The Centre has blocked over 100 websites involved in facilitating organised illegal investments related to economic crimes and task-based part-time job frauds. According to an official statement, these websites were being operated by overseas actors and targets were mostly retired employees, women and unemployed youth looking for part time jobs. The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), a wing of the Union Home Ministry, through its vertical National Cybercrime Threat Analytics Unit (NCTAU) had last week identified and recommended that these websites be blocked. Following this, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), invoking its power under the Information Technology Act, 2000, has blocked these websites, the statement said. These websites, which facilitated task-based organised illegal investment related to economic crimes, were learnt to be operated by overseas actors and were using digital advertisement, chat messengers and mule and rented accounts. The proceeds from the large scale economic frauds were seen to be laundered out of <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> using card network, crypto currency, overseas ATM withdrawals and international Fintech companies, the statement said. The I4C is an initiative of the Home Ministry to deal with cyber crimes in the country in a coordinated and comprehensive manner. <keyword id="6366773" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="citizens" source="Orion">Citizens</keyword> have been advised to promptly report phone numbers and social media handles used by such fraudsters to the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), the statement said. It said several complaints have been received through 1930 helpline and the NCRP and these offences were posing significant threat to the citizens and also involved data security concerns. These frauds, typically, involve a number of steps that include targeted digital advertisements launched on platforms like Google and Meta using key words like "Ghar baithe job" (Do jobs sitting at home), "Ghar baithe kamai kaise karen" (How to earn by sitting at home) etc. in multiple languages from overseas advertisers. Upon clicking the advertisement, an agent using WhatsApp or Telegram starts conversation with the potential victim, who convinces him or her to perform some tasks like video likes and subscribe, maps rating, etc. Upon completion of task, the victim is given some commission, initially and is asked to invest more to get more returns against given task. After gaining confidence, when victim deposits larger sum, deposits are frozen and thus the victim is duped. As precautionary measure, it is advised to exercise due diligence before investing in any such very high commission paying online schemes sponsored over internet. If an unknown person contacts anyone over WhatsApp or Telegram, refrain from performing financial transactions without verification, the statement said Verify the name of receiver mentioned in UPI App. If receiver is any random person, it may be a mule account and scheme may be fraudulent.Similarly, check the source from where initial commission is received, it said. Citizens should refrain from doing transactions with unknown accounts, as these could be involved in money laundering and even terror financing and lead to blocking of accounts by police and other legal action, the statement said. India announces emergency e-visas for Afghan nationals, embassy still providing consular services

The <keyword id="26362" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Government">government</keyword> has placed orders for import of 4.5 lakh vials of antiviral drug <keyword id="8775508" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="remdesivir">Remdesivir</keyword> with the first consignment of 75,000 vials expected to reach Indian shores on Friday, Chemicals and <keyword id="5605574" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Fertilisers-Ministry">Fertilisers Ministry</keyword> said in a statement. The government has started importing the vital drug from other countries to ease its shortage in the country, it said. The first consignment of 75,000 vials will reach <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> on Friday, it added. Demand for Remdesivir has gone up manifold in the country with a surge in COVID-19 cases. The antiviral drug is being used in the treatment of infectious disease. HLL Lifecare Ltd, a <keyword id="6377129" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="government-of-india">Government of India</keyword> owned company has ordered 4,50,000 vials of Remdesivir from M/s Gilead Sciences Inc USA and Egyptian Pharma Company, M/s Eva Pharma, the release said. It is expected that Gilead Sciences will dispatch 75,000 to 1,00,000 vials in the next one or two days, it noted. Further one lakh vials will also be supplied before or by May 15, the release said. EVA Pharma will supply around 10,000 vials initially followed by 50,000 vials every 15 days or till July, it added. The Chemicals and Fertilisers Ministry said it has also ramped up the production capacity of Remdesivir in the country. As on April 27, the production capacity of the seven licensed domestic manufacturers has increased from 38 lakh vials per month to 1.03 crore vials per month, it said. Besides, a total 13.73 lakh vials have been supplied across the country by the drug companies in the last seven days (April 21-28). The daily supply has gone up from 67,900 vials on April 11 to 2.09 lakh vials on April 28, it added. An advisory was also issued by <keyword id="69522" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-home-affairs">Ministry of Home Affairs</keyword> to states and union territories to facilitate smooth movement of Remdesivir supplies, the ministry noted. The government has also taken various steps, like ban on exports and customs duty waiver, to enhance the availability of Remdesivir in the country, it said. India saw 3,86,452 new coronavirus infections in a span of 24 hours, the highest single-day rise so far, pushing the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 1,87,62,976, while active cases crossed the 31-lakh mark. The death toll increased to 2,08,330 with 3,498 new fatalities, as per the Union health ministry data. Theatres, however, must strictly follow the Covid-19 protocols during this time. Thermal scanning is mandatory at the entry point of the theatres. There will be some time gap between the two movie shows so that social distancing could be followed between the people entering and moving out of cinema halls. Union <keyword id="6355449" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="information">Information</keyword> and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Sunday gave information about the new <keyword id="162487" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Standard-Operating-Procedures">Standard Operating Procedures</keyword> (SOPs) related to film screening. He said, "from February 1, all seats in theatres can be occupied. We are encouraging more and more online movie show bookings." Sanitisation facility as well as Covid protocols would need to be followed. Cinema goers can buy food items from the stalls at the theatres and take them inside the movie halls. Javadekar said although these things are normal, but the situation became abnormal so all necessary restrictions had been imposed and now these restrictions are on the verge of ending. Therefore, cinema halls would run at 100 per cent capacity. New Delhi, The <keyword id="6354977" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword> Thursday expressed concern over large gatherings of farmers protesting against the new farm laws at <keyword id="7021946" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-borders">Delhi borders</keyword> and asked the Centre whether they were "protected" against the spread of COVID-19. The top court was hearing a plea seeking various reliefs including <keyword id="45706" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="CBI-probe">CBI probe</keyword> into the matter related to assembly of people at Anand Vihar Bus Terminal and the Tablighi Jamaat congregation at Nizammudin Markaz in the national capital after the nationwide lockdown was announced last year to contain the pandemic. "The same problem is going to arise in farmers' agitation. I do not know if farmers are protected from <keyword id="8764262" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid">COVID</keyword>. So, the same problem is going to arise. It is not that everything is over," said Chief Justice S A Bobde, heading a bench, also comprising Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian. The top court asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, whether protesting farmers are protected from COVID-19. Mehta replied, "Certainly not". Mehta said that he will file a report within two weeks on what has been done and what needs to be done. The plea, filed by lawyer Supriya Pandita, alleged that <keyword id="6358992" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Police">Delhi police</keyword> had failed to control the congregation of people and the Nizamuddin Markaz chief Maulana Saad was still evading arrest. Advocate Om Prakash Parihar, appearing for the petitioner, said that no statement has been made by the Centre about the whereabouts of Maulana Saad. The bench told Parihar, "Why are you interested in one person? We are on the issue of COVID. Why do you want controversy? We are interested that COVID guidelines should be there". The top court issued formal notice in the matter after which Mehta said that he will file a report in the matter. The Centre had on June 5 last year told the top court that probe into assembly of people at Anand Vihar Bus Terminal in east Delhi during nationwide lockdown and the Tablighi Jamaat event is being conducted on a day-to-day basis by Delhi Police and there was no need for CBI investigation. The <keyword id="69522" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-home-affairs">Ministry of Home Affairs</keyword> (MHA) had given the details of the steps taken by the Delhi Police which is making all efforts to complete the investigation within the time frame to submit the charge sheet in the trial court. It had told the top court that due to fake media reports and circulation of certain misinformation in the areas of Delhi, thousands of migrants gathered at Anand Vihar Bus terminal and Ghazipur border areas here on March 28, last year. On the steps taken by Delhi police, the MHA in its affidavit had said that probe in Markaz matter is being conducted on a day-to- day basis, in accordance with the mandate of law and all efforts are being made to finalize investigation and submit a report under section 173 CrPC (charge sheet) before the trial court in a time bound manner. The MHA had said that Maulana Saad and others had allowed a huge gathering to assemble inside a closed premise, over a protracted period of time, without any semblance of social distances or provision of masks and sanitizers and have caused a situation where a highly infectious disease such as Covid-19 may spread and threaten the lives of inmates. It had said that a case was lodged against Maulana Saad under various provisions including The Epidemic Disease Act, Disaster Management Act and sections of IPC with crime branch police station and during the investigation of the case charges under Foreigners Act was also added. The Ministry had pointed out that there was no negligence or delay in dealing with the issue of Markaz incident and police had on March 21 contacted the authorities of Tablighi Jamaat Headquarters and apprised them of Covid-19 situation and was directed to send the foreigners back to their respective countries and Indians to their native places. Nutan Thakur had sought information about persons who have been provided various security covers (like X, Y, Z, Z-plus etc) by the Central Government. "The board examinations of 2021 will be in the regular written manner and not online," the CBSE stated. The dates of examination, however, have not been decided yet, officials said.
