In a patriarchal society, women are told to cook and feed the family and stay confined within the four walls. So much so, they are told to cover their faces and remain under a veil. However, Roshni Misbah has smashed all these <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=stereotypes+&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">stereotypes </a>and has carved a niche for herself. 
 
Even in today’s world, when most men frown upon the idea of women riding bikes, 22-year-old Misbah is teaching them a thing or a two. Well, this doesn’t mean she is not following her religious beliefs. Misbah attracts eyeballs as she rides a bike wearing a hijab. 
 
 
 
“My bike doesn’t know my gender. It only knows that a person is riding it, irrespective of the gender,” says Misbah. She is currently pursuing Arab Islamic Culture at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Jamia+Millia+Islamia&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Jamia Millia Islamia</a> in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=New+Delhi&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">New Delhi</a>. 
 
 
 
Misbah rode a bike for the first time when she was in the ninth standard. “I always had a thing for bikes. The sound of the exhaust would make me go gaga and I just loved it,” she said.

Initially, she tried her hand on her friend’s and her father’s motorcycle for years, but then after getting into Jamia, Misbah bought her first bike- Bajaj Avenger Cruiser 220. But that wasn’t enough, in a few months, Misbah was talking to the wind and driving at 100kmph and that was when she decided to upgrade. 
 
“I bought the Avenger thinking that I will improve my riding and will use it for at least two years, but before I could even notice, I was talking to the wind and that’s when I bought the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Royal+Enfield&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Royal Enfield Bullet</a>,” said Misbah. 
 
 
 
When asked about her motivation, she said that her father, who is also a badass rider, was her motivation and she has been following his footsteps. 
 
“I feel riding is in my genes. My father taught me how to ride and has supported me in pursuing my passion. I really don’t care about the society and what they think and as long as I am happy and doing what I want to,” said the biker. 
 
 
 
However, she doesn’t like people calling her as the ‘Hijabi Biker’ as religion has nothing to what she is doing. 
 
“Religion is a part of me and riding is my passion. People are just mixing these two up and I really can’t understand why,” she said. 
 
 
 
Misbah wants to do a PhD in Arab culture, help her father in the family business, and continue to ride motorcycles. She has already set her sights on her next steed, a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Triumph&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Triumph</a> rocket 2300 cc.

Meet 22-year-old Roshni Misbah, the Hijab-clad biker, who is breaking patriarchy like a boss

<ul><li>As the equity cult travels deeper into India, many women are becoming advisors and distributors of financial products.</li><li>Many women who started with nothing today manage AUMs of ₹100 crore and earn trail income of ₹5 lakh a month.</li><li>Large financial intermediaries like <keyword id="6160673" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nj-wealth" source="Orion">NJ Wealth</keyword> are onboarding more women as distributors as they don’t quit easily and build up the business diligently. </li></ul>An eight figure salary is almost everyone’s dream, be it newly minted B-school graduates or engineers. But how many Indians – even at senior levels – ever come close to an annual income of ₹50 lakh? That’s what Jigna Alpesh Shah thought before she enrolled as a mutual fund distributor back in 2006. Today she manages assets of more than ₹100 crore in Anand, better known as the milk capital of India. She is a housewife between 6 am and 10 am and a wealth manager after that. Her vocation allows her to wear whichever hat she chooses to wear during the course of the day – which can be that of a mother, housewife or career woman. As the equity cult travels deeper into India, many women like Jigna have found their calling as advisors and distributors of financial products. Like the services industry, <keyword id="155162" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mutual-fund-distributors" source="Orion">mutual fund distributors</keyword> like NJ Wealth have also learned that the failure rate of women is very low compared to men as they are persistent and patient. In addition, they don’t easily indulge in misselling just to meet targets. As distributors of financial products, women can choose their workdays rather than adhere to a 9 am to 6 pm grind. Importantly, distribution is a lucrative vocation as a high performing distributor can easily earn trail income of ₹60 lakh p.a. This is big because merely 3.2 mn Indians are above the ₹5 lakh income bracket and they collectively account for 76% of income tax receipts of the government. In a country where the average annual income of a senior professional in India ranges between ₹18-25 lakh and a senior resident doctor’s annual income is between ₹50 and ₹60 lakh, an eight figure salary is surely a pipe dream for most. But if you are ambitious, as a mutual fund distributor you can easily earn a trail income of ₹50 lakh or more, provided you are willing to work hard for the first five years. It is perhaps for these compelling reasons that many more women are joining the equity cult, not just as investors but as advisors. Explains Misbah Baxamusa,CEO of NJ Wealth, “We at NJ Wealth found that women need flexibility in their careers and it is hard for them to hold regular jobs. Being a mutual fund distributor can give them the flexibility they need to get started and in addition to that there is minimal investment needed. We believe that the concept of saving and commitment comes naturally to them. Compared to their male counterparts, women don’t quit easily, once they enroll with us. They stick through the process and build up the business. We have several women today who are managing AUMs of over ₹100 crore.” Today, women account for 15-20% of NJ Wealth’s total distributors. NJ Wealth is focused on enrolling more women as it is a win win for both sides. Compared to industry ratio, it has a much higher ratio of <keyword id="19662661" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="women-distributors" source="Orion">women distributors</keyword> but Baxamusa feels that a lot more can join the gravy train. <div type="image" title="Jigna Shah" msid="105950515" hostid="261"></div> Jigna Shah was a housewife when she moved to Anand in 2002 with her husband. Though she is a BSc graduate, she started dabbling in financial products as an insurance agent. She enrolled with NJ in 2006 and now manages an AUM of ₹103 crore and is the highest AUM holder at NJ Wealth’s Anand branch (Gujarat). She says: “I have seen the journey of mutual fund investments and how it gained momentum after 2008-09. It took me over 10 years to take my AUM to ₹100 crore, but now I am looking forward to doubling my AUM in the next five years.” What has also helped her growth is the better understanding now that Indians have on building wealth through investments in financial assets unlike the past. Goal based investing has really caught on, she says. <div type="image" title="dipti" msid="105607260" hostid="261"></div> Sourcing customers was a little harder ten years ago, but with social media gaining traction that has also become easy. Sixty-nine year old Dipti Pourana has been distributing financial products for years now, but she says her business hit the fast track after she enrolled with NJ Wealth as her customers refused to invert unless she was their distributor. The technology platform of NJ is immensely user-friendly that makes the lives of distributors very easy. Pourana became the breadwinner after her husband died. Today she manages an AUM of over ₹200 crore. She says: “Client acquisition has also changed over the years. Kaur lost her husband during Covid and since then she has been in the driving seat of their wealth advisory business in Chandigarh. She along with her husband started their investment and financial services company in 2015. Kaur thinks that women make very good financial planners and advisors as they are adept at managing homes. She says: “The reason why women can be more successful in this business is because they understand the problem and suggest solutions to clients, unlike men who are more focused on selling.” Kaur’s pet project is to provide financial literacy to young students, who she still teaches in college. She has taken her college lecturer’s role to the next level by conducting classes on investments and savings. She says: “I am a lecturer at SD College but I am very passionate about investing. While I still teach, I also conduct seminars and programmes on investing with students because it is important. I even help my staff at home and office to invest in mutual funds so that they can save for their children’s education.” NJ Wealth is not only making their investors rich by deploying their hard earned money into financial instruments but are also making their distributors wealthy. Tanishq's latest campaign celebrates the commitment of the healthcare community before Doctor's Day

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="12586981" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="coolsculpting" source="Orion">CoolSculpting</keyword> has been sold as a quick and easy route to a slimmer silhouette.</li><li>Supermodel Linda Evangelista filed a lawsuit in September saying CoolSculpting left her disfigured due to an adverse reaction known as PAH.</li></ul>For the last decade, CoolSculpting has been marketed as a noninvasive way to reduce love handles or a double chin that's quick and easy enough to schedule over your lunch break.More than 11 million treatments have been administered worldwide by dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and medical spas. In the last 12 months, CoolSculpting was the 5th most-searched procedure globally, according to <keyword id="11931740" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="plastic-surgery" source="Orion">plastic surgery</keyword> reviews site, RealSelf.com.Khloe Kardashian and Kris Jenner are CoolSculpting fans. The actress and model Molly Sims became a spokeswoman after she credited CoolSculpting with <a href="https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2015/10/talking-coolsculpting-with-molly-sims">helping her slim down</a> following her pregnancy. Since CoolSculpting was cleared by the FDA in 2010, non-invasive body contouring has grown into a $992 million business. There are other similar devices, like EmSculpt Neo (which uses electromagnetic energy) or Sculpsure (which employs lasers). But CoolSculpting is the most popular and widely used procedure for getting rid of stubborn <keyword id="11943367" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="fat" source="Orion">fat</keyword>.So when supermodel Linda Evangelista, one of the most photographed women of the 1990s, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CUJZa40tWXC/">announced via Instagram</a> that the treatment left her "brutally disfigured," it came as a shock. Evangelista said she had developed an adverse reaction that's known as PAH, or paradoxical adipose hyperplasia. "To my followers who have wondered why I have not been working while my peers' careers have been thriving, the reason is that I was brutally disfigured by Zeltiq's CoolSculpting procedure which did the opposite of what it promised," Evangelista <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CUJZa40tWXC/">wrote</a>.By many accounts, CoolSculpting has helped a lot of people get the body they want. The procedure has a 73% "worth it" rating (based on 4,377 reviews) on RealSelf.com.But like every medical procedure, cosmetic or not, there's a risk of adverse effects. CoolSculpting's <a href="https://www.coolsculpting.com/pdfs/CSC125713-v2_Important_Safety_Information.pdf">marketing and safety materials</a> say that PAH is a risk, but that it's rare and correctable with "surgical intervention, such as liposuction." PAH is often described as the "stick of butter effect" – an unnatural bulge that takes the rectangular shape of the CoolSculpting applicator. Others experience irregular shapes of lumpy deposits of tissue in the treated area or other side effects that they might mistake for gaining weight.<div type="image" title="A body is seen from the belly button to the knees. An arrow points to a bulge on the thigh." height="768" width="1024" msid="87856505" hostid="261"></div>Insider has interviewed five women who said that they developed PAH after CoolSculpting. Like Evangelista, four of the women had to have multiple corrective procedures, and none felt that the issue was fully fixed. The fifth patient plans to seek additional treatment, but had to delay it due to the pandemic."It felt like an apron of gelatin," said one woman, who Insider is calling Angela." It was very firm and thick and there was a difference in viscosity." A spokesperson from Allergan Aesthetics, which <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-zeltiq-m-a-allergan/allergan-to-buy-fat-fighter-zeltiq-aesthetics-for-2-48-billion-idUSKBN15S1G1">purchased Zeltiq in 2017</a>, declined to respond to a detailed list of questions from Insider. AbbVie, the parent company of Allergan Aesthetics, also did not reply to a request for comment. The concept of CoolSculpting is that it uses cryolipolysis, or fat freezing, to kill fat cells underneath the skin for a slimmer, more sculpted body in a matter of one to three months. A technician pulls the flesh of the target area between two paddles to cool the tissue to below freezing temperatures. While multiple sessions might be required, the patient can be in and out within an hour. According to Paul M. Friedman, MD, a dermatologist and laser surgeon based in Houston and New York whose practice offers CoolSculpting and who has authored papers and case studies on PAH, said PAH "remains a rare adverse event," given the number of treatments overall."Cryolipolysis has a well established safety profile and is an effective noninvasive treatment option for patients who are the right candidate for this treatment," Dr. Friedman said. But some patients who've experienced PAH question whether patients are being adequately warned about the seriousness of the risks. There have been at least two class-action lawsuits filed in recent years against the companies behind CoolSculpting, and several hundred user accounts regularly share information about the procedure's side effects on Facebook."The biggest problem with the whole situation is the manufacturer is in charge of the reporting," said Louiza Tarrasova, a Florida-based personal injury attorney who has been litigating CoolSculpting claims since 2018. (Tarrasova is on the legal team behind the two class action suits. Two support groups for CoolSculpting patients have formed on Facebook with a total of around 600 members, and Tarrasova serves as the administrator of both.) When things go wrong patients simply reach out to their provider, who then reaches out to the manufacturer, Tarrasova said. The manufacturer then might reach a private agreement with the patient that the company will pay for a corrective procedure, like liposuction, and be released from liability, Tarrasova said. <h2>A welcome fix for stubborn fat</h2>In Evangelista's case, her dermatologist performed seven cycles of CoolSculpting on her abdomen, flanks, back and bra area, inner thighs, and chin between 2015 and 2016, according to her lawsuit, which was filed in federal court in New York and is unrelated to the class action cases. Within a few months of the treatments, her suit alleges, she had developed hard, painful masses underneath her skin in spots where the CoolSculpting applicators were applied, and she was eventually diagnosed with PAH. Evangelista says that Zeltiq agreed to pay for corrective liposuction, only to back out of the agreement 24 hours before the scheduled procedure when Evanglista refused to sign a waiver releasing the company from liability. She had the surgery anyway, but said the PAH masses were back within months.The same thing happened after her second liposuction procedure, which, she said, also left her with permanent scarring. Five patients interviewed by Insider said that Evangelista's story is unfortunately all too familiar. Two were able to provide thorough documentation related to getting the treatment and then corrective procedures for PAH, while three others offered evidence for key pieces of their stories. Angela, who asked that Insider conceal her real name but provided surgical notes from her corrective procedures, didn't think much about the small patch of flab on her lower abdomen. It was during a visit to a medical spa for laser hair removal in February 2017 that she said the technician recommended CoolSculpting. "I thought it would eliminate the 'extra' in that area," Angela says.Five months later, the tissue in the area had expanded, she said in an interview. Curiously, it had also become rubbery and tough, what she described as an "apron of gelatin."<div type="image" title="A person's naked belly is seen facing ahead with arrow pointing to above and below the belly button." height="543" width="1086" msid="87856506" hostid="261"></div>"I couldn't get on a single dress I owned. I was horrified," she said. That October, Angela found out it was PAH, and was told she needed surgery to correct it. When she reached out to the provider who performed her CoolSculpting, she was referred to the manufacturer, Zeltiq. In an interview, Angela said that she spoke to a representative from Zeltiq to say that she believed she had PAH and was offered reimbursement for corrective liposuction surgery.She also discussed her case with Tarrasova, the lawyer, but has not joined in any of the lawsuits.What concerns Angela more than the lingering physical effects, is the amount of mystery still surrounding PAH. It's unclear why some people develop it, and others don't. It's also not clear what exactly causes it."They make it seem like it's not a big deal, and it's not true," she said. "If it goes wrong, the results are so devastating."<h2>'A rare adverse event'</h2>When CoolSculpting was first cleared by the FDA in 2010, PAH wasn't on the FDA's radar. That's because among adults, it's a phenomenon that almost exclusively develops as a result of noninvasive body sculpting procedures like cryolipolysis, explains <a href="https://www.instagram.com/drmisbahkhan6/?hl=en">Misbah Khan, MD</a>, a <a href="http://www.misbahkhanmd.com">dermatologic surgeon</a> based in New York. The first time PAH related to CoolSculpting was reported in the medical literature more broadly was 2014.Much of the existing research on the incidence of PAH is conflicting. In 2018, the manufacturer estimated one PAH case per 4,000 treatment cycles (it's standard for patients to receive more than one cycle of treatment).Zeltiq and its parent companies have received at least 7,798 reports of PAH since 2009, court documents say, though it's unclear if a single report represents one patient or just one treatment area and the manufacturer did not respond to questions about this. The company deemed 5,920 of those reports as confirmed and 1,878 as unconfirmed. "It's very hard to get the right number because people are very embarrassed to talk about it. For some patients it may go unnoticed at first. The problems are undiagnosed," said Dr. Khan, who authored a 2019 paper on treating PAH. "What's likely closer to reality is the higher number." Louiza Tarrasova, the lawyer, first started digging into CoolSculpting in 2018 after a man approached her about seeking damages related to a PAH diagnosis. Their case was not ultimately not successful – the judge ruled that the CoolSculpting provider had been adequately warned of the risks by the company. They have since filed an appeal. The experience convinced Tarrasova that there could be more to investigate about adverse effects related to CoolSculpting. Patients who have been through PAH talk about wanting their bodies to return to normal, but it's not clear whether that's a realistic outcome. The inflammatory response that they experienced after CoolSculpting can result in fibrous scar tissue that is difficult to remove. <div type="image" title="A person's naked belly is seen in profile with arrow pointing to the belly button." height="486" width="973" msid="87856508" hostid="261"></div>Moreover, the inflammatory response can be long-lasting, and when you add corrective surgical procedures to the mix, you're adding more trauma and damage to tissues that are already struggling to heal, Dr. Khan said. The tissue may never return to "normal.""You're also dealing with an altered metabolism overall," Dr. Khan said, noting that some patients with PAH will experience unexplained weight gain throughout the body as a response to the damaged areas of fat. "Fat is an organ. It stores excess calories. When you have damaged fat, other places in the body will begin to store that excess," Dr. Khan said. "You're dealing with a global response."Even when PAH is diagnosed appropriately it is hard to get it treated because it's a relatively new phenomenon. Many doctors and surgeons aren't sure how to treat it effectively. "They're shooting in the dark," Dr. Khan said. This adds another layer of frustration to an extremely painful process of serious surgeries, which themselves can give rise to complications. <h2>Damaged fat</h2>In her Instagram post, Evangelista <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CUJZa40tWXC/">wrote</a> about the shame of living with what she considered a "disfigured" body and said she had become a recluse. "PAH has not only destroyed my livelihood, it has sent me into a cycle of deep depression, profound sadness, and the lowest depths of self-loathing," she wrote. Diana, who also asked Insider to conceal her identity, is an MD dermatologist herself. She got CoolSculpting done four times between 2014 and 2015 on her flanks and abdomen. Her first treatment was done by one of the dermatologist's responsible for bringing CoolSculpting technology to market, she said. Another of her treatments was done at her workplace during training after her boss had bought a CoolSculpting machine. She says she has gone through the CoolSculpting training herself, seen the photos of PAH in a lecture from the technology's lead investigator during her residency training, and spoken to company reps directly. It still took nearly two years for her to be diagnosed with PAH, and only after she got more sessions of CoolSculpting done—which was recommended by her provider after it appeared at first not to work. "It doesn't always present the way they say it does in the training," Diana said. "In the photos, it looks like a shelf. Mine looked like a bulge." She's since had two liposuction procedures as well as an abdominoplasty that led to her losing sensation in her abdomen. The masses in her abdomen feel like they are growing back again, but at this point she can't fathom having another procedure. Diana believes many of her colleagues simply misdiagnose PAH as weight gain following the procedure. She said she's on a group chat with a number of dermatologists, who reacted to <keyword id="11893589" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="news" source="Orion">news</keyword> of Linda Evangelista's lawsuit by ridiculing her with comments like "maybe she just started to eat lots of ice cream." Danielle, a nurse practitioner in South Carolina who is part of the class action suit in California but requested that she not be identified by her real name for fear of attracting harassment, describes her experience with PAH and the surgeries to correct it as "pure hell." Two years ago, Misbah Ashraf faced the worst predicament that any entrepreneur would want to face. With a heavy heart, he shut down his Cibola, a payment venture he founded after dropping out of college from IIT Delhi. But, that setback didn't cause a dent in his entrepreneurial spirit. 
 
He wasn't one to give up. 
 What Misbah instead decided to do was help <keyword id="138263" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="startup">startup</keyword>s and small funds learn from his experience of failing at an early stage startup. He interacted and worked with <keyword id="53533" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="entrepreneurs">entrepreneurs</keyword> in the Bay Area and Singapore and it was during those conversations that a realisation dawned on him. 
 
He began processing the fact that the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/the-4-startups-that-are-likely-to-fail-in-2017-according-to-quora-users/articleshow/56500508.cms">Indian startup</a> ecosystem was missing something crucial. Afterall, why else would young entrepreneurs come to him with problems such as finding the correct target audience for their product or product position when they had the guidance of <keyword id="6359051" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="investors">investors</keyword> working with them? 
 
Soon after, he had the answer to his question. Most often than not, Indian investors limit their guidance to just writing a cheque, instead of being fully involved with the startup and guiding them through every obstacle. 
 A little more digging confirmed his views. "I found out that most of the time <keyword id="6362513" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Startups">startups</keyword> get investors just for the sake of few thousand dollars, and there is no other tangible value," he states. 
 From his own experience, he knew that <keyword id="4120102" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="early-stage-startups">early stage startups</keyword> have two fundamental requirements that can make a world of difference for them- early money and the right set of mentors. 
 But, as he soon found out, early stage <keyword id="982553" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-startups">Indian startups</keyword> prioritised <keyword id="6357455" type="EVENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Funding">funding</keyword> way more than the importance of value creation. Most were following the 'how things have always been done' mentality instead of carving their own path. 
 
This is where Ahmed thought he could help. After meeting over 200 investors and entrepreneurs, Ahmed has come to a conclusion- it is imperative that the Indian ecosystem sees a transformation in the way early stage funds have been functioning till now. Shifting to a value creation perspective is the need of the hour, he believed. 
 
According to him, most of the early stage startups have the common problem of not being able to figure out product positioning, the right product and how to monetize their traffic. And, these issues have invariably become the reason of failures and shutdowns. 
 
He suggests two major changes for early stage funds taht will help startups. Here's what they are: 
 
 1. Community Building: If you are an early stage fund, why don’t you build a community of founders in the house where everybody can help each other with their expertise and network rather than fighting with each other? Early stage startups can’t survive by just competing with each other; rather they have to help each other to grow. 
 
2. In-House Talent Team: Experience and attitude towards learning always beat everything. Why don’t we put together some smart people in the house who are struggling to find their next series of their life? While they are fighting to find the next magical wave, they could add incredible value to your portfolio companies with their skill set. Since they are about to start the journey of starting up, they would do it passionately for learning and impact also. Design and growth are two skill sets which are hard to find, and it shouldn’t necessarily to any early stage team 24*7. So, an early stage fund could put together the talent pool of these skill sets in the house. 
 
 Having figured out the solutions, Ahmed didn't just want to be a passive participant. He went a step ahead.
