The camera kit is an end-to-end solution to include Snap’s AR platform into apps. Several global video apps have already partnered with Snap for its camera kit. With the partnership, Moj will be releasing 30 lenses for creators to use, and will further build 400 more lenses in collaboration with Snap. Snapchat users will also be able to access the lenses created by Moj. “This exclusive partnership makes us the first Indian short video platform to bring Snap’s innovative Camera Kit technology to India. The newly launched collection of 30 Lenses will give our community a never seen before social experience and make content creation on Moj a whole lot more fun. We are supremely excited about this collaboration and look forward to our creators making magic with these advanced Lenses and their original ideas,” said Gaurav Mishra, SVP-Product, ShareChat. Interestingly, <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2021/01/04/google-and-snap-in-talks-to-invest-in-india-social-network-sharechat/">reports </a>also said that Snap was in talks with Sharechat for an investment. “The Moj community and Snapchatters have a lot in common - they are creative and love finding innovative ways to express themselves. Our Camera technology and core values around creativity, privacy, and ephemerality enables us to help developers bring new opportunities to bring engaging experiences to their platforms and communities,” said Ben Schwerin, SVP - Content and Partnerships, Snap Inc. in a statement. In early July, Sharechat had launched Moj – its rival product to TikTok, right after the Chinese app was banned by the Indian government. Since then, Moj has ramped up its offerings as it looks to tap into the millions of users left behind by the ByteDance giant TikTok. The app now has over 80 million users. Snap chooses Sharechat’s Moj to launch its camera kit in India

<ul><li><keyword id="6358096" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="snapchat">Snapchat</keyword> completes two years of its first office in India.</li><li>It has so far witnessed a daily user base growth of 100% for the past 5 quarters.</li><li>Snapchat’s parent company Snap Inc. plans to expand the app’s presence in India with increased hiring, content partnerships and hyperlocal experiences.</li></ul>Snapchat’s parent company Snap Inc. launched its first office in India in August 2019. It has so far reported an upward trajectory in terms of user base in India, a market which its chief executive Evan Spiegel once <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/snapchat-ratings-drop-to-one-star-on-app-store-after-evan-spiegels-poor-countries-like-india-comment/articleshow/58206334.cms">reportedly said “poor” for Snapchat</a>. In its recent June quarter earnings report, Snap <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/snapchats-records-highest-growth-in-users-since-going-public-in-2017/articleshow/84670141.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">reported </a>a global revenue of $982 million, more than double as compared to the previous year. Snapchat also registered its highest user growth to 293 million daily active users. Earlier this year, Snapchat revealed it has crossed 60 million users in India. “We’re experiencing more than 150% growth in daily active users over the last year and consistently we are in triple-digit growth rate five quarters in a row,” Nana Murugesan, managing director of International markets at Snap Inc. told Business Insider India in an interview. Murugesan did not reveal the current statistics for Snapchat’s user base in India, but added that the company had a “healthy growth” in the country and that India is a “significant part” of their global community. The company is also expanding its team in India to focus on local augmented reality (AR), TikTok-rival Spotlight, partnerships, market development, sales and creative strategy. “What you’re going to see is a significant doubling down of our commitment to India, whether it’s on the teams, on the community, on the partnership, we’re very pleased with our overall India story,” Murugesan said. Hyperlocal experiences Snapchat’s key focus in India is to create hyperlocal and culturally relevant experiences for users, according to Murugesan. It launched the third landmarker lens in India, which can be experienced at India Gate in New Delhi. Snapchat users who are nearby India Gate will be notified to point their camera at it, and the monument will be embellished with the tricolour. Snapchat’s landmarker lens lets users create AR experiences at select popular locations like the Buckingham Palace in London and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. In India there are three Snapchat landmarker lenses including the newly launched one at India Gate, and Gateway of India in Mumbai and Taj Mahal in Agra. The company also has dedicated AR lenses for different religious and cultural festivals in India. It also launched the language learning lens that aims to make learning Bengali, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Punjabi, and Telugu easier for users. Snapchat’s language learning lens uses AR and machine learning (ML) to translate objects in real-time in different languages. The app is also available in nine Indian languages -- Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu. Partnerships Adding to the company’s strategy of reaching every smartphone user in India, one focus area for Snapchat is partnerships. “Our strategy is to make Snapchat accessible across all smartphones out there,” Murugesan said. Earlier this year, Snapchat partnered with Sharechat to integrate Snap’s camera kit into the startup’s short video platform, Moj. There are 150 Snapchat lenses available on Moj so far. “We shared our augmented reality technology with Sharechat’s Moj, they integrated our technology into their camera. It’s been exciting to see all the momentum out of that. From our partner’s perspective, it’s been a very fruitful and exciting journey as we share Snap’s camera kit,” Murugesan said. A more recent partnership for Snapchat was with Google and Reliance Jio for JioPhone Next. The low-cost 4G smartphone jointly developed by Google and Jio will come with Snapchat lenses integrated into its camera. “What you’re going to see here is JioPhone Next, the camera that will integrate Snapchat’s augmented reality lenses, which will be highly customised for local Indian users. So the people can enjoy lenses which are at the core of Snapchat, in a very native way without having to do anything. That’s going to be a very interesting way for us to engage with a very large part of the Indian demographic,” Murugesan said. This partnership is being looked at as a way for Snapchat to tap into a wider demographic of early 4G smartphone users or those who upgrade from feature phones to 4G smartphones. Murugesan highlighted the fact that Snapchat’s core feature is AR which makes the app “pretty sophisticated” so the company needs to make sure that it works on just about any device and on any network condition. TikTok-rival ‘Spotlight’ Snap’s seriousness for the Indian market can be seen with the company bringing almost every new feature and product here. Earlier this year, it launched <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/advertising/ad-tech/news/spotlight-snapchats-answer-to-tiktok-and-instagram-reels-launched-in-india/articleshow/81532302.cms">‘Spotlight’</a>, its TikTok-rival, in India. Murgesan said that the company has been seeing a “healthy adoption of Spotlight” in India. Without giving details, he added that the $1 million a day fund has really helped with the adoption of Spotlight. Snap announced it will pay creators up to $1 million a day for using Spotlight based on the number of views the videos get. At Snap’s partner summit in May this year, the company said it paid creators over $130 million globally. It also made changes to the fund saying that creators will now be paid millions per month. “We have seen incredible creativity and growth on Spotlight this year, including a tripling of daily submissions quarter-over-quarter and an all-time high in the daily number of creators posting to Spotlight. We will continue to pay creators millions per month to anyone who makes the top Spotlight Snaps, which is primarily based on engagement and relative performance of Snaps,” Murugesan said. Content partnerships Another area Snapchat has focused on is content partnerships. It has so far partnered with 60 local channels from 32 different publishing partners. Content of different genres ranging from news to Bollywood, beauty, comedy, and art are displayed in the app’s Discover section. It also partnered with comedian Vir Das for a new comedy series ‘VirDas -The Most Epic Max Show’. Snapchat also launched its first non-English Snap Original show ‘Phone Swap India’ which turned out to be a huge hit in India, according to Muregesan who credits the show’s unique concept as the reason behind it. Phone Swap is a reality dating show where the participants have to go through each other’s phones and decide whether they want to go on another date. This show was especially popular with India’s Gen-Z, which is also Snapchat’s core user group. “You will see us do more of these types of things. It was the first time we’ve tried something like this so you’ll probably see us doubling down on these kinds of concepts,” Murugesan added. In addition to Spotlight and content partnerships, Snapchat also launched customised games for users in India. It partnered with MoonFrog Labs to launch a custom version of Ludo Club, and it also made a localised game concept called “Dosa Dash” that is based on one of its popular games, ‘Ready Chef Go’. Snapchat to ‘double down’ on expansion in India as it witnesses over 150% growth in daily active users

Continuing the same trend, the company has launched the Realme 8i and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/mobile/news/realme-8s-5g-smartphone-hands-on-overview-price-design-and-everything-you-need-to-know/slidelist/86063930.cms">Realme 8s 5G</a> smartphones in India recently. The 8i is the most affordable device from the Realme 8-series. The Realme 8i is the successor to the Realme 7i that launched last September. In comparison to its predecessor, the new 8i has come with some upgrades while doing away with one camera sensor. It competes with the Redmi 10 Prime, which was also launched recently in the country. Unsurprisingly, the Realme 8i packs respectable hardware for its price, and combined with features like 5000mAh battery and 120Hz refresh rate, it might just fit the bill for budget gamers. Let’s find out if it does, or not. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Pricing" comment="subhead" text="Pricing">Pricing</cmsannotation> The <keyword id="11278754" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="realme-8i-review" source="Orion">Realme 8i review</keyword> unit I am using is the 6GB+128GB variant in Space Purple colour, which will cost you ₹15,999. The base model of 4GB+64GB carries a price tag of ₹13,999. The other colour variant is Space Black. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Design" comment="subhead" text="Design">Design</cmsannotation> The phone has a polycarbonate back with a glossy finish and a single-tone flowing design that is glossy and reflective. Its camera bump is placed at the top left of the back and it houses a triple camera set-up with an LED flashlight. Due to its glossy finish, the back is prone to catching fingerprints and smudges, so it’s advised to use a cover with the phone if you wish to keep it tidy for long. The phone comes with a transparent silicon case and which should come in handy to keep it safe without compromising on the looks. However, these covers tend to get yellowish after a few months of usage, so that might be a recurring expense. On the front, there is a 6.6-inch display that houses the punch hole type selfie camera. The phone has relatively thin bezels on three sides except the chin. The power button is at a comfortable position on the right side of the phone and it also features the side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which I found to be quite fast from the first touch. The phone weighs 194g and is 8.5mm thick and is comfortable to hold. Single-handed usage is very much possible for chats, emails and browsing. <div type="image" title="Sim Card Slot" msid="86099694" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The SIM tray has three slots. &amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>The left side of the phone houses the volume rockers and the SIM tray. The SIM tray has three slots — two for 4G LTE SIM cards and one for SD cards (up to 256GB). It has the Type-C port at the bottom for charging along with a 3.5mm audio jack and a single speaker. <div type="image" title="Design - Bottom" msid="86099708" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;It features an 18W Type-C charging port along with 3.5mm audio jack and single speakers.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>Overall, the form factor is easy to handle and the design at the back is an interesting addition that can make your phone stand out, but only if you like bling. Still, nothing changes in the camera bump except the loss of the ultra-wide sensor which did not see great reviews in its previous iteration. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Display" comment="subhead" text="Display">Display</cmsannotation> Interestingly, the 6.6-inch FHD+ display on the Realme 8i comes with a 120Hz refresh rate, and can also be set to standard 60Hz to save battery. But I found the Auto-select option to be the best as it offers optimum performance and varies refresh rate according to the requirement of the app. Its predecessor, Realme 7i’s display had up to 90Hz refresh rate and supported 720p resolution. <div type="image" title="Realme 8i" msid="86100137" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The 120Hz refresh rate offers a smooth experience.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The Realme 8i display supports 2412x1080p resolution and has a screen to body ratio of 90.8%. It has a touch sampling rate of 180Hz, which feels exceptional given its low price. It offers a peak brightness of 600 nits. Even though most of my usage has been indoors, I didn’t find any problems while browsing the phone outdoors with auto brightness turned on. With Realme’s UI, the display feels buttery smooth, and both the media viewing and gaming experience have been impressive. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Performance" comment="subhead" text="Performance">Performance</cmsannotation> Realme is using the MediaTek Helio G96 chipset that supports the 120Hz refresh rate and gives power-efficient performance. In terms of everyday performance, I found the chipset to do a good job handling most tasks, be it the opening time of apps, gaming or streaming videos on OTT platforms. This is subject to change as the device gets older. The phone we tested was freshly out of the box and we’ll update the review if we find any inconsistency in the performance. <div type="image" title="Realme 8i Back" msid="86099734" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The Realme 8i is powered by MediaTek Helio G96 processor that offers a versatile performance for its price.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>The MediaTek Helio G96 is an octa-core processor that only supports 4G LTE SIM cards and not 5G, unlike its counterparts Realme 8 5G and Realme 8s 5G. This is one of the trade-offs that you need to make to save money. In my opinion. It shouldn’t be a concern unless you’re keen to use the phone till 5G rolls out in India. With 6GB and 128GB storage, the phone performs quite consistently across applications. I didn’t notice any lag while loading apps or switching between them. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Gaming" comment="subhead" text="Gaming">Gaming</cmsannotation> Quite surprisingly, Realme offers good gaming performance. I tried graphically demanding games like Call of Duty: Mobile, Real Racing 3 and Asphalt 9 and was quite impressed by the experience. There was no lag, and the screen was very responsive to touches while gaming. <div type="image" title="Gaming" msid="86099752" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The gaming experience with the 120Hz display.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>There was noticeable heating after about 30 minutes of gaming, but it wasn’t abnormal or unbearable. Gaming affected the battery life more than any other application, but that’s common on all devices. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Battery" comment="subhead" text="Battery">Battery</cmsannotation> The massive 5,000mAh was a revelation as it packs hours of screen time. I got about 10 hours of screen time with mixed usage that included browsing on Google Chrome, streaming on Amazon Prime and YouTube, and light gaming. It should take you through the day on a single charge with basic usage. Even though I am yet to test it, the phone features a Super Power-Saver mode that claims to provide hours of usage even after dropping down to 5% battery. <div type="image" title="Battery Performance" msid="86100013" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;We got about 10 hours of battery life after the first full charge.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>The charging disappointed me, a 30W fast-charger would be a suitable fit for this massive battery, but Realme ships an 18W charger that takes almost two hours to charge from under 10% to 100%. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Camera" comment="subhead" text="Camera">Camera</cmsannotation> The Realme 8i has done away with the ultra-wide sensor that was present in its predecessor, the 7i. It features a triple-camera set-up with a 50MP AI primary sensor. The other two lenses are — the 2MP macro lens and the 2MP B/W lens. The front-facing camera is a 16MP sensor housed in a punch hole cut-out at the top left of the display. <div type="image" title="Rear Camera" msid="86099783" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The Realme 8i features a triple-camera set-up at the back that performs well under natural lights.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>Talking about the modes, it lets you click photos in portrait mode that blurs out the background. An interesting feature in the camera is a dual-view video mode that can record a video with both front and rear cameras with a vertical divider. I haven’t tried the feature yet, but it could be useful for vloggers. <div type="image" title="Humayun Tomb" msid="86099824" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The camera produces real colours while clicking pictures under natural light.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>The rear camera performance is above-par in natural light. The images that I clicked with a high contrast background turned out good-looking. The result was just about good in indoor lighting as I saw some inconsistency and there’s visible noise in darker areas. <div type="image" title="Daylight Image" msid="86099860" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Another decent image captured under natural lights.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>In low-light, I clicked images in both night mode and regular mode and the results were better with night mode on, as expected. Photos without night mode on were grainy, so it’s better to make use of the night mode in low light conditions for a decent result. <div type="image" title="Indoor Photo" msid="86099902" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Image captured in indoor lighting.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>The front-facing camera, like most budget smartphones, delivers artificially enhanced results. The spots on the face are blurred to make it look cleaner. The camera app is responsive and it lets you choose between five shooting modes - night, video, photo, portrait and 50M - simply by swiping left or right. For other modes, you will have to select more options to find camera modes like slow-mo, timelapse, dual-view and film for videos and ultra-macro, panorama and Pro mode for images. <div type="image" title="Night Mode Image" msid="86099998" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;This image was captured in night mode.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>It can also record videos in 1080p and 720p resolutions. In film mode, you can adjust the auto-focus and ISO manually. The videos that I captured using the video mode at 1080p reproduced the original colours in daylight but at night the output came out noisy. Overall, it’s a decent camera for its price segment. It doesn't click amazing pictures, but under natural lighting, it delivers usable results. So, it’s safe to say it’s not a camera centric device, but it justifies the price. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Software" comment="subhead" text="Software">Software</cmsannotation> It features Realme UI 2.0 running on Android 11 out of the box. The UI is clean with plenty of customizable options, such as the shape of the icons, in-built wallpapers, dark mode, and eye comfort mode for reading. The phone comes with pre-installed apps that include Amazon, Daily Hunt, Josh, Moj, Snapchat and others. There are a lot of bloatware apps, but most of them can be uninstalled except for some of Realme’s own apps like the Calculator, Compass, Clone Phone, HeyTap Cloud and others. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Verdict" comment="subhead" text="Verdict">Verdict</cmsannotation> If you want an affordable smartphone with a high refresh rate display and versatile performance, the Realme 8i would be a great choice at ₹13,999, but note that the camera isn’t its most attractive feature. It’s an exceptional device for daily usage as you have plenty of hours on the battery. If only the charging time could be reduced, this would be a clear winner in the under ₹15,000 category. For people who stay on the go and want the fast charging option, I wouldn’t recommend the Realme 8i. Its biggest selling point would be the smooth 120Hz display and its above-average gaming performance at its price.
