Indian <keyword id="6354814" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="prime-minister-Narendra-Modi">Prime Minister Narendra Modi</keyword> arrived in China on the first leg of his three-nation tour on Thursday. At the airport of Xian city, hometown of China President Xi Jinping, he was welcomed by a group of Chinese children, who performed a traditional dance. 
 <keyword id="6354642" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Modi">Modi</keyword>, 64, was also greeted by Chinese officials at the tarmac.

After his arrival, clad in a crisp white kurta and chudidaar, Modi visited the much famed Terracotta Army museum, which houses a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. 
 
The ‘Terracotta Warriors and Horses’ Museum, a UNESCO world heritage site, is a form of funerary art buried with the Emperor in 210–209 BC whose purpose was to protect the Emperor in his afterlife. 
 
The army was created to help the Emperor rule in the afterlife. Chinese records state that the site was discovered in 1974 by farmers digging a well.

Modi also signed the visitor’s book at the museum in which he wrote: “The Terracotta Army is a heritage of the world. It is a testimony to China’s civilizational achievements. I am deeply impressed by t he extraordinary care with which this precious heritage has been preserved.”

Later on, he also visited Daxingshan Temple and saw translations of Buddhist sutras, which were brought by a monk to Xian from India 
thousands of years ago.

The Indian Prime Minister is also scheduled to meet Xi later in the afternoon, in an unusual departure from the protocol as top Chinese leaders almost never travel outside Beijing to meet senior foreign guests on bilateral visits. 
 
Modi, who will be in China till May 16, will visit Beijing and Shanghai. 
 
Meanwhile, during his visit, Modi and Xi are expected to address the contentious border issue, which has been hampering negotiations since 13 years. 
 
China's Ambassador to India, Le Yucheng, told a news channel that deals worth $10 billion were also expected to be signed during Indian PM’s visit. 
 
When Xi had visited India last year in September, China had announced $20 billion in investments over five years, including setting up of two industrial parks.

Modi arrives in China for three-day visit, gets warm welcome

After a fruitful day in Xi’an city, Indian Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> arrived in Beijing on Friday, the second day of his three-day China visit. 
 He was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Great Hall of People and met his Chinese counterpart <keyword id="191503" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Li-Keqiang">Li Keqiang</keyword>, from where they both proceeded for delegation-level talks and signing of agreements. 
 
India and China exchanged 20 agreements, including railways, education exchange programme, space cooperation, ocean sciences, etc. Deals worth $23 billion are expected to be signed between both the nations during Modi’s visit out of which $10 billion deals were signed today. 
 
While meeting Li, Modi stressed that China needed to reconsider its approach on some issues like border and its support to India’s rival Pakistan. 
 
However, he said that such issues should not hold both the countries back in realising full potential of the partnership. 
 
“We agreed that as we move ahead, we should be sensitive to each other's interests; strengthen mutual trust and confidence; continue to manage our difference with maturity; and, seek solutions to outstanding issues,” he said while making a statement. 
 
Having said that, both the South-Asian giants also sought to work together and help each other to emerge as powerful world economies. 
 
Later on, he is scheduled to address the first Forum of Leaders of the Regions of India and Beijing, which will be attended by Chief Ministers of Gujarat and Maharashtra. 
 Modi, who arrived in China on Thursday, met Chinese President <keyword id="191809" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Xi-Jinping">Xi Jinping</keyword> in the latter’s hometown, Xi’an, and worked out to enhance ties, despite years of mistrust. 
 
Both the nations face an array of issues, including border dispute and China’s backing to Pakistan. Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi urged Modi to work together to promote the international order in a fair direction. 
 
During his stay in Xi’an, Modi also visited Daxingshan Temple, Terracotta Army museum and Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. 
 
Modi is on a three-nation tour in which he will also visit Mongolia and South Korea and the visits will end on May 19.

Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>, who arrived in Xi’an for three-day China visit, met Chinese President <keyword id="191809" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Xi-Jinping">Xi Jinping</keyword>, who broke the protocol to meet the Indian premier. 
 
It was an unusual departure from the protocol as top Chinese leaders almost never go outside Beijing to meet guests on bilateral tours. As per experts, this was a sign of warming relations between the leaders of the South-Asian giants as Xi would be accompanying the Indian premier throughout his stay in Xi’an. 
 
This is Modi’s first tour to China since he was elected in May this year. 
 
Modi and Xi are expected to address a slew of issues when they sit down for delegation-level talks, including the border issue that has been a bone of contention between the two nations and China's plans for infrastructure projects in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. 
 
As per sources, China' stapled visas for people of Arunachal Pradesh will also be raised. 
 
China claims Arunachal Pradesh as part of southern Tibet, a stand firmly refuted by India. 
 
During his visit, Modi will also push for his 'Make in India' campaign, as he plans to turn India into a manufacturing hub.
