But it turned out to be short lived as it has been removed from Google Playstore for violating its spam and multiple functionality policy, according to <a href="https://gadgets.ndtv.com/social-networking/news/mitron-app-pulled-from-the-google-play-store-for-violating-spam-policies-2239329">reports.</a> While it gained attention for being India’s answer to TikTok and for using PM Modi’s favourite word – Mitron, the app had also drawn attention soon after that as the original source code was bought from Pakistani software developing company Qboxus. “The source code of TicTic is available on CodeCanyon for only $34. The developer just changed the package name, brand name, splash screen, and some strings,” said Qboxus. The security of the app had also been questioned. “It’s risky to use <keyword id="9295797" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mitron-app">Mitron app</keyword> given it doesn’t have any additional firewall or software security on top of the source code. The privacy policy is weak and that can put user data at risk in the long run,” Satyajit Sinha, cybersecurity researcher at Counterpoint told <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/technology/tech-news-technology/mitron-app-pakistan-connection-cyber-expert-5-million-users-vulnerable-6435884/">Indian Express. </a> Irfan Sheikh, founder of Qboxus, from whom the source code was bought said that they sell products as a template and so they mostly keep it simple and mostly put the attention on the cloning of features of trending apps. “Security is something that has to be taken care of by the buyer according to his/ her app needs. We build apps mostly keeping in mind of our customer needs. Since our target market does not have enough budget so mostly invest on cloning the features instead of investing on security and other things. And also our buyers expect an easy approach and they can be easily deployable. Also keep in mind that we are selling it merely for $34. So you cannot expect it fills all the ingredients of the original app. And only 2 out of 100 customers ask us regarding security. Most are more concerned with cloning and other app features,” Sheikh told Business Insider. The short video platform had got a 4.7 star rating on <keyword id="6369511" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="google-play-store">Google Play store</keyword>. Mitron app’s short-lived fame comes to an end as it gets removed from Google Playstore

New Delhi, May 30 (IANS) Mitron, the much touted desi version of TikTok, appears to have a "Pakistan connection" as the source code of the app was originally made by developers from Pakistan, the medi reported. This group from Pakistan, known as Qboxus, is selling "TicTic - Android media app for creating and sharing short videos v2.5" at the CodeCanyon platform for $34 (approximately Rs 2,567). It is now claimed that the Mitron app is a repackaged version of TicTic, which is a TikTok clone. "TikTok is bad, it's Chinese. Use Mitron instead Me: Folks, Mitron is a repackaged app made by a Pakistani company," an ethical hacker who goes by the name Elliot Alderson tweeted on Saturday. The popularity of Mitron rose after some people promoted it as a desi version of TikTok, with downloads of the app from Google Play now touching over 50 lakh. The description of the app on Google Play says that it is offered by MitronTV. "Mitron is a free Short Video and Social Platform based out of Bengaluru, India. It is designed for people to showcase their innovative videos inline with our theme of light humour," reads the description of the app. There is however, nothing wrong with what the team behind Mitron short video sharing app has done. According to Google's policy, an app "should provide value to users through the creation of unique content or services." "We don't allow apps that merely provide the same experience as other apps already on Google Play," the policy reads. The removal of the app came soon after reports emerged that the Mitron app is a repackaged version of TicTic, which is a TikTok clone. The app, which allows users to make short videos, also appears to have a "Pakistan connection" as the source code of the app was originally made by developers from Pakistan. This group from Pakistan, known as Qboxus, was found selling "TicTic - Android media app for creating and sharing short videos v2.5" at the CodeCanyon platform for $34. The popularity of Mitron app in India rose on the back of prevailing anti-China sentiment in the country due to border tensions in Ladakh. It is not unusual for suspended apps to reappear on Google Play Store. San Francisco, June 11 (IANS) Google Play Store has removed Chinese video app Zynn, a clone of the hugely popular video app TikTok, following accusations of plagiarism. Several TikTok users have reported that their entire account has been plagiarised. That includes profile pictures, names, and the above-mentioned content, sometimes going back months, reports Wired. Zynn arrived on iOS and Android in early May and quickly rose to the top of the download charts. By the end of May, the app had become the most downloaded free iOS app and a top 10 download in the Google Play Store. Part of the reason for this rapid growth is the app's rewards programme where users got paid for watching videos and also to get other users on the app. Users earn $1 for signing up, $20 for the first person they get to join, and $10 for every five users afterward. Google has yet to offer an explanation for the app's removal. Zynn, however, is still available on iOS App Store. Earlier, Google Play Store removed another TikTok rival app Mitron.
