" text="Gaming"><span data-til="noop">Gaming</span></cmsannotation><br />Quite surprisingly, Realme offers good gaming performance. I tried graphically demanding games like Call of Duty: Mobile, Real Racing 3 and Asphalt 9 and was quite impressed by the experience. Gaming affected the battery life more than any other application, but that’s common on all devices.<br /><br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Battery" comment="subhead" text="Battery"><span data-til="noop">Battery</span></cmsannotation><br />The massive 5,000mAh was a revelation as it packs hours of screen time. I got about 10 hours of screen time with mixed usage that included browsing on Google Chrome, streaming on Amazon Prime and YouTube, and light gaming. It should take you through the day on a single charge with basic usage. Even though I am yet to test it, the phone features a Super Power-Saver mode that claims to provide hours of usage even after dropping down to 5% battery.<br />                                                              <div type="image" title="Battery Performance" msid="86100013" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;We got about 10 hours of battery life after the first full charge.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>The charging disappointed me, a 30W fast-charger would be a suitable fit for this massive battery, but Realme ships an 18W charger that takes almost two hours to charge from under 10% to 100%.<br /><br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Camera" comment="subhead" text="Camera"><span data-til="noop">Camera</span></cmsannotation><br />The Realme 8i has done away with the ultra-wide sensor that was present in its predecessor, the 7i. It features a triple-camera set-up with a 50MP AI primary sensor. The other two lenses are — the 2MP macro lens and the 2MP B/W lens. An interesting feature in the camera is a dual-view video mode that can record a video with both front and rear cameras with a vertical divider. The images that I clicked with a high contrast background turned out good-looking. The result was just about good in indoor lighting as I saw some inconsistency and there’s visible noise in darker areas.<br />                                                                  <div type="image" title="Daylight Image" msid="86099860" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Another decent image captured under natural lights.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>In low-light, I clicked images in both night mode and regular mode and the results were better with night mode on, as expected. The spots on the face are blurred to make it look cleaner.<br /><br />The camera app is responsive and it lets you choose between five shooting modes - night, video, photo, portrait and 50M - simply by swiping left or right. For other modes, you will have to select more options to find camera modes like slow-mo, timelapse, dual-view and film for videos and ultra-macro, panorama and Pro mode for images.<br />                                                                <div type="image" title="Night Mode Image" msid="86099998" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;This image was captured in night mode.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>It can also record videos in 1080p and 720p resolutions. In film mode, you can adjust the auto-focus and ISO manually. The videos that I captured using the video mode at 1080p reproduced the original colours in daylight but at night the output came out noisy.<br /><br />Overall, it’s a decent camera for its price segment. It doesn't click amazing pictures, but under natural lighting, it delivers usable results. So, it’s safe to say it’s not a camera centric device, but it justifies the price.<br /><br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Software" comment="subhead" text="Software"><span data-til="noop">Software</span></cmsannotation><br />It features Realme UI 2.0 running on Android 11 out of the box. The UI is clean with plenty of customizable options, such as the shape of the icons, in-built wallpapers, dark mode, and eye comfort mode for reading. The phone comes with pre-installed apps that include Amazon, Daily Hunt, Josh, Moj, Snapchat and others. There are a lot of bloatware apps, but most of them can be uninstalled except for some of Realme’s own apps like the Calculator, Compass, Clone Phone, HeyTap Cloud and others.<br /><br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Verdict" comment="subhead" text="Verdict"><span data-til="noop">Verdict</span></cmsannotation><br />If you want an affordable smartphone with a high refresh rate display and versatile performance, the Realme 8i would be a great choice at ₹13,999, but note that the camera isn’t its most attractive feature. It’s an exceptional device for daily usage as you have plenty of hours on the battery. If only the charging time could be reduced, this would be a clear winner in the under ₹15,000 category. For people who stay on the go and want the fast charging option, I wouldn’t recommend the Realme 8i. Realme 8i Review: Treat for gamers on a budget

The company has now added another name to its GT series — <keyword id="12262077" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="realme-gt-neo-2-5g" source="Orion">Realme GT Neo 2 5G</keyword>. This mid-range device is touted as the flagship killer for its performance at a lower price.<br /><br />The smartphone is powered by one of Qualcomm’s most efficient chipsets, Snapdragon 870. In India, it adds to Realme's GT series that includes the recently launched <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/mobile/news/realme-gt-5g-mobile-phone-review/articleshow/85478447.cms">Realme GT 5G</a> and Realme GT Master Edition. <br /><br />In this review, we will see what the device has to offer in terms of design, display, performance, battery life and does it make for an alluring option for its price. The review unit we received is the 12GB/256GB variant in Neo Black colour.<br /><br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Design" comment="subhead" text="Design"><span data-til="noop">Design</span></cmsannotation><br />The phone features a polycarbonate back with a smooth matte finish. It reflects dual shades when light falls on it. The back is claimed to be scratch resistant and which seems true as of writing this review, but it does catch fingerprints easily. Even though the body is plastic, it looks quite premium and feels exquisite to touch. <br />            <div type="image" title="Back (1)" msid="86997219" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The back of the phone looks premium. &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>The camera bump with triple sensors is accommodated at the top left side of the back and a Realme branding in silver colour is placed below it.<br /><br />In the front, it houses a selfie camera in a punch-hole cut out at the top left side of the screen and at the bottom centre, we have the in-display fingerprint scanner, which wasn’t as responsive as it should be in 2021. In the box, you also get an opaque back cover that can help prevent damage from falls and catching fingerprints on the back.<br /><br />Overall, the body feels bulky, having recently finished using the Samsung Galaxy M52 5G, but the weight of the phone is balanced and single-handed usage is possible. One drawback of the design is the lack of additional storage option as it doesn’t support MicroSD cards in the SIM tray or elsewhere. It doesn’t feature the 3.5mm audio jack, but that is for most phones in this price segment.<br /><br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Display" comment="subhead" text="Display"><span data-til="noop">Display</span></cmsannotation><br />It has a 6.62-inch AMOLED display with a screen-to-body ratio of 92.6%. The display has relatively thin bezels except for the chin.<br /><br />It offers a high 120Hz refresh rate which makes the scrolling and gaming experience smooth. The refresh rate can be lowered down to the standard 60Hz or adaptive refresh rate that automatically selects the best refresh rate for a particular application. <br />        <div type="image" title="Main Image" msid="86997487" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The display supports up to 120Hz refresh rate. &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>Using the phone under sunlight is not a hassle as it offers 1300 nits of peak brightness and it shows. The phone comes with HDR10+ support for videos and offers finer picture quality with high contrast and better details. Although it’s very hard to tell the difference if you have used recent flagship phones, it is noticeable if you switch from a phone with a lower touch sampling rate.<br /><br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Performance" comment="subhead" text="Performance"><span data-til="noop">Performance</span></cmsannotation><br />The GT Neo 2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC, which is the same as found on its competitors Xiaomi Mi 11X and iQOO 7 while the Samsung Galaxy M52 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G. The phone offers 5G support that makes it ready to be used when 5G rolls out in India. <br /><br />The performance is consistent across various applications and the system. I did not notice any lags while switching between applications or loading them. As I mentioned in the design, the fingerprint sensor is not at par with today’s standards in terms of speed and accuracy. We hope this would be fixed soon via OTA update. <br /><br />The GT Neo 2 comes with a thermal management system that is supposed to improve heat dissipation and lower the heating from resource-intensive applications. However, I did notice slight heating after 45 minutes to an hour of gaming. <br /><br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Gaming" comment="subhead" text="Gaming"><span data-til="noop">Gaming</span></cmsannotation><br />The phone can handle heavy games like Asphalt 9 and Playgrounds Mobile India effortlessly even at the highest graphic settings. Its vivid display with a high-performance chipset makes gaming an enjoyable experience. <br />      <div type="image" title="Gaming" msid="86997584" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The phone could handle heavy games like Asphalt 9 effortlessly.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>It has a GT mode for g that is supposed to enhance the gaming performance by boosting the CPU performance, setting the refresh rate to maximum and increasing the touch sampling rate, but we did not notice noticeable improvements while gaming.<br /><br />The heating can be an issue if you like to play for long hours. For others, the overall gaming experience was very fluid and can be easily recommended. <br /><br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Battery" comment="subhead" text="Battery"><span data-til="noop">Battery</span></cmsannotation><br />It features a 5,000mAh battery, which is the same as that found in Samsung Galaxy M52 and larger than its other competitors. The screen on time isn’t as much as I could get on the Galaxy M52. Here, I get about 6-7 hours of screen time with mixed usage that includes gaming and watching video content. <br /><br />But to compensate for a mediocre battery life it offers charging speeds that are quite commendable with its 65W SuperDart charger. Realme claims to fully charge the phone in 36 minutes and when I tested it, it went from 5% to 100% in exactly 42minutes, which is quite impressive. Realme always bags an extra point for its charging technology, and it’s actually a useful addition for any user.<br /><br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Camera" comment="subhead" text="Camera"><span data-til="noop">Camera</span></cmsannotation><br />The phone comes with a triple-camera set-up at the back with a 64MP primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. The other two sensors include an 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP macro lens. In the daylight, the photos look very sharp and the colours have depth in them. They have a high dynamic range, especially when the photos are clicked with objects having high contrast. The white-balance is good in outdoor lighting, but the exposure may be inconsistent at times especially when you try to click a moving object.<br />    <div type="image" title="Main Camera Image" msid="86997693" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Another image taken with the primary sensor in photo mode. &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>Images clicked using the ultra-wide lens in daylight look decent until you zoom in when it starts to appear grainy. Pictures clicked using the macro mode are out of focus. When I tried clicking images of a flower from a close range in the macro hoping to get a clear close up of the petal, the results came out blurry even after giving it multiple tries. <br />  <div type="image" title="Wide Angle" msid="86997732" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Image taken using ultra-wide lens.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>At night, the performance of the camera diminishes significantly, especially in areas with fewer light sources. However, with Night mode you could capture some more light and colours. But the images still remained blurry.<br />  <div type="image" title="Bokeh Mode" msid="86997758" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Image in Boken mode with blurry background.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>In terms of video, the rear cameras allow you to capture videos in 4K, 1080p and 720p at both 60fps and 30fps. The videos that I took appear highly saturated and the phone could also pick the audio with great clarity. However, the phone does not come with optical image stabilisation and it may capture shaky footage or you have to hold your phone steadily.<br /><br />As for the modes, you can click images with the normal photo mode, Bokeh mode, 64-megapixel for clicking high-resolution images, starry mode, pro-mode, panorama, ultra macro and street mode. The videos can be recorded in the normal video mode, slo-mo, movie mode for experts and a dual video mode that captures footage using both the front and back camera. <br />  <div type="image" title="Front Camera (4)" msid="86997800" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;16MP selfie camera.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>As for the performance of the front camera, the pictures I clicked did have some artificial enhancement, but the colour reproduction is close to natural and it did not make me look fairer or darker. <br /><br />You can shoot videos using the front camera in both 1080p and 720p resolutions. The front camera can also be used in the night mode and the portrait mode.<br /> <br />The camera app was very responsive and the loading time was very less. I did not face any hiccups while switching the camera or swapping between various modes.<br /><br />The camera performance is good enough for anyone who likes to take occasional photos and can work with something that clicks social media worthy pictures. Unlike some of its features, it is far from what flagship devices from Samsung, Apple or even OnePlus have to offer.<br /><br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Software" comment="subhead" text="Software"><span data-til="noop">Software</span></cmsannotation><br />It comes with Realme UI version 2.0 running on Android 11. The UI looks clean with plenty of options to customise your display, such as changing the layout, wallpapers, icons and more.<br /><br />It allows you to switch to eye-comfort mode to prevent the straining of eyes while reading. Along with it, you can also operate your phone in dark mode. There is an option to enhance the colour of videos and sharpen the images by switching on the O1 Ultra Vision Engine. <br /><br />It also comes with plenty of bloatware applications such as Moj, Daily Hunt, Josh, Soloop and others. It has plenty of apps pre-installed including Amazon, Prime Videos, Amazon Music. However, you can delete most of the unwanted apps except for the systems applications such as clock, calculator, compass, HeyTap Cloud and others. <br /><br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Verdict" comment="subhead" text="Verdict"><span data-til="noop">Verdict</span></cmsannotation><br />The Realme GT Neo 2 provides excellent performance at the cost of low battery life. But it compensates for that with a fast charger. The camera is just mediocre, but the display is highly responsive and works well for most use cases.<br /><br />When compared to its competitors, it offers similar specifications and features at a slightly higher price. The 6GB RAM variant is priced at ₹29,999 while the 8GB RAM variant will retail at ₹31,999. The phones are available in two colours — Icy Blue and Blazing Black. <br /><br />The unit we are reviewing is in Blazing Black colour variant and is equipped with 8GB RAM+128GB storage. <br /><br />Samsung is also offering introductory prices of ₹26999 for the 6GB+128GB variant and ₹28999 for the 8GB+128GB during the Amazon Great Indian Festival. However, this offer is for a limited period only. So if you are looking to bring home the Galaxy M52 5G, take advantage of the deal.<br /><br /><strong><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Design" comment="subhead" text="Design"><span data-til="noop">Design</span></cmsannotation></strong><br />The phone features a polycarbonate body, with a glossy finish. On its black back, it has a striped design featuring silver vertical stripes. Even though the back and sides are made of plastic, the phone still feels very premium to hold. While it claims to be the “leanest” Samsung M-series phone, with its slim profile and a thickness of just 7.4mm, it isn’t the leanest device as Mi 11X lite is only 6.81mm thick. It feels lightweight in the hands weighing just 173g, however, the Mi 11X Lite only weighs 159g.<br /><br />The rear camera bump is protruding off the body and is placed on the left side of the back. It houses a triple camera setup, unlike its predecessor which has a quad-camera set-up. On the front, we have the 32 MP front camera that is accommodated in a punch-hole type cut out at the top of the display. The bezels around the display are fairly thin. <br /><br />On the right side, we have the volume buttons at the top and the power button just below it. This makes you take screenshots using two hands since you have to click the volume down and power button simultaneously and both are on the same side. The power button also houses the fingerprint scanner which is very snappy. The audio isn’t very loud from the speakers that do not offer stereo support and you will need headphones or speakers to enjoy content, which is anyway recommended if you want the best experience. So it’s not a deal breaker. <br />    <div type="image" title="Bottom" msid="86866911" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The Galaxy M52 5G does not have the 3.5mm audio jack.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>One of the biggest drawbacks of this phone is the absence of a 3.5mm audio jack. While I have moved on to wireless headphones, I still like using my wired earphones when the other ones are charging. And not being able to connect them to this Galaxy M52 device is annoying at times. Interestingly, its predecessor, the Galaxy M51, did feature the 3.5mm audio jack. Again, it might not be an issue for many users, but if for you it is, then you can look at Realme X7 Max 5G in the same price range. <br /><br />Overall, the phone feels good in the hands and single-handle operation is comfortable. The phone is sleek and is lightweight, but the back does catch fingerprints and using a back cover is recommended. Design-wise, the only negatives would be its audio features; lack of 3.5mm jack and poor sound quality from the speakers. <br /><br /><strong><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Display" comment="subhead" text="Display"><span data-til="noop">Display</span></cmsannotation></strong><br />The display is one of its superior features. It is equipped with a 6.7-inch FHD+ sAMOLED+ Infinity-O display that comes with a <keyword id="8793349" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="120hz-refresh-rate" source="Orion">120Hz refresh rate</keyword>. The refresh rate can be set to standard 60Hz by going to Settings &gt; Display and tapping motion smoothness. With 120Hz refresh rate, it offers smooth scrolling and transitions. <br /><br />The AMOLED display supports up to 1080 x 2400 (FHD+) resolution and delivers beautiful vivid picture quality by default. You get deeper blacks and high contrast, making the pictures look lively, and it can be adjusted by tweaking the screen mode to “Vivid” from “Natural” in Settings.<br />    <div type="image" title="Display Image" msid="86866947" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The AMOLED display supports up to 120Hz refresh rate. &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>Reading e-books and viewing your favourite video content should be pleasing on this display. I am having a good time with this phone’s display as I can catch the daily news with the Eye comfort shield that filters the blue light and reduces strain on eyes. Watching videos on YouTube and OTT platforms is truly an amazing experience given the picture clarity and sharpness.<br /><br />Even while playing games, the display offers clarity and with its 120Hz refresh rate the experience is quite smooth. It was easy to spot opponents in battle royale games and first person shooter games in general. The picture quality and the clarity of the display delivers an enjoyable gaming experience.<br /><br />The Galaxy M52 5G’s has Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the display that should offer some amount of protection from scratches and accidental drops. <br /><br /><strong><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Performance" comment="subhead" text="Performance"><span data-til="noop">Performance</span></cmsannotation></strong><br />The Galaxy M52 5G is powered by a competent mid-range processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset. It offers consistent performance across the system and applications. The apps load in no time, and I did not experience any lag while switching between them or searching for them. I found the performance of the phone to be exceptionally good while gaming or streaming content from OTT platforms.<br />    <div type="image" title="Back" msid="86867052" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>I encountered an issue where the M52 did struggle a bit. While all the devices in my room had no issues connecting to my 5GHz WiFi connection, the M52 did show sign of poor connectivity, which was due to the range as it improved as I moved closer to the router.<br /><br />Samsung and other smartphone makers are now providing 5G support to mid-range and budget smartphones, and with this Galaxy M52, you get support for 11 bands of 5G. However, 5G is yet to roll out in India and you will not be able to use this feature any time soon in the country. The 5G support makes it future proof and also allows you to use the feature when you travel to a country that supports the 5G network.<br /><br /><strong>Gaming</strong><br />I tried games like Asphalt 9 and Battlegrounds Mobile India, and the performance of the phone was quite incredible. Both the fast chipset and good quality display combine to offer crisp and vibrant graphics that help in gaming.<br /><br />There was no lag or frame drop instance while playing any of these highly demanding games. It did get warm but I did not experience abnormal heating after playing for 45 minutes to an hour. It may heat up if played for longer but I cannot be certain since I did not test it yet.<br /><br /><strong><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Battery" comment="subhead" text="Battery"><span data-til="noop">Battery</span></cmsannotation></strong><br />There is a significant drop in battery capacity from its predecessor. The Galaxy M51 was equipped with a gigantic 7,000mAh battery while this Galaxy M52 comes with a 5,000mAh battery, which is still massive. However, this is quite impressive for this device since its thickness is claimed to be reduced by 21%. <br /><br />In terms of performance, the battery life is impressive as it gave me over 9 hours of screen time with mixed usage including light gaming, streaming and web-browsing. The phone comes with a 15W charger in the box, which takes about two hours to recharge the battery fully from under 10% charge. Nevertheless, the phone is compatible with a 25W Samsung charger that should improve the charging time significantly.<br /><br /><strong><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Camera" comment="subhead" text="Camera"><span data-til="noop">Camera</span></cmsannotation></strong><br />Interestingly, Samsung has reduced the number of camera sensors on this Galaxy M52 compared to its predecessor. The rear camera module features a 64MP primary sensor, 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 5MP Macro sensor. The pictures have high dynamic range, sharp focus and clarity. The ultra-wide lens also captures a large field of view and delivers decent performance during the day. More light and colour is captured in the Night mode than the regular photo mode. The phone doesn’t come with optical image stabilisation and the output can come out shaking at times if the phone is not held stably. For better results., using a tripod while shooting videos is recommended. The colour reproduction during the day was very accurate, while at night, the colours were faded, which is a common issue in smartphone cameras.<br />    <div type="image" title="Wide Angle Night mode" msid="86867189" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Ultra-wide in Night mode&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>You can shoot videos with the front camera in the same resolutions and frame rates as that with the rear camera. Using the same mode, you click images with an ultra-wide sensor and digitally zoom up to 10x. Then we have the video mode to record footage. There is a Single Take mode that can capture a moment in various ways including, a panoramic view, regular view and a video. The Fun mode is integrated with Snapchat filters and allows you to click images with funny backgrounds and virtual props.<br /><br />To explore other modes, you will have to click on More, where you can access Pro Mode, to set the auto-focus, white balance, ISO, aperture and other settings to click pictures like a professional. Other modes here include macro, portrait, hyperlapse, slow motion video and panorama.<br /><br />The camera app is very responsive when you open it. Switch between modes is also smooth and the camera loading time after clicking an image or recording a video is remarkably low.<br /><br /><strong><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Software" comment="subhead" text="Software"><span data-til="noop">Software</span></cmsannotation></strong><br />The Galaxy M52 5G comes with Samsung One UI 3.1 running on Android 11. The UI is very clean and offers plenty of customisation options. You can choose from plenty of widgets that can be added to your home screen. There are plenty of themes and wallpapers options that users can use to personalise the phone. Users can also change the layout of how apps will appear and how many apps will appear in each line.<br /><br />The phone comes with pre-installed applications that are both native and third-party apps like Moj, Daily Hunt, Byjus, Josh, Amazon and others. While you can delete most unwanted applications, you will not be able to delete system apps like the Clock, Calculator, Gallery and others that are needed for the smooth functioning of its software. <br /><br /><strong><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Verdict" comment="subhead" text="Verdict"><span data-til="noop">Verdict</span></cmsannotation></strong> <br />The Samsung Galaxy M52 5G has seen a major upgrade from its predecessor. The display, performance and camera are all above-average. The phone does lack some places such as the missing 3.5mm jack, no stereo speakers for audio and mediocre macro lens. Most of these are not a deal breaker for many. So overall it's a fairly good deal for the price and it gets better if you can get it during a sale.<br /><br />However, you should note that there are plenty of other options from its competitors, such as the OnePlus Nord 2 , Mi 11X and Realme X7 Max . Samsung Galaxy M52 5G review: Sleek design, top-notch display and big battery

Read the review to find out.</strong></li></ul>Realme has been making some of the popular value-for-money smartphones, low-cost earbuds and wearables. This time though, the company has launched probably the most attractive smartphone from its stable — the Realme GT — in India. <br /><br />The Realme GT is a mid-range smartphone that is named after the grand tourer sports car, and to justify the GT tag, it has a sleek racecar-like multi-tone design with powerful interiors. <br /><br />It reminds me of the <a href="https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/introducing-the-oneplus-concept-one.1167337/">OnePlus Concept One</a>, which was the first to showcase disappearing cameras. It has the same yellow and black back panel made of similar textures as the Concept One. The phone also comes in blue and silver variants, which have a completely different look and feel, so the standout factor is attached only to the Racing Yellow.<br /><br />The Chinese company has made affordable flagships in the past with its X-series, but this one is the first to come with Snapdragon 888, which is the top-end chipset available in the market. It's not only the chipset that makes it a high-end offering, but other features like its 65W charging, AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate also add to it.<br /><br />There's a lot to highlight about the Realme GT. It will be available in Dashing Blue, Dashing Silver and Racing Yellow colour options from Flipkart, Realme online store and Realme offline stores starting from August 25.<br /><br /><strong>How is it to use the Realme GT?<br /></strong><br />The Realme GT we received was the Racing Yellow variant, which has a design that will grab attention when you pull it out of the pocket in a group. It has a yellow faux leather back with a black coloured glass panel that trails horizontally across the camera module. The other two variants have a glossy finish, which don't seem to stand out as much as the yellow variant.<br /><br />What should be common across all three is the in-hand feel, which to me was the most impressive design element. Unlike today's standard Android phone sizes, the Realme GT has a smaller size. It measures 158.5x73.3x8.4mm and weighs 186 grams. It's not as compact as the iPhone 12, but you can comfortably click the side buttons and reach every corner of the display. Another design element that goes with the sleek form factor is its flush camera bump that doesn't protrude over the surface, but note that has an indirect impact on the camera performance. It's a bright, vivid and sharp display but the highlight is its 120Hz refresh rate that means the screen updates its frames 120 times per second, which leads to smoother visuals. It comes in handy in gaming, scrolling and for videos with high framerate. <br /><br /><strong>The user interface is for those who like to take control <br /></strong><br />Realme phones use the company's Realme UI, which is essentially a variant of Oppo's ColorOS, which is known for high-level personalisations. You get to customise the shape, size and look of the icons, fonts, animations and a lot more. While that's something a lot of users prefer, especially, Realme's young customer base. What doesn't go well is the bloatware -- in addition to Google and Realme's proprietary apps, it comes with apps like Booking, DocVault, FinShell Pay, Moj, Josh, Netflix and a few more pre-installed. From navigation to switching between apps, the Snapdragon 888 and 120Hz display work in tandem to offer seamless performance.<br /><br /><strong>Realme GT performance, gaming and battery<br /></strong><br />The Realme GT is the only phone in its price range that comes with the flagship Snapdragon 888 chipset. It comes in two RAM variants — you can either buy the 8GB RAM variant with 128GB storage or the 12GB RAM variant with 256GB storage. I received the 12GB variant, which naturally offers relatively better performance, but it's comparable to the 8GB as well. <br /><br />The phone handles everything from games to multitasking with ease. The app loading time, switching between them and other chops were handled quite impressively, but it did heat up while gaming. <br /><br />In terms of battery, the phone has a 4500mAh cell that gets charged from 0-100% in 35 minutes. That fast charging is something that is a must because Realme GT's battery backup isn't that impressive. It drains faster compared to the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/mobile/news/oneplus-nord-2-mobile-phone-review/articleshow/85040249.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">Nord 2</a> which has the same battery size, but that might be due to the high refresh rate display. The rear has a 64-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 2-megapixel macro camera. The rear camera takes good photos, but having used the Nord 2, in comparison, the camera cannot be considered to be the best in this price range. Also, the autofocus works well on faces and landscapes but struggles when placed up close to the subject. So if you're one of those who like to have a fair and softened artificial-looking skin in selfies, you might like it. The story doesn’t change with the macro lens either. While it's pretty good at detecting scenarios, I am not very sure about the results. It allows 20X digital zoom, the standard night mode, portrait mode, pro mode and others. <br /><br />On the video front, it lets you record videos up to 4K at 30fps or 60fps. The videos shot on the Realme GT look good, but only when you have good lighting, as you move towards a dimly lit scene, it struggles with autofocusing and even the quality takes a hit.<br /><br /><strong>What could've been better?<br /></strong><br />Till now, it's pretty clear that there is no other alternative to the Realme GT in this price range, especially on the performance front. But this smartphone could've been a perfect flagship killer if the camera performed at par with the competition. <br /><br /><strong>Should you buy it?<br /></strong><br />Like a typical Realme smartphone, the Realme GT also offers solid specs for the price. So much so that it’s the cheapest smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset currently in the market and that’s not it - it also has a high refresh rate display, 65W fast charging and decent battery life. That’s great for aggressive users and gamers.<br /><br />If this is what you are looking for, the Realme GT is a great value-for-money deal. But if you’re someone who likes to click photos, and prefers a clean user interface, there are better options in the same price range, with slightly inferior specifications. Realme GT Review — Pocketable powerhouse but not perfect

<ul><li>Samsung's latest F-series smartphone, the Galaxy F23 5G has been launched in India.</li><li>Featuring Android 11 and a 5,000mAh battery, the Galaxy F23 5G is aimed at the budget segment.</li><li>Usually, Samsung has aimed the Galaxy F series at those who want budget and mid-range phones with a specific focus on cameras.</li><li>Read on to find out if you should consider the Galaxy F23 5G for your next smartphone upgrade.</li></ul>Samsung recently launched the F23 5G. With no big announcements and visibly reduced influencer promotions, this phone did go under the radar for many. However, I got my hands on a review unit and have been spending some quality time with it. After my thorough testing and usage, I can say that this smartphone is an outcast in its own clan, but it’s not outdated. With an additional ₹1000, you can upgrade to 6GB of RAM, providing you an option at ₹18,499. <br /><br />The smartphone is available for you to buy from Samsung’s own D2C website, Flipkart, and chroma retail stores. <br /><strong><br />Unboxing - We don’t get a charger!</strong><br /><br />I was surprised when I had the F23 5G’s box in my hand. It was compact and I knew what it meant. Surprisingly, the F23 does not get a charger inside the box just like its premium siblings in the S series. A minimalistic upgrade from the F22 in terms of looks, the only striking difference is the new camera array on the back. Now we see a triple camera set-up on the phone compared to the quad-camera set-up on the F22. <br /><br />Aesthetically, the aqua blue colorway with me is appealing to the eyes, even though it looks more like a lighter shade of minty green. If you like your phones with a bolder color then you can go for the forest green color option. <br /><br />The build quality and material used are also familiar to F22, with the phone sporting a plastic body and back. Fortunately, the quality of the plastic is stellar and it doesn’t seem compromised by any means. The plastic body also helps in reducing weight since the smartphone is anyway carrying a massive 5000 mAh battery. All though it weighs 198 grams, a perfect blend of semi-flat edges and even weight distribution makes it easy to hold.<br />            <div type="image" title="Galaxy F23 5G is chunky but easy to hold" msid="91106570" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Galaxy F23 5G is chunky but easy to hold&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> <br /><br />Other design aspects are what you expect from a Samsung Galaxy. On the right side, we get to see volume rockers and a power lock &amp; unlock button. The power button also incorporates the fingerprint sensor, which is not as snappy as you’d expect it to be in 2022. It does unlock the phone, but only after placing your finger at a correct angle. A light tap on the sensor does not do the job, and I had to consciously press the power button for the phone to recognize my fingerprint. This was a turn-off for me since its counterparts like the Redmi note 11 Pro+ and the Realme 9 5G can unlock with just a tap. <br /><br />At the bottom, we get to see a 3.5mm headphone jack which is a bonus these days. It also works really well and delivers crisp audio. With a teardrop design combined with considerably thick bezels and a chin, I felt as if I am using a smartphone from 2018. <br /><br />Samsung’s recycled design choice takes away from what the brand has achieved in terms of the specs on this panel. The 6.6-inch display is an LCD screen, and it looks great. The screen produces rich colors that ensure you enjoy watching your content. It is also well lit and you can look at it under direct sunlight as well, given you set it to maximum brightness. The screen is also protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, ensuring an aid against scratches.<br />            <div type="image" title="Galaxy F23 5G comes with 90 Hz refresh rate" msid="91106653" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Galaxy F23 5G comes with 90 Hz refresh rate&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> <br /><br /><br />What made the F23’s display stand out for me was the smooth execution of the adaptive refresh rate feature. The phone can switch and adapt between 60 and 120 Hz depending on the app you are using. So far, the experience is smooth and I enjoyed the easy switch between a web page and a game. <br /><br />The display’s quality and higher refresh rate definitely make it stand out in the mid-range segment.<br /><br />Issues like not having a punch-hole display and an always-on feature might not affect the general consumer, but I feel Samsung undermined its own product with this decision. <br /><br />When I had just started enjoying the display Samsung’s cutbacks came back to haunt me, the convict this time was the speaker. Samsung Galaxy F23 features a single speaker set-up which by itself is a fairly loud unit, however, even after a week of usage I still miss a stereo set-up. <br /><br />If you are someone who watches content on their phone, without earplugs then this is a point to note.<br /><br /><strong>Samsung Galaxy F23 5G UI - Same old, same old<br /></strong>By now, I have accepted Samsung’s move of providing a more robust OS experience, which seems familiar across all its devices. While it does add a sense of reliability, it also makes the usage boring.<br /><br />Just like other Samsung devices, the F23 5G also runs on Samsung’s own One UI skin paired with Android 11. With familiar animation and app icon designs, you won’t really feel a difference if you are coming from a Samsung phone. Familiarity also means the convenience of generic Samsung features like lift to wake, navigation gesture switch, and one-handed mode. <br /><br />You can also use Samsung’s good old widgets to improve your workflow like calenders, reminders and even emails. Aesthetically, I could change themes, but I would suggest sticking with the classic Samsung One UI skin, it's subtle and less cartoonish than other options. <br /><br />Booting up the device there is some bloatware onboard which was surprising. Apps like Byjus, Josh, Mx Takatak, Moj and even Sharechat are pre-installed. This is a first for me in a Samsung device. Thankfully this package can be uninstalled.<br /><br />Before closing this section I have to talk about the security of the device. Both in terms of hardware and data privacy. Samsung provides you with both fingerprint sensor and face unlock feature on the F23. Unfortunately, both of them are sloppy in their job. While I have explained about the fingerprint sensor earlier, the face unlock is even more unreliable. It takes two steps to set up one with your glasses and another without them. Yet, I have not been able to unlock the phone seamlessly even once. Maybe this will improve with future updates but as of now the situation is abysmal. <br /><br />From the data privacy perspective, a highlight of the device is the availability of Knox security which protects your data against unfortunate intrusions. While data safety as a concern is still picking up in our country, it is commendable on Samsung’s part to provide this feature at this price point.<br /><strong><br />Performance</strong> <br /><br />Samsung Galaxy F23 5G is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G 5G chipset, which is decent for this price range given we see it on the Nord CE and Mi 10i. While I can’t test the 5G prowess of the smartphone yet, Samsung says it comes with 12 5G bands which do make the phone future proof. <br /><br />Performance-wise, the F23 5G performs decently well across multiple strata. Be it calling, or web surfing the phone does not lag and provides peak output without breaking a sweat.<br /><br />Memory management is a bit sloppy though, with the phone occasionally missing out on booting up basic apps like chrome from the point where I left them. The variant with me comes with 6GB of RAM and yet I faced this issue. If you are planning to buy the F23 then I strongly recommend ditching the 4GB RAM variant. As for storage, the 128 GB internal capacity will be enough for most of the users, but in case you still want more, you can always use an SD card. <br /><br />Things get complicated for performance-hungry tasks like gaming. I had an hour-long session of BGMI on F23. It runs the game smoothly on HD settings but after the games were done, I could feel considerable heating. So in case you are buying it for serious gaming, then here’s a heads up.<br /><br />With a 5000 mAh cell, the F23 should last well over a day for a generic user. This involves mostly calling messaging and casual social media browsing.<br /><br />For a heavy user like me, mileage does get affected but not so much. After a long day of testing, the phone would stand at a solid 10%.<br /><br />Since we don’t get a charger in the box, finding the right brick is important. The F23 supports 25W fast charging, so the usual Samsung wall adapter worked for me. I used the 20W Samsung brick and the phone charged from 10-100% in about 1 hour 20 minutes. <br /><br />Now even if you don’t charge to a complete 100, the F23 won’t give up on you, thanks to the chipset’s efficiency and the big battery.<br /><strong><br />F23 5G Camera</strong><br /><br />The Galaxy F23 5G has a triple camera set-up at the back featuring a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a 2MP macro sensor.<br />            <div type="image" title="Galaxy F23 5G&amp;#39;s wide-angle sensor" msid="91106681" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Galaxy F23 5G&amp;#39;s wide-angle sensor&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> <br />The primary sensor performs fairly well in bright outdoor environments with crisp images and commendable color reproduction. While the camera can shoot 4K at 30 fps, the results are not desirable. The videos look saturated and the final product is not worthy of your social media feed.<br /><br />The front camera is an 8MP shooter and gives you an option to go wide as well. The image results are decent, and generally quite nice. Samsung Galaxy F23 5G review

<ul><li>Realme C55 is the latest budget smartphone from the company.</li><li>MediaTek Helio G88 SoC powers the phone and misses out on 5G.</li><li>It features a new mini-capsule feature in the display, a Dynamic Island clone.</li></ul>At a time when every brand is working on expanding its product portfolio, it is usually the budget smartphone segment that takes a hit. There are no surprises since the mid-range segment is the more aggressive and demanding market. At this time, Realme has launched the C55. An outright budget device with the bells and whistles of a standard Realme experience. The C55 is a solid product on paper. As you may expect, some compromises have been made here, which are substituted by adding some neat features on the UI front. But is it enough? And can the Realme C55 be a value champion? I answer that in my full review. <br /><br /><strong>Price &amp; Availability</strong><br />Realme C55 is available in three variants. There is a variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage priced at ₹10,999. Then there is a variant with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage priced at ₹11,999. Finally there is a variant with 8GB RAM variant with 128B of internal storage priced at ₹13,999. You can buy the Realme C55 from Amazon India and Realme’s D2C website. <br /><br /><strong>Design</strong><br />Realme C55 takes a different route in terms of design from what I have seen so far from the brand in the budget category. My last encounter with the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/mobile/realme-9i-5g-review/articleshow/93641337.cms">Realme 9i 5G</a> impressed me with the design, even though I didn’t like the Metallica gold color. The C55 builds upon the same theme with flat edges and a sandwich design. Something I am a fan of since it allows one to maintain a solid grip around the device. <br /><br />    <div type="image" title="The Sunshower color on the smartphone is well executed." msid="98857064" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The Sunshower color on the smartphone is well executed.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />I have the Sunshower color, which is refreshing with this design. I generally do not like bright colors on a smartphone, but it’s been executed well here. But in case you like a more formal color, you can check out the rainy night color variant, which is a fancy term for black. <br /><br />This big smartphone stands tall at 6.72 inches, yet the weight distribution is commendable. The smartphone feels lighter and only imposes its size with one hand. Consider this a heads-up if you have small hands. <br /><br />As you may expect, like most devices at this price point, C55 skips on an official IP rating. I have mentioned it before, but I hope certain characteristics should be standard on smartphones now. IP rating being one. <br /><br />Otherwise, the fit and finish of the device are appropriate with its price tag. On the right-hand side, you will find the volume rockers, which are of good quality and do not wobble. Then aligned neatly under them is the power button, which doubles up for the fingerprint reader. The C55 supports 4G connectivity only, which is a point of contention, I will share my opinion about this characteristic in the performance section. <br /><br /><br /><strong>Display</strong><br />    <div type="image" title="Realme C55 features a 6.7-inch IPS LCD display." msid="98857192" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Realme C55 features a 6.7-inch IPS LCD display.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />The Realme C55 features a 6.7-inch IPS LCD with a screen resolution of 2400x1800 pixels. Before I move to the visual experience, I would like to highlight the execution here. This is a punch-hole notch with very thin bezels, something brands usually skip in budget devices. Reading texts and registering animations from the panel is easy, especially indoors. <br /><br /><br />However, I covered the display with my palm to read under sunlight.<br /><br />Watching content on display is mostly satisfactory. Of course, it doesn’t feature HDR, which I was mindful of while forming my opinion. The experience of watching content here is wholesome.<br /><br />Where it needs to catch up is color reproduction. The images on display can be undersaturated at times, I noticed this mostly with greens. Another area where it could have done better is the black levels. <br /><br />That said, a general user will be okay with watching content here since it has a big screen and a sound set-up to support it. Although a mono speaker, the audio output here is loud, and I have no complaints. <br /><br />Like the Realme 9i, the C55 also features a 90Hz max refresh rate on display, which is commendable for this price. The execution here is also quite good, and you will thoroughly enjoy reading content on a web page or scrolling on social media with it. It also features an auto-select that allows the device to switch the refresh rate according to the content. I suggest sticking to 90Hz since the auto-switch sometimes misses out, especially when you switch from a web page to a game. <br /><br />Otherwise, the screen responsiveness is top-notch, and I do not have anything here to complain about. <br /><br /><strong>Software</strong><br /><br />    <div type="image" title="Realme C55 runs on Android 13 paired with Realme UI skin." msid="98857405" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Realme C55 runs on Android 13 paired with Realme UI skin. &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />Realme C55 comes with Android 13 out of the box with a Realme UI 4 skin. I want to get the most talked about software feature out of the way first - the mini capsule. <br /><br />In their briefing, Realme said they wanted to make the experience better when pitted against iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic island. Of course, no names were thrown, but we know what they were talking about. <br /><br />    <div type="image" title="Mini capsule is pure software play and will be seen across more Realme devices." msid="98857454" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Mini capsule is pure software play and will be seen across more Realme devices.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />Over at the iPhone 14 Pro line-up, there is still some time before we can utilize the complete potential of the feature. Until then, it stands out for some users and hinders the visual experience, especially while watching content. Moreover, you cant turn it off, considering it is essentially a hardware spec.<br /><br />The mini capsule on the C55 solves one of two issues right away. It’s not a hardware spec; hence it can be turned off when you don’t want it. Also, considering it is essentially a notification pop-up, it won’t affect your experience for now either. <br /><br />The execution is straightforward, with the mini capsule encompassing three key areas - charging, data consumption, and steps stats. <br /><br /><strong>Charging</strong><br />It changes its shade to green when the device is fully charged, blue when charging, and red when the battery is lower than 5%. Aesthetically, it looks very interesting, but I prefer looking at the battery percentage to see where the device is standing. <br /><br /><strong>Data consumption</strong><br />The light changes to orange when we reach 90% of our data consumption limit. This is one notification that I had to wait and observe, but it was worth it. <br /><br />The Realme mini capsule has fewer applications for now than the dynamic island, but the execution is commendable. Given, this is a UI-based solution, we should be seeing it on more Realme devices down the line.<br /><br />For now, this is an exciting addition for a smartphone, especially at this price point. However, third-party apps are available on the Google Play Store, like Dynamicspot, which is more versatile.<br /><br />In C55’s case, the Realme mini capsule can be a highlight, but there's some time before it can be deemed a USP. I will sincerely look forward to what else Realme can offer here, considering the brand's track record is solid. <br /><br />Beyond this, the Realme UI offers the standard features we are used to, including the bloatware. As we expect, a buffet of applications here can be uninstalled, including Moj and Josh.<br /> <br /><br />Once you get rid of them, you can focus on the strengths of the UI, particularly the aesthetics and animation. I have always maintained that Realme UI is easy to understand and aesthetically appealing. Of course, you get many customization options here, including widgets for emails, calendars, and messaging apps. <br /><br /><br /><strong>Performance<br />    <div type="image" title="Geekbench score for Realme C55" msid="98857550" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Geekbench score for Realme C55&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div></strong><br />The Mediatek Helio G88 SoC powers Realme C55. Before I proceed with the performance review, I must highlight that this is a 4G processor. It’s been five months since 5G services were rolled out in India, and the consumer shift is apparent. In this situation, recommending the C55 to a mass set of consumers becomes very difficult. Especially since another device in the Realme portfolio has been my suggestion in this price range - the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/mobile/realme-9i-5g-review/articleshow/93641337.cms">9i 5G</a>. A device with decent specifications, an attractive design, and, most importantly, 5G support, starting at ₹14,999. <br /><br /><br />That being said, I have tried to see the merit of the C55. And I can’t deny the large set of consumers who will find this attractive, particularly college students and perhaps people who are not keen on switching to 5G yet because of the premium in pricing.<br /><br /><br />The smartphone's performance is respectable, and it delivers on what I had expected. <br /><br />It was consistent with its performance when I was not pushing it beyond its limits. This remains true for both graphics-heavy tasks, among others. <br /><br />Consistent performance if you are careful with your choices. By that, I mean you need to understand the graphic limitations of the device, among other factors because if you are aware of them, you have a winner in your hands. <br /><br />I want to start with the most obvious use case - gaming. Yes, the C55 can game, although at a moderate graphic setting. I have played long sessions of COD: Mobile on this one, and I am impressed by the performance. Impressed because I didn’t face any lags or ugly frame drops that might spoil my experience. Frankly, at this price, consistency matters more than graphic capabilities. So, if you are a gamer, you won’t be disappointed. <br /><br />Basic usage like watching videos, surfing the web, and scrolling social media is not an issue. Yes, you won’t find the smoothness we see in medium-range or flagship devices. But the animations and aesthetics make up for it, balancing the experience out. <br /><br />For reference, I ran a GeekBench score on the C55, and the results met my expectations. The single-core score was 423, while the multi-core score was 1401. Reconfirming this is not a performance-heavy device but provides a balance for output. <br /><br />The RAM on my variant is 8GB which can be expanded by another 8GB with fusion memory. Usually, it doesn’t add much to the experience, but with C55, I noticed quicker boot-up speeds in games.<br /><br />Otherwise, the RAM can retain lighter apps for prolonged periods, which is good news. The storage in my review variant is 128GB, which might hinder long-term usage. So, you can opt for a micro SD card or look into cloud storage solutions for media files. <br /><br />The battery is a strong quotient for the Realme C55, as it should be, considering the 5000mAh cell is powering up modest hardware. In my testing, I have been getting a screen on time of up to 6 hours on a heavy day, sometimes six and a half hours if I am careful. For a generic consumer, this is a symphony to the ears. That being said, the camera does hold well. Below is a collage for reference. This was shot at 1X, 2X, 5X, and 10X zoom. Even with the dedicated night mode, the sensor finds it difficult to maintain details, and there is a considerable amount of noise in the image. <br /><br />Video performance is fairly decent, with the camera recording 1080P videos up to 60fps. The video situation is at par with what we saw in the images, with well-lit conditions being a stable ground for the camera. The audio recorded from the internal microphone is also crisp. Here I am pointing out that the camera app requires us to go into a dedicated menu to change the video settings. This is inconvenient and something I haven’t seen in a while. <br /><br />The 8MP selfie camera is underwhelming, providing under-saturated images and completely missing the mark in portrait mode. It’s not bad, though, since the AI here works perfectly. However, I suggest relying on the primary setup if you plan to make content with the device.<br /><br /><strong>Verdict</strong> <br />After my testing, I can safely say that the Realme capsule can’t be a USP for this device, considering the applications are limited. Why you should consider the C55 is simple - display, performance, and camera set-up. If you have a limited budget, the C55 is a value deal, especially for performance-hungry users.<br />However, I can’t write off that it’s indeed a 4G device. So going in, you should be aware of the implications.
