With this new mathematics, the strength of Modi’s council of ministers, including him, is now 83. 
 
With one eye on Uttar Pradesh polls in 2017, the induction of 19 new faces in the junior ranks was done on the basis of 3Es-Experience, Expertise and Energy also. 
 
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is going aggressive and doing anything it can to win the power of seat in UP by playing caste card. 
 
In the re-shuffle, three ministers from UP were included in the council-Chandauli MP Mahendra Pandey (Brahmin), Shahjahanpur MP Krishna Raj (Dalit) and Apna Dal MP from Mirzapur Anupriya Patel (Kurmi-OBC). 
 
This time, Modi focussed on doers and performers, who can deliver on his vision of development and good governance. 
 
Apart from getting first time MPs on board, five junior ministers were dropped. 
 
Apparently, they did not deliver on Modi’s vision, and also because the party wants young faces in the council too. Some were even surprised to see their names in the axed list.

Narendra Modi announces Union Cabinet portfolio

By Yoshita Singh United Nations, Jul 15 () Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually address the UN on Friday at the High-Level Segment of the ECOSOC, his first since India was overwhelmingly elected as a non-permanent member of the powerful Security Council last month. Modi will deliver the keynote address at the Valedictory of the High-Level Segment of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on July 17. India last month was overwhelmingly elected as a non-permanent member of the powerful UN Security Council on Wednesday for a two-year term. India, the endorsed candidate from the Asia-Pacific States, won 184 votes out of the 192 ballots cast in the elections for the five non-permanent seats of the Security Council. During the address, Modi will be joined by Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will also address the segment. The theme of this year's High-Level Segment is 'Multilateralism after COVID19: What kind of UN do we need at the 75th anniversary'. Held on an annual basis, the High-level Segment represents the culmination of the ECOSOC's annual cycle of work and convenes a diverse group of high-level representatives from Government, the private sector, civil society and academia. "Against the backdrop of a changing international environment and the unfolding COVID-19 pandemic, the session will focus on critical forces shaping the course of multilateralism and explore ways to bolster the multilateral agenda through strong multilateral leadership, effective international institutions, a broadening of participation and an enhanced focus on global public goods," the Permanent Mission of India to the UN said in a statement. The event, being held on the eve of the 75th Anniversary of the founding of the UN, assumes special significance as it will be the first opportunity for Modi to address the broader UN membership since India overwhelmingly won the Security Council election on June 17. This year's theme also resonates with India's priority for its Security Council tenure in which New Delhi has called for reformed multilateralism in a post-COVID-19 world. Modi had earlier delivered the keynote address virtually at the 70th anniversary of the ECOSOC in January 2016. India has had a long tradition of close association with the ECOSOC. The inaugural Presidency of the ECOSOC in 1946 was held by Sir Ramaswami Mudaliar of India. The UN Charter established the ECOSOC in 1945 as one of the six main organs of the United Nations and is mandated to offer direction to, and undertake the coordination of, the economic, social, and cultural activities of the United Nations, with responsibility for advancing international economic and social cooperation and development. PM Modi to deliver keynote speech at High-Level Segment of UN ECOSOC

New Delhi, Dec 12 () Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday said her name was inadvertently mentioned as head of GoM set up to look into the issue of splitting of the Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) between the Centre and states, and the confusion was cleared subsequently.
 Replying to the debate on supplementary demands for grants in the Rajya Sabha, the minister said it is not appropriate for her to head the Group of Ministers (GoM) while heading the GST Council, consisting of state finance ministers.
 She said that while she was meeting states regarding GST compensation issue, "there was a confusion", that Nirmala Sitharaman has withdrawn from a GoM.
 "Is there something wrong? Absolutely nothing wrong. Heading the GST Council as its chairman, I cannot say I am the head for this group of ministers," the minister said and added that whatever was "inadvertently" released by the ministry was withdrawn, and announced Bihar Finance Minister Sushil Modi would be heading it.
 So, "there is nothing suspicious about it", Sitharaman added.
 The minister also said the Sushil Modi-headed GoM is expected to give its report. The GST Council, the highest decision-making body of the indirect tax regime, will consider it no sooner the report of the group is presented, she added.
 Earlier on the issue of states not getting their due share from IGST, which is levied on the transfer of goods from one state to another, the minister said no state claimed IGST dues in 2017-18 but in the subsequent year, it has been paid.

Sitharaman says her name was inadvertently mentioned as head of GoM on IGST

New Delhi, Dec 10 () Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Modi will be the convener of a Group of Ministers on Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) replacing Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, GST Council sources said on Tuesday.
 Sitharaman was inadvertently mentioned as the convenor of the panel set up to discuss issues relating to IGST after she had a meeting with Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan finance ministers and deputy chief ministers of Delhi and Puducherry on December 4, they said.
 Since the Union Finance Minister is the chairperson of the GST Council, she could not have headed the panel, they said.
 The GoM will deliberate on IGST issues of the states and submit its recommendations to Sitharaman.
 A modification has been made late Tuesday evening to the constitution of GoM on IGST making Sushil Modi its convener, they said.
 Last week, finance ministers and representatives of opposition-ruled states met Sitharaman and expressed their concern over delay in release of GST compensation which has put them in an acute financial position.

Ahead of his swearing-in ceremony today (May 26), Prime Minister-designate <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> visited <keyword id="6362865" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rajghat">Rajghat</keyword> and paid homage to the Father of the Nation, <keyword id="6355532" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mahatma-Gandhi">Mahatma Gandhi</keyword>. He spent about 10 minutes at the memorial. 
 
Several BJP leaders from Delhi, including Harsh Vardhan, Vijay Goel and Vijender Gupta, were also present at the memorial. Modi will be sworn in as the prime minister this evening at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. The mega function will be attended by many foreign dignitaries, including SAARC leaders. 
 President Pranab Mukherjee will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Modi and his council of ministers. Outgoing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president <keyword id="689" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Sonia-Gandhi">Sonia Gandhi</keyword> and the party’s vice-president <keyword id="5268" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Rahul-Gandhi">Rahul Gandhi</keyword>, leaders of various political parties, chief ministers of a number of states and many other dignitaries will also grace the occasion.

New Delhi, Dec 21 () States are not in favour of increasing GST rates at a time when there is a consumption slowdown and it is not the right time to bring down the number of slabs under the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Sushil Kumar Modi, Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and Convenor of Group of Ministers on IGST, said on Saturday.
There is no possibility of any change in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates till the revenue stabilises, Modi said while speaking on the theme 'India: Roadmap to a USD 5 trillion economy' at FICCI's 92nd Annual Convention here.
"I want to assure you that not a single state... (and) the union government is ready to raise the tax rates," he said.
"At a time when the economy is in a slowdown, if you cannot cut the tax rate to boost consumption, do not increase the rates too. At these times you cut the duties and tax rates, and not increase them," Modi said.
On the chances of any reduction in GST rates, he said, "Till the time GST revenue does not stabilise, we cannot think of decreasing the tax rates. In fact, there is no possibility of any change in slabs and tax rates, hike or cut, in the near future."
There have been a shortfall in GST revenue collections against the projections. It crossed the Rs 1 lakh crore mark after a gap of three months in November with the revenue growing by 6 per cent to Rs 1.03 lakh crore during the month.
The collection was Rs 95,380 crore in October.
Modi also informed that now onwards the GST Council has decided to consider any change in tax rates only once in a year and rather than doing so in each and every meeting.
The latest meeting of the GST Council took place earlier this week, where the government fixed a uniform tax rate of 28 per cent on both state and private lotteries, which is to come to effect from March 2020.
In the previous various meetings of the GST Council, the government cut the rates on various services and goods, amidst GST collections remaining below expectations, with an aim to boost demand.
He also said that the time is not right to bring down the number of slabs under GST from the current five (0, 5, 12, 18 and 28 per cents) to 3 slabs.
Modi, who was the Finance Minister of Bihar when value-added tax (VAT) was administered in the country, said he is closely watching the execution of GST and enriching the process with learnings from eight different countries.
Compared to the pre-GST period, 99 per cent of the goods and services have less taxes levied on them post-GST, he said.

“Thank You America,” Prime Minister Modi said on conclusion of his last official engagement at an event organised by the US Indian Business Council (USIBC). “My visit has been very successful. From here I am going to airport directly,” Modi said. 
 India’s US Ambassador S Jaishankar and Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Nisha Desai Biswal, came to see off Modi. On Monday, US President <keyword id="15962" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Barack-Obama">Barack Obama</keyword> hosted a dinner for Modi, and on Tuesday, the two leaders met for about two hours. Vice-President <keyword id="99719" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Joe-Biden">Joe Biden</keyword> and Secretary of State John Kerry, too, hosted dinners for the Prime Minister, following which, he went to the Capitol Hill for a tea hosted in his honour by Joe Boehner, Speaker of the US House of Representatives. 
 
In total, he met more than 50 US lawmakers and three Governors, including South Carolina’s Nikki Haley.

Modi Thanks US Before Leaving For

Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> will review next week the implementation status of some key decisions taken by the Union Cabinet, including those taken way back in July 2014. 

	Scheduled for February 17, this will be the second such review meeting that Modi will undertake with the Council of Ministers in just about three weeks.
 

	The 27 decisions of the Cabinet and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs whose implementation status would be reviewed include the amendments to the Factories Act and the Apprentices Act, which were cleared over one and a half years ago in July 2014, sources told PTI.
 

	PM Modi had chaired a similar meeting of the Council of Ministers on January 27 as well.
 Other decisions slated for implementation status review are setting up of a <keyword id="974618" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Credit-Guarantee-Fund">Credit Guarantee Fund</keyword> for providing guarantees to loans extended under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, operationalisation of Budget announcement of 2015-16 on the Atal Pension Yojana, the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana. The prime minister will also check progress in the <keyword id="2473706" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pradhan-Mantri-Jan-Dhan-Yojana">Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana</keyword>, the <keyword id="6562839" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swacch-Bharat-Mission">Swacch Bharat Mission</keyword> for urban areas, the Housing for All by 2022 mission, the <keyword id="946830" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Skill-Development-Mission">National Skill Development Mission</keyword>, the National Health Mission and the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana. 

	Other such decisions relate to the National Ayush Mission, amendment to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Bill, 2014, setting up three new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Mangalagiri, Nagpur and Kalyani and strengthening of the drug regulatory system.
 

	The decisions relating to setting up of six new IITs and IIMs, amendment to the Payment of Bonus Act, 1965, and the nationwide celebration of 125th birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar will also figure in the status review.

New Delhi, Mar 30 () The Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) on Monday said its officers will contribute one-day salary for two months to help the country fight the coronavirus outbreak. "Officers of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) will be contributing their one-day salary for two months to the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situation Fund (PM-CARES Fund) in their bid to join the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic," the EAC-PM said in a tweet. "Their one-day salary for the month of April and May 2020 will be contributed to the PM-CARES Fund," it added. The Union government has set up a public charitable trust under the name of the PM-CARES Fund in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. In the meeting, Kejriwal proposed to rename the Race Course Road after Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh Guru, but some members were not convinced. 
 
"I had proposed renaming of the road after Guru Govind Singh while Lekhi said it should be renamed as Ekatma Marg. I suggested that the PM should be consulted on this but the Council members decided that on the basis of suggestions received from public, the road should be renamed as Lok Kalyan Marg," Kejriwal said. 
 
So, now Modi’s official address is 7 Lok Kalyan marg.

"Group of secretaries had suggested transformative ideas to PM to push economic growth in the country. Following this, NITI had set action plans for all departments and have been monitoring progress on each of them," a senior NITI Aayog official told ET. 
 
“Friday's presentation to Modi is on the progress by each department on these action plans and inter-ministerial hurdles, if any, in implementing these,” the person added. 
 
Meanwhile, Modi will review departments based on good governance, employment generation, farmer-centric initiatives, education and health, etc.
