All hospitalised patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (fever and cough and/or shortness of breath) will also be tested for novel coronavirus. "Asymptomatic direct and high-risk contacts of a confirmed case should be tested once between day 5 and day 14 of coming in his or her contact," said the Ministry. Direct and high-risk contact include those who live in the same household with a confirmed case and healthcare workers who examined a confirmed case without adequate protection as per WHO recommendations. According to the Health Ministry there are at list 231 active coronavirus cases in India. Currently, India has witnessed cases of COVID-19 mostly related to travel and local transmission from imported cases to their immediate contacts. Community transmission of the disease has not been documented till now. Once community transmission is documented, the above testing strategy will undergo changes to evolve into stage appropriate testing strategy.

Covid-19 patients and oxygen consumed by non-Covid essential services, together comes to 2,800 metric tonnes daily. Noting industrial requirement is 2,200 metric tonnes daily, he said that this makes 5,000 metric tonnes daily and there is a headroom of 1,900 metric tonnes daily. He urged the states to ensure that there is proper inventory management and if there is going to be a shortage, supplies should be replenished on time and help should be sought from the Central government. There's no shortage of medical oxygen in India, says Health Ministry

The new cases were detected as Nepal continues to see a surge in the number of patients recovering from the contagious coronavirus. "Nepal has reported 144 new cases of coronavirus," the Ministry of Health and Population said in a statement. The health ministry said the total number of active cases have declined to 6,613 as Nepal today achieved single day recovery of 1,705 corona patients. "Till date a total of 10,294 corona patients have been discharged from different hospitals after their successful treatment," the statement said.Nepal's total coronavirus related deaths stands at 38 as there was no lives lost due to the deadly disease in the past two days. The new cases of the coronavirus are getting detected as the Nepalese government has intensified COVID-19 tests in the country. "Nepal's total coronavirus infected cases have surged to 16,649 as 118 new cases of COVID–19 have been confirmed during tests conducted at various 25 laboratories across the country in the past 24 hours," said the Ministry of Health and Population in a statement. As many as 120 COVID-19 patients have been discharged after recovery in the past 24 hours, taking the number of patients who recovered to 8,011, Jageshwar Gautam, the spokesperson of the health ministry, said. The ministry said there are 8,603 coronavirus active patients currently undergoing treatment at various health facilities across the country. Till now the Nepal government has conducted coronavirus tests on 275,951 people across the country. A statement from the government said on Friday, "In May 2021, 3,63,000 vials of Amphotericin-B will be imported, thereby resulting in total availability in the country (inclusive of the domestic production) of 5,26752 vials, --3,15,000 vials will be imported in June 2021. along with the domestic supply, the countrywide availability of Amphotericin-B will be enhanced to 5,70,114 vials in June 2021." Several States and UTs have reported an increasing number of patients suffering from Covid complications in the form of Mucormycosis, popularly known as <keyword id="10432869" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="black-fungus">Black Fungus</keyword>. There is also a reported shortage of Amphotericin-B, an anti-fungal drug used for treatment of the Black Fungus disease. The production capacity of the existing companies was extremely limited in the month of April 2021. As a result of the hand-holding by <keyword id="6377129" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="government-of-india">Government of India</keyword>, these domestic manufactures will cumulatively produce 1,63,752 vials of Amphotericin-B in May 2021. This will be further ramped up to 2,55,114 vials in the month of June 2021. Union Ministry of Health said five more manufacturers have been given the licence to produce the anti-fungal drug within the country. Cumulatively, these companies will start producing 1,11,000 vials of Amphotericin-B per month from July 2021. The <keyword id="83655" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-health-ministry">Union Health Ministry</keyword> and Deptt. of Pharmaceuticals are together trying to facilitate these five manufacturers to bring forward some of this production so that these additional supplies begin in June 2021. Union Health Ministry is also trying to procure other antifungal drugs which can be used in treatment of Black Fungus. The figure marked the fastest slide since a 0.59 point drop was booked in 1975, with the figure marking the lowest level since 2014, the <keyword id="48413" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ministry">Ministry</keyword> said. Separately, the jobless rate in 2020 stood at 2.8 per cent, rising 0.4 per cent from the previous year, to book the first increase since 2009, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said. The statistics bureau also said the number of unemployed people in 2020 increased by 290,000 to 1.91 million people, another 11-year high, while the number of employed people dropped by 480,000 to 66.76 million, marking the first decline in eight years. The number of employees furloughed surged by 800,000 to 2.56 million, owing to the virus' spread. The figure marked the highest level since comparable data became available in 1968, the Ministry's data showed. For the month of December, the unemployment rate stood at 2.9%, while the job availability ratio came in at 1.06, with both figures remaining unchanged from the previous month, the latest data revealed. "The data showed a continued significant impact from the coronavirus pandemic on the labor market. Japan's unemployment rate rises for the first time in 11 years due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Analysis shows that children in the age group of 0-14 years are less affected by <keyword id="8763838" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-19">COVID-19</keyword>, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan informed the Lok Sabha on Friday. He said in a written reply that infection among children is mild and most of them remain asymptomatic. "Hence no specific action plan has been formulated in the current response phase to minimise the adverse effects of COVID-19 on such children," he said. Very rarely a severe illness, in form of multi-system inflammatory syndrome, has been identified, Vardhan said, adding this happens usually three to six weeks after the infection. The Department of Pediatrics, AIIMS, is documenting the long term effect of COVID-19 infection in children, he said. The minister was responding to a question on whether the government had formulated any action plan to control and minimise the adverse effects of COVID-19 in children aged 0-14. For appropriate management of COVID-19 cases, a three-tier arrangement of health facilities has been implemented -- <keyword id="8995444" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-care-centre">COVID Care Centre</keyword> with isolation beds for mild or pre-symptomatic cases, Dedicated COVID Health Centre (DCHC) with oxygen supported isolation beds for moderate cases and Dedicated COVID Hospital (DCH) with ICU beds for severe cases, he said. Guidelines on clinical management of COVID-19 have been issued, Vardhan said. They also provides for management of complications. On whether the government has made any assessment of adverse effects of COVID-19 on <keyword id="6354774" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mental-health">mental health</keyword> of children and has provided psychological support through healthcare professionals, Vardhan said the <keyword id="263716" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-education">Ministry of Education</keyword> has initiated a programme called 'manodarpan' covering a wide range of activities to provide psycho-social support to students, teachers and families for mental health and emotional wellbeing. There is a national toll-free helpline 8448440632 to provide tele-counselling for students, parents and teachers to help cope with the situation, he said. The standard operating procedure for health and safety protocols for reopening of schools issued by the Ministry of Education has incorporated guidelines for promoting emotional well-being of students and teachers, the minister said. The <keyword id="210071" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Health">Ministry of Health</keyword> set up a 24/7 helpline through NIMHANS, Bangalore, on March 29, 2020 to provide psycho-social support to the affected population, divided into different target groups, Vardhan said. Two central mental health institutions -- namely LGB Regional Institute of Mental Health, Tezpur and Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi -- along with various states and UTs were also on-boarded to extend the services in regional and local languages. He said guidelines and advisories on management of mental health issues, catering to different segments of the society, were issued. In order to fast track implementation of <keyword id="2284821" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Free-Generic-Drug-Distribution-Programme">free generic drug distribution programme</keyword>, Health Minister <keyword id="196226" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Harsh-Vardhan">Harsh Vardhan</keyword> has called for streamlining logistics, including procurement and distribution systems. 
 The <keyword id="46535" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Health-ministry">Health Ministry</keyword> will devise all logistical details pertaining to procurement and distribution of free generic medicines in all government-run health institutions. 
 Vardhan will also call a meeting of the health ministers of state under the framework of the Central Council of Health. This was decided during a meeting headed by the minister to review the implementation status of the <keyword id="123154" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="National-Health-Mission">National Health Mission</keyword> (NHM). 
 
The Cabinet had cleared the free drug distribution programme in May last year. However, the execution of the programme has been limited to a few hospitals due to lack of infrastructure for procurement and distribution. 
 
The Planning Commission had estimated that the programme would cost Rs 28,560 crore during the 12th plan period (2012-2017) and had made its first financial allocation during FY2012-13. The Centre would bear 75% of the cost and the state governments will contribute the rest. 
 
Under the programme, 348 drugs under the National List of Essential Medicines are to be provided free of cost.
