November. However, the company has decided to wait out due to unfavourable market conditions. A company has to go public within the next 12 months of receiving SEBI’s approval. While Mobikwik has not yet decided or disclosed when it plans to go public, Taku had emphasised that a strong financial performance, regulatory approval and market are the most important aspects of going public. Financial performance and regulatory approval is still somewhat in control of the company, but market sentiment is not. One has to “time the market right” before making any move towards that direction, she added. EbixCash has four businesses but only one of them is pulling in big money for the company

Millions of retail investors wanted a part of the boom in Asia’s best performing stock market, and a lot of IPOs benefited from the frenzy. That kind of unbridled enthusiasm is unlikely in 2022, according to Ajay Saraf, head of investment banking and institutional equities at ICICI Securities in an interview to Business Insider. Saraf is not alone. Srinivas Rao Ravuri, chief investment officer at PGIM India Mutual Fund also <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/markets/daily-voice-2022-would-be-a-challenging-year-for-investors-and-companies-planning-ipos-says-srinivas-rao-ravuri-of-pgim-india-mf-7856261.html">reportedly</a> believes that 2022 would be a challenging year for investors and companies planning IPOs. But that’s not entirely a bad thing. If the cautious mood makes good companies, who need to raise money, tone down the pricing it may leave more profit on the table for small investors. There were 63 initial public offerings (IPO) in 2021 and they raised a cumulative <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/stock-market/news/list-of-upcoming-ipo-in-year-2022-in-india-ags-transact-adani-wilmar-prudent-corporate-advisory/slidelist/88492728.cms">₹1.18 lakh crore from investors</a> [hyperlink]. different. “My sense is 2022 could be more volatile… and the issue would be stuff like hike in global interest rates, tapering, central bank prioritising inflation over growth and increasing interest rate earlier than expected, which might make the market volatile and IPOs may not be as smooth and great as 2021,” said Saraf. If the market mood is uncertain, then the companies planning IPOs are likely to be less confident in seeking high valuations. Startups like <keyword id="143842" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mobikwik" source="Orion">Mobikwik</keyword> are already waiting patiently before they launch the IPO to get the best price. Founder Upasana Taku told Business Insider that she is <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/mobikwik-founder-says-they-are-not-selling-any-shares-in-the-ipo/articleshow/88392998.cms">waiting for the market conditions to improve</a> even though she has the SEBI approval to launch the IPO. Legendary investor Warren Buffet has said in the past that he has never invested in an IPO. “The idea of saying the best place in the world where I can put money is something where all the selling, and their commissions are higher, the animal spirits are rising, that’s going to be better than a thousand other things I can where there is no similar selling enthusiasm, and the desire to get the deal done and earn some commissions. That’s the best thing to buy in a single day?,” Buffett <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/video/2019/05/06/warren-buffett-on-why-hes-never-bought-an-ipo.html">asked in an interview</a> in May 2019. In 2022, the animal spirits will be lower i.e. the emotional trigger for investments will be contained and therefore the valuations may be cheaper. “Valuation will become a bit more in favour of investors and that is the trend which we will see (next year),” said Saraf. If the IPOs are priced cheaper, it is likely that the headroom for profit is higher for investors, particularly for those who invest for the longer term. Investors expect that the economy will open up, people will travel more, as the vaccinations pick up pace and the pandemic peters out. The recovery is already visible in its earnings of the last four quarters. In its report in July 2021, broking firm Anand Rathi said the shares could worth ₹2,850 apiece in the next one year. <div type="image" title="IRCTC chart" height="900" width="1200" msid="84967721" hostid="261"></div> IRCTC is a central public sector enterprise operating in 4 segments, namely internet ticketing, catering, packaged drinking water and travel &amp; tourism. It plans to commission four new bottling plants this year and that would mean more supply to meet the demand as it revives. Recently, in e-catering, the company has partnered with private tech platforms like travel portal Ixigo and payments startup MobiKwik to name a few. “Going forward, management expects to reach the pre COVID level very soon after the resumption of Tejas Express, increase in convenience revenue to 25%, capacity expansion of Rail Neer and the impact of price hike announced in catering will play out by then,” the Anand Rathi report said. ₹10,000 invested in IRCTC shares on listing is worth more than ₹38,000 today ⁠— the record could get even better

Several media reports citing sources have highlighted that Zomato got about 30-35 times more bids from anchor investors than it intended to sell in the first place. Marquee investors such as Government of Singapore, Morgan Stanley Investment Fund, Tiger Global Investment Fund, Baillie Gifford Pacific Fund, Fidelity Fund, New World Fund, Canada Pension Plan Investment Fund and Kotak Flexi Cap Fund, among others, were allotted more than 2% of the anchor book. Other anchor investors include JPMorgan, UTI Mutual Fund, Motilal Oswal AMC, HDFC Mutual Fund, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, Tata Mutual Fund, Goldman Sachs India, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Franklin Templeton, HSBC Asset Management (India). The company has informed the stock exchange that it had allotted 55.22 crore equity shares to the said anchor investors for ₹76 per equity shares. A total of 75% of the issue has been reserved for qualified institutional buyers (QIB), of which anchor investors make up for about 45% of the total issue size. About 25% shares have been reserved for high net with individuals and retail investors. Zomato intended to raise ₹9,375 crore with this IPO. About ₹9,000 crore will be a fresh issue and ₹375 crore will be a secondary issue by InfoEdge. The company will open its IPO for retail investors on Wednesday, July 14, at 10 a.m., at a price band of ₹72-76. While a few have encouraged retail investors to go ahead, a few have raised caution about the company’s financial performance so far and and in the future. Motilal Oswal said that investors with high risk appetite can subscribe to the Zomato issue, whereas Choice Broking has recommended users to subscribe with caution. Motilal Oswal said that Zomato is placed at a sweet spot as the online food delivery market is at the cusp of evolution, but predicting the growth trajectory at this juncture is a little tricky for the next few years. Valuing such early-stage businesses on a plain vanilla financial matrix might not give the right picture and may look distorted, the brokerage added. The disappointing market debut of Life Insurance Corporation, one of the most anticipated IPOs, and its continued underperformance, down 18 percent since its debut in May, has made more companies wary of going ahead with an IPO this year. “Tech IPOs, which saw a frenzy of activity last year, have delivered a disappointing performance for investors. We expect limited movement in IPO markets in the near term as investors try to rebuild conviction on digital stocks,” DC Advisory added. Companies like OYO, ixigo, Droom, Mobikwik, PharmEasy and SnapDeal were planning to go for a public listing this year and have already filed their papers with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). Mobikwik and ixigo have also received an approval. As Zomato, Paytm and new-age start-ups struggle at bourses, their unlisted peers stare at funding winter
