Kolkata, <keyword id="259611" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mirae-asset-mutual-fund" source="Orion">Mirae Asset Mutual Fund</keyword> on Thursday said it remains optimistic about a <keyword id="18167645" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="stable-capital-market-outlook" source="Orion">stable capital market outlook</keyword>, aided by <keyword id="18167646" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="improved-macroeconomic-conditions" source="Orion">improved macroeconomic conditions</keyword>. Ankit Jain, the fund manager at <keyword id="6418883" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="mirae-asset-amc" source="Orion">Mirae Asset AMC</keyword>, said the 25-basis point rate hike by the <keyword id="6355253" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="federal-reserve" source="Orion">Federal Reserve</keyword> was in line with expectations. <br /><br />According to him, inflationary pressures are easing globally, and supply and demand imbalances are being rectified. <br /><br />Jain emphasised that "India's healthy GDP growth projections contribute to the stability of the capital <keyword id="35196" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="market-outlook" source="Orion">market outlook</keyword>". <br /><br />He also expected that corporate earnings will rise, particularly in sectors that have already shown significant improvement. <br /><br />Jain expressed bullish sentiment towards sectors such as banking, pharma &amp; healthcare, consumer discretionary and manufacturing. <br /><br />Speaking about Mirae Asset Mutual Fund, which has an asset under management worth Rs 1.38 lakh crore, Jain said it has registered a compound annual growth rate of 40 per cent in the last few years. <br /><br />He expressed optimism about continued expansion due to the untapped potential of the mutual fund industry in the country. <br /><br />Despite the mutual fund industry's total assets under management standing at Rs 40 lakh crore, the "number of unit folios is currently only 3.5 crore, whereas there are over 8 crore taxpayers and 60 crore PAN card holders", he said. <br /><br />Speaking at the launch of the new Mirae Asset Multicap Fund, Jain described its investment strategy, stating that it will allocate 25 per cent each to large, mid and small-cap companies. <br /><br />He believes that this "balanced approach will enable investors to capitalise on long-term opportunities in high-growth small and mid-cap sectors". <br /><br />The NFO (New Fund Offer) of the assent management company is scheduled to open for subscription on July 28 and will close on August 11.

Earlier today, RBIs MPC (Monetary Policy Committee) decided to leave the <keyword id="20094323" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="repo-rate" source="keywords">repo rate</keyword> unchanged at 6.5%, while changing the policy stance toward neutral. The aim, as <keyword id="19899808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="RBI" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="RBI">RBI</keyword> maintained, was to strike a balance between taming domestic <keyword id="19895000" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="inflation" source="keywords">inflation</keyword> and maintaining target growth. <br /><br />A neutral stance gives the RBI the flexibility to adjust <keyword id="19950650" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="interest-rates" source="keywords">interest rates</keyword> based on the direction of inflation, as opposed to its previous stand of withdrawing accommodation, which eliminates any possibility of rate cuts. While a change of stance doesn’t necessarily mean a cut should follow, most experts view this as a prelude to a possible rate cut in December this year, or even February next year. <br /><br />Says Deepak Ramaraju, Senior Fund Manager, Shriram AMC,  "The RBI stance has changed to neutral, indicating that its primary focus is to balance growth and inflation. Growth has been resilient and given the short-term pressure on inflation, RBI may continue to hold interest rates unchanged in Q3 FY 2025. Based on inflation moderating below 4.5% and course of geo-political concerns, the RBI may undertake a rate cut decision in Q4 FY 2025". <br /><br />So, what does this mean for your investments? So, if investors wait for rate cut to invest, it may be too late for them. Also, with corporate credit picking up, investing in corporate bond funds for a period of 3-5 years can also serve the investor well. Investors having a long term investment horizon and appropriate risk appetite can also invest in gilt funds", he continues. <br /><br /><h2>Dont exit the markets yet<br /></h2>Though short-term biases of FII may continue towards Chinese markets keeping pressure on the equity markets, the resilient domestic flows can defy deep corrections in the equity markets despite high valuations. The markets may trend positive with subsequent rate cuts by the US Fed later this year. Hence, it wont be advisable to completely exit the equity markets during these times, notes Avnish Jain, Head - Fixed Income, Canara Robeco Mutual Fund <br /><br />Jain advises to take a buy on dips approach towards the stock markets i.e. adding quality stocks to your portfolio during times of market downturn. <br /><br />Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities says that the current market texture is volatile, hence level based trading would be the ideal strategy for the day traders. "For the bulls now,  25,050/81,700 would be the key level to watch out. Above the same market could retest the level of 25,200-25,225/82,000-82,300. On the flip side, 24,900/81,200 would be the key support zone for the traders. Below the same, the selling pressure is likely to accelerate. Below the same, market could slip till 24,800-24,780/81,000-80,700", explains Chouhan.<br /><br /><h2>Time to buy a home? This ongoing stability in repo rate should provide a significant thrust to residential real estate during these festive months as home loan interest rates are likely to remain steady. <br /><br />"Typically, Q4, marked by higher inclination of homebuyers to wrap-up property purchases during the auspicious period combined with instantaneous liquidity benefit aided by developers offering attractive discounts, has historically provided the final push to housing sales across the major markets in the country", he added. <br />

RBI leaves repo rate unchanged. What does this mean for you?

While the government announced some changes to direct taxation, including revised tax slabs for the new tax regime, most experts called the budget lackluster. <br /><br /> Nitin Chaudhary, Founder of NC Financial Advisory Services highlights his disappointment, noting that this Budget has actually been not at all impactful as it was expected to be. <br /><br />"It is more of a Budget for Coalition rather than any common man and tax payer. Neither there was any major drastic change in allocation as such and nor there was any major relief and tax benefits that was passed on to the tax payer.<br />There is a slight change in the tax slab rate owing to which there will be a very limited benefit to the tax payer in terms of tax outflow", continued Chaudhary.<br /> <br /><h2>Changes in new tax regime</h2>In a bid to make the new tax regime more lucrative, the FM proposed to hike the standard deduction limit to Rs 75,000 from earlier Rs 50,000, exclusively under the new tax regime. Similarly, the deduction available for family pension is also proposed to be increased from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000.<br /><br />More than two-thirds of taxpayers have availed of the new <keyword id="6354751" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="income-tax" source="Orion">Income Tax</keyword> regime, as per <keyword id="129243" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nirmala-Sitharaman" source="Orion">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword>. The FM announced a review of the comprehensive tax regime. This would result in savings of around Rs. 17500 in net taxes in the hands of individual. This would benefit directly to the companies in FMCG segment such as HUL, ITC, Dabur, Nestle and second order beneficiaries would be suppliers to these FMCG giants such as Polyplex, Uflex. Further, increased saving would also boost the inflow to wealth management (AMC’s)in the form of SIP's, and to Stock broking companies through brokerage".<br /><br /><h2>Capital gains simplified</h2>FM also moved to rationalise and simplify short-term capital gain (STCG) tax. Going ahead, STCG on specific financial assets will be charged at 20%, while the remaining financial and other non-financial assets will be charges as per applicable rates. This threshold was set at 15% previously.<br /><br />The long-term capital gains tax on financial and non financial assets was raised from its earlier threshold of 10% to 12.5%. However, the exemption limit under LTCG has been enhanced. This means that now, all long-term capital gains tax earned during the year to the tune of Rs 1,25,000 will be tax exempt. This limit was earlier set at Rs 1,00,000. Specified listed financial assets will be considered long-term provided they have been held for more than 12 months.<br /><br />As Anand Rathi, Co-founder of MIRA Money notes, the FM aims to send a clear message to the investors: avoid short term trading and leveraging. This is reflected in the increased security transaction taxes on futures and options,<br />which is a positive step. However, the increase in short term capital gains tax from 15% to 20% is a notable drawback for many traders.<br /><br />"Previously, if your capital gain was 2 lakh rupees, 1 lakh was exempted, and you had to pay 10% on the remaining 1 lakh, amounting to 10,000 rupees. Now, with the same 2 lakh rupees capital gain, you would pay<br />12.5% tax on the remaining 75,000 rupees after the exemption, which is beneficial", Rathi explained. <br /><br /><br />                        <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="111946291" title="Union Budget 2024-25 key highlights: Angel tax to be scraped" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div><br /><h2>Higher tax on F&amp;O trading</h2>In a bid to stop fund inflows into speculative trading, the securities transaction tax (STT) on trading in futures and options was increased. While STT on options was increased from 0.062% to 0.1%, while the STT on futures was raised from 0.0125% to 0.02%. While this might seem as a  major setback to those trading in futures and options, experts opine that this is unlikely to significantly trading volumes in the segment. Note that this change is set to come into effect starting October 1, 2024. <br /><br />Says Deepak Ramaraju, Senior Fund Manager, Shriram AMC, "Hike in short-term capital gains and long-term capital gains have been sentimentally negative for the equity markets. This has resulted in short-term selling pressure. However, this can be the beginning of reforming the capital markets and curbing retail participation in the F&amp;O segment.
